Kate Hudson Spent 6 Hours A Day Working Out After Baby Was Born

Well, you have to give Kate Hudson credit for not just saying that it was easy to lose the baby weight or it fell right off or that she never diets. In an interview with Star magazine, Kate says that after her most recent baby was born it took several months of working out 6 hours a day every single day to get her body back to what it was pre-baby. That is a lot of commitment. It is easy to see why the average person has so much trouble losing all the weight they gained. Kate realizes she has it lucky and had nothing else to do but lose weight. She would do cardio for an hour and then a hour of Pilates and would repeat the routine three times a day. Do you know how hard it is to find the energy or will power to go work out once a day? She managed to do that three times a day. That third time she must have wanted to skip every single day. How could you not want to? Plus, you know she was probably starving herself too.

  1. Maybe should have spent that time finding a decent script.

  2. The fear of watching my sister-in-law, who had been built exactly like me, becoming morbidly obese post-baby drove me to work out two hours a day 7 days a week after gaining 65 pounds with my daughter...lost it all and then some in four months. And I'm the laziest person on Earth and hated every second of it. If you're motivated enough (in my case, total fear), you figure out a way to do it.

  3. I can't even imagine doing that kind of a workout with a newborn. I just remember being so tired that I was like, shower or sleep? and totally picking sleep!

  4. Enty, I want some sources for this too. Because if this is true there is no hope for us mere mortals who have to work for a living.

I think I'll have a maple bacon donut for breakfast then.

  5. Yeah, I want some proof too. @dia papaya - got any of those donuts to share?

  6. Doesn't leave much time for baby and her older son does it?

  7. On that note, I'm going to eat a chocolate cheesecake covered apple as big as a basketball for lunch. Cheers!

  8. Kate Hudson gave an interview to Star magazine? Really??

  9. She gained over 60 pounds with the first baby. When she showed up on the set for The Skeleton Key the director hired a trainer because she was too heavy.
So it looks like she learned. Also she wants to keep her baby's daddy happy...
    I do an hour 3 times a week...no wonder I don't look like kate.

  10. If I had to do that much working out I would be a total bitch. 6 hours? Uh uh.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Sounds like she's more concerned with her body image than spending time with her newborn.

  12. If I had to do that much working out I would be a total bitch. 6 hours? Uh uh.

  13. I suggest her results would have been the same had she only worked out 2 hours a day.

Any trainer would tell you 6 hours a day is nuts.

    ReplyDelete
  14. but its not the same for her. she rolls out of bed andwalks down the hall to her own gym. then her instructor comes, then she eats a meal made just for her needs. i have a friend w/ a home gym. when she has extra time she gets on the treadmill or stair master for an hour. there's a tv in her gym and it surround sound. in the time it takes most of us to drive to the gym, park, get inside, check our kids into gym-care and then find an available machine; kate has already worked out for an hour.

  15. Even if I could afford the spare time to work out for 6 hours a day, I'm not sure I would. I do have a treadmill and cable TV in my basement though, and a lot ot workout DVD's. It works for me. I hate going to the gym...

  16. Working mothers don't get to spend all day with their kids. Perhaps her kids are there with her. As Me said above, if it's a home gym, the kids could have a little play area.

I despise exercise but then, my job isn't based on my looks or weight. Hers is.

  17. She had nothing else to do but lose the weight? Ummmm . . . what about spending time with her baby and older son?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Nothing better to do? What about maybe, oh, I don't know, spending time with your newborn?

    ReplyDelete
  19. I'm hoping that a decent exercise routine during pregnancy will save me from feeling the need to workout THAT much (although I'd never be able to).

I understand the pressure to get back in shape, but I have a feeling that will take a backseat for me once our baby arrives. But smart choices during pregnancy will hopefully help. :)

  20. I can't imagine being a mother of two and spending that amount of time working on my body. That is pretty much the entire time the newborn is awake and most of the time the school aged child is awake. Yes, most parents work, but if you have the luxury of being extremely wealthy, that's the choice you make?

    ReplyDelete
  21. That means she wasn't breastfeeding, which according to the literature helps a lot in losing baby weight.

    ReplyDelete
  22. to be fair, newborns sleep a lot in the day and her son is school age, no?

It's totally possible that with her own home-gym and a personal trainer she could work out 6 hrs a day and spend quality time with both kids.

not a fan of her movies, but I admire her will-power!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Please, newborn cld hv been right there, with her getting him whenever she needed to. A newborn is a 24 hr proposition, so idt its not fair to say she missed him being awake. And her older son im sure goes to school. Dont forget, this is her job; getting in shape so she can work. And i highly doubt she gv interview to star, because they make up their shit so dont need any stars to talk to. I bet if read, it wont hv one quite attributable to her, unless its from prev interview. Not a huge fan of hers, but she does work hard to stay in shape. I gots to give her that.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Why is everyone bashing her? Not that she acts too much anymore, but keeping in shape is part of her job. Does anyone really think she'd be getting ANY scripts if she hadn't lost that weight immediately? At least she's being honest about the amount of commitment it took unlike most actresses who make it seem like the weight just magically disappeared.

    ReplyDelete
  25. After she had her first son, she looked "normal" meaning by Hollyweird standards she was chubby.

Maybe she was determined to get back into shape sooner this time?

Personally, I think she looks better now than she ever has. It's not just the weight, she's been dressing very stylish lately. She used to look like she needed a good scrubbing.

  26. You don't have to do 1 hour of cardio. You can do a crossfit style workout at home that will give help you burn calories and only takes 15 minutes.

workout #1 - outside, grab a yoga mat or towel if you don't want to lay on the grass.

Do as many repetitions of this group as you can in 10 or 15 minutes, according to your level of fitness

    1. Walk, jog, or run about 50 yards/meters (say to the 4th house from yours and back or something like that)
    2. Do 15 squats, maintaining correct form
    3. Do 10 crunches, with correct form
    4. Do 5 pushups, with correct form.

Repeat for 10 or 15 minutes as many times as you can, maintaining correct form. Pause to take a breath as necessary. As you improve increase your time up to 20 minutes, and you can add 5 to each exercise (10 pushups, 15 crunches, 20 squats).

To do this indoors, you can do 20 jumping jacks or 1 minute of jump rope in place of running, you can also add burpees into the mix if you know how to do them correctly and your shoulders are strong enough.

Walk a little bit then stretch afterwards to cool down, 10 minutes or so. It's an intense workout, but you can go at your own pace and squeeze a workout in to your day in about 30 minutes. If you want, you can think of other exercises you like to do to substitute in, just try to do 4 things that will work different areas of your body.

  27. Looking good is a massive part of her job. She looks amazing and at least she's being honest about it rather than having secret surgery or pretending that us just the way she is.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Glad she was honest about it! Also, it's completely feasible to run on a treadmill and do Pilates at home with DVD's. She might have had a private instructor, but I would too if I had the $. And I doubt she was neglecting her boys due to working out-working moms are at work x amount of hours a day, and they arent neglecting their kids. IMO, it's not much different.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I loathe Kate Hudson, but I don't get the "not spending time with her kids" bashing. Assuming she wasn't working, she spent 6 hours working out. Most "regular" Moms spend 8 hours at work. What's the big deal?

That said, she's going through alot of trouble to get into to shape for yet another bad rom-com.

  30. Now please!! stop talking about workout programs- u are making my donuts back up, lol

  31. I'm fine with Kate-bashing. I can never get back the time I spent watching My Best Friend's Girl.

    ReplyDelete
  32. @Snoopy - she slept fine, remember she's got nannies, personal chefs, personal trainers, housekeepers, gardeners and drivers.

All she's gotta do is put on some gym clothes, walk over to her home gym (where her personal trainer is waiting for her), work out, and then play with cute clean baby and then nap some.

    Such is the life, eh?

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'm not going to be critical of her regime. While not admirable, it's a necessary evil when you are in the Hollywood spotlight and the pressure is on to look a certain way and tabloids dissect your food baby to bits or post the most unflattering pics they can find of you.

She treated this postpartum period like a job and got it done.

  34. I have a treadmill in the garage with an old CRT TV and DVD player and I use it about 40 minutes five days a week and I'm not quite as slim as Kate. I saw these pics in Daily Mail about a week ago and she looked really beautiful. I don't watch Glee but those pics where she's rehearsing and the muscle on the back of her thighs was pretty impressive. I don't love or hate her, I just look at her pics and think maybe the treadmill doesn't do everything so just a bit more, maybe yoga or something.

  35. Don't understand all the judgment regarding her spending six hours a day away from her kids, if that's even true - I have a job that requires me to be out of the house nine hours a day, and that doesn't make me less of a caring parent than someone whose financial situation allows one parent to stay home. Women are too f-ing hard on other women about this. If my husband made more, yeah, I'd stay home - but we're a family that requires two incomes. I assume most are.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Don't be so damn bitchy. If she actually was working out that much it equates to burning about 3500 calories a day in addition to her resting metabolic rate which is probably around 2000 calories. There was no need for her to starve herself and she probably ate 1800 calories a day which means she could have lost about 7.5 pounds a week.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I'm nearing 60 pounds that I've lost. It hasn't taken me ANY extra time because I don't work out bc honestly I have a bad leg that I don't like to use. All I did was eliminate processed foods. I wake up to a green smoothie, later raw salad, then meat bc I'm allergic to beans nuts and eggs, maybe more salad after. I never felt better in my life. Everyone should work out of course but until I get my operation I avoid it unless its my physical therapy exercises. I just wanted people to know that long workouts are not the only way to lose weight and actually, a good diet is where your health begins.

  38. God I always hit send before I finish. Even in emails lol. I was thinking, IF Kate ignored her baby for 6 hours (which there's no proof of) it would sound like post partum maybe? But she does have a job requiring her to be in good shape and HOLY CRAP my jaw hit the floor at this gorgeous pic of her!

  39. Love that she is a normal person in gaining weight during pregnancy, and then chooses to lose it by working out, and not having a mommy-tuck instead.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I would be bored six hours a day of working out. Doesn't matter how many DVDs I had.

I remember her first husband didn't want to have another kid because of how big Kate got with her first one. I wonder if that traumatized her.

    ReplyDelete
  41. bad actress

she is so out of touch with reality.....wow

again with so much staff you can work out all you want

    good for her--i guess?

    ReplyDelete
  42. If you work out correctly with the right posture and rotate your workouts, there's no need to do 6 hours a day.

    ReplyDelete
  43. There is no need to gain 60 or 70 lbs during pregnancy. If you gain 25 or 30 lbs ( per the most recent recommendations), there is no need to torture yourself like this. I don't think she's a hero for working out like mad to lose the excessive amount of weight she should never have gained in the first place. Gaining too much weight puts your child at risk.

  44. She looks really fab in the Ann Taylor ads. When I see them, I think, "Wow. Maybe I should buy Ann Taylor clothes. They're kinda cute." Then, I go into Ann Taylor, and pretty much NEVER buy any of their stuff.

Oh, how I love these judgmental post-pregnancy posts. Everybody is different. Some of us lose weight; some don't. Some breastfeed; some don't. Some work; some don't. Really. Who gives a shit? This is as tedious as the fucking political posts.

Personally, I run around like such a lunatic in the effort to be the perfect mom, wife, housekeeper and piano teacher, that I'm too exhausted to even push play on my remote to get the exercise DVD to work.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I'm not sure I believe it. I really like Kate but heck, I didn't even recognize her in any of her recent pics! hard to believe she didn't have some help... especially in Hollywood.

    ReplyDelete
  46. a) thank goodness for an actress actually saying that losing weight was hard work and she had to work her a$$ off [i am looking at you Blake Lively..]
    b) her work depends on her looking good.. it's her responsibility to keep in shape
    c) geez - stop bashing her for goodnesssake!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Glad she's St least being honest about what it took to lose the weight. These celebs make regular moms feel so defeated when we can't lose the weight as quickly

    ReplyDelete
  48. I'm trying hard not to be judgmental, and failing miserably.I never let myself gain more than the desirable amount during my pregnancies, just by eating sensibly and keeping fit but not being stupid about it.I really enjoyed that time bonding with my babies, and would hate to have missed out on it for an exercise regime.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Kate looks absolutely stunning in this photo. I always thought she had beautiful eyes.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I've just finished writing up my plans for exercise once I pop (10 more weeks!) and it's no where near 6 hours a day.

Having said that, I'm ok with it taking a year to come off, and my job doesn't depend on it.

Let's stop bashing her - oh noes, she worked out really hard to lose the baby weight quickly! There are a hundred MUCH worse ways she could have lost it, so I reckon good on her for a) doing it, and b) not lying about it.

    ReplyDelete
  51. She had to work out that much because she only did Pilates and cardio, which is barely anything. If she'd eaten a healthy diet and lifted some weights she'd only have needed to do 1.5-2 hours a day, 5x a week.they don't have to be heavy weights, just enough to add a little resistance.

  53. Her job depends on her looks so she treated her looks like a job and got it done! But I'm sad because I'm hypothryoid and BOTH exercise and diet haven't made a dent in my weight. Doctor thinks I have a parasite in my intestine (which means giving a stool sample...yuck!) or a food allergy. I WISH all I needed to do was eat right and exercise. I gained 35 lbs with stress and have barely managed 15-18 lbs off. And that's with two different levels of physician prescribed diet pills and a 3 week intensive liver cleanse. FML.

  54. who's the person here who can't understand why most of us can't stand this woman?

Would have been nice if she would have spent those 6 hrs a day with her CHILDREN.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I love her for being so refreshingly honest and straighforward
If you want to look like her, drop dead gorgeous after a couple of months, be prepared to suffer :P
am soooo tired of the "the weight went away naturally with breastfeeding" BS the the victoria secret ladies &co like to say.

6 hours is the hell of a lot, but most of us spend more than that in our jobs so she still gets a higher chance of being with her kids than most of us poors.

  56. @parissucksliterally - i guess that would be me? i do not understand the need for people to pass judgement on how others manage their motherhood, their marriage, their household. i am not referring necessarily to you, @parissucksliteraly, but since you asked, i am addressing my comments to you. wanna hate her cause she makes shitty movies? cause she is rich and skinny? be my guest. but can we just stop this loop of women being hard on other women for no reason [at least no facts that we can speak of] and also this need to be the ones who are right?
who died and made you all God? geez.. as far as you know she spends more times with her kids than we do - or not. but that's something we'll never know and hardly enough info to pass judgement.
if we need to resort to crap on other people lives to feel better about our own, i feel sorry for all of us.
and yes, i know this is a gossip site and i welcome gossip and a little snark.. but for goodness sake, can we lay off the bashing? mmm must be the summer heat? bah! don't know :)

  57. 1 - breastfeeding to lose weight. Whatever. That is such a stupid, dumb, myth. I breastfed... I didn't lose weight faster.

2 - Good for her. She works in an industry where her body is everything. We've seen that as comments fly by everywhere when an actress is 'too fat' or 'hasn't lost the weight'. I wish I had 6 hrs to workout but I don't. So I'm a size 10/12 and thankfully with a man who loves me as I am.

Sure - it doesn't work for us in most of our lives. It doesn't say when she was doing these workouts. Maybe she got up before the baby. Maybe she did them after the baby was asleep. Taking a nap? Doesn't mean she's a bad parent.

  58. We joined a fitness center last year. I do an aquatics class 1 hour/3X a week. There are women who show up there first thing in the morning and stay the entire day going from yoga to spin to zumba to pilates to whatever else....I actually heard one complaining that she had to go food shopping for her kids, which she resented because it cut into her workout time.
I should add most of these women look like complete shit. They work off all f their body fat and are just bones and sinewy limbs. I can't believe they think they look good.
Kate Hudson looks great. She doesn't look like she is working that hard, just enough to get her shape back and then some.

    ReplyDelete
  59. wow...must be nice having all that time on her hands. Most mom's would be lucky if they could get a 30 min workout in while their child naps.

    ReplyDelete
  60. It says she does her workout 3x a day...it doesn't say 6 hrs straight. Could be 2 hrs in the morning, 2 hrs in the afternoon and 2 hrs in the evening...

  61. I can't fathom for working out longer than maybe 2 hours a day. But she has the means to have childcare and doesn't have a regular job like most people. At least she was honest about it, unlike other celebrities?

I saw another set of photos from this event and thought she looked stunning. That dress is gorg.
