We are so grateful to you. Your sacrifice lives on in all of us and we will not let you down. This great country will stay strong because of you. Your life will not be in vain. We are all so grateful to you and your whole family for protecting and defending all of us, thank you so much. We love you.
Thank you to my dad and his brothers who all served. And thank you to my two nephews who serve today. And to all those who died so that we might live free, we thank you and pray for you.
A big thank you to all my family members, close friends, neighbors and all of the service men and women who have served this country bravely. With family, you get a birds-eye view of how much they sacrifice. I am in awe of your dedication to our nation. Thank you.
There's so much cynicism today about the military and military service, "Oh, it's all wars for oil" or "It's the poverty draft, the poor fighting for the rich."
People have become so secure they forget about all the evil in the world - the Taliban shooting a young girl in the head for suggesting that girls have the right to an education, for example. Or the savagery in Rwanda or the Balkans or Sierra Leone, with rape used as a weapon of war, child soldiers, limbs being cut off as a symbol of power.
It's because of the people who have fought and died for us that we have the right to live our ironic little lives with freedom of speech to bitch and piss and moan about all the things that displease us. (I work with journalists in China, and they are constantly trying to stay one step ahead of the censors.)
It's because of our military that we have freedom of religion, or the freedom to have none at all - try that in Saudi Arabia or Iran.
We are so lucky. Our lives are imperfect, our society is imperfect, and we are very, very lucky to have what we have. And I thank our military for that.
I always think of the soliders with gratitude Every day. I thank my grandfather, WW1, my father, WW2, as well as my aunt, and her brother , who did not come home. My father was a pow in germany and france . My husband served in Vietnam.thank you, thank you, thank you.
Thank you to my husband, my aunt, my two uncles, and to all my friends and other military personal who have served and are serving. --We go to bed free and safe every night because of your sacrifices. You all are true heroes who show the world the true meaning of bravery and of selflessness. Thank you!

Thanks to all the Armed Forces around the world who keep peace.
I'm remembering especially my late father, who was a medic in a CCS (Casualty Clearing Station) in Europe during WWII, and my late uncle, who was an Air Force gunner also during WWII. Both came back, fortunately.
Thank you. I hope that our country can begin to do more right by our veterans. Sometimes it seems like they end up getting the short end of the stick in many ways.
"People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf." (George Orwell) It's an ugly truth and easy to forget in the course of everyday existence, so thanks to all those who sacrificed their lives so we could live ours without having to do so.
Thank you to all who have fought. Big hugs to those who have lost loved ones in conflict. I am eternally grateful that my dad came back from Vietnam relatively unscathed.
In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields.
A thanks to the brave men and women who have sacrificed their safety to give us freedom. My father, two uncles, aunt, nephew and sister served. I will never fully comprehend the difficulties they endured for the sake of us all. God bless them.
A special thanks to my father, who parachuted into the Normandy invastion, to my generation, changed forever by Vietnam, and to the men and women serving today.
There is something special about all of us who commented today, we are bonded by our appreciation of those who have served our country. I am proud f my grandfather who fought in WW2 and the Korean War, my father and uncles who are Vietnam Vets, and all of your family members too.
Like some have said above, there's so much cynicism about war these days, so much anti military rhetoric.
To these people I say the same thing I always say - the soldiers of the world do not pick the wars, they fight them. They are the people who serve their country in order to protect all they hold dear. I have never met a soldier who fights for oil, or for wealth. The blame for any unjust battles lies not with the people who only want to serve their country.
I do not remember those who would use war for their own ends. I remember the brave men and women fighting to protect our freedom.
My stepfather served for 25 yrs in the navy...he passed 2 yrs ago and left his medals to my son...Thank you for your service...your bravery...your sacrifice

ReplyDeleteThey shall not grow old,
ReplyDeleteas we that are left grow old
Age shall not weary them,
nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun
and in the morning
We will remember them.
