When you are a QVC host, the most important thing in your life is to keep selling. It is how you keep your job and are not fired and forced to find some work that actually involves you doing something. Of course, if you do get fired, you could always end up like Mike Rowe. Do something besides selling jewelry on 36 easy payments of $1.99 each. Anyway, while selling Android tabs for kids, QVC guest host Cassie Slane, passed out. Right there on camera. Instead of being concerned for her or possibly making the screen go dark for a couple of minutes, host Dan Hughes just kept on selling.

ReplyDeleteMike Rowe was on QVC for about a year. There are plenty of great Rowe moments from QVC. The nun doll is considered the best one.

ReplyDeleteI was in a short-lived 60's tribute band called Henry and the Henriettas, so I always smile when I see your name here. We even teased our hair up into big bouffants and had H's on our sweaters :-).

ReplyDeleteHonestly, as someone who is prone to fainting, if it happened to me while I was on live tv, I would want them to keep going. The worst part of fainting is the embarrassment of everyone staring at you when you come to. I'm guessing that someone on the crew probably jumped in to help her, so the best thing was for Mike to just keep on selling.

You mean Dan. QVC fired Mike Rowe many moons ago.
Dan's got a quota he has to meet to keep his job. The best seller on QVC was actually Kathy Levine.
Wonder what the Internet has done to shopping at home? Must have put a dent in it.

ReplyDeleteI honestly can't fault him for continuing. He probably new (since we can't see it on screen) that she was getting help and the best thing to do was to remain calm and keep going. Some other sites are blasting him for continuing, but I see it as a professional thing to do, and like Cathy says above, it IS an embarassment, so let's just keep it moving. (I've fainted a time or two and I HATE when people make a big deal out of it!)

ReplyDeleteYou could hear other people in the background helping her while he kept talking. If QVC had gone to black, it would have started all kinds of rumors. Agree about the embarrassment. I fainted once at work (I had the flu but we were shortstaffed in the ER) and was absolutely mortified.
ReplyDeleteI would leave Mr. B for Mike Rowe. I could be wrong but he just seems like a nice, level headed guy. (Mr. B has a few women he has my permission to leave me for)
@Silly Girl - Once, I fainted in a crowded food court on campus (this was my freshman year of college). While I was out, some bastard stole my subway combo meal. A little over a year ago, I fainted when I was back on campus interviewing job candidates. Talk about embarassing - I fainted MID-INTERVIEW! Luckily, there was another interviewer, so the candidate wasn't just alone with an unconscious person. Then a few weeks ago, I fainted at a restaurant. When I came to, the paramedics had been called and a guy at the next table (who happened to be an EMT) was taking my pulse. By the time the paramedics arrived, I still wasn't able to stand long enough for them to take my standing blood pressure, so they had to carry me out of the restaurant to get to the ambulance. Yeah, I've had my share of embarrassment from fainting and in my opinion, the less attention that is drawn to it, the better.

What was he supp to do? Sceam and yell? As said above, he knew she wld be cared for, and i agree, as past victom, the less fuss made, the better! Member when marie ismond fainted? It happens, and thankfully she is find.

@manny - do you make fun of people with other types of medical conditions too? i realize that this is a gossip site and i don't mind snark, but i'm sure that the initial incident was embarrassing enough for her. is it really necessary to make jokes about it?
ReplyDelete@JoElla - that Precious Moments clip was hilarious! I didn't realize it was the Dirty Jobs guy until I heard him speaking; his voice is unmistakeable. He must have joked around like that on QVC in order to keep his sanity.
ReplyDeleteFWIW, I think Precious Moments and Hummels are *hideous*. I used to date a guy whose mother collected them. He loathed them too and he and I used to job about using them for target practice.

ReplyDeleteI have insomnia and I used to keep QVC on late at night when I could not sleep--and Mike Rowe was the overnight guy lots of the time.
ReplyDeleteHe was so funny--you could tell he knew nobody was watching at 3 am and he so didn't give a sh*t....I love that guy and I'm so glad he's done well after leaving them.
I know a woman who fainted after completing the viewing line at a funeral. Everyone's mind is on death already, and then an elderly lady collapses in front of them! For her it was not nerves or blood sugar; she was diagnosed with VVS. She seems better now, but how embarrassing for her to cause such a commotion at a funeral!
