Judy Blume Has Breast Cancer
One of the greatest authors to ever walk the planet, Judy Blume announced on her blog that she has breast cancer. She stated that she had planned on spending much of the summer traveling in Italy, but when she received the news, the 74 year old had to cancel her plans. Two months ago she had a mastectomy and that she does not need chemo which is great and that she only spent one night in the hospital.
I love her! Rest up lady and get back to traveling. :)
ReplyDeleteBe well soon.
ReplyDeleteDoes this mean Enty is a girl? I don't know any boys who would read her books.. ;)
ReplyDeleteWell said.
DeleteI'm a boy and read her books.
DeleteGet well Judy, and thanks for all your fantastic books!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like they caught this really early, which is great. I LOVED her books growing up and actually feel a desire to re-read them. I bet they're totally fun as an adult (or as close to one as I'll ever come).
ReplyDeleteJudy Blue also wrote Tales of The Fourth Grade Nothing and Superfudge. Those books are great for boys :)
ReplyDeleteJudy Blume = F. Scott Fitzgerald = William Shakespeare = Ernest Hemingway = WTF?
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear she's doing well. Love her!
ReplyDeleteI remember my first experience with Judy Blume -- I had started yet another new school and found myself in an unfamiliar library surrounded by new kids, then the librarian started reading the most magical story ever that captured all of my latency aged anxiety and frustration: "Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing." A wonderful memory!
ReplyDeleteHer books remind me of my youth. I still a copy of Are You There God its me Margaret from 6th grade which was ages ago. I hope she can overcome this and have a speedy recovery
ReplyDeleteThis also just made me think of the Beverly Cleary books, and The Babysitters Club. Hooray for nostalgia!
ReplyDelete@Amber
ReplyDeleteThe Ramona books and Amelia Bedelia!
Circle Ramona, Cross out Susan
Great memories for sure
And Yea for Ms Blume and I wish her continued health and good travels
Sunny - YES! And remember Really Rosie? I recently added the soundtrack to my spotify. haha
ReplyDelete@Aly--I get what you're saying, but Judy Blume is one of the few authors who has gotten millions and millions of children reading for fun and enjoyment, not because they have to for school, and doing so with relevant topics and not just trash lit. How many authors can say the same?
ReplyDeleteWith that said, Just As Long As We're Together pretty much changed my life. :)
ReplyDeleteJesus Christ, was this post written by a 12 year old? Judy Blume is not one of the "greatest authors to ever walk the planet." She is a fine writer, and one of the most influential authors of our time but lets ease up on the hyperbole. The only way she should get that introduction is if she is being introduced by Ron Burgundy.
ReplyDeleteThat being said I wish her a full and speedy recovery.
Ha!
DeleteWishing Ms. Blume a full recovery.
Glad she's going to be o.K...
ReplyDeleteGood news! :)Loved her books when I was a kid-and the Ramona books!
ReplyDeleteIf they make a movie about her, Jessica Lange should definitely play her!
ReplyDelete@DontRainOnMyPrada - Exactly!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely thought the same thing as @Don'tRainonmyPrada, this is more proof that Enty is a girl. I can't think of many guys who would know Judy Blume or her titles off the top of their head.
ReplyDeleteI know the commenters are getting guess Enty fatigue, but I think she's British, perhaps an ex-publicist and married to someone who still works in the industry. I think she may have had a career working in LA, got married and now has children at home, and blogs from home. The use of British tabloids, the angles of the stories being so pro female (in a good way), and the age (guessed by who Enty is a fan of from the late 80's), leads me to guess this.
flip, interesting theory.
ReplyDeleteI wish her a speedy recovery and many miles to go.
ReplyDeleteGodspeed, ms. blume.
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine my childhood without Judy Blume, and it was her books that drew me to the library every single week growing up. Reading her books made me feel more normal about myself, made me laugh, made me understand boys (Then Again Maybe I Won't, anyone?), read about first love (Forever!) and so many more memories. Count me in as someone who wishes her a speedy recovery and continued health
ReplyDeleteShe's written some great adult novels as well (Summer Sisters, Smart Woman, Wifey).
ReplyDeletetell you what, next time Enty and I meet up for a burger, I'll take a peen shot next to a fucking USA today.
ReplyDeleteQuite frankly the "Enty MUST be a woman because______!" is fucking insulting to men.
Ugh, lit snobs. You don't have to write 800 page tomes on lofty subjects to be a great author. And we are all allowed some hyperbole when we're talking about things we loved when we were kids.
ReplyDeleteI remember the series that magically turned me from someone who was bored by reading into someone who LIVED for their next batch of books from the library. No, they weren't written by a "great" writer. This was someone a few notches below Ms. Blume, talent-wise, but nevertheless, I will be grateful my whole life that she existed and she wrote those books. I can't imagine what my life would look like without her.
So, basically, fuck off for bashing someone else's taste in books. And I'll second the point about how insulting the whole "Enty MUST be a woman because _____" thing is while I'm at it. Fuck off times two.
Jax- you are gold my dear. :)
ReplyDeleteYou know we call ourselves english, welsh or scottish here right? Enty does not write like a " brit" fyi
ReplyDeletePs judy saved my pre pubesence! Would have been lost without her books. Get well soon! Xxx
ReplyDeleteOK I'm just now getting the Judy Blume joke from Easy A.
ReplyDeleteI'm happy that she caught this early and is going to recover from this.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, to call Judy Blune one of the greatest authors of all time is like calling Jatherine Heigel once of the greatest actresses of all time. It's kind of insulting to everyone else in the craft. This is not to say that her works are not beloved by generations of their target market - prepubescent teen girls - just that she doesn't even approach the GOAT mantle.
I wish her all the best. I have been meaning to re-read her books, too, Amber.
ReplyDeleteI love love loved her books as a kid. I hope she stays well.
ReplyDeleteEnty grew up in Texas. He's mentioned this several times.
ReplyDeleteI had his name somewhere based on the random clues that people cobbled together, but that was several years ago. New commenters can have all the fun this time around. Good luck.
Jax, what do I have to do to get you to not do that. I don't want to see it.
ReplyDeleteI grew up reading Judy Blume and have read some of her adult fiction as well. I hope she caught it early enough and recovers quickly.
Enty as a British woman made me lol. Jesus. Almost as funny as when someone posted as a CDAN Moderator a few times.
ReplyDeleteThe Ramona books were written by Beverly Cleary, not Judy Blume. But I do love me some Judy Blume. She had some great bitchy characters in her stories (e.g., Nancy from Are you There, God, Caitlyn from Summer Sisters).
ReplyDeleteI love her so much. I am so glad she'll be okay. Also, I'm with those who said she's not one of the greatest authors. Fuck off.
ReplyDeleteUgh, I meant I'm with those that REPLIED to those that.said she's not one of the greatest.
ReplyDeleteRalph!
ReplyDeleteGreatest does not mean always mean lofty and cerebral. It can also mean that an author defines and/or transcends their genre and/or generation. Look at Dr Seuss.
ReplyDeleteJudy Blume has done that and more.
I hope she recovers swiftly.
OT -- Poehler Arnett split? Anybody else seen/read/heard this? I think there have been rumors?
ReplyDeleteSorry, still catching up on comments. Y'all commented on this in another post. But this is sad. To me.
ReplyDeleteFarley Drexel Hatcher forever.
ReplyDeleteShe was one of my favorite childhood authors. :(
ReplyDeleteI hope she recovers! Stay well, Ms. Blume!
