Tom Cruise Sues Tabloids For $50M

Usually when Tom Cruise sues a tabloid it is because they have called him gay. This time though he is suing the publisher of Life & Style and In Touch. Did you know they were owned by the same company? Bauer publishing. Bauer was sued by David Beckham after they ran the story about him having sex with a hooker. David Beckham lost on that one. You hear about the suit, but not always about the outcome. Tom Cruise is not going to win this one and I would also love to see how he could ever prove that he was damaged to the tune of $50M considering he has been working non-stop. Anyway, he is suing because both magazines ran a headline that said Tom abandoned Suri. Even though Tom has not seen Suri in forever, he takes issue with the word abandoned. He is not going to win. He just wants to make a splash and what are some legal fees to him? If he does win, he says he will give the money to charity. So, if you are reading this potential jury members, Scientology does not need another $50M.

  1. I keep forgetting to say this, but everyone here should read Inside Scientology, by Janet Reitman. Crazy fascinating. Especially Tom Cruise's reaction when he finally learned about Xenu and thetans.

  4. Tom's thetans are keeping him from Suri! Oh wait, isn't he at the OT level where he can teleport to her now?

  6. Lol sure. It was basically, "What the fuck is this science fiction bullshit???" He got pissed and stopped going to auditing sessions. He was still considered a Scientologist, but distanced himself from it because he was disillusioned. This was when he was with Nicole Kidman.
There is a whole chapter called The Seduction of Tom Cruise.

  7. Dumb question, but how do we know he hasn't seen Suri? If the man can keep all his supposed gay antics out of the press for 30 years, wouldn't he have been able to arrange some kind of visit in the sly?

Whilst trying to google-up TC's reaction to Xenu, I found this interesting article about real people, and how they were brainwashed. Interesting!

  9. Nutty_Flavor -I think everyone is assuming that if Tom had seen Suri, he would have made sure everyone knew. Every time he's seen her in the last 4 months, he's invited the press along on their daddy-daughter dates. I would actually assume that he's seeing her as much as he ever did, but people are just paying attention now.

  13. As much as things Tom does bother me, this cover really disturbs me. No matter whether he has seen her or not recently, how would Suri feel if she saw this cover? My heart breaks for her being on a cover with those words, as it does for everything celeb child forced into the media. I wish children weren't considered fair game.

  14. *every* celeb child

  15. Beta - thanks for the photo link. It made my day

  16. I hope Suri does not see this cover!! These magazine's should be sued when they put poor innocent children on the cover!!!

Of course I am not sticking up for Tom - but the line has to be drawn somewhere!! The celebs should try to get a bill passed where children would be off limits with photos!!!

  20. I agree about Suri, and does anyone know---has Anderson Cooper ever weighed in on any of these stories? His poor mother was a media figure as a little girl, as her parents' dirty laundry was all over the papers when she was way too young to have any say.

He talks about his mother so little, but I wish he could just call up Katie and have a long talk with her, what this could do to poor Suri.
    She's SIX, right? Good lord.

  21. Suri is better off without him...

  22. What MISCH said.

With the little crazy man out of her life she only has to contend with Katie's style choices, which is a large enough burden.

  23. Its really no one's business his often he sees Suri. It must be frustrating to hv stories made up about u. Even if this is true, like was said above, think of the little girl, instead of selling ur mags.

  24. @Amber-apparently Operating Thetans (Tom is OT VIII I think?)should be able to control and manipulate, "MEST" (matter, energy, space, time. To me it sounds like having kickass super powers!!

  25. @artemis - I suppose that's what happens when your religion is made up by a sci-fi writer. Hah.

  26. I've always had doubts that Suri was Tom's kid but bizarrely I think that she looks just like him in that cover photo.

  27. I think Tom Cruise could win this one. Say what you want about him being a big weirdo, but calling him a negligent parent is slanderous and wrong. I hope he wins.

He won his last case even though it was a French paper or mag and I believe he donated that money to charity. I want him to win now and do the same thing with the money. You don't have to like Tom Cruise, but this is more than harmless gossip, it's gross slander.

  28. @Seaward or anyone who knows,

If Tom initially thought it was b.s., how did they later get him to believe in xenu and thetans and become such a champion of it?

  29. This lawsuit won't go anywhere because Tom will never allow himself to be deposed, especially if it is about Scientology. Just like his previous lawsuit vs Star for some story about Katie being on "drugs." They dropped it because they didn't want her to be deposed. This is just Tom making a big deal so we think he's such a great dad.

  30. It's an opinion, therefore not slanderous. Proving slander in anything that could conceivably be chalked up to opinion is a virtually impossible hill to climb. Calling him gay is different, that would be a matter of fact, not opinion.
