Your Turn
I asked this one a long time ago. I think it might have been almost two years ago, so it is good to go again. Besides, it is a happy question and I like happy. What is the song you sing in your car or alone that you would be embarrassed to have your friends know that you like. Party In The USA by Miley? Big Girls Don't Cry by Fergie? Come on. There must be something. Oh, it is Jessica Simpson huh.
I can sing every verse of American Pie (the Don McLean version) and do when I'm making 1,000 copies in the copy room. And I hope that no one walks in and hears me.
ReplyDeleteTom Lehrer's "Masochism Tango".
ReplyDeleteMerlin, you're my hero for singing Tom Lehrer!
DeleteCall Me Maybe. Ugh I'm so ashamed.
ReplyDeleteMy bf and his mom were driving behind me. When we got home he asked why I was dancing around. I didn't want to admit it. But I was dancing and singing to call me maybe.
DeleteI'm not at all embarassed to admit that I love singing Disney songs! My favorite songs are from Mulan, Lion King, Jungle Book and my personal obsession: The Nightmare before Christmas. One of my bad habits (not that I think so but others do) is singing, all the time. I love to sing and I don't sound too awful (12years of choir!)
ReplyDeleteCool Rider from Grease 2.
ReplyDeleteIf you really want to know...what I want in a guy...LOVE IT!!!
DeleteIf you really want to know...what I want in a guy...LOVE IT!!!
DeleteI have that soundtrack. :-)
DeleteAny song from High School Music 1 & 2.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't be ashamed to admit to singing Disney songs--but I'm embarassed that I like some tween show theme songs! From shows like Victorious, Sonny with a Chance, and iCarly.
ReplyDeleteI'm even embarrassed to admit it to you guys.
Pitbull's "Give Me Everything Tonight" or B.O.B./Bruno Mars "Nothin' On You"...my street cred would be shot! ha.
ReplyDeleteSongs from Victorious and Big Time Rush just STICK in my head and will not go away!
ReplyDeleteThanks 7 year old son that watches!
I feel your pain. My 6 yo is in LOVE with Big Time Rush. But on the upside, she said she doesn't love Justin Bieber anymore.
Deletesongs from old movies or musicals....Like Tammy and The Bachelor (love the song Tammy) or from Easter Parade if it's near Easter "A bunny for my hunny, a dolly with a curl" But especially if it's raining....cause you know....."I'm singinnnnnnngin in the rain".....
ReplyDeleteAh, @*karen* I see I'm in good company! ;)
ReplyDeleteor on the opposite end....Green Day ;)
ReplyDelete@rejectedcarebear & @*karen* - its good to know there are fellow disnerds here. DISNEY SONGS ROCK!
ReplyDeleteNot embarrassed by the artist but the song is suuuuper hard. "I will always love you" by Whitney Houston. I belt it out In my truck and in my shower.
ReplyDeleteGood times for my family, I'm sure.
Anything from the Jake and the Never Land Pirates soundtrack. I did that to myself though, because I bought it for my little monster.
ReplyDelete@IDotheRobot - Call Me Maybe is second on my list, so you're not alone :)
"Night Moves" by Bob Seger.
ReplyDeleteDean Martin for me - all of them, I am an old soul!
ReplyDeleteI found myself singing the Cookie Monster version of Call Me Maybe yesterday.
ReplyDeleteI'm a Creed fan and will sing to anything by them - but many think they stink or don't like them so I keep it to my self.
ReplyDeleteBohemian Rhapsody, and embarrassing only because I try really hard.
ReplyDeleteMy all time shame inducer is Christopher Cross- Arthur's Theme. Just typing it makes the chorus explode from my mouth like musical vomit! "if you get caught between the moon and New York City...."
ReplyDeleteE.T. ~ Katy Perry. Loathe her, am addicted to that stupid song :-(
ReplyDelete"Ice, Ice Baby" always and forever, complete with a little dance
ReplyDeleteA true oldie: Top Of The World by The Carpenters.
ReplyDeletejustin beiber Boyfriend
ReplyDeleteThe Barney Theme song, seriously, it's catchy.
ReplyDeleteMy niece and I always sing The Climb by Miley Cyrus. I do it only because of her....um yeah
ReplyDeleteOk, since we are all in this together I'll admit I like several Selena Gomez songs and sing them hella loud when I'm by myself in the car or at home...
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDelete@carebear - I sing all the time too! My patents took me to dinner theater A LOT as a kid and it's mostly old show tunes. However, I just sing sentences around the house now. Things a normal person would just say out loud. Ex: I am very thirsty. Does anyone else need a drink? Or I love, love my puppy. He has giant ears. Etc.
ReplyDeleteIt works with everything and makes the day oh so fun. I can't remember lyrics to real songs and make them all up anyway. They way they should go in my head is often much more hilarious.
@Renoblondee, at least you have a 7-year old. I'm 29 without kids! I can give no excuse.
ReplyDeleteMM, I love American Pie (the original; not that Madonna bullshit) and even corrected a guy in high school when he was singing it. I couldn't help it. I know that song inside and out!
ReplyDeleteI'm kind of embarrassed that I like almost every song Katy Perry has released from Teenage Dream. Not a fan of California Girls.
After a lifetime of loving rock & roll and attending several hundred rock roll concerts and still if I get a Lerner/Lowe song from My Fair Lady inside my head it refuses to leave for weeks at a time. "The Street Where You Live" is the greatest offender (probably because my Dad constantly walked around the house singing it back in the 60's when I was a wee lad). "I Could Have Danced All Night" is nearly as insidious. Of current acts Eisley songs dig the deepest into my brain and refuse to let go. I had to stop using Eisley ringtones because of it.
ReplyDeletePart of me by Katy Perry and Tic Tok.
ReplyDeletePart of me by Katy Perry and Tic Tok.
ReplyDeleteI have a song by the Carpenters, too, Rolf. I sing Superstar all the time when I'm by myself!
ReplyDeleteThat's not embarrassing at all. They were AWESOME.
I'm not really ashamed of anything. Everyone I know knows I love Spice Girls, New Kids on the Block (Through Step by Step, nothing after that), Journey, and Air Supply. Ain't no shame in my game.
I even got to have an Air Supply moment with the oldest stepkid this weekend. I was hugging him up and said "I'm going to squeeze all the love right out of you!" After the hug was over he says "I'm all out of love!" immediately causing me to bust into "I'm so lost without you, etc., etc.)" He didn't get it but my man started laughing and singing along. It was an awesome Saturday morning moment.
Liza with a Z. The entire concert.
ReplyDelete"Springtime for Hitler and Germany" -the Producers, Mel Brooks.
"Comment" by Les McCann.
It varies. Right now I've been singing Joan Baez's old song "Silver Dagger."
ReplyDeleteYou belong to me by Taylor Swift is my embarassing sing along.
ReplyDeleteI totally own all the others. Even Firework by KP and I hate her!
I'm not embarrassed to love any music, because it's a big part of my life - EXCEPT - top 40 crap, which isn't really music. So yes, I'll admit to singing along to Miley's "Party in the USA". I would never, EVER tell any of my friends that I dig on something by Miley Cyrus.
ReplyDeleteMy bologna has a first name - its O S C A R.....
ReplyDeleteProbably anything Katy Perry. Never was a big fan of hers.
ReplyDeleteTV theme songs, like Gilligan's Island or The Nanny.
ReplyDeleteParty in the USA!
ReplyDeleteIt's not a secret from friends and family, but I usually turn down my iPod if it comes on while I'm on the subway.
I'm embarrassed to admit I'm embarrassed.
One Night in Bangkok. It really is a creepy song, but I can't quit it.
ReplyDeleteWhenever I go on car trips, I put in cds of Broadway musicals and sing the whole thing through, start to finish. I think I probably have at least 25 different musicals completely memorized.
ReplyDeletesuper trooper by ABBA and "The way you make me feel" by ronan keating - I get really really into it
ReplyDeleteSelena Gomez's "I Love You Like a Love Song" is one I belt in the car alone.
ReplyDeleteI'm not embarassed to sing ALL of Katy Perry's songs. They are too damn catchy!
Lots of Counting Crows. And "Suspicious Minds". Because, you know, Elvis.
ReplyDelete@ goheels83 , The Music Man is in your mix, I hope?
ReplyDeleteLabyrinth songs! I have no shame! ;D
ReplyDelete...oh and the Baka & Test theme song.....I am a tad ashamed of that, lol. ;)
ReplyDeleteAmerican pie!!!
ReplyDeleteWhen I am in a bad mood ~ Man of Constant Sorrow by the Soggy Bottom Boys always cheers me up!
ReplyDeleteKaty Perry with my daughter.
ReplyDeleteNormally, I am an 80's, indie rock and alternative kind of girl..so yeah..
That's What Friends Are For.....but I am hardly embarrassed by anything I do. Unless I tooted in public.
ReplyDeletePaul Revere by Beastie Boys, because I act O.G while I sing every single word even though all parties involved are crackas
ReplyDeleteJolene (as performed by Jack White)- because I like to sing with emotion! lol
ReplyDeleteInto the Night by Benny Mardones-I hope someone else remembers that song! the people driving by me must be saying OMG, why is that woman's face all contorted like that?? LOL
ReplyDelete59th St. Bridge Song - it always makes me happy. Sitting alone in the car stopped at a red light singing away, people in the next car pointing and laughing... who cares. Happy song makes me happy.
ReplyDeleteAnd of course Adele's Someone Like You. I like to wave my hand up and down like X-tina while I do it. And cry sometimes
ReplyDeleteI like a little rap-a-long to Bubba Sparx (there might be three x's in there, but I'd be too embarrassed to type it) "Ugly" every now and again.
ReplyDeleteCan't believe I'm admitting that---NO ONE knows this!
LOL - thanks to Merlin I have Poisoning Pigeons in the Park stuck in my head......I don't mind really.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteHaven't read them all yet, but mine is Bop (With You Baby) by Dan Seals. Hubby's is Indian Outlaw by Tim McGraw.
ReplyDeleteYes, we have a classic country addiction. Our kids HATE it (hee hee).
One Night in Bangkok - The greatest song ever about a chess match. WTH?
ReplyDeleteMadonna, "Express Yourself"
ReplyDeleteEvery song from the Purple Rain soundtrack :)
ReplyDeleteAll my kpop songs...
ReplyDeleteLazyday - have you ever listened to the Chess soundtrack? Absolute brilliance. In fact, add that to my list of things I sing out loud in my car (though I'm not really ashamed of my choice here).
ReplyDeleteparty rock anthem. (everyday i'm shufflin').
ReplyDelete^^"Indian Outlaw by Tim McGraw". LOL!!! i think that's the worst. hahaha!!! but now i'll have it stuck in my head. "my baby she's a CHIP-A-WAA!"
ReplyDeleteOh geez @RenoBlonde, now I've had I Love You Like a Love Song stuck in my head since I read your comment!
ReplyDelete"Save the Best for Last"
ReplyDeleteI love Showtunes too and on trips I love to play recordings of Prairie Home Companion and I love to sing along with the musical guests.
ReplyDeleteGood question! Mine include, but are not limited to (lol):
ReplyDeleteworldwide by big time rush
If I were a boy by beyonce
We found love by Rihanna
Glad you came by the wanted
Give your heart a break by Demi lovato
Pretty much every thing by flo rida
By my side by Nikki minaj
See that girl, watch that scene, diggin the Dancing Queen
ReplyDeleteOh and I love Michelle Branch 1,000 miles at full volume in the car.
ReplyDelete@astro girl.....super trooper!!!! (lights are gonna find me, shining like the sun) LOVE it
ReplyDeleteMy mom used to rock the sh*t outta that album, and not only did I sing it like a loon then, but I'm constantly singing (horribly)it and whatever comes to mind now (w/or without a mic)....and sadly, I've got a preacher's voice =loud.
//so sorry neighbors. kids -eh, deal with it ;)
I think others would guess that it would be any of the Kenny Rogers songs I belt out as I drive along but they'd be wrong. I'm never too emabarrased to refrain from singing any Kenny.
ReplyDelete@yodelay hahaha sorry! "Repeat peat peat peat peat"
ReplyDeleteI also am slightly embarassed to belt out What Makes you Beautiful. That one will stick in your brain for daaays.
ABBA Gold is one of my daggy favorites @Omama, i know every song by heart.
ReplyDeleteHah, the Phantom of the Opera soundtrack. Like, every song XD What I lack in skill I make up in enthusiasm ;)
ReplyDelete@astro - Love that album! My mom used to play it everyday on the way to school. I know them all by heart too. ABBA makes me happy :)
ReplyDeleteI like to take NyQuil and drive around singing Weezer's the sweater song at the top of my lungs....
ReplyDeleteOf course with all the NyQuil, I don't much care if anyone hears me....
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteAnd of course.....
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NY4xE9rAY8k
Born to be wild BY Steppenwolf. It makes me drive faster. Lol
ReplyDelete@dia Would you believe my first concert was ABBA. They played at the Sydney Showgrounds when I was 11, I went with my best friend and her mum and I wore brand new jeans. It was pouring rain, when I got home my legs were blue, still remember it like yesterday.
ReplyDeleteThat is so much cooler than my first concert, except the blue legs situation. Mine was Bon Jovi in the nose bleed seats.
DeleteABBA - just another reason to love Sweden. Haha!
@csprout - that was great....love the song too, but seriously that was funny
ReplyDeleteThe Moulin Rouge soundtrack, The Glee versions of 'Like a Virgin' and 'Teenage Dream', Cat Stevens 'Can't Keep It In' as well as any Foo Fighters (Best of You, My hero, Everlong)...am quite eclectic.
ReplyDeleteAs far as being embarrassed of my friends knowing, probably have to say You Don't Know by Eminem/50 Cent, just because it's a bit gangsta haha... 'this flow is gon' bring mo dough'. It's like this, when my son (who's 27) gets a listen at the cd's I burn he asks me 'how old are you??'. Also like the Free Willy song Will you be There by MJ, get that Mariah hand waving thing going, but that's not embarrassing, right?
ReplyDeleteSunny - oh the love I have for Paul Revere....
ReplyDeletealso, I just realized your avatar is not actually a rooster holding a surfboard which is what I thought it was...
Mine is R.E.M.s end of the world as we know it, and heck no, I'm not even close to knowing all the words. Doesn't slow me down a bit and I come back strong at the chorus though!!
"Brandy" by Looking Glass - moldy oldy that I can't help singing along to any time it comes on the radio.
ReplyDelete"The Reason" by Hoobastank - but I sing it deliberately as off key as I can. My kids join in if they are around - we've been doing it since they were little (18 and 20 now!)
"Maldito Alcohol" by Pitbull - omg I LOVE that song! "Yo no quiero agua, yo quiero bebida" LOL
@Popnursing
ReplyDeleteI swear to God, Paul Revere is the only song on the planet that I know every single word. Oops, and Livin On a Prayer. But that's it :)
My avi: Ha about the rooster, because that's a duckdive (when you swim under a wave with your board). I took World History with this artist's husband, and then coincidentally sent her on a surf trip when I was a travel agent. I've surfed half my life, so super funny when a long lost friend bought me this print (my avi) for my 31st birthday. Koooooky!
Reach Out by Olivia Newton-John from the Warm and Tender album. :(
ReplyDeleteShhh....
@skeeball:
ReplyDelete"She's just 16 yrs old, leave her alone,
They said...
Separated by fools who don't know what
Love is yet..."
LOVE that song! :D
ole to Billy Joe...and Gordon Lightfoot's carefree highway and I get my grand-daughter to belt out, "she thinks my tractor's sexy" when we are driving, she cracks me up everytime..good thing the hubby is behind the wheel.
ReplyDeleteI listen to some crazy stuff, most of which I'm not embarrassed to admit to ;).
ReplyDeleteThe exception? Dopeman by N.W.A. I know, very classy lol.
@astrogir: 1000 miles is vanessa carlson? carlton? only know bc thats one i belt out too! and michelle branch.. "your EVERYWHERE to meeee" but mostly a bunch of eminem songs and i get soo into it! the most annoying thing i sing (and i dont know if those not in the ny/nj area will know what im talkin abt) is K-A-R-S kars for kids! omg i despise it but it wont let go of my brain!!
ReplyDeleteI sing and dance in my car quite a bit. Definitely to the songs you mentioned. I like a lot of really terrible music, so I probably should be embarrassed all the time.
ReplyDeleteI've jammed out to "Hold On" by Wilson Phillips since I was 11, so I'll go w/ that one. ;)
@FSP
ReplyDeleteAre you lie telling about Cool Rider? I need to put together some more pieces of the puzzle (see: my ability to remember weird shit other readers have posted. ex. The clink? Spill)
@lalaland yes that would be the one. *cringe*
ReplyDeleteI am also a "know all the words to American Pie" person. I thought I was the only one!! I am not embarrassed by it but apparently I belt it out more often than not when wasted..
ReplyDeleteFish heads, fish heads rolly polly fish heads. Fish heads fish heads eat them up YUM!
ReplyDeleteDance With Me by Orleans, Fuck and Run by Liz Phair and Fire Door by Ani DiFranco!!
ReplyDeleteAny song by Taylor Swift that comes on the radioo
ReplyDeleteI drove across America and taught my daughter the words to "The Weight" and "Me and Bobby McGee" - I sing you are my sunshine at the top of my lungs for my grand-daughters using various musical styles.
ReplyDelete@redronnie
ReplyDeleteThe Weight (by The Band) is probably the best road trip song ever. Good choice :)
"Back Here Baby" by BB Mak. Recently drove for the first time in months (in the Faroe Islands, of all places), realized I had the freedom to sing, and THAT was the first song that popped into my head.
ReplyDelete@Popnursing - LEONARD BERNSTEIN!!!!!
ReplyDeleteRIGHT???? RIGHT!!!!!
Those are the the audience participation moments at an REM concert.
One more - Jelly bean boom. You symbiotic patriotic slam dunk feeling sort of psyched.
Ooh I forgot about Liz Phair and Janis Joplin! My fav road trip band is the Eagles. Dunno why but they help me settle into a long drive.
ReplyDeleteSo, I am embarrassed by how much love Britney Spears, THAT is embarrassing since The Cure is one of my desert island picks. My tastes vary....
Make that any Cake Ani or Joni song!
ReplyDeleteA few years ago, the answer to this question would've been "Hey Jealousy" by the Gin Blossoms. But I'm not ashamed anymore. That is a great pop record and I sing that song to the point of tears every time I hear it.
ReplyDeleteSince I tend to buy stuff from iTunes when I've been drinking, my current car shame song would probably be something like "Ghost" by the Indigo Girls.
*sigh*It just feels good to be honest.
ps-@FSB, you are awesome. Grease 2 is the greatest.
ReplyDelete
