#3 This foreign born A list actress in her own country and probably C list here in the US. English is not her first language and her only chance at an American film came as a result of her first language. The film was a blockbuster. She wanted to go to LA as she got lots of offers after that first film, but her boyfriend wouldn't let her. He has become so controlling and so jealous of her career that she is not allowed to own a cell phone, and he goes with her everywhere. No one understands why she stays with him, but she doesn't allow anyone to speak bad about him. Of course he has alienated most of her friends anyway.
Zhang Ziyi
Praetorian first suggested Zhang Ziyi after 54 minutes.
ReplyDeleteI think we're a lot better now.
Hmmm I thought that she was outed as a high level prostitute for the Communist party and executives in China this year. There was a huge article that Lainey did about it. Perhaps the boyfriend had his reasons?
ReplyDeleteReasons? If you're dating a hooker you kind of get what you get.
ReplyDeleteAw Zhang. Beauty doesn't get you any happiness it seems like. I think she's drop-dead.
ReplyDeleteThe thing with Bo Xilai was just overhyped.
ReplyDeleteIn China, you d better sleep if you are a pretty girl and want to get somewhere in the fields of show business, arts, singing ... the casting couch is well worn out over there.
Sexual harassment is not even in Chinese criminal code.
Is the boyfriend the Romanian dude who looks a hell of a lot like Tcheky Karyo?
I thought the prostitution accusations were false.
ReplyDeleteMen who behave this way are sickening. So fucking manipulative. Who knows what kind of head game he was running on her for her to stay with him. I'd like to take that guy, tie him down, and sear "Women are Not Property" into his flesh. And have an audience of dicks just like him watching.
ReplyDeleteBo Xilai used to have a long term affair with the main female TV newsreader in China when he was mayor of Dalian.
ReplyDeleteIn China, the 7pm news bulletin is broadcasted on EVERY channel in the country (local, private, public ...). That was high profile.
But Zhang Ziyi being paid the astronomic sum that was rumored to sleep with Bo Xilai does not make sense. The guy had so much guanxi (=clout) I m sure he did not need to pay.
I loved her in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Memoirs of a Geisha (I'm going to put that on my Netflix queue now). She's awesome and a quick peek at IMDB shows that she's been busy since then.
ReplyDeleteI miss the AZN network because it gave me a chance to see a lot of Asian films that I would not have otherwise seen (plus they had some really awesome documentaries).
I'm not Asian (obvs from past posts) but I really do appreciate those little things. And yes, it's TV but still....
If anyone has any other films to suggest, let me know.
I always assumed bail ling would be the one to have sex for money.
ReplyDeleteloved her since crouching tiger
ReplyDelete@ FlirtyChick74 - you have probably already seen them, but i quite liked "Raise the Red Lantern" and the most amazing "Farewell my Concubine"
ReplyDeleteWow...I didn't realize that it's been more than 4 years since I started visiting this site. Too bad it is not what it used to be. #oldtimer
ReplyDelete@Praetorian Hi..Love yr kitty!
ReplyDelete@Agent**It, I think that's a given.
ReplyDeleteI had this one as Audrey Toutu
ReplyDeleteHi Praetorian! I was only in lurk mode back then but I remember you! Don't be a stranger!
ReplyDeleteYes, definitely watch Raising the Red Lantern if you haven't already done so. For humor, i liked the [Japanese] Taxing Woman and Tampopo. And to round out the world of film, Like Water for Chocolate is a sensual miracle of cinematography.
ReplyDeleteRed Sorghum! The Road Home!
ReplyDeleteThank you for all of the suggestions. Can't wait to watch them. I'm putting them on Netflix now. :-) I need to take a break from the United States of Tara anyway. Been marathoning that this weekend.
