Ellen put Taylor Swift on the spot yesterday and I think it made Taylor realize just how many boyfriends she has had, and this is just since she became a public figure. Great game idea by Ellen though.
Taylor Swift has a line of greeting cards. I did not know this but found out while looking for an anniversary card for my husband. I thought that was pretty random. I didn't buy one cause I have a rep to protect.
So a guy like George Clooney or (insert another male actor's name here) can date as many people as he wants, but as soon as Taylor does it, she's put on the spot for it? I don't even like Taylor Swift, and I find this sexism appalling. She's a young girl, and she doesn't know what she wants. Why shouldn't she date everyone and anyone she wants? There are a million ice cream flavors for the same damn reason. Leave a late-teenager alone to do what young twenty-somethings do in real life.
@Diane I couldn't agree more. Who is she hurting and she is a grown ass woman who can do what or whomever she wants or needs. I say ppl leave her alone how does this even effect ur life. If it does get.help now
George Clooney has been put on the spot about his dating many time. The double standard you seem to be referring to disappeared in the 1980s. Get over it.
I can't watch this because I'm at work (so I don't know how many guys are on the list), but she's about to be 23 and has been in the business since she was 16.
Teenagers date lots of people and break up often. No surprise there. I'd be more surprised if she'd only had one boyfriend in the past 6 years.
Second. Though I dont want to listen to the "how could you?!" album she later makes about the dolphin. The lyrics and attitude make it very transparent who she targets as an audience. Now i know how my grandpa felt when i would listen to my angsty music. :)
*I mena, isn't that the basis of her song catalog? I was in love with you & you did me wrong. Except the one about Taylor L. She was nice to him at least.
Ellen didn't say anything was wrong with having a lot of boyfriends; she just pointed out that Taylor had a lot. So have I and in today's world who really gives a f--k!
I'd rather see a girl that age have a lot of boyfriends than settle down early before she's fully mature. A lot (not all, but a lot) of early marriages don't make it because one or both parties haven't become a mature adult yet.
She was a teenager for most of these "relationships"...of COURSE she was "in love" with every single one of them. Teenagers are ALWAYS in love with whomever they're dating.
Doing what every other teenager has done seems to make her perfectly normal, not trite, or flighty or weird. Granted, every other teenager is not a Grammy winning singer/songwriter, but how many of you sat at home and wrote out depressing poems or song lyrics as odes to your mournfully lost loves hen you were young? Or, as you moved on, went on and on about what an asshole the ex was? She just has a VERY public outlet for her angst.
There is no freaking way that that silly twit doesn't know exactjy how many dudes she has *ahem* dated. She makes millions off of cookie-cutter, insipid break-up songs. She knows the number of every guy that she has "liked" since pre-K.
Big difference between Clooney and Swift is that she goes out and plays the "oh, poor me" card every. single. time. I'm starting to believe that she is the problem in her relationships. Reminds me of a male songwriter who purposely destroyed good relationships in order to feed his muse.
OK, seriously, break it down for all those who are saying she's young and this is normal. REALLY?! How long does it take to meet a guy, fall in love with him, be in the daily pap photos, break up with him, mourn like a 12 year old, write songs, sing songs, produce albums, get on Ellen. All that takes a while, and she does it WITH EVERY GUY. So, I'm figuring about 3 1/2 weeks per guy. That would account for all of them that she has dated.
Yea, that makes sense. No way did I nor any of my friends go through guys like that when we were her age. Our moms would have had us committed.....
What's amusing is that everyone assumes that Taylor plays this virginal princess role. If you think about it, she doesn't. People went with that because she's tall, blonde, blue eyed--basically a Disney princess come to life with glittery guitar in tow. She's Cinderella mixed with Tinkerbell. She goes along with it because there's money to be made from the facade.
Taylor said it herself: Everybody is a complicated character. The pretty princess is just one angle to her. We have no idea what lies beneath that. It'll be interesting to see if she ever reveals her other side to the public.
And the gender double standard still exists. Maybe not here, but let's not be naive about that sort of thing.
You know, despite all the smiling sweetness and "nice lady" persona, between pulling things like this on her guests, having guy stars take off as much as possible in public for charity, don't you think there's a bit of a sublimated passive aggressive mean and humiliating streak in Ellen that she's very good at hiding under her shtick?
I don't like her because she can't sing and isn't really all that talented. I find her music annoying-kinda like stumbling onto a teenager's diary or live journal entries then set to music. Every thing I have heard from her is immature crap sung in a grating monotone voice that is usually out of tune. Still it is nice to know that she is good to her fans and doesn't go around flashing her lady bits at the paps.
oh gee, I just can't guess why no guy wants to stay with her... she's 22 and acts half her age. Its like she's stuffed full of Hello Kitty dolls and cotton candy.
Some guy on Failbook said if he dated Taylor Swift, everything he'd do for her would involve orange. Orange flowers, orange everything. That way, when they break up, "just try and write a song about me!" LOLOLOL
I love it, and it's so true!
ReplyDeleteThat was fun.
ReplyDeleteTaylor Swift has a line of greeting cards. I did not know this but found out while looking for an anniversary card for my husband. I thought that was pretty random. I didn't buy one cause I have a rep to protect.
ReplyDeleteThat "Never Ever Ever" song of hers drives me ABSOLUTELY BATTY. The Short One listens to a station that plays it... ARGH!

DeleteDJane,
ReplyDeleteGeorge Clooney has been put on the spot about his dating many time. The double standard you seem to be referring to disappeared in the 1980s. Get over it.
George Clooney also doesn't write songs about his ex's. I think she is asking for all the criticism she gets. she's a pain in the ass

sometimes I wish a dolphin would kidnap her and drop her off at the Lost island-she's an annoying twat.

DeleteEllen better be careful making fun of Taylor or she might write a song about her.
ReplyDeleteAnd she was in LOVE with Every. Single. One. Of. Them.
ReplyDelete*I mena, isn't that the basis of her song catalog? I was in love with you & you did me wrong. Except the one about Taylor L. She was nice to him at least.
ReplyDeleteAccording to US weekly she and Conor broke up. Now we can all look forward to her next hit single entitled " Call me after study hall"
ReplyDeleteEllen didn't say anything was wrong with having a lot of boyfriends; she just pointed out that Taylor had a lot. So have I and in today's world who really gives a f--k!
ReplyDeleteI m with DJane
ReplyDeleteNo tv anchor would ever dream to subject George Clooney to this.

When you put on an act of being as pure as the driven snow, it's natural for people to notice you've been around the block more than a few times.

ReplyDeleteSpike: I think you're onto something regarding Ellen. I've thought the same thing, too.
ReplyDeleteShe's the epitome of what's wrong with her entire generation...oh, the narcissism!
ReplyDeleteI find Taylor weirdly hot and intensely annoying.
ReplyDelete... Which seems to be the basis for alot of my relationships actually.
