Britney Spears Was A Mess

A jury was finally picked, and opening arguments began yesterday in the Sam Lufti defamation suit against Britney Spears' mother. The opening argument by Sam Lufti's lawyer was more like reading The Enquirer than anything else you would normally hear in a courtroom. We already knew that Britney had a really bad 2007, and early 2008, but this all just confirmed it. We had already heard about Britney's crystal meth habit which was supposed to be extraordinary. She also used amphetamines. Lots of them. So many in fact that is what caused her to get placed in a 5150 hold because she took too many one day. She shaved her head to hide possible drug use. Even though she had not rehearsed, she thought she could go out and just kill it at the 2007 MTV Awards. Yeah, that did not work out so well. This was just day one of the trial. This is going to be really good stuff. Just wish Britney was allowed to testify.

  1. That performance of Gimme More still slays me. Poor girl.

  2. I remember watching that performance live. What a disaster.

  3. Why on Earth would you wish she could testify? I can't imagine she'd be anything less than mortified if she was forced to sit in that courtroom and listen to this stuff, knowing that it's all being made public. She's fragile as it is.

  4. As soon as she shaved her head I thought she was doing it to hide her drug use.

And that 'performance' eeek! Poor girl indeed.

    Happy Friday CDaNers!!

  5. Sam Lufti gives bastards & douches a bad name.

  6. But can't you do blood tests and or urine tests ? Shaving the head wasn't the smartest thing to do. Oh ya and I had a horrible case of second hand embarrassment from that performance. Yeeeesh

  7. Enty may think her parents are keeping her against her will, but who the hell knows how in touch with her "will" she really is? She may have made some questionable decisions before, but she didn't go totally off the rails until Lufti was in her life. What a scumbag and total waste of resources this guy is.

  8. I honestly can't tell the difference between this performance and any other of her performances. Lip synching, skimpy costumes, mild attempt at dancing. I know she was better in the earlier days but around this time and since then, I haven't seen anything different from her. Oh and add in that she didn't even get her extensions done before the performance. That is the first thing you see on the video.
I do agree with Amber that she must be mortified that all this is being said about her. I do feel bad. She needs to regroup and come back strong but the more time passes, the more I think that will never happen.

  9. I agree Brit was obviously a total mess, but I don't necessarily believe anything where the primary and loudest source in Sam Lufti. It's like he was born to embody "smarmy".

  10. Happy Friday back @rejected! (and to everyone else)

  11. That performance was a reminder that she is somewhat fragile. With lots of support and structure, she's one of the greatest song stylists of all time (esp. with those warbling "oh yeah" and grace notes). A good Britney song is dripping with Britness. She can even make "Happy Birthday to You" sound like a multi-layered lamentation of heartbreak. Oh, wait, this is a post about her meltdown years. Yes, she melted down big time. It was sad. She's back on track, though.

  13. No doubt Enty is right. Lots of horrific details of Britney's problems will come to light. No matter how bad these may turn out to be, however, nothing can excuse the shameful way in which the legal system has virtually enslaved her to her father--and to anyone else he may choose to name including Jason Trawick. How many other people in this country today are in every bit as bad a shape as Britney was then? Easily tens of thousands, I would guess, if not many, many more. And how many of these other unfortunates have been made virtual slaves? Zero. None. Nada. Why? Because Britney's current legal status never had anything to do with preventing her from harming herself further. It had to do solely with the fact that she is super-rich, and that her family fully intends to continue to batten off the fortune their daughter has earned for herself.

    ReplyDelete
  14. @Robert - The flipside to that is that she IS super rich. In as bad of shape as she was/is in, her mental state leaves her terribly vulnerable and likely unable to fend off other people (Lufti) that have nothing but bad intentions of bleeding money from her. Without intervention, she could've ended up completely burnt out and flat-ass broke.

None of the people around her are doing what's best for her. Sam Lufti is a bottom feeding troll who is still milking the situation for all its worth. I believe the allegations, however, her family is still better for Britney than he is. It's just sad that they can't/won't give her the life she really needs. Like it has been said before she is fragile and emotionally stunted. She's a trick pony who just wants to be applauded and given admiration. So sad, I don't see her ever fully recovering unless her parents leave her alone and she leaves the limelight.

  16. My girl Brit!

Success story, right? She didn't end up like LiLo. Her family violently intervened and saved her. She's still fragile but she's alive and functioning and hopefully happy with her new life. I think she still looks broken inside. The eyes never lie.

I am rooting for her continued success. She IS very strong bc the demons (extreme in her case) didnt win. She still has her boys and she looks like she really loves them.

And I don't give a shit about what comes out in the trial. Sam Lufti major parasite douchebag will come out looking even shittier than he already does. A money grubbing bottom feeder.

  19. So this is why we no longer see her mother around ?
I wondered, since mom was the one who pushed and pushed her...

  20. ^^ Everything Amber said.

  21. I feel like the parents took control because they saw what that asshole Lufti was doing! If she kept on that track I think Lufti would be the rich one and Brit would be working because she needed money not because she wanted to! I think her working on XFactor is really good too - steady work and she has a purpose!
I'm biased I like Brittney and I hope she is getting better!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I am really glad she is doing better and I don't think she could have turned it around by herself, so I don't see the conservatorship as a bad thing, and I don't think she see's it as a bad thing either or else she would be fighting it.

That being said, I really really miss cray-cray Brit Brit.

  24. @MBk - Drugs can be processed through your blood and urine somewhat quickly, however, traces of them can also grow out through your hair. Since your hair takes so long to grow, and if you're a female with long hair, that's a pretty long drug history. (I believe the FBI tests hair of potential agents, but I'm not 100% on that.)

    ReplyDelete
  25. Missed you around here Em. Glad to see your red cape back in action!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Thanks, Amber : )

    ReplyDelete
  27. Yes, blood and urine can be used to drug test as well waiting for hair to grow back or using any other hair on the body.

This assumes of course, that a crystal meth user would be logical and think of those things.

    ReplyDelete
  28. @cam- lots of drugs have a short half life and won't be present within 1 week sometimes 2 for urine. About the same for blood. I used to work in a Dr office where the other side had occupational health and they did drug testing. The guy told me that it doesn't matter if you shave your head, he could pull pubes from groin area or under arms. If not there, he said he could use eyebrows or other places. He said you can't beat the hair test by removing it. You would be amazed at how many places actually do the hair test. It's expensive though and results take longer.

    1. This is what I know from years ago when I worked. I stay home now so I'm not in the know of how it has all evolved, but I'm sure it has only got harder to beat.

  29. they need to just let her be - obviously working isn't for her. She's still very unstable you can tell by looking at her the levels of anxiety she suffers from being in the public eye.

Yes it was good her father intervened. But enough is enough. she's not spending time with her boos and just needs to be left alone. Send her back to Louisana to live with Jamie Lynn -who at least seemed to know enough NOT to come back to celeb life after her teen pregnancy.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I'm with @RomanHoliday...since her father intervened (b/c Lynn Spears seems to be rarely in the picture) Britney has been back on a seemingly normal and healthy track. During her time with this leech Sam Lufti and prior to her dad taking steps to help, she was a mess beyond a mess. The fact that she has so much money AND serious issues makes her at a huge risk for being taken advantage of by ppl like Lufti. It's not like her father has free reign over her accounts - a court of law approves all spending. Not to mention, prior to her father stepping in, Britney was incapable of touring, performing (see video), etc. and spending money like it was going out of style. As many people familiar with severe mental illness can attest, sometimes the hardest part of treating bipolar or manic depression is getting the person to take their medicine and be a functioning member of society b/c the meds make ppl feel they have 'lost' their personality. If Britney seems sedated and medicated, there might just be a reason why and it might not be such a bad thing. I hardly think any parent wants to have to go to the courts and tell them their child is incapable of taking care of themselves or their own children, and maybe her family's motives are not as nefarious as oh say, Sam Lufti. It doesn't take an expert to see Britney 2012 is in a healthier state than Britney 2007.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Sam Lufti sounds like that gum on your shoe you just can't get off. Even after her parents and doctors get her back on track, he comes back like the killer who won't die to sue for defamation. Britney was supposed to be his lottery ticket.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Ms. Spears has been scrutinized and in the public eye from a very young age. I understand as a public figure her life will be in the spotlight more often than not, but I do admit I'm surprised how many people (not this website, just in general when she went off the deep end) blame it on drug use only. I don't know her and don't treat her, but I think there's a heckuva lot more than that.

So she married KFed after her first (annulled) marriage. Kooky, but I've seen it happen. I remember being disgusted, but if she loves him, whatever. Then trying to get pregnant right away. Ok, maybe not best choice, but doesn't spell disaster.

When she got pregnant with JJ i remember watching footage of her behavior and lack of time spent with him (how it appeared). IMO, only, I think she went from being a little off the wall to severe post psrtum depression. That shit is real. And it's devastating. So out goes KFed and in comes Lufti, readyto pounce, just feed a steady diet of mind altering medications to have more control over someone who isnt getting proper medical treatment.

As far as shavinghead- I once had a client do that (she had never been on any drugs r anything of the sort. -- she carried a diagnosis of bipolar disorder). When she came in to session and showed me, she said she did it because she felt she deserved to punish herself for hurt she's caused others. Then she cried for 40 minutes. I felt so bad for her... point being that head shaving isn't atypical for people who feel really low. Or, if they have lice.

  33. First time poster, and I been trying to figure out a good place to join you guys awesome conversations. I just wanted to add that I don't think Britney's family is doing anything wrong. My husband has severe depression and PTSD and his doctors have made it perfectly clear that he should no longer be in charge of our finances or other important decisions. He never had a Britney level episode, but it just isn't something he can handle. They also encourage him to work and participate in activities. It is a great thing that Britney's family is having her record and tour. That is her job and it can seriously help to have a distraction from her own mind and a focus. She is super vulnerable because of her wealth so I'm assuming that's why its all done through the legal system. Its not as simple as me telling my husband I'm paying the bills from now on since he can't remember to. It just upsets me to see people think that she is being hurt. We all saw what happened when someone wasn't looking out for her, she needs the protection and thats ok. Next time it could be much worse than a shaved head and some shoe-less gas station trips.

  34. I don't believe sam one bit. I think they took some obvious facts about britney and twisted them to his benefit.

  35. Is Sam Lufti a bottom feeder? Sounds like it.

That said, why the hell would Brit's mom write a book and give him ammunition for a civil suit? Because she wanted to profit.

I fear that nobody has Brit's best interest at heart. Her dad pimps her out to her manager? That whole relationship seems creepy.

I agree she needs to take a break. She doesn't need to work. Why not let her go to Louisiana and eat french fries and hang with her sister?

    ReplyDelete
  36. There was also a report that she's barely seen her children since she started X-factor. That can't be good for her or them.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Umm, I thought meth WAS an anphetimine and how the hell can shaving your head hide drug use?

    ReplyDelete
  38. There's no doubt that Britney is doing better today than she was before her father's conservatorship. I don't think she'd be alive today if Lufti had control for even a few more months. He is a POS. That being said, while I know structure is good for someone with her mental disorders, it just seems a bit weird how her life is being dictated for her now. She's been working constantly, and if stories are to be believed, hasn't seen her boys that much since she's been on X-Factor.

It seems like she could use a happy medium, meaning someone to care for her and keep her busy without continually thrusting her in the spotlight like her father's people are doing. And the manager/fiance/handler thing is just a bit weird. It's just a damn shame that Lufti is going to be given a forum where he can rake her over the coals.

  40. When Brit was out of control, everyone was calling for her someone to step in and help her. Her Dad did that. And now everyone is saying he has "too much control" and should back off. He saved her from Lufti and all those shenanigans and now he's the bad guy???

    ReplyDelete
  41. This is a person in pain. In all honesty given her drug use and mental health issues I'm surprised she hasn't killed herself.

  43. Finding a happy medium can be so hard. She takes a break and then starts reverting back, what do you do? I'm not saying every decision her father has made is perfect but I give him credit for trying. It is a difficult position to be put in, and it can not be easy in him either which it seems people forget. I love my husband dearly but some days I just want to bang my head against a brick wall. I couldn't imagine watching my child deal with something like this. And to have every decision judged by the world must make it evem harder.

  45. you guys are seriously buying this "fragile Britney" shit? LMAO.

She still has a legal guardian SOLELY to prevent her from testifying!
Hello, this isn't rocket science...do you *really* think someone who is deemed too mentally ill to make basic business decisions could pull off working at Xfactor, a job with more responsibility than she's EVER had?
Think again, this is all a legal maneuver to prevent her from facing Lufti and being cross examined.

    ReplyDelete
  46. PS- watch for the conservatorship (sp) to be lifted not long after the trial ends. Then we'll see how poor fragile Britney is.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Yes! Exactly what Jax said! (My previous three comments saying the same have been vaporized by the interweb monster.) Does anyone know how conservator continuations work? If Brit herself says she still needs it, do they go on that or does she have to be evaluated by her own or the court's doctors?

  49. You can see the after effect of her messed up ways from that time period in her saggy eyelids. I have said that she does not look the same in the face every since that period. Look at before 2007 and after pics and it is obvious. Plastic surgery will probably fix that.

  52. I can't help but wonder what happened to her that she went so far off the deep end. But given all the blinds we see here, I can only imagine- poor Brit.

I think her family and their push for stardom led her to some dark things, and their guilt at seeing her so public decline made them rush back in to save her.

Half of me thinks she should be put out to pasture and the other half thinks giving her a 'job' may be what keeps her on an even level.

  54. I used to party with a girl that lost her mind. She was up for two weeks on meth and then drank some (stolen) G. She ended up in a mental ward after taking off all her clothes and running around a pool screaming that the devil was inside her. She then called the police to an afterparty claiming she was being held hostage by men with guns. Swat team raided a suburban Tampa neighborhood early one Sunday morning... This was more than a decade ago and she still isn't the same.
