William & Kate Win Their Case - Kind Of
Prince William and Kate Middleton won a hollow victory in court today in France. A court there ordered that Closer remove the topless photos from their website, which they had done on day one because it kept crashing their website. The magazine is not allowed to post any more copies of this issue and that the photos can't be published anywhere in France anymore. So, that leaves how many countries in the world? If Closer sells the photos again it has to pay $13K in fines. Considering they have been selling for 20 times that amount each time, I think they will pay the fine. They are supposed to turn the photos over by tomorrow, so lots of sales between now and then. The court also awarded $2600 in legal fees to William and Kate.
Well, its a start in right direction, and hey! Good news for halle berry, lol
ReplyDeleteAm I an asshole for thinking that NO ONE who is a celebrity should expect that they are not always being watched/photographed? To me, if you take your top off outside where a camera lens might just catch you, then you might be photographed topless.
ReplyDeleteAlso - no big whoop. It's boobs.
Where the hell did they come up with those $$s? $13K in fines? That's like making a kid sit on the step for 5 minutes for sassing.
ReplyDeleteThat is great news...I'm glad William and Kate got right on the lawsuit instead of just giving up and giving in. If they sue every time something happens, it will definitely discourage the papers from printing photos and information that should be private.
ReplyDeleteIm pissed of at the rich most of the time because of all the benefits they have in life
ReplyDeletebut things like this balance it out a tiny tiny bit :D
$2600 in legal fees, that doesnt even cover pet food chez les windsor je
Enty,you're inaccurate!
ReplyDeletecloser is forbidden to distribute the pics under every possible form and every offense(every sold magazine) ,they will pay a $13,000 fine and the mag won't be re-edited
Closer must return the pics to Will&Kate under 24 hours
@Jen14221: imagine ...you're topless away from prying eyes(you think),someone take you in pic without know it and distribute them on internet
In William & Kate position you are never away from prying eyes...never. And it's best for them to accept it and be careful.
ReplyDeletewonder how long before people will stop taking/posting naked pix. haven't we seen enough butts/boobs/privates now to get the idea? its getting boring.
ReplyDeleteIt's like the drug issue. One can assign blame to the manufacturers and distributers, but as long as you have customers, you'll have drugs. Same with this obsession with celebrity -- case in point, we're all on CDAN instead of WSJ right now for some reason, right?
ReplyDeleteI disagree that people in the public eye should just know they're always being watched. Maybe we as society should stop being so obsessed with every little move famous people make in their private lives. (As I sit here reading a gossip site...) When someone is on private property, then it should be illegal for anyone to take pictures or spy. How is this any different from a peeping tom or stalker type? You all would be up in arms about someone peering in their windows, but because they happened to be outside and the person peeping was a paparazzi photog, it's ok? That doesn't make any sense.
ReplyDeletei think kate just grew up a little bit w/ this experience, and realized the scrutiny she'll be under for the rest of her life. i'm betting it broke william's heart (given the horrible way in which he had to learn the very same lesson), and i applaud him for trying to protect her.
ReplyDeletewhatevs, the whole world saw em
ReplyDeleteWow, that was fast. Do the French courts always move that quickly?
ReplyDeleteIf they were really trying to prohibit the sale of these photos they would have ordered them to pay all of the money they've received x three.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with you @Pookie. I haven't really given an ish about the Royals for a few decades. I didn't pay any attention to the royal wedding or Pippa's behind.
ReplyDeleteBut Wills's and Kate's moments of affection captured during the Olympics were endearing. They seemed like a sweet pair and he really appears to adore her. But this invasion of privacy really crossed a line. I feel for Kate a little bit, because this sort of stalking can be frightening and can destroy one's sense of security and self. But I am most concerned for Wills. To see what happened to his mother happen to his wife is maddening and terrifying at once. I'm glad that he's being proactive and vigilant and taking a stand. I support them 100% in this and I hope that they are afforded a certain level of respect, privacy, and decency that should be afforded every human being, even the lowliest criminal in society.
$2600? LOL
ReplyDeleteI wonder if they've not yet heard of that thing called the interwebs. Cuz I hear that once a picture is there, there's no making it go away.
