John Ingle Has Died

John Ingle, who played the ruthless patriarch Edward Quartermaine for two decades on daytime soap opera "General Hospital," has died. He was 84. He filmed his last episode on August 24th. I know the show will go on, but he was such a big part of the glue that kept everything together for so long. He was a high school teacher before becoming an actor and his student included David Schwimmer, Swoosie Kurtz, Julie Kavner, Albert Brooks, Nicolas Cage and some others.

  3. Actually, he was the second Edward. He replaced another actor, whom I think passed or became too ill to work.

And considering his students, no wonder he got the acting bug.

    RIP

  4. Edward was one of my favorite characters on GH and John Ingle seemed like a really nice man.

I hope GH finally lets the character of Edward die.

  5. This seriously bummed me out, but I was prepared for it. His last scene on the show was too precious for words and a real gift to fans. Very well done.

David Lewis was the ultimate ruthless Mr. Q but John Ingle made him more compassionate.

    RIP

The original Edward Quartermaine, David Lewis, passed away in 2000 also at the age of 84. Ingle was more of a scamp than ruthless, but the relationship between him and his wife Lila softened. When Anna Lee's Lila died on the show, it allowed for a somewhat nicer Edward to come out.

    RIP.

  13. RIP, Mr. Ingle. Both you and Edward Quartermaine will be greatly missed. I never thought there would or should be another after David Lewis died, but you rocked it.

  16. I never could get used to him as Edward, but by the time he started on the show, I had all but lost interest anyway. That was really 20 years ago? Wow. I'm starting to feel my own mortality. :/
