Mel C Sells Record On QVC

When you are a Spice Girl and not selling a classing like Two Become One, the only place that is willing to let you publicize and sell your record is QVC. No radio stations would play any of the songs from Mel C's new record and sales were not taking off so she decided to go a route that no other Spice Girl has taken before. She performed on QVC yesterday. Unfortunately it was not a Today's Special Value.

  4. I'm not a QVC watcher, but I wouldn't laugh at them either. They can move product like no one's business. As mentioned, they have made millions for many.

  5. Leave Mel alone!!!!!!!!! Leave her alone!!!!!!

Seriously though, not all of the Spice Girls could marry famous soccer players or have random sex with Russell Brand to stay relevant. Good for her for working her way back up the ladder the right way. And QVC totally has a market of people who are loyal to it.

My parents just love 'In The Kitchen With David'.

  6. All I can think is, who does she think she is, singing this song? Good lord.

Unfortunately, she's way over-rehearsed, and the words have been broken into sounds and phrases of sounds, and therefore no hope of any genuine emotion in her singing, appropriate to the words.

Also, notice she only 'acts', gestures---while she's singing. In the pauses, she goes limp. She didn't rehearse the pauses, or even consider them. If the pauses also weren't so long, maybe they wouldn't be so obvious.
BAD singer, BAD! Step away from the classics!

(Sorry, I'm a frustrated arts critic.)

  7. Sorry, fans, I'm sure she's a nice gal...but not a great singer.

I don't look down on QVC. QVC is the way to make BANK.

  8. libby- you made me watch that video. And you DO NOT mess with Joni Mitchell. She is magnificent. And this song (as well as 'River', which I've been listening to on repeat for two days straight) is all about emotion and not about 'singing well'. Spicefail.

But she still might sell well on QVC.

  11. @rejectedcarebear- 'A Case Of You' is amazing! I can only listen to her in spurts, because she bums me out quite a bit. But when I feel like embracing my melancholy, she is my go-to artist. So wonderfully emotional.

  12. 50 Cent sold $177K worth Of headphones On QVC In 9 Minutes. It was hilarious to see him on there.Apparently he's going back. Barbra Streisand also sold her cd on Q but she only "phoned in" , no live appearance.

  14. I politely disagree with the opinion that she's not a good singer. She was by far the best vocal talent of the spice girls (I know thats not a stretch :P ) but she CAN sign, just watch her a capella in one of the billion clips online. She was very down to earth, and if any of the spiceys deserved to have success in the musical area it was her. Her previous solo work had songs that were very decent, just not mass consumption pop songs which maybe is what is expected of her.

  15. Beta- I can only speak for myself here, but I wasn't saying she wasn't a talented singer. She was my favorite Spice Girl actually. It's just a performance that is void of feeling.

  16. she was the only one who could really sing in the group, but without the harmonizing and backing vocals of her Spicey pals, it falls flat.

I bought her first solo album, it was good. Ok it was passable. OK it sucked whatever.

These women have a lot of money, they aren't hurting. My guess is she is she just wants a career again.

  17. I love this song and she has a nice voice but I hated the way it was being sung and had to scroll back up to make it stop. It sounds like the Broadway version. Each word carefully enunciated so they can be understood in the balcony.

  18. I always got the feeling she was the only singer actually trying to sing, the others had their own agendas and singing was just a step to get them there.

Artists don't stop being artists just becuase their bank accounts are full.

Getting new music out there when you aren't the flavor of the week or under 21 is not easy. Radio stations are beyond biased, the ones that even play music anymore.

  19. Most talented Spice, easily. Can't blame a girl for hustling - that's honest work she's doing, IMO!
