Breaking Amish Isn't Real
First it was House Hunters and now it is Breaking Amish. Apparently reality television isn't so real after all. Does that mean The Hills was faked? My world has been shattered. Almost none of the cast members on Breaking Amish have been living in their faith for awhile. One is actually a model. Abe and Rebecca have a child together. Jeremiah is divorced with three kids and has not seen another Amish person in 14 years. Sabrina is married and loves going out to clubs in short skirts and heels. All of the awe shucks things in New York City and the getting on an airplane for the first time aren't true. TLC admits the show is not 100% authentic and says that at some point the show will address which things are real and which are not. I don't think that will happen unless people say something. The show does well, and all they have to do is say it is scripted television and everything would be fine.
Enty. I really love you, and I love your site, but I have to say that I'm really, really grossed out by the anti-choice ads, and sadly, I don't feel good about reading your blog until they are taken down and/or replaced. Love you, love you, love you, please change it. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteIt was so obvious it was scripted, I mean come on. I still like it though. Maybe they're recreating their 'break out' experience?
ReplyDeletePlease none of these shows are ad lib....please
ReplyDelete@Amanda Duarte - if you don't want to see ANY ads, install AdBlock Plus from Firefox. It disables all ads.
ReplyDeleteNext youre gonna tell me Ghost Hunters isn't real.
ReplyDeleteI read this somewhere a while ago. On some website the mother of a girl who Jeremiah dumped in order to do this show was ranting in the comment section. TLC is becoming ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteMy husband's son-in-law was in an episode of a reality show about a certain industry (I don't want to say what industry). He told us the whole thing was scripted - they filmed him doing different reactions to an imaginary problem - anger, laughter, anxiety, etc. He said it was the stupidest thing he had ever done. These shows are crap
ReplyDeleteAnd Enty - I'm just sick of all the ads that start talking without warning and there are so many ads after I upload your site I often have to reboot my computer. I'd hate to have to stop coming here, and I know you need the money for bacon, but damn - pull it back a little!
firefox + ad block plus = Zero Ads
ReplyDeleteplus both are totally free
re: ads are pain in butt. I went ahead and added adblocker to chrome and it works. I'm sure theyare watching my every move now, I had to agree to let them know all sorts of stuff, but I don't care. I didn't notice anti choice ads but many ads have to do with the other sites you visit. I get bombarded with children's place ads cause I went to check out some cargo shorts.
ReplyDeleteHaving an apple=no ads, no pop ups.
ReplyDeleteAfter all the problems with the ads on my laptop I only open this site on my iPhone and never have a problem anymore
DeleteHear here. I too only open this site on my phone. There's so much crap running through this site it messes upy computer and I have to restart it.

DeleteI like the show and have heard rumors it was fake for awhile now. This is very deceptive and disappointing.
ReplyDeleteOf course its bullspit, real amish wld never do this. Tlc is on the edge if idiocy if they dont stop these jerky shows.
ReplyDeleteAnd i fail to see the interest factor. " oh, they have strict clothes! Vhv never been to nyc!". Please, go down to port authority and talk to some of the 15 yr olds gettingviff bus as runaways. Now THATS a reality show!
DeleteAh the Learning Channel.
ReplyDeleteI don't know about you, but I feel like I've learned something today.
I don't believe any "reality show" is real. Over on Blind Gossip, they were talking about how they are planning story lines for next season to make one of the characters more sympathetic. The boyfriend is supposed to be very controlling. Well, the gossip sites are already saying that Kanye has put Kim Kartrashian on a diet. It is all fake.
ReplyDelete@Amanda - I never see anti choice ads personally. I think the ads you get are based on previous browsing experiences recorded in google.
ReplyDeleteSo I only get ads for online poker, dating sites, shitty free web games.
I guess what I'm trying to say is google more hardcore pornography and it'll fix all your problems.
:)
I haven't seen anti choice ads. I can't take my eyes off the ad warning me I might die alone. It's like musical chairs and I better fucking find one now.
DeleteBTW, I don't have any "anti choice" ads on my CDAN. I have Nordstrom, Horchow, Wisteria, Chico's and the like.
ReplyDeleteThe place that I work had a TLC reality show come film this year. It was not live unscripted, it was where will we go now, what will we say, what is the story line, how are we going to set it up, etc. It was not spur of the moment captured reality, it was scripted planned reality.
ReplyDeleteI get the anti choice ads when I use internet explorer.
ReplyDeleteBreaking Amish isn't real???
ReplyDeleteDoes this mean that there is no Honey Boo Boo??
I feel like I did when I found out there was no Santa :(-
WHAT!?!? There's no Santa Clause!?
DeleteI'm pretty sure 'no such thing as Santa Claus' was what they had on a "reality" show; ie, it was total double bluff - of course Santa's real. At some point, this idiocy and fakeness has to end.
DeleteThere is a large population of Amish close to where I live, and they use my street with their horse drawn buggies. Yesterday I was walking out to my car and stepped in a giant pile of horse shit. Needless to say, the entire Amish population is now on my shit list (literally!)
ReplyDeleteThey should have done this more as a documentary, and not a reality show. I get that it IS essentially a documentary, but they're making it seem like the events are happening in real time, which is a lie.
ReplyDeleteLifetime could pick this up as a movie, and it would blow Liz & Dick out of the water.
Tried to watch the first episode, but within the first 10 minutes I knew it was fake. Nat Geo gave Mose from that old Amish in the City reality show the opportunity to show what actually happens in that situation. It was a lot more honest than TLC will ever be. Amish Out of Order if anyone's interested... although, Mose does some questionable things as a car salesman to them.
ReplyDeleteAnd this is why I don't watch "reality shows"
ReplyDeleteMr Wolf - ha! Most problems can be solved by googling more hardcore porn
ReplyDeleteRe: Ads
I have a Mac, and before I installed Google Chrome's adblocker I always got ads for whatever I had JUST been shopping for (swimsuits, kid's beach hats etc). However, I did google abortion one time (long story. Not me. Don't want to explain it) and all of a sudden I was seeing those anti-choice/anti-Obama ads that others have complained about. There's a whole science to it - in fact one of our funnier commenters works on that stuff for a living and has joked about it here
I was at a business that was filming a Real World scenario, and all I can say is that they are magicians in that editing room!
ReplyDelete@hazeldazzle - thanks for the tip. Now there are no ads and I feel kind of guilty.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's the cookies. Yesterday I looked at some clothes sites including a few I've never looked at before. Now on some of my regular sites ads for the clothing sites are coming up. I just ignore ads I don't like (unless it's a really gruesome picture of something)
I thought it might be scripted (not to this extent) based on Jeremiah's attitude and his eagerness to immediately start hooking up.
ReplyDeleteTLC is TLC, it's not called The Learning Channel. Hasn't been for years.
ReplyDeleteTLC tends to copy other shows but make them worse. The Nat Geo show is very good (or at least, I like it) and I much prefer A&E's Hoarders over TLC's version. TLC always makes the hoarder invite someone into their house and it's horrifying because the hoarder is mortified and the friend/relative is judgy and disgusted. A&E doesn't do that exploitative element.
As for the ads, I'm not downloading a blocker that is going to invade my privacy. It's almost impossible to look at this site when I'm at work because the ads slow everything down to a crawl. I've never seen ads his pervasive on a site. Business not going well?
next thing you know we're going to learn Honey Boo Boo eats a balanced diet.
ReplyDeleteFor those concerned about ad tracking go to www.abine.com, it a free download that prevents every click from being followed and recorded. Once installed it has a little box upper left corner of your browser. It's amazing when you go to a site like this that there are 10 trackers! Not anymore for me! Special thanks to I think it was Surfer? who turned me onto this a few weeks ago. I now have blocked over 5000 trackers!
ReplyDeleteAlos, get rid of Internet Explorer! It's terrible! If you have windows get Mozilla Firefox and install adblock-it's SUPER easy. I use Safari with adblock and I NEVER see ads. The internet is so much more fun!
Re: the ads, I'm reading on my Android phone and the one that's up at the top right now is about parental abduction, but the one that's usually up is something like "I am a Mormon." I was raised Catholic, but am not religious at all and haven't been for most of my life. And I'm not a parent either! Lol, I would love to see how the gurus came up with those :). This is the only site I read on my phone too. SMH
ReplyDeleteAll I want to know is whether the bitchy blonde actually wears dentures.
ReplyDeleteI like the anti-abortion ads. Not everyone thinks sucking innocent babies down a sink is a choice.
ReplyDeletePawn Stars and American Restoration is all scripted too. If you ever go to the Gold and Silver Pawn shop in Las Vegas, you will rarely see Rick, The Old Man Corey and the idiot (or genius actor?) Chumlee of the show there. Also people selling their items are mostly actors. I'm not surprised about Amish, especially when your talking about a group of people who's religion is not to be photographed in anyway (They fear the camera will "capture" their soul), and then there are TV Camera's following you around.

ReplyDeleteNone of the so called "reality" shows are real. And they all suck. They are ruining TV. With all the channels that are on satellite it's still almost impossible to find anything to watch with actual actors and a decent script. Its all stupid shit like Pawn Stars and Storage Wars and people getting their cars repo'ed UGH
ReplyDelete@The- so don't do it. This is America and it's a legal medical procedure. Thanks for playing!
ReplyDeletelate to the party here because of a busy weekend. Have an ex brother-in-law who was on Pawn Stars. They had him paint the car and bring it back so it would look better on TV. I love the show but was disappointed to hear how fixed it was. Canadian show Love it or List It films 2 different endings because too many people choose to "Love It" after having their home made over. And the Breaking Amish show lost me (and I'm a HUGE TLC fan) when the old ladies baking pies looked like they were trying not to laugh when reciting what were obviously lines over some 20 year old dish set.
ReplyDeleteI read this post when it came out the other day and today I finally got to see what the show is about. Didn't the chicks fakebake orange Snooki tan tip anyone off?
ReplyDeleteAnd I swear to God if one more person complains about CDaN's popup ads I'm going to take away your computer because you obviously don't know how to use it.
He's gay he's secretly dating entertainer Odain Watson so you'll see on an upcoming episode I know someone who work on production
ReplyDeleteMy gaydar told me that Matt Bristol is gay after the first episode. I has a suspicion Breaking Amish LA is fake. Now I've done a little research and found wedding pictures of Becky Yoder. Her makeup and hair are a lot better then the makeover on the show. Her husband doesn't look a bit Amish. There are also pictures of Lizzie Stoltzfus and her brother Sam. Lizzie even had a Facebook page before she deleted it. But she's had so many social media sites that she missed a few. There's one of her pre-pregnancy that is quite glam.
