The Most Gullible Mom In The World

After two days of looking at this photo of Samantha Busch, I thought to myself there must be some kind of catch. Apparently Samantha took this photo of herself and texted it to her mother from the Grand Canyon asking for help. Samantha's mom had been worried that Samantha would fall off a cliff or get blown off a cliff. I get that. Is she so paranoid that she didn't stop to ask herself, who took the photo? How come they didn't help? They had the time to text a photo, then perhaps her daughter was not in danger. Can you get cell service there? I think it is a funny photo and looks totally convincing, but it is the how it got to the mom that should have tipped her off.

TWO DAYS! You look for two days before you think it's a set-up, but you think a mom should know instantly? Especially when she's more likely to react emotionally than logically (initially)?
It's mean, but it's funny. It's funny, but it's mean. I kind of think it would be better to just have it in a set of photos someone is looking through than on a cell phone with the message of help, because in a set of photos, it's clear that everything turned out just fine, but in a text message, there's the momentary panic before your receiver logically deduces the same fact.
    In my opinion.

  4. Wonder how she took it.

  5. Ha ha! But yes, its just a mom thing to jump to insane conclusions. My grandma could write horror movies. "Don't leave the door open or a wild dog could come in and snatch the baby. When i was a little girl a family's pig came in and started biting their baby."
While you stare at them with your mouth open at the sheer insanity of all you heard, the door swings open and hits you on the shoulder. And your abuelita just gives you that i told you so look.

Its obviously a joke but i hope the poor mom didn't freak out too much.

  6. Next time she's in trouble, mum will think its a hilarious joke, just like this one.

  7. It's a optical delusion.

  8. I think it's hilarious - but I also have loads of past April Fool's day pranks which some would probably find in poor taste. And my mom was most often on the receiving end; today she recounts a lot of those stories as good memories. I love to laugh and so do the people with whom I'm surrounded. So yeah, it's a little tasteless now, but I bet they'll tell this story for decades to come.

  9. I like Alma's grandma. I can just picture the other grannies nodding their heads.

    1. Grandmas can be wierdly intuitive. I still freak out a little when i do something she disapproves of. I will smoke a cigarette waiting to be struck by lightning or chased by a serial killer.

  10. Idk, looking at that pic makes me sick. I couldn't imaging seeing a photo of my own baby like that.

  11. What Canadian Miss said.

I nearly died at the grand canyon in the mid 1990's. Was visiting in January, slipped on an icy walk and slid halfway under the fence. Not. Funny.

  12. If Samantha's mother is as paranoid as my dad then I understand why she would feel compelled to send this. if you listen to people who believe every bad thing is going to happen (but thankfully doesn't) it gets really old.

  13. I don't know how she got that photo either -- and I hate to be the spoilsport, but my own Mom reminds all of us that several people a year die falling into the Grand Canyon just about any of us or our families take a vacation now. There apparently are signs everywhere, but there of course are no railings or whatever and I don't know what people think, that it's not real or something? But they do things like balance on one leg or goof off and then fall over. So again. I don't know how she got this photo and probably don't want to know.

  14. I thought it was like those fake photos where it looks like you are going over Niagara Falls, those touristy photo ops that have cut outs for your faces. No?

  15. Dunno, black cat. But a father famously did the windmilling of his arms and "fell" to a lower level to fool his family, and then slipped right off the second ledge for real.

  16. Yeah, it probably was one of those fake cutout ones. I didn't assume it was real. Just wasn't sure how/where one could take one like this (you know, to send to my grandmother).

  17. Iph my kid did this to me, I'd kill them!

People get really stupid when they're out on the edge like that...I don't get it? Iph there's an edge phrom which I could phall and die horribly, I'm staying away!! But, yeah, my kid would be dead, because you're just automatically reacting without thinking it through. But! It will make a phunny story to tell phor years to come.

  22. That poor mom. I know my mom is still freaked out knowing my brother dangled his feet over the edge of Half Dome, even though there were no pictures.

I think a lot of people missed this clip in one of the compilation videos Enty posted. It's a stuntman whose equipment breaks, and he goes over the edge of a cliff. It's pretty cool. (Spoiler: he's okay.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YtsRGYsBo5o

  24. Well, even though her mom almost did get a heart attack, the young lady seems rather pleased with herself:

  25. This is exactly the sort of thing any of my three sons would do to me. And people wonder why all my hair is grey.

  26. Mooshki, I wasn't prepared for that even with your summary. That freaked me out. :o I'm glad he is ok.

  27. The little sh*t, LOL.

  28. Sorry, Rose. :) The first time I saw it, I just saw the part where he went over the cliff, and it really freaked me out. I was very relieved when I tracked down the full story and found out he was wearing a parachute!

  29. Ok, I think we're missing the main point. How would she have taken this picture and texted it of she was on the side of a cliff?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Exactly, Grace. The text came from the daughter. You'd think the mom would wonder how she managed to take a picture of herself, and send a text with that picture, all while dangling from a cliff.

  31. No, I wouldn't have believed it, and the photoshopping isn't great, as the head isn't in exactly the right place.

That being said, it would keep bugging me and bugging me in the back of my mind.

In the area where I live (northern Ontario) the cell service is terrible so at least I wouldn't have to see it as a small image on a phone.

  32. It's not Photoshop, she's on a ledge.

It's a lil crack and a ledge she's standing on. and no there is no cell. reception out there

  36. This item might be a clue to the Blind Item from yesterday about the NASCAR driver who is cheating.

Kurt Busch's wife is named Samantha, which would give her the same name as this Samantha Busch....

I have a son and daughter. If either one of them would've pulled a stunt like this I probably wouldn't have talked to them for a couple days.

    Soooooo NOT amusing! :-(

  38. That is a seriously shitty thing to do to her mom. Tells me she is not a very nice person. Wait until she has kids. Karma is a bitch.

  39. ..if they pulled this sh#t on me I'd pull a Joan Crawford on them and then have the lawyer pull the "real" will out after their shocked faces were posted on youtube..
