Jessica Ridgeway's Body Found

It turns out that the body police found earlier this week, was in fact the body of Jessica Ridgeway. Police stated they could not immediately confirm it was her body because it had been mutilated and dismembered. I am horrified. Who does this stuff to kids? How do you grow up and this is what you need to do to make you happy? How does this happen? This is a 10 year old girl who was going to school in what is a nice, safe town and ends up getting snatched off the street and killed. Not only killed, but mutilated. What kind of sick f**k does this? The police have no leads. The FBI says it was a man who probably called in sick that day to work. That was all they could determine? Police say they have searched 500 homes. I think they need to search every home. You cannot let someone like this act out again.

  8. So sad for what happened to her. Also sad that mental illness is clearly the cause of what happened. Until we start taking mental illnesses more seriously these things will continue to happen. Guy is clearly a psychopath.

  9. Enty, if you can stomach it, read some of the books they have on FBI profiling. It's fascinating what logic they use (after interviewing thousands of criminals) to determine the types of behavior people have up to, during, and after a crime is committed. There are set patterns, and then there are the ones that defy all logic.

The fact that the FBI thinks this person is employable must mean that he is someone that people trust to hold a job. Many criminals can't hold onto jobs and usually it's the act of getting fired that triggers some people to kill.

Re. "taking mental illness seriously"...we're not talking about a guy with depression here. Was there ever a time when we didn't take homicidal psychopaths seriously?

As I said in the original Jessica Ridgeway thread, You're kidding yourself if you think the police would announce to the public that they have leads and then spell them all out for you. This is an investigation, the goal is to catch a monster! The public's desire to know what's happening doesn't mean squat! The less the cops/FBI share about their leads, the better the odds they'll catch the culprit before they scare him off or escalate the pattern of his crimes. Let them say they have no leads and are searching blindly, and hope that translates into "shhhh.....we're about to nail the bastard!"

  18. This is tragic, and there is no silver lining, but I do want to point a few things out.

    1) These types of crimes are more rare these days than they used to be - we just hear about them much more because of the 24-hour news cycle and social media. If you are old enough, you might recall the Atlanta child murders of 1979 - 1981 where over 20 kids were abducted and killed. But you might not recall it either, because it wasn't on the news constantly.

    2) The perps are usually caught more quickly these days because of DNA, better information sharing (i.e. getting the word out that the suspect probably missed work that day) etc. It takes a community of vigilant people to help law enforcement, and our communications infrastructure assists that in a major way.

    3) As heartbreaking as this story is, I wish the media would spend even 1/10th the air time on the thousands of children in our communities that live horrific lives of abuse and neglect and might themselves wish they were dead. My point is that there are living children that need our help, that don't have food or education or love, that barely have a chance in life. These rare abduction stories garner so much attention that they eclipse the thousands of stories of living, breathing kids that are in desperate situations.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Yes stranger abductions are very rare. Most of the time when you here of a child missing it is a parent or relative involved. A child has much more of a chance of being harmed by a new boyfriend of mom's then a stranger.

  19. Psychopathy is not a mental illness. It is a personality disorder for which there is no cure. Some people are just evil.

  21. @MAC - agree completely. It seems there are just some people who are born without souls. And there are some who just allow Satan to take their souls over. (No religious slams, please).

  23. I just looked at her picture yesterday after reading the news and could only think, "Poor baby, you didn't deserve that". I'm an atheist, but choose to believe we have consciousness that moves on from these bodies, and I want to believe she is now safe and at peace.

Police are likely checking sex offender records within the area she lived. This guy will be caught. I'd be willing to bet the perpetrator lived within 2 - 4 blocks of her and probably doesn't work. Meh, some of us can pretend to be CSI or detective, because otherwise, you feel utterly helpless. I hope the mother, friends and family are getting the love and support they will need to get through this.

    ReplyDelete
  24. @MAC There is plenty that we as a society about psychopaths if we can help them early. Even if the disorder is largely genetic, early intervention can teach empathy and social behavior. This is a fact.

If we move towards a society & government structure where "you're on your own" and things like funding for early childhood education support is eliminated (see the Romney / Ryan budget), we will see more dysfunction as kids don't get help.

  25. RIP, Jessica. My prayers go to her and her grieving family.
I remember when I was Jessica's age (about 100 years ago) and if there were no kids around on my block to play with my mother would tell me, "So go to another block and find someone to play with." It was so much easier to be a child then. I was never afraid and I never heard of any kids who were abducted. Now parents won't even let their kids play in front of the house unless they are nearby watching over them. Sad state of affairs.

  27. @Lila, I totally agree. Well said. Heartbreaking and evil, and it should bring to our minds all of the people in the world, past and present, who suffer at the hands of others - political prisoners, the domestically abused children and adults, and on and on. Unfortunately, torture and mutilation are not just found in these type of horrific, publicized cases.

  29. Isn't that kind of excessive mutilation often considered ... personal? As in, someone who knows and hates and holds an extreme grudge against the person (or, in this case, maybe against the mother or the father and took it out on the daughter to inflict as much pain as possible)?

  32. @SusanB I say this with respect to your beliefs and in no way am attempting (even passive aggressively) to slam you or anyone else that believes like you do. <3

We've all got free will. We've all got the potential deep inside to do dark things, but most of us choose not to. I believe that when others for example rely on god to bring them blessings or blame satan for all the bad things, they give their power to choose away and become victims. And there are way too many ppl in this world with victim mentality (I am guilty of this too).

    ReplyDelete
  33. @Coriander - I understand what you're saying - in some cases, I think people CHOOSE to give their souls over to what Satan represents. Some call it Satan, other call it evil, or the dark side. It's all the same, just a different name.

  34. I cried this morning. That poor baby. I can't imagine how cold and deranged the sicko who did this must be.

I have a hunch that it's the same person involved in those attempted abductions. They've probably been casing the neighborhood, looking for a target. Sick sick SICK. This poor girl barely made it out of her house (again, a hunch) before this monster snatched her.

Once law enforcement catches him, throw him in general, and let the inmates deliver their own special brand of justice.

Even though that little girl is now safe in Heaven, I still wish she got to live her life to the fullest. No child deserves to be robbed of their future and killed so brutally. Her family is in my prayers.

  41. ok...I'm going to say it, there are some sick individuals out there, and even some who group together, such as the rocking x ranch in colorado (google "beth holloway vanished, johnny gosch" to comprende). ANd just days before this child's body was found, I read on henry makow's site about how to spot satanists, to which he said notice an onslaught of missing cats and kids around certain days, days which are ritualistic for these sort of people (days which I just do not know). NOW, this child' body turns up, and dismembered?!?! Idk about you, but I do feel that there are satanists practicing everywhere. I do believe the story's such as the franklin credit scandal (paul bonacci's story), what happened with the pedo ring in PA, the jersey kid home in the UK, etc (and some I even know to be fact). I also know that without a doubt, anyone who deems it fit to use a child or sex or turn a blind eye to it, IS in fact a satanist, regardless if the claim otherwise.

Many of the human's in this world are F'ed up, but they do hide it sooo well.

My thoughts go to her poor grieving family.. And to all that suffer because of another humans abuse.

OMAMMA - I believe you're correct in regards to practicing satanists. We had a huge wave of missing cats in my neighborhood two years ago. My sweet kitty Sake was one of the missing. Dismembered body parts of cats started showing up in people's lawns for a few weeks afterwards. It was all over the news and police seemed to think it could've been a group of satanic worshipers. The worst part was receiving a phone call during that time at 2 am from blocked number. Someone had read one of my missing cat posters and called my number and left a disturbing message detailing all the things they did to my cat. I forwarded it to the police but as far as I know, no one was ever caught. There are some sick fucks in this world.

  46. "Psychopathy is not a mental illness. It is a personality disorder for which there is no cure. Some people are just evil."

Personality disorders ARE mental illnesses. Or DSM disgnoses, if you'd prefer. And "psychopathology" is not a personality disorder. Antisocial or narcissistic personality disorders are, which are often the disorders stuck under the layman's term of "psychopathology."

All that said, this is a tragedy, full stop. I have to say, though, that I'm surprised that you, Enty, being a lawyer and all -- AHEM -- would actually suggest arbitrarily searching the homes of everyone. Seriously?!

  47. If there's any similarity here, Lieby Kletzky's murderer and dismemberer got 40 to life. Google that one parents if u never want to let your kids out of your site again. He begged his parents for weeks to let him walk to school alone bc he was a "big boy" and the very first day he got lost and asked the wrong man for directions. The guy was completely crazy. How nobody reported him before is just as insane. Well he dismembered Lieby bc he wouldn't all fit.... where he wanted to dispose of him. Jesus Christ how the fuck is this happening. The murderer will be caught, don't worry. I just shared this so maybe you find some comfort that he's caught and will get locked away.

  54. There are like 50 sites devoted to "hands-off" parenting, because the members maintain that being "helicopter" parents just makes kids fearful and shy.

Sorry; when I read stories such as this one I want to have all kids driven to and from school, and the ones who walk have armed guards. This is one of the most horrifying things I've ever read. The mind resists thinking about the events before her terrible death.

What's more horrifying is that this psychotic murderer has probably done this before, and will do it again. Surely someone saw something during her abduction.

There are many stories of people who do things like this who show no remorse at all for their victims, literally none. All they are sorry about is that they got caught. Ted Bundy snivelled like a baby when he got the death penalty and said "I don't want to die!" to an interviewer. As I said. Only sorry for himself that he got caught. Not sorry about all those people he killed whom I'm sure did not want to die either. Whoever did this to Jessica is probably exactly the same and I hope they find him ASAP because he is going to do this again. They never stop after once.

The only good thing to come out of this, and I'm sure it doesn't feel like much right now, is that at least her family has closure. It must be even worse to never know what happened.
