Sarah Michelle Gellar Names Her Son Rocky
I don't know what the bet was, but you know for sure that Sarah Michelle Gellar lost a bet with her husband Freddie Prinze Jr. All guys want to name their sons Rocky or Butch or something that guarantees they will be a bouncer or boxer later in life, but they never get their way. Oh sure, I think guys have input in names lik Pilot Inspektor and anything that involves Nic Cage, but other than that, I think guys just cringe and say ok. Blue Ivy? Bear Blu? Bronx Mowgli? Moroccan? Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie named their son Rocky James. Which part of that name do you think Sarah picked? Which part of that name do you think Sarah will call her son? How many weeks or months before Freddie gives up on Rocky and bends to his wife's will?
Whatever. If you want to name your child a strange name they will probably hate it and change it later. Look at the Willis girls? Isn't Talulah or Scout wanting to legally change their names? Rocky James isn't THAT awful I s'pose. Bronx Mowgli? Pilot Inspektor? Dallas Austen? Whatever the parents want, they're the ones that will look stupid calling little Junglebook Detroit on the playground. I guess it makes sense if the parents are named boring names like Fred and Sarah that they'd want to spice things up a bit.
ReplyDeleteI just don't have it in me to hate on anything SMG does because she was Buffy. Also, I don't think that name is unusual; I know a few Rocky/Roccos
ReplyDeleteSame here!
DeleteI love Buffy and even Angel.
DeleteSarah Michelle Gellar was pregnant? I truly had no idea and I'm a fan if hers. She really needs to do something that makes her famous again.
ReplyDeleteSo, you're saying I can't name by son Bullwinkle Thomas? dammit!
ReplyDeleteDo you think the middle name James is a shout-out to her former co-star?
ReplyDeleteIt's not that bad! It's kind of normal compared to the others!
ReplyDeleteI wanted to name my dog Rocky. He is Jorkshire terrier and absolutely cute, so I thought it was funny to name him after Stallone's character
ReplyDeleteif my baby is a girl,we think to name her Pumky Buffy Ripley
ReplyDeleteWhatever Enty. Congrats to them both.
ReplyDeleteAre you pg FrenchGirl? You should change your name to FrenchWoman ;p. Congratulations!!
ReplyDeleteI love this couple. They're like a throwback to a happier time.
ReplyDeleteRocky is an awesome name. It comes with its own theme song.
ReplyDeleteDavid Bowie's son, Zowie, also changed his name, first to Joey, and then to Duncan Jones.
ReplyDeleteI believe some of the Zappa kids changed their exotic names as well.
I went to school with two Rockys.
ReplyDeleteI am so over baby name judgery. And I'm so sure children of celebs are constantly picked on. So sure.
I have a very unusual first name and I was painfully shy growing up. Having a different name set me apart from everyone else when I was in school, so I hated it.
ReplyDeleteJames is Freddie's middle name I believe
ReplyDeleteRocky James sounds like an awesome drink. I like it
ReplyDeleteShe did work with Dwayne Johnson... it must be her tribute to Rocky Maivia!
ReplyDeleteI had a guinea pig named Rocky back in 1977.... I love the name. Rocky, Rocco, it's all good...
ReplyDeleteMy parents teased my grandma by telling her I was going to be named Rock if I was a boy. At least I think they were teasing, I am female so who knows?
ReplyDeleteI like Rocky James. Honestly, I prefer "odd" names-Bronx, Apple over common names with jacked up spellings.
ReplyDeleteExample: Riley, Ryely, Rylee, Ryleigh, etc. It's pronounced the same but you must spell it out for people so they get it right, and there are probably other kids in the class with the same name, so it's not different just because of the spelling. Ugh, sorry just a pet peeve of mine. *I like the name Riley, this is just close to home right now, hence the example. ;)
Löl, my daughters called Riley, i spelt it like that coz it looked 'normal :) I love it, we live in Scotland so its a bit more unusual here. But got it from the Olsens 'So Little Time' prog my cousin watched when she was younger.

DeleteAs a Riley, I see nothing wrong w that spelling... It's the other folks with the extra E and L and Qs that bug me. Blame Ellis Island for how my name is spelled....
DeleteThat said, I understand your point (just not *that* particular spelling)
was thinking they would call him RJ not rocky.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree, Rocky is pretty harmless. We live in a world where "Snooki" and "The Situation" are actually accepted as monikers. Though I still remember that hilarious George Carlin bit where he goes off on "goofy boy names":
ReplyDelete"There's another soft name for a boy. Kyle. Soft names make soft people. I'll bet you anything that ten times out of ten, Nicky, Vinny and Tony will beat the s* out of Todd, Kyle, and Tucker."
Holy cow, CarmeliteLady, that line almost made me spray my keyboard!
"Whatever the parents want, they're the ones that will look stupid calling little Junglebook Detroit on the playground."
"JUNGLEBOOK DETROIT! It's time to go!"
I have a friend named Rock. He can pull it off but it is definitely not what I will be naming any of my future children.
ReplyDeleteI am a fan of unusual names, but not names that make absolutely no sense. Like the Zappa's as someone mentioned above, their names are Diva Thin Muffin Pigeen, Moon Unit, Dweezil, and Ahmet Emuuka Rodan.
I think Ahmet got the better end of that deal...
My kids don't gave common names and depending on who you ask Alma is kind of wierd. You can embrace it or not. After all, kids will always find something to screw with you.
ReplyDelete*have
DeleteRegarding the Zappa kids, the only one to change their name legally was Dweezil and he changed it to Dweezil. The hospital he was born in refused to release him to his parents if they named him Dweezil so Frank Zappa used the first names of his bandmates. Dweezil's original name was Ian but he was always called Dweezil so when he was a kid, his parents hired a lawyer for him so he could legally be Dweezil.
ReplyDeleteI like "Rocco" better, but Rocky doesn't bother me. I will think of Rocky and Bullwinkle though.
ReplyDeleteThey will probably call him RJ anyway. Or he may decide to call himself that.
ReplyDeleteRonan Farrow was originally named 'Satchel'.
ReplyDeletestupid name!
ReplyDeleteCelebrities should be banned from naming their own children.
Tallulah Willis DID legally change her name almost 2 years ago to Lula. No one ever remembers that though when they print stories or pics of her. She even asked Bruce Willis to mention it on a late night talk show when she did it.
ugh, why do I remember such things? lol
I think Rocky is a fine name. I'd love to have a son named Rocky. It's got personality and is way better than something banal like...Jason. (Sorry all you Jasons, but you're in the Lisa and Mary category.)
ReplyDeleteBuffy! Nothing intelligent to add here, but like someone else said Buffy people can get away with anything. I was actually just wondering the other day what her baby's name is
ReplyDelete@Alma, your name is currently the "Emma" of Scandinavia - tons of Almas in my daughter's school, almost one in every class. For boys, it's all about Julius and Albert.
ReplyDeleteRocky is a great name!
ReplyDeleteIt does sound like the future heavyweight champion of the world, but it's not horrible. I'm tired of the variations on Aidan. In addition to the Braidens and Caydens, I actually know a Zaiden. All of the girls in my sons class at middle school sound like they were given soap opera diva names.
ReplyDeleteRocky is cute, better than some other names.
