I don't have any first hand knowledge of some of the abuse that went on in the early days of rock. Was Ike Turner the worst abuser of women in music? Maybe, but I think the person I am going to tell you about right now is way worse. I don't know of any woman who has ever gone out with him longer than a few dates who has not been physically or verbally abused. Hell, you don't even have to go on a date with him to beat you. Just refuse him something like sex even if it is right after you meet and he might beat you. The thing is most women stay with him anyway. Must be for his name and his former fame. Oh he was big. He was A list for sure. Now? Not so much, but he has that A list name. From the time he was young he would abuse women. He would yell and hit. Punching and breaking bones was no big deal for this guy. if you angered him, your body was in jeopardy. As I said before, most of the women he beats just put up with it as long as they can hoping he will change. They do it because they think they can change him or that he will change or that he didn't mean it. They stay because he buys them crazy expensive gifts all the time and some have felt it was the price they needed to pay to stay. They all end up leaving though, but none have called the police. At this point he does not even bother to try and date anyone without having them sign a confidentiality agreement. This way no matter what happens to them they can't speak about it. he has learned his lessons in that regard. It is not like the current women don't know what happened in the past. They have. They know that they face a chance of a beating that that will make Rihanna's a cake walk, yet they keep coming.
I wanna say Axel Rose, but Erin Everly file charges against him (I think).
ReplyDeleteAxl Rose.
ReplyDeleteAxl Rose
ReplyDeleteAxl Rose?
ReplyDeleteAxl rose? He came to mind despite him being my teen idol. Eeek!
ReplyDeleteExactly. I made a birthday cake in his honor when I was 12. (though even then I knew well enough to favor Slash..,)
DeleteAxl Rose. This was on yahoo yesterday:
ReplyDeletehttp://music.yahoo.com/blogs/awards/flashback-1989-where-axl-rose-sweet-child-o-165238392.html
I'd think breaking the law would trump any confidentiality agreement.
ReplyDeleteWhat a POS.
Axl Rose
ReplyDeleteI was thinking Axl too. I thought there were rumors of abuse when he was married to Stephanie Seymour.
ReplyDeleteThat guy from Guns and Roses. Read a story about him yesterday about "Sweet Child O Mine".
ReplyDeleteWhat about Tommy Lee?
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteI'll never forget what Axl said when he got in trouble for beating Stephanie Seymour. He said he was punishing her for something she did to him in a past life. Not kidding
ReplyDeleteOnly Axl Rose is paraoid enough to have girls sign an NDA before they go out with him. He is classic bipolar. A safe guess w/b him.
ReplyDeleteI don't think he and Stephanie Seymour actually got married. I m/b wrong about that, though.
If this is Axl, I would like to beat the shit out of him. Not just for abusing women. Also for being such an egotistical asshole that he ruined a great band.
ReplyDeleteAmen to that one.
DeleteYuck... His Wiki page is just depressing. He is clearly a very damaged man. Glad he never had kids (that we know of).
ReplyDeleteJackson Browne is a known abuser, too. Don't know if he is A- list though.
ReplyDeleteThe first person I thought of was Tommy Lee.
ReplyDeleteSometime in the last couple of years, G&R's former drummer, the one who was on Celebrity Rehab, was on Howard Stern's show. He mentioned that Axl is big on using confidentiality agreements, that it is just about impossible to approach him and have a normal, casual conversation.
ReplyDeleteI was just reading about Erin Everly on yahoo (they had a where are they now or something on her) and this sounds exactly like what I just read about her and axl
ReplyDeleteCharle Sheen
ReplyDeleteWell it makes sense since it was revealed that Axl is on the small size so he has to overcompensate by beating up on defenseless women
ReplyDeleteUgh this has to be axl rose. I hope he never did this to lana
ReplyDeleteThe Phil Spector of my generation: Axl Rose.
ReplyDeleteyou guys are good! Def Axl
ReplyDeleteClearly Axl is a great guess. But just for kicks, the part "his name or former name" reminded me of Prince.
ReplyDeleteThe only reason I was thinking no to Tommy Lee is that he was with two high profile women, Heather Locklear & Pam Anderson, who made their own money. They wouldn't need him to buy them gifts. Axl has red flag too. I don't know that I've ever heard about Tommy in those situations. At least we know the scumbag will be revealed! And note to self: never enter into a relationship where you have to sign a non-disclosure agreement.
ReplyDeleteHere's a link to a People article in 1994 where Erin Everly details Axl's abuse: Bye Bye Love
ReplyDeleteWouldn't the part about never calling the cops rule out Axl? My guess is Lindsey Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac.
ReplyDeleteWTF? A confidentiality agreement supersedes the law? That doesn't make any sense. I cannot believe that.
ReplyDeleteRick James for the motherf*ckin' win!
ReplyDeleteI'd say no to Tommy Lee. He's a boozer and philanderer but he seems pretty mellow overall. Granted I may not have heard some stuff about him, but that's the impression I have with what I do know.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I was on the Axl train about halfway through.
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteCould be jimmy page, he's into bdsm or something like that, no?
so is lana del ray still with axl?
ReplyDeletelets hope not.
Oh Lisa, no, not Prince!
ReplyDeleteso the prince guess is not a bad guess.. what does Enty mean when he says " The thing is most women stay with him anyway. Must be for his name and his former fame"
ReplyDeleteAxl Rose doesnt have a 'former name' - he's always been Axl
Fame, nOt name
DeleteIt's likely Axl.
ReplyDeleteIf Enty was serious about this being from the early days of rock and roll, this is Chuck Berry all the way. Nasty piece of work who has always treated women horribly, and didn't change even in his old age. It's probably Axl though, in which case 'B list' is a joke, right?
ReplyDeleteI also thought Jackson Browne, who was huge in his day. Supposedly he deflowered half the virgins in Southern California. The actress Daryl Hannah was one of his victims.
ReplyDeleteJohn Lennon was also abusive to women, including both of his wives. He hit his sons as well, according to Julian's and Sean's own accounts. But John is dead and this abuser is alive.
Yeah. What everyone else said.
ReplyDeleteIs Jerry Lee Lewis still alive? One of his wives died under mysterious circumstances.
ReplyDeleteSad to say, this could be about a lot of people.
Axl Rose has spoken of the abuse/sexual abuse he sufered as a child. that dose things to a person.
ReplyDeleteJerry Lee Lewis?
ReplyDeleteAxl Rose is a gross scumbag, but even now you can say I blanked Axl Rose and people would know that name. So there's the "Must be for his name and his former fame".
ReplyDeleteIf this is Axl Rose, then understand he is deeply homophobic and needs to prove his manhood. Axl is gay and cannot face it.
ReplyDeleteDidn't Tommy Lee beat up Pamela Anderson? That said, Axl is a way better guess.
ReplyDeleteVince Neil.

ReplyDeleteSeymour and Everly both sued Rose and documented the abuse. Adler, GNR's former drummer, has also claimed he saw Rose throw a woman down a flight of stairs once for refusing to have sex with him.
ReplyDeleteKnew someone who was about to go on the road with him...Dodged that bullet! And yeah, I mean Axl.
ReplyDeleteHow could you keep working with a man who had thrown a woman down a flight of stairs?! Why didn't he call the police for God's sake!
ReplyDeleteHe didn't. Adler had left the band by that point. He also had a ruinous drug habit, which is perhaps why he did not call the police.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteUmm, he hasn't always had that name, unless you honestly think his birth certificate says AXL. lol. His birth name is William.
ReplyDeleteMy first thought was Rick Springfield but you guys are way better at this than me.
ReplyDeleteHere's a People article detailing more abuse a incidents with Axl re: Everly and Seymour. The stair incident is mentioned
ReplyDeletehttp://www.people.com/people/archive/article/0,,20103471,00.html
Nobody said anything about a former name, it says former FAME!
ReplyDeleteThat's an easy one.
ReplyDeleteBob Dylan.
Former A list, with a still A list name.
Was nasty towards Joan Baez during the UK tour of 1965.
Steven Tyler ("Crazy" "Walk" "A" List) or David Lee Roth
ReplyDeleteAxl does have a former name, he was born William Bailey. he changed his name before he became famous.
ReplyDeleteI love me some Axl Rose... have ever since I was 13. I still have a full size Axl tapestry I hung up for halloween a couple of years ago. I still watch my old GnR videos when I get sh*t faced, and try to dance with my invisible microphone stand like Axl. I'd love to see the show in Vegas, but refuse to pay all that money to go there only to be let down when he throws a tantrum and won't go on stage.
ReplyDeleteI really really hope this isn't 'current' Axl...I know he was a dick in the past. Hopefully this is someone else.
Probably Axl and if Phil Spector wasn't in jail I would've guessed him first.
ReplyDeleteReading the article on Yahoo yesterday gave me the revelation that I'm now 2 degrees of separation from Axl & GNR. I am friends with Erin Everly's cousin.
Fame people, fame!
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't matter what Axl's real name was. lol
Although he seems like a good guess, it also seems his temper and abuse f women is well documented
Perhaps we are looking in the wrong direction and this is someone who is/seems lessunlukely.
I would think breaking the law would trump a confidentiality agreement anyway.
I thought of Richie Sambora for this... Not sure why. Was he A list?
ReplyDeleteI thought of Richie Sambora for this... Not sure why. Was he A list?
ReplyDeleteSorry that shouldn't be there twice
ReplyDeleteNikki Sixx from Motley Crue.
ReplyDeleteI thought Ronnie Wood (Rolling Stones). Didn't he beat up the 20-something girl he was dating a couple of years ago?
ReplyDeleteEdit: looked it up, he did beat her pretty badly. However, there are no other reports of him beating women.
About Axl Rose; very good guess, I remember a story of him dating a woman and he forced her to use the cat litterbox :O
All part of his psychological abuse tactics...
Thought of other rockers, for example Rolling Stones' other members, but they all appeared to be strung out most of the time, they couldn't even lift their arm to beat someone ;)
Jimi Hendrix is a known woman beater too, but the blind says the man is still alive as far as I understand. :/
ReplyDeleteSo guess I'm on the AxlRose train.
Not Nikki Sixx or Tommy Lee. They are womanizers, but not abusers, I can tell you from experience.
ReplyDeleteI can say with no doubt that it's either Axl Rose or Vince Neil. Leaning more towards Vince, he is an utter scumbag.
maybe not Nikki Sixx but Tommy Lee doesn't get the same pass. He was convicted of battering Pamela. I don't think he is a serial woman beater but he is no angel either.
ReplyDeleteAgree with everyone else has to be Axl Rose or one of the Rolling Stones.
Lesson learned from this thread: Musicians are great for crushing on, but never ever date one.
ReplyDeleteI think this is definitely Axl. Three of his ex- girlfriends/wife came forward to say he physically abused them. Two filed law suits and won!
ReplyDeleteIDK why, but Mick jagger came to mind as I read this, But whoever said Prince(sorry to lazy to scoll up), may be on to something. Purple Rain showed his dad forever beating his mother and I remember something about him and his ex-wife, like she left him over abuse, not sure though....
ReplyDeleteMy first thought was Prince.
ReplyDeleteI would be very surprised if this were Tommy Lee, he seems like such a gentle soul.
ReplyDeleteAxl, but uh, can he even get it up anymore?
ReplyDeleteMaybe with a splint.
@g.Strathmore I was also thinking Rick James. I mean, those stories would almost be impossible to top.
ReplyDeleteI've had a difficult time reconciling his music with some of the facts...
He's passed, though of course, not sure if that matters. He recorded so many different kinds of music too- pop, dance, funk, but many definitely have a rock component...
Confidentiality agreement or not...wtf is wrong with these women that they don't call the cops?! Oh man, that disturbs me. :/
ReplyDeleteIt's totally Axl, and it'll be revealed because it already has been! As everyone mentioned already, the article is all over Yahoo. So, the reveal isn't really a reveal, it's more of a reprint of the article.
ReplyDeleteThis is 100% Axl, it's not really a blind when everyone already knows about it.
ReplyDeleteA CDA agreement in no way prohibits a woman from going to the cops and filing charges against Axl for beating them. What it does prohibit them from doing is going to People magazine and telling the world how Axl beat them. For far too many reasons to be detailed here, most women in that situation find it far easier to to the second than the first.
He sure knows how to sling the bullshit. When I was young I used to hear and believe Stephanie was the one who beat him up. Now I am an adult, I see it how it really was...
ReplyDeleteNikki Sixx did beat and abuse his wife Donna Erico. He was arrested for spousal abuse. It wasn't a one-time thing.
ReplyDelete@Tuxedo Cat, I forgot Rick James died. In the nineties I went to a summer music festival where Rick James and Teena Marie performed. You could tell that Teena Marie LOATHED him (even though she apparently took care of his son). Not only that, he had the gall to try to kiss her while they were singing a duet. My sister said she should have slapped him right there on stage.
ReplyDeleteI hope this isn't Prince cause it would break my purple heart. To be different- David Lee Roth.
ReplyDeleteTotally read like Axl Rose. Asshole
ReplyDeleteMan, the Prince guess is excellent. I don't know why he fits, he just does.
ReplyDeleteAxl's out of the closet (ha ha) as an abuser, so this doesn't fit. Keith Richards? Mick Jagger? I don't know enough about these dude's private li,ves to make a good guess. I love reading you guys make yours. Awesome.
Hmmm. I still have questions about the confidentially agreement. Does this really prevent a victim from speaking about a crime that happened to them? It almost seems like a free pass for an abuser to commit the same crime again because the next person wouldn't know about his abuse (victim's word against his - easy to paint the victim as a crazy, hurt ex-girlfriend).
ReplyDeleteI am going for Axl Rose.
ReplyDeleteBut if it is not Axl, I know for a fact Ronnie Wood has had rumors since the 70s of being an abusive drunk asshole.
My first thought was Billy Idol for some reason.
ReplyDeleteRod Stewart
ReplyDeleteCome on NYE reveal!
ReplyDeleteRod Stewart
ReplyDeleteThe Chuck Berry guess reminded me of something we watched about musicians and I want to say IRS trouble, or maybe unpaid storage lockers? I watch too much TV. Anyway, Chuck Berry had hidden a camera in the women's restroom (I think it was even the toilet) at a Waffle House-esque restaurant. He had hundreds of tapes of women using the bathroom. I was so creeped out when I saw that.
ReplyDeleteAlso, my batshit crazy mother-in-law slept with Jackson Browne after she ran off to CA in the late 70s. She spent three years there "making pottery" (read: doing peyote). Lost her house in a mudslide, moved back to NJ, and had my wonderful hubby not long after. Sometimes I tease him about whether JB could be his "real" dad. :)
The probably answer to the blind is no doubt Axl Rose, but what's really sad is that there are so many other potential nominees, living and dead, as well... *sigh*
ReplyDelete@Cornbread, whoa.
ReplyDeleteAxl's real last name is not even "Rose." I forgot what it was, but everyone would ask me about him in high school. I hated the thought that we shared the same last name.
ReplyDelete@g.strathmore, at least Chuck Berry and my MIL never ran into each other... ;) She has some wild tales.
ReplyDeletePrince is 5'2 and 100 pounds. He couldn't beat up McKayla Maroney.
ReplyDeleteI thought Tommy, too, but Heather stayed with him 6 years, and I can't see her tolerating that kind of violence for 6 years.
@Andy agree about Prince. He also needs a new hip (not joking--he does!) also would never call Prince RnR.
DeleteCornbread. Shit. Your post is INSANITY. Love it. Your MIL must be a hoot.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely Axl. And for the record Stephanie Seymour is my most fave model of the 90s (Along with Linda Evangelista, of course!)
That is exactly what was thinking, Robin! And Cornbread? Awesome story! (and OT, but team Christy Turlington all the way!)
ReplyDeleteJackson Browne was my first 'celeb' crush! LOVE him! Did she ever say if he was awesome or not?! Even though he beat Darryl Hannah, or whatever that was, he was still the hottest!! Ironically, Christy Turlington is married to my other all time favorite, Ed Burns! LOVE me some Burns.
ReplyDeleteIt's true about Prince needing a hip replacement. Doctors think it's from all the years of dancing in high heels.
ReplyDeleteJackson Brown is a beater though. He beat Daryl Hannah pretty badly. She ran off to JFK jr.
i read it thinking Brian Adams......not sure why
ReplyDeleteMy friend worked for Victoria's Secret Catalog back in the Axl/Stephanie days and he said that it would take hours to airbrush all of her track marks and bruises out. Axl used to beat the crap out of her. It was really sad and tragic he said, because there was nothing his team could do about it.
ReplyDeleteCannot be Tommy Lee since he did jail time for beating Pamela.
ReplyDelete
