  6. I liked what they did on TMZ;
    http://www.tmz.com/2012/09/01/clint-eastwood-talking-to-inanimate-objects

"Cint Eastwood talking to a sneaky gnome"

    *giggle* ;D

OT but when I was a kid we used to use one of those large wire spools as end tables (from the link). My brothers would always lift up the tablecloth and lose his action figures in the holes in the center. That thing was the untimely death of so many toys lol.

  7. Crap, is this the last post for today? Bummer!!!

  8. I saw the video of Clint at the RNC, and I was astounded. Pick your own politics, but he looked and acted demented. I mean, to the point where several political sites are suggesting it was an act of sabotage against Romney.

He was just - off. You know, when one of your elderly relatives passes into the dementia zone? You've seen the signs but you're in denial and then they do something totally insane and the whole family goes, "We need to talk about Great-Uncle Clint."

  9. P.S. I should have added that I respect Eastwood's work. He's had one of the great careers in Hollywood. I was sad to see him in that condition.

@Jamie 2: I agree. As a Conservative and also just as a human being I was wincing in discomfort throughout Eastwood's speech and was incredibly nervous for him. Each stammering pause on his part made me think he was about to lose his train of thought. I wouldn't go so far as to label it subtle sabotage, but it was weird as shit. And it did not help the Conservative cause one little bit...

  11. They only had Clint Eastwood because Hitler and Satan were unavailable...

  12. I watched a bit of Clint's speech at the RNC. it was cringe worthy! One of those awkward moments when you feel embarrassed for someone.

  13. @Thomas: Maybe I should clarify that I always vote D for President. Ind on the local stuff. I was just concerned about Eastwood. That was painful to watch from any perspective.

Without gloating, he did the RNC no favors and I can't imagine why he was on that stage without his remarks being vetted before.

  14. Isn't it interesting that they chose a celeb speaker who is well known to have forced his girlfriend to have an abortion.

I don't think Clint Eastwood did that bad. I didn't watch any of the republican convention, but with all of the fallout, I just watched it on youtube. He's not a great orator, but polished rhetoric can be overdone and insincere. There were a few funny moments. Plus he is old. He's a legend and would elevate any gathering on his iconic status alone. At his age, almost anyone would have problems giving a flawless, live performance. Regardless of one's political ideology, Eastwood's performance didn't deserve all the negative fallout.

As for Eastwood damaging Romney's chances, if that is the case, shame on the voters. Decisions should be based on individual intellect not bandwagon mentality. If people don't vote their own conscience, they might as well jump off that proverbial cliff our parents told us about in response to our excuse: "everyone else is doing it." As for vonder's comment, the sandbox doesn't need to be soiled by hate speech. Find another blog to sling mud.If you sift through last week's racist blind, you'll see most people here enjoy gossipy snark and stimulating discourse but not angry rants.

  18. I read that he did have a prepared speech but threw it out at the last minute and went extemporaneous on everybody's asses.

I think a lot of eightysomething celebrities - or non-celebs, for that matter - wouldn't fare too well speaking off the cuff at a national convention. But, wow, poor decision to let him have the floor. Really, really poor....

  19. Good one Sherry. I won't support any candidate no matter the party who doesn't protect a woman's right to choose.

  20. It was awful and sad - I could only watch about a half minute. I don't want to remember him like that.

@vonder - Nice try, but not even close.

  21. I watched it and thought it was funny, didn't wince at all. Clint is a trained actor and serious director and knew exactly what he was doing. He provided a little levity to the rehearsed political speeches and was a Hollywood voice that said, "Hey, not all of us Hollywood people support this Obama guy. In fact, it's okay to NOT support this guy. And, since Obama never likes to show any vulnerability, I'm gonna poke fun at him and reveal him for the contrived empty suit that he is!"

It was great! Clint knew exactly what he was doing. Besides, he got all you to talk about it and to watch it on YouTube, didn't he?

    1. Clint has been surrounded by ass-kissers and yes-people. He should not have ad-libbed. He doesn't have that talent anymore.

  22. Clint believes in only doing one take, but I'll be he'd like a do-over on this one. I felt bad for him as well. I guess they hadn't vetted his or Ryan's scripts/speeches. Let that be a lesson. . . .

    ReplyDelete
  23. @KatD, exactly . I heard it the same way and we thought it was funny. Not bad for 82.

Clint 's message was yes we elected you and yes it is ok to fire you due to job performance. The folks that voted you in were not racist 4 years ago and those same voters who choose to not reelect you this time are still not racist. In other words, please stop this great divide of race baiting. The conversation with the empty chair gave birth to Eastwooding and was hilarious, as was the Pres. twitted picture in response.IMHo.

@Jamie 2: I wasn't attempting to make any assumptions about your political affiliation (which is why I added "and also just as a human being") to my comment. It (Clint's bit) was just awkward from a human perspective. I was dreading him having a "senior moment" in front of millions of people (or an even WORSE one than what we all saw). And as for voting D for prez, don't feel bad: I did for most of my life...until I came to my senses ;)

  28. What's most damaging about Clint's pathetic performance at the convention was that it has completely stolen Mitt's thunder. Very, very few people are talking about Mitt and his speech. All the talk now is about Clint's cringe-worthy performance. Dems couldn't have scripted this better had they set this up themselves, LOL. BTW-I also thought it was disgustingly disrespectful of Mr. Obama in so many ways. Shame on Clint and on the Repubs for such a shameful display.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Totally! I heard that he spoke at a GOP fundraiser over the summer and did a great job. I think Mitt's team got a little star struck and let him run wild. He was provided talking points, but other than that, the organizers never had control of him.

It's a sad thing when people use this forum to throw insults and call names at those who disagree with them politically.

  30. I dont really see people doing that at all. I think most peopl, no matter their politics, thought that his speech was strange and set of some alarm bells.

  32. It's a has-been party for bigoted 80 year old men like old Clint.

The Republican Party, the party of anti-business, anti-women, anti-progress!!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I watched part of his speech and thought he appeared doddering and frail and almost confused like the old person looking for their car in the parking garage. Sad...

    ReplyDelete
  34. He was anything but confused. Looked perfectly sober and straight and sane to me !

  35. Did anyone watch Jon Stewart on Friday night?

    Absolutely briliant!

I have loved Clinty since his Spaghetti Western days. He is one of my childhood heroes. I don't care about his politics and I don't want to remember him like that. The chair fiasco.

    That's hilarious.

I've been told all my life the R's were the party that puts big business above "the people"

Thanks for clearing that all up!

  37. Jay,

Pull your head out of your ass and don't believe everything you see on Fox!

Pro-business means putting people ABOVE money! Or are you a slave dealer?

  38. I was hoping some of the Republican voices would chime in here (with their butthurt idiocy). Thanks, guys!

    Saffron:

Jay was poking fun at you because you initially claimed that the Republican party was "anti-business." What's even funnier, though, is that your reply to Jay made even LESS sense. You said "Pro-business means putting people ABOVE money!" Whaaa??? Because, see, most people (Demo, Rep, whatever) would disagree with you on that. Are you drunk, perhaps? Conceptually dyslexic? Or is English your second language? What gives?

  40. LOVE Clint and he did a fabulous job during the GOP Convention. He was absolutely hysterical. This video...not so much. It's kinda NOT really that funny. It's a little desperate and a little too much try to make fun of Clint for being a Republican.

  41. @Saffron. You need to pull your head out of your @ss and realize all you read on CNN isn't true.
