The Voice Beats X Factor
Simon Cowell's nightmare came true. The Voice crushed X Factor. 10.5M to 8.5M viewers. The really sad part for Simon other than the fact his show is probably not long for this world at least at this price point is that even with all the buzz and all the hype, the show's ratings were down 32% compared to last year and the ratings from last year were nothing to really write home about considering what was expected. To lose like that in your first episode shows what is going to likely happen as the season wears on and your numbers shrink. I guess the tall one from the Kardashian family is a yes for sure to try and get whatever ratings they can. Might as well make it a full on selling your soul to the devil.
I wonder if the numbers would have been any different if The Voice had not done their Wednesday show.

ReplyDeleteIt's Xtina vs Britney all over again. I am happy to see Simon's ego taken down a peg.

ReplyDeleteIlluminat owns both shows so it really doesn't matter. Smh
ReplyDeleteDon't watch either so meh!
ReplyDeleteSimon Cowell doesn't have a soul to sell to the devil. He will entice a star struck hopeful to engage in the suggested transaction.
ReplyDeleteI watched xfactor to see demi. If she wasn't on I probably wouldn't watch. If I see one more kid singing like they are on broadway I'll scream
ReplyDeleteThe thing is, total number of viewers are not as important as how a show does in the demo. And the shows tied in the demo.
ReplyDeleteIf you don't believe me, take a loot at Harry's Law, another NBC show. It had the most viewers of any other show on the network but did terribly in the demo. Guess what? It was cancelled.
My point being--this isn't quite as big as people are making it. If the show had failed in the demo, that would have been a bigger problem.
As a viewer, I'm kind of over Simon's mean-boy shtick. With all this anti-bullying stuff, it seems so conflicting to tell a person they sound like they're dying when they've gotten on stage in front of thousands+ people to perform their hearts out.
ReplyDeleteIf Kong is on, I will turn off. Why they think it would be a good idea to bring on someone who is vulgar, baby talks, is already over exposed and, let face it, HATED, is unbeknown to me. Epic fail if they sign her.
ReplyDeleteX Factor is no different than American Idol, it's not fresh or new, same old train wreck. I like the Voice, at least the contestants are judged on their talent and not on their delusions.
ReplyDeleteI watched both this week for the first time. Simon can be really nice, actually. Seems he just doesn't have patience for people wasting time when it's obvious they'll never make it. Funny, though, since the viewers love the train wrecks.
ReplyDeleteI saw it and Simon actually teared up over one of the girls.
ReplyDeleteHe'll just blame it on The Voice being on the same night. He already said he's got beef with them for doing that.
ReplyDeleteI never usually watch these talent shows but did catch a few minutes of The Voice at the gym the other day.
ReplyDeleteI must say, I liked it! Due in large part I think to CeeLo Green. Something about that guy is just so appealing and likeable!
Te same old Hollywood rule applies to Simon same as all the others: Never leave a hit show. Especially one that pays you major money.
ReplyDeleteI will not watch either.
ReplyDeleteI am so over all the competition shows. never watched many to begin with, but they have been done to death now.
Britney is mildly entertaining but Demi Lovato is super annoying. Anyone she remotely likes, she "LOVES".. Plus is not pretty or even very talented.. How did she end up as a judge??!?!?
ReplyDeleteI don't watch The Voice. Been watching X-Factor again. I only saw one act that really impressed me and that was a male group on Wed night. But there is way too much filler in the show and too little focus on the talent on stage. It's all back-stories and watching people cheer for the judges.
ReplyDeleteMore bad news for next week for X factor. while The Voice is a repeat it It has to contend with the CBS premier of Survivor Philippines.
ReplyDeleteI do not see Demi or Britney back for S3. I also hear that she got in trouble with her recent pics with Wilmer. Because Simon is trying to get a Demi-Niall PR thing going. She is fooling around with that shitbag.
Demi is pretty, but her make up and fashion sense is AWFUL. Stop face painting, and go back to your natural hair color.
ReplyDeleteThere are just way too many of these shows on. I think people are finally getting sick of them at long last. I wish they would all get cancelled and bring back TV the way it was before all this reality shit took over.
ReplyDeleteim pretty sure ratings are down because britney and demi are complete bitches, and people don't want to hear asshole comments from them.
ReplyDeleteGlad that on the roller coaster of life, Cowell's luck is going south. He had too many good years and his head grew too big for this continent. Time for a few good doses of reality to even everything out.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I was getting sick of "The Voice" by the end of last season. Despite the concept, I think the critiques are repetitive and without substance (Christina's expertise just consist of calling performances "pitchy"). I appreciate that they don't tear contestants down, but the critiques are super bland. And I really detest Adam Levine.
ReplyDeleteAs for X-Factor, the judges are stunt casting (Demi Lovato is famous for what? Being in a Jonas Brothers TV movie, and being Selena Gomez's ex-bff? I guess her casting makes sense if the show is aimed at 15 year olds, but I seriously don't know what she does and I'm 21. Some of the contestants have more industry experience than her, just a lower profile. I like her style though. As for Britney, of course I watched out of morbid curiosity to see her). It seems like the show has more diverse performances than Idol or The Voice, but I can't get over how manipulative it is. What they did to Britney's former duet partner was just beyond sick.
I agree with @cricket, enough of the reality shows. I can't even escape to A&E, History, or The Learning Channel (have no idea how Honey Boo Boo is considered "learning") without being barraged by reality this or that. As far as these singing shows go, what "star" have they produced lately. To my knowledge The Voice winners have already been dropped from their label and Scotty Who? It's been done, it's wore out, can we please get back to scripted TV with real actors?
ReplyDeleteI really liked the XFactor and I watched most of both nights. I didn't like the combo of Paula and Nicole but I am pleasantly surprized by how much I like Demi and Brittney as judges. I think this show will get higher ratings as the season goes on.
ReplyDeleteI watched both--liked the Voice a LOT better--better singers, the judges interaction is more entertaining.
ReplyDeleteI watched some of X Factor--the early auditions on it and AI kind of don't do much for me. I do agree the 2 new judges seem like an improvement. The biggest negative for me right now is Simon. For some reason his schtick on this show doesn't do it for me. I liked him on AI--but it wasn't his show and he spoke honestly--but on this show he always has his producer hat on and everything he says seems fake and calculated.
I just don't think Britney Spears is qualified to judge anyone on their singing when she uses auto tune like it is going out of business and lip syncs at her concerts. Demi Lovato is talented, but just doesn't have the seasoned experience like the judges on The Voice. The Voice is popular, because of the camaraderie between the judges/mentors.
ReplyDeleteI saw one clip where Britney told a contestant he was off key! I said out loud, "How would you know? You've been Autotuned forever!" I can see Mariah telling someone he or she is off key, but Brit Brit? No.
ReplyDeletethe market is oversaturated has been for awhile!
ReplyDeleteI watched X factor both nights. I was actually surprised by how much I liked Demi. Unfortunately Britney acts like she's tortured sitting in the chair and all she does is make these horrendous faces. The show focused on too many bad people and very few blew me away. I hope it gets better.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe it's already time for The Voice again, anyway. I feel like we just got over last season + Idol.
ReplyDeleteI did want to watch for Britney but I just don't think I'm ready to jump back into singing competition season.
