Lesbian Beaten On Thanksgiving Says It Was Not A Hate Crime

On Thanksgiving, one holiday celebration turned really violent. Mallory Owens (left) was eating dinner with her girlfriend (right) and her girlfriend's family and got into a fight with her girlfriend's brother. Mallory was severely beaten. She looked way worse than Gabriel Aubry. Mallory's mother says it was a hate crime because her daughter is gay. Mallory's girlfriend said it wasn't and defended her brother. Now, Mallory, who checked herself out of the hospital also says it was not a hate crime and that it was a family disagreement.  Travis Hawkins was charged with second degree assault, but not a hate crime, but Alabama does not have sexual orientation as a basis for a hate crime charge anyway. So, where is Mallory? Back home with her girlfriend and girlfriend's brother. Cra-zy.

  1. Just another typical holiday in Alabama...

  2. There's plenty of trashy reasons to get into a fist fight on Thanksgiving that don't involve who you're sleeping with. But I would think she could find a girlfriend whose siblings WON'T beat her up.

  3. Maybe it was just a family fight that had nothing to do with being gay.

  4. If the victim says its not a hate crime than it isn't a hate crime. Don't you think she'd be the first person to say it was a hate crime if thats in fact what it was?

    1. not if she's in denial. reports say he hit her with a metal pipe like last year.

  5. And I think it kind of sucks that Enty chose to write that it was a 'Lesbian Beating'. It was the beating of a woman who is in a relationship with another woman. 'Lesbian' is not her most defining trait or related to the story at all. If she was beaten by her BOYFRIEND'S brother, this wouldn't even be news.

  6. I read the other day that the girlfriend's brother had beat her up once before.

If that is true, I just don't even know what to say. And to go back to the girlfriend's family, is beyond sad.

  7. Well, in fact, she is a lesbian who was beaten on Thanksgiving. Nobody is saying that's ALL she is. The header is fine.

I guess now we know why the brother beat the girlfriend, if he can't have her, no one can.

  9. What do you mean it wouldn't be news? Have a look at these photos:

  10. "The beating left Mallory Owens with facial and neck lacerations, a broken nose, black eyes and a fractured skull. In the interim, Mallory Owens has mysteriously chosen to move in to her aggressor’s family home as she begins the journey of healing and now seeking plastic surgery pursuant to the placement of metal plates in her face." scallywagandvagabond.com

The charges could be changed to attempted murder. Pix at NY Daily News, horrible.

  12. Sometimes crimes aren't charged as hate crimes because hate crimes, for whatever reason, have lesser sentences. Then everyone gets up in arms about it not being a hate crime but the prosecutor is just going after the longer sentence. Don't know that charges have been filed in this case. Just saying.

  14. Domestic violence and attempted murder, is what it is.

All the more reason to stay out of Alabama. Twisted fucks.

  15. Unbelievable!!! I just read the article on NY Daily News and watched the video. This poor woman! The pictures of her disfigured face are heartbreaking and disturbing. What is even more sickening is that this is the second time that little douche beat her. The first time he hit her over the head with some type of pipe?? WTF!!! I really do hope a federal investigation does occur as her family is trying to get one going. This is so sad and this girl keeps going back to her gf's family home where she keeps getting attacked.

  16. and her girlfriend stood by and did nothing. Not one person tried to stop this monster from beating the ever loving fuck out of this woman.

All class. He should be charged with attempted murder.

  17. @jax - I wonder if he's ever beaten up his sister? Maybe she sat by because she knew what's coming for her if she doesn't sit quiet? Not saying that's a good reason to not help, but it could explain. (Am I making sense? Tired brain is tired.)

  18. Just want to tell all involved this is not normal!!!

  19. this family is fucked. The father shot the son last year in the chest but never pressed charges against him so case was dropped.

I don't know Amber..but if it were me I could not stand by and watch this happen. And if not her, why not a mother, father...anyone?

Travis Hawkins is a fucking monster.
They should all be charged with negligence.

  20. This is extremely sad. If that woman loved Mallory, she would be more concerned for her well being. I hope Mallory gets some help.

  21. Interesting FaceBook pagethat has developed from this news:

    http://www.facebook.com/pages/Charge-Travis-Hawkins-Jr-with-the-attempted-murder-of-Mallory-Owens/389492231128570?fref=ts

"Travis Sr shot Travis Jr in the chest over a year ago in a separate incident.
This is the second time that Travis Jr has assaulted Mallory. The first time was with a weapon, a pipe or wrench of some kind, but no charges were filed in the previous incident."

  22. @jax - I personally couldn't either. I'm pretty fiercely protective of my loved ones.

It's a Mallory is being sucked into that family. I just hope she can make it out alive. :(

  23. The fact that this family is so violent to each other but no charges are ever filed makes me think they are involved in some sort of organized crime. Nothing mafia or anything like that, but maybe some Breaking Bad shit. I mean, the dad shoots the kid, the kid beats this girl into the hospital & the rest of the family thinks its all cool, no need for charges? Really?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Because he used no weapon he will most likely not face first degree assault charges and must be charged with a hate crime on the Federal level to be punished. As Enty said, he can't be charged with a hate crime because the law does not include gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgendered people in Alabama.

  25. This is just beyond my comprehension why this piece of shit isn't already in jail. What the hell? This is terrible!

Last I checked, violence takes place in ALL 50 states, not just Alabama. Stop categorizing the many because of the actions of a few. Step off the high horse.

  27. @Layna Day... Don't let a couple of dummies rile you up. The family who stood by while Mallory was beaten to a pulp (3 punches or not; lesbian or not; angry or not) are totally fucked up. Doesn't matter where they live.

Welcome to the club, by the way. If it's not Florida, it's usually Texas (my home state) where all the embarrassing stuff happens (hello, Rick Perry!). Don't fuel their ridiculous stereotype.

  28. FL has 18 million known citizens. 4th in USA population. I love it when people criticize FL for our wack jobs. At least I know what's in my back yard and that I can carry a warm gun everywhere, if it gives me happiness.

No worries, I'm not TOO upset. :-D

I just don't care for the whole "I knew that story was from (insert state)" meme. Unless you're Bugs Bunny sawing off a state in a Looney Tunes cartoon, please understand that putting down someone else's state isn't funny.

Agent, I'm with you. There may be some kooks in Alabama, but I'm aware of them and keep an eye open accordingly. There are no illusions about that sort of thing.

  30. I contend that it was. Any male who beats a woman that badly hates women.

  31. The last line of this story is absolutely untrue. Travis Hawkins Jr has his own apartment and does not live with his mother and father. Also, he's been in hiding since the story broke because of the death threats. Mallory went to the Hawkins' home when she was released from the hospital, then went back to the ER late at night, and went home to the apartment she shared with Ally after that.

I've been following as many aspects of this story as well as the phenomenon of this story as I can since Sunday night when I first heard about it. It is a Lifetime movie like no other.

What was presented: Lesbian goes to home of girlfriend's family for Thanksgiving, gets beaten by angry brother while family looks on, and here's a bank account you can all donate to.

    Since then:
Mallory is allegedly a charming but manipulative drug addict, and may be somewhat estranged from her mother. Mallory has a young son.
Ally, the girlfriend, is a stripper and may or may not be a part time hooker with mental issues.
Travis Hawkins Jr is bipolar and receives state assistance benefits of some type because of it.
Travis Hawkins Sr has faced charges from local police before, but neither his wife nor his son was willing to follow through and testify.

A Facebook page to support Mallory that was started by one family member and one friend cannot/will not confirm who started the bank account or who controls it.
The mother releases a statement saying she doesn't know about a bank account and if people are upset she will give them refunds (from what, she claims to not know about the bank account). Other family members via twitter are still telling people to donate to that bank account.

I have no idea what is true and what is not anymore, but the socio-psychological part of it all is fascinating to me. As I said, this is definitely a Lifetime movie.

Travis' first court date is Dec 10th, but I doubt anyone will still be paying attention by then.

  32. One more thing, the family alleges that Mallory was outside when Travis jumped on her unexpectedly. One of the younger children saw it happen and then the rest of the family rushed out to break up the fight. The allegation that they all stood by comes from the Mallory's mother who was not there (and she allegedly hates the Hawkins family).

    See, its a Lifetime movie.

  33. From what I understood, the girlfriend and the family did not defend the brother or condone his actions, they just stated it was not a hate crime. I also read that Mallory is staying at her girlfriend's parent's house, but the brother is not. Again, not defending the idiot, just clarifying the insanity here in Alabama.

  34. Who cares if she can be manipulative? He beat the living daylights out of her. Bipolar or not, he should be behind bars.

  35. http://www.lgbtpov.com/ - re the $$$, they are referring inquiries to Regions Bank.

According to Evelyn Mitchell of Regions Corporate Communications, “An assistance fund has been set up to benefit Mallory N. Owens,” and the public can go to regions.com to find a bank or “call 1-800-REGIONS for information on locations or bank by mail donations.”

I wonder if Evelyn Mitchell would have that info re who's controlling that fund? I would be very cautious as 'FS' stated re the $$$...

  39. I absolutely agree that Travis Jr should be behind bars (and probably Travis Sr too, but no one would testify). If he cannot be put in jail then he should be locked away for treatment. He is violent, whether it is because of mental illness or not, he needs to be where he cannot hurt anyone.

Yes, it is the account at Regions Bank that is receiving all the donations, but no one on the two most prominent and "connected" Mallory Owens facebook pages will verify who created that account and who the signatories are. Just because it says "Mallory Owens" doesn't mean she will ever see a dime and there are plenty of cases of rip off artists starting support accounts and disappearing with the money.

As a strong advocate of the LGBT community, I think they need to back off this case and not make it a poster child for hate crime laws. There seems to be so much going on here, and it could very well involve criminal behavior. If these two ladies turn out to be unsympathetic figures, then the campaign will backfire (sadly, that's just the way the general population is).

There are worse allegations out there about both of them, but they seem outlandish to me so I'm not repeating them.

  40. I'm guessing they laced the eggnog this year.

The pictures really say it all -- there's no picture of the guy with any wounds.
