Jay-Z Takes The Subway
For seven nights at the new Barclay's Center in Brooklyn, Jay-Z had his car and driver take him to the show. For the 8th night he decided to take the subway. Yes, that was Jay-Z on the R train. I know, I know, your enthusiasm was tempered by the fact that you kept looking around to see if Beyonce joined him and then you laughed and laughed when you realized that was and is never going to happen. Beyonce on the R train? Using a strap hanger? Not going to happen. It was good to see the man who almost has a car pool nickname using some public transportation. When Jay came out of the Atlantic Avenue station, the crowd waiting to go into the show saw him and that is when all hell nearly broke loose, but because it was such a shock, he got away with it.
PLEASE
ReplyDeleteBrooklyn must have gotten a lot safer. I can remember days when you took your life into your hands, changing trains at Atlantic Avenue.
ReplyDeleteUgh. He and his wife and "their" child need to go away. He is one of the problems, and nothing he does will correct it.
ReplyDeleteHe disgusts me.
"Their" kid? Even if they used a surrogate/gestational carrier, the kid would be biologically theirs, so that's a strange thing to say. Using a surrogate to carry your child doesn't make it less your child. And even if they used a surrogate because of severe infertility issues and not just his wife's desire not to go through pregnancy, and the kid isn't biologically theirs, she would still be "their" kid, in my opinion. Of course, I think there is NO CHANCE the baby isn't biologically their child because if they faked a pregnancy and the surrogate carrying a baby not biologically Beyonce's changed her mind and wanted to keep it, not only would it be a legal mess but a huge PR catastrophe.
DeleteAs for this story, I have no opinion. It's part of his job to make people believe he still remembers his roots, I guess. Otherwise he would lose "authenticity," if you still believe he has any.
Considering he could've easily predicted the commotion this would cause, it was a bit jerky of him to not clue police in on his plan before doing this so they could be prepared.
ReplyDeletePlease is right! Everytime Jay Z is out promoting his stadium and team, I feel the need to promote a documentary I watched about how the Atlantic Yards project called Battle for Brooklyn. These guys came in, forcibly took people's homes and businesses to make way for the stadium. Pushed them out and tore down a community.

Thanks Dia- will check it out!
DeleteDoesn't he have a teeny tiny stake in that team? The media refers to it as "his" team, but it's not, really. His share is so minuscule it's like they gave him a little bit of equity in the team to get free publicity and in exchange for him to be their spokesperson.
DeleteLol yes, jay z owns less than 1/15th of 1 percent.
DeleteAnd that percentage still translates to 100s of millions a year. So what's your point?
DeleteI wish that subway would have driven him to oblivion. He's such a narcicistic jerk.
ReplyDeleteThe woman he is sitting there with his arm around probably doesn't even know who he is........
ReplyDeleteI was just thinking the same thing!
DeleteEnty, when Jay-Z and Beyonce were at Paris last year(they stayed 2/3 weeks),they took several times Paris' subway to visit around the Champs Elysés(not the worst aera) until the fans discover they were at Paris
ReplyDeleteBe maybe is a diva but she's not so posh
Jay-Z is going to have to perform at every halftime if he wants to get "cool" Brooklynites to come to Nets games.
ReplyDeleteAnd now he will go into his 17000th retirement and come out if it next month. I can't stand this asshole.
ReplyDeleteUh, Beyonce has taken the NYC subway before.

Sold his soul to the devil for fame and fortune. Beware
ReplyDeleteMaybe, she had her baby with her.
ReplyDeleteThanks Chris for the video
ReplyDeleteLove her!!
damn he's fugly shit
ReplyDeleteYes, the "their kid" comment...
ReplyDeleteEven if they adopted, that kid is their kid.
ftr, enty, the R train doesn't have 'straps'...the hangie thingies are all metal now. #timeforyoutovisitagain
ReplyDelete...and what's funny about this story is that jayz took the R at canal street. he lives in tribeca, and his closest lines are the 2 and the 3. easy access into atlantic terminal from either, just not w/ as many folk who'd give a crap. further, if commuting was his sole reason, he could've taken the N at canal, which a) has the newer comfier, less squeaky cars AND b) gets you into atlantic terminal in less than half the time the R would--which winds it's way thru downtown's financial district before crossing under into bklyn, and has a bajillion more stops. i can't hate tho, you gotta love how he knows how to work the pr machine. i may not like him, but he's doing it right.
as a sidenote, a bunch of us industry types were given a tour of BC a little while back...the entire venue, both house and backstage are fantastic...total state of the art. it's not going to take away from the holy mother cathedral of all venues that is the Garden (well that's a lie...they did advance a little biebs date...and their load-in/out looks easier than the cluster-f that is my beloved MSG), but it will pull from Prudential (in Newark) and it'll send all third tier artists back to the boonie land that is Nassau. it'll be interesting to see what this does--or doesn't do--for Bklyn.
Some of these comments are hilarious lol ... I wasn't aware that so many people hate Jay-z. Can't say that I'm a fan, but I don't hate him either. I don't know if he's done anything worth hating. Can somebody fill me in?
ReplyDeletetake a wild guess. a lot of people whose lives aren't going the way they planned are pissed that a man who they feel has a less than stellar past is doing so exceedingly well. he's living the dream and they hate it. really tired if the baby rumor stuff too. I saw her belly with my own eyes and their midwife/doula is a friend of my family. She gave birth give it a rest people!
Deleteowing to his criminal past, I just cant with this guy.
ReplyDeleteI take it the subway is very safe considering he is wearing a fortune in gold around his neck.
ReplyDeleteI think he is trying to cop a feel herre....
ReplyDeleteum, Enty, the trains don't have "straphangers" anymore, it's just poles...the riders are the Straphangers
ReplyDeleteThere was undercover police and security with him. Stop hatin'
ReplyDeleteRihanna took the tube to one of her concerts in London last year or the year before. Major press coverage as a result. Yawn, Jay-Z
ReplyDelete@ Frenchgirl -- there is NO comparison between the NY subway system and the Paris Metro ! That's like comparing Newark to Beverly Hills !
ReplyDeleteI've been on both and believe me, I stopped going on the NY subway 15 years ago, when the hub took me to a Yankees game. I told him I didn't like the subway.
Well, after some crazy, homeless black man started singing to everyone and panhandling, and I started whispering and cursing my husband out saying I would kill him if we made it out of the train alive, that was the end of my subway riding ! By the way, I was so pissed off I'm sure it showed on my face. I guess the panhandler wasn't THAT crazy because he actually avoided me.
