Nailed it.
so much truth yet i like these films
I wonder if Enty is enjoying his reality tv marathon. The hubs and I have been watching horror movies all weekend. Just finished Trolls, the Night of the Dark Scarecrow, The Sentinel and The Changling. and will start another soon. Anyone have any good scary movies to recommend?
Not that anyone is reading this particular post . . .
Sugar- there was a movie, I think called Cave. About girls going into some caves and getting lost. The trailer alone made me lose my shiz :) maybe someone will know the name before I come back after googling.
The descent
Sounds right up my alley! I love any horror movie that starts something like 4 friends seek solitude in an isolated cabin or 5 sorority girls ditch a school trip to party in an abandoned house in the woods.
Oh and thanks Smash! We decided on The Hole costarring a CDaN favorite BI subject, Thora Birch. The Decent is in the queue!
I haven't seen this (too chickensh*t), but that was very amusing.
I saw that Cave movie - when I was a kid and went into some caves in Tucson, they shut off the lights and it was pitch black. I imagined that there were human-devouring creatures hiding and waiting. So yes, caves scare the crap out of me.
Anyone watching, "American Horror Story" this season? It's extra scary and very sexual fetishy. (Ryan Murphy has issues, LOL) I've never managed to watch more than several minutes of, "The Exorcist", so the 2nd episode scared the bejeebus out of me.
AHSA is so good this season. Loved AHS too last year. Guilty pleasure
The Descent is brilliant. If you're at all claustrophobic, it may be one of the scariest movies you've ever seen. I also recommend watching it a second time with the commentary - it's very interesting.
I also love Thir13en Ghosts. It's my Halloween Movie. It's got Tony Shalhoub, Matthew Lillard, Embeth Davidtz and F. Murray Abraham. It's about a family and a ghost-hunter locked in a really cool house with 12 ghosts of evil killers. It's definitely a bit cheesy, but in the good way, and it is kind of spooky.
@Mooshki, I love that one, I own it. Cheesy, like you said, but scares me every time.
@MadLyb, I'm a big fan of AHS but not as excited for this season. I remember watching the first few episodes of last season two or three times before each new one would premier. I hope this one gets more interesting for me. The asylum part completely freaks me out tho, I don't know why I'm not as into it.
For what it was, the first Paranormal Activity wasn't bad at all (spoilers coming, for those of you who've not seen it but still care to). If you go in totally ignoring the hype, and ignoring a couple of minor plausibility snafus (all movies have 'em, if we're being honest), PA was pretty darned good. Actually much better than Blair Witch Project, in my opinion. The "hook" of the movie is seeing all that weird shit happen to the protagonists (and, vicariously, the viewer) while they (you) are asleep, but after the fact. When the ouija board caught on fire, I was like "ahhh, scariness is being compromised here" And the sleepwalking (or possession or whatever?) tended to short-circuit the scariness of things as well. Still, I liked it. The characters behaved in a plausible manner (more or less) and Katie Featherston was way cute. Just my two cents, tho'...
I'm with you EmEyeKay, AHS Asylum is not doing it for me at all :(. Already taken it off my DVR.
@Sugar:
If you're looking for what IMHO is the best modern horror flick, try "Phantasm" (The original, not any of the sequels)... however, if you're at all affected by what you watch, don't do it at night.
If you're looking for classics, nothing beats the 30's Universal Studios trio of Dracula, Frankenstein & Bride of Frankenstein.
In that vein (sorry, couldn't resist), the 1978 Dracula starring Frank Langella is also a must see.
There has never been a sexier Dracula.
Laughing all the way to the bank, Mr. Peli is.
Agreed with others that The Descent is really good, especially that first hour. I pretty much crossed off spelunking as an extracurricular activity after seeing that film.
Spelunking just sounds...wrong.
smashbash, my bf and I watched the cave, the descent, trapped beneath the earth, etc., etc., -- a marathon of like eight movies about "a half dozen hipsters, sometimes all female, who go underground and get lost or fight mutant zombie cave thingeys" and it was great
i love those films
oh, and the horrible "eaters of the dead" was in there somewhere
