Brie Lybrand And Sexual Abuse - WARNING GRAPHIC CONTENT
Brie Lybrand is a New Orleans video blogger who has a nice following of people who watch her videos about makeup and beauty and shopping. Very lighthearted, the former beauty queen has fun. Her installment this week was anything but fun though as she talks about what it was like to see that her father had subscribed to her YouTube Channel. The father she claims began sexually abusing her when she was just four years old. Very powerful stuff.
GOOD FOR HER. This is amazingly brave and healthy of her. How freeing and healing for her to face him in a safe way and also out him as an incestuous monster. As the nineties saying goes: " You GO Girl. "
ReplyDeletewow, hard to watch. best to her. i hope for her continued recovery.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Enty. This brave woman is my new hero.
ReplyDeleteShe is amazing.
ReplyDeleteWow that was powerful. I need to find out why her dad isn't rotting away in a jail somewhere.
ReplyDeletehow horrifying for her. Glad she has spoken. i hope that gives her power... and allows her to continue to heal.
ReplyDeleteThis ia more common than you think. Sick MFers out there.
ReplyDeleteyes, that was an amazing video. she is super brave. how she could have risen above such horrendous abuse is miraculous.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it will come out in the next few days why the abuser/father isn't in prison. he should be locked away for life and then some. he'll no doubt deny it.
Is there a statute of limitations on incest/rape? Or does it vary by state?
ReplyDeleteIt is unbelievable to me that on the Gawker site, many are calling bs on this. This does not look like acting to me. I have to feel sorry for any man with the same name (Steven Bresler) though. The real one should probably go into hiding before he gets lynched.
ReplyDeleteW O W
ReplyDeleteThis is an amazing video and I actually signed up to her account to send her a message.
ReplyDeleteHow do you guys feel about gawker, jezebel comments? I find everybody to be so edgy, so try-hard that its annoying, like people defending lindsay lohan level. And I dont get their comment policy. So @Lyne Dumas, im not surprised that people over there call bs on this :P
ReplyDeletefucking amazing. I quit those sites some time ago and I only go back very seldom. I rather Lainey, Dlisted, this site (obvs) or even 12 year old celebitchy trolls that people up their own a**es like in gawker et al.
Oh honey, my heart goes out to you. You are a strong lady. Please press charges on this monster. Please! Nobody should get away with what he did. Stay strong, honey.
ReplyDeleteIf this is fake she deserves an Oscar, she will be the best actress on the planet and make Meryl, Glenn and Helen look like amateurs. I believe her but I can't believe she is naming this guy and willing to take the consequences, that is something rare and courageous of her to do. I think her father will deny it happened and play the victim, because that's what they do. I hope this inspires others to name names too. I understand why she feels the need to be armed, it's sad that she feels she has to while her father has none of the burden of his actions.
ReplyDeleteWow I've never heard of her...at all.
ReplyDeleteAll I'm going to say is that she did a huge thing. Now she needs to do another - a PSA video that tells young girls going through that "tell a trusted teacher... They are mandatory reporters and they have resources and will be on your side. It's a pretty simple thing to tell if a 6 y.o. Has been sexually penetrated. Then they will get the monster pretending to be your father/stepfather/other trusted person and you don't have to worry... Because he will never know that it was you.
ReplyDeletePredators like this guy are far too common - that their victims grow up to be such bright, confident, funny, and talented people as this brave young women? Far, far less common.
Why would anyone assume this is B.S.? What on earth could she possibly gain from it, other than finally taking control of her own body and life and turning the tables on the bastard. For the first time in her life, she owns herself. Good for her!
ReplyDeleteOh, and I'm also a rape survivor, so I do speak from experience. When I had this moment in my healing, I didn't have YouTube to broadcast it, so I just told everyone I knew. To my shock, about half the women informed me that a similar situation had happened to them at some point in their lives, and some of the men.
If only all of us were this vocal about it, people might realize how shockingly common sexual abuse is.
@SusanB, yes, it varies by state, but nearly all of them have limits (unlike murder).
ReplyDeleteThis is so horrifically sad. That poor, poor, poor girl.

ReplyDeleteThis is so sad, but I hope it helps her heal.
ReplyDeleteOne of the commenters on Gawker published the father's name, phone number and address. He used the names named in this video to track the father down. Supposedly he lives in Corry, PA.
Heartbreaking. Yeah, the rapist father will soon realize that karma is a bitch.
ReplyDeleteI just saw that, @Audrey. And there are a couple of links to her parents' divorce orders, citing "cruel and inhumane treatment."
ReplyDeleteI wonder how long it will take before Gawker removes Bresler's personal information.
wow. what an amazing girl. moved me to tears. Not just that she is a survivor, but so strong.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful woman, courageous.
ReplyDeletePoor girl. She's really strong.
ReplyDeleteSome of the posters on Gawker are real assholes. One wants to see the mother's dental records before s/he will believe it.
ReplyDeleteI scanned the divorce papers. The one thing I don't understand is how/why the mom hung around so long if Steven Bresler was such an animal. At the first sign I would have packed up the kids and gotten the fuck OUT.
Incredibly brave of her. Bravo & maybe this will inspire anyone in the same position to go to the authorities.
ReplyDeletefound Brie Lybrand's father pics and bio here http://showbizdaily.net/?p=2406 what a bastard!
ReplyDelete@mango, the thing is, what is "the first sign"? i look back at my marriage and i'm not sure. at some point he crossed the line, but even now, 3 years out from when i left, i'm not sure when that happened. you make allowances, you try and get along for your kids. then, when you realize "this IS IT, i have to leave", you have 1) no money to leave, and 2) no where to go. by the end, my freedom was so restricted that i remember thinking i wasn't going to be able to escape. my heart ws pounding so hard in my chest that i was afraid he would hear it. i slept in my clothes for 3 days waiting for my chance to leave with my kids. even though my ex tried (later at a custody exchange) to kill me in front of the kids, and the police came, he denied it. i recorded in on my iphone and THAT'S why i got my restraining order. still, the judged looked me right in the face and said, "i will sign this, but honestly, these things happen". the family court system in this country is broken. laws and orders are for people who follow rules; this kind of "man" does not. and the courts are usually too busy to bother. plus, family law court documents are sealed. lots of abuse is made a secret by the system.
ReplyDeletePowerful, amazing that she had the courage to come out. I think she is a wonderful person. Her father deserves what ever he gets for being outed. Hope someone does something. I hope she makes some girl tell her teacher.
ReplyDeleteIf he's from Corry, he's the Director of Public Safety. http://www.corrypa.com/government.html
ReplyDeleteGod bless you. And I pray your sperm donor - I would never call him "Dad" - get everything he deserves.
ReplyDelete@SueRH - Must be him because I googled Glenda Bresler and she's from Corry, PA as well.
ReplyDeleteAaaand I just saw Miva's post.
ReplyDeleteGod Bless Brie Lybrand...
ReplyDeleteChrist...I hope the guy is at least kicked off city council...
http://showbizdaily.net/celebrity-bio/steven-g-bresler-is-brie-lybrands-rapist-father/
I feel like posting this link with @corryPA on twitter......it appears they are unaware that their director of public safety is a rapist.....
ReplyDeleteSometimes a girl's gotta let it out, much respect to you young lady.
ReplyDeleteIf this happened, it is so important that she did this. He signed up as a follower to hurt her--to insert himself back into her life.
ReplyDeleteI hope this brings attention to him and ruins him. It is incredibly brave of her to take this stand.
Unbelievaby brave. Her courage gives me hope that she'll be able to withstand and rise above the inevitable accusations of lying and "asking for it", or, like the brave commenter above said, the trivialization of the victim's pain and suffering by saying "these things happen", and "get over it". So proud of this woman.
ReplyDeleteBrave young lady, and you too Me, strength to you tonight and going forward.
ReplyDeleteMy GOD!!! You poor thing!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhy the hell is this animal not behind bars, worrying about getting raped by other inmates and taking a beating on a daily basis. It makes me sick to see the damage that these disgusting animals get away with, and it seems to be far more common then we think. Especially here in the UK.
ReplyDeleteHere is the link to his response to this matter: http://www.thecorryjournal.com/articles/2012/11/07/news/doc5099c6f942b3a714091431.txt
ReplyDeleteMy Heart goes out to anyone that has had to suffer through something like this. Try to take what happened and use it to make yourself a better person, then your abuser will have absolutely no power over you.
