Vanessa Paradis Talks Johnny Depp In Elle
If you were hoping for some kind of earth shattering revelation about what split up Vanessa Paradis and Johnny Depp, it is not really found in her French Elle interview. She hints at some of the same things she did in the last interview she did before they announced their split. She says that people should not have to work at being happy and that she worked and worked and that she still was not happy. She also says she hates talking about him. Vanessa had one great quote that probably made the interviewer feel bad for asking the question, but I am glad they did. "Who said that artists should sell their soul, expose everything about themselves? ... It's my duty to promote this movie, and my albums, but can you imagine what it feels like to see people making a business out of your pain."
I can see where she is coming from. Her pain does make money. It is an interesting way to put it. Johnny and Vanessa have been on tabloid covers. Think about all the pain Liberty Ross is going through and US and the other tabloids make a great deal off that. At the same time, they are also perfectly willing to use those same forms of media to make money when it is convenient for them, so...
Excuse me, that $ group would include you, Entwood?
ReplyDeleteI understand the complaint, but ultimately, celebrities earn the big bucks for tolerating this. For better or worse, gossip is part and parcel of the industry and the reason for their compensation.
ReplyDeleteAt least she had the good sense not to publicize the relationship endlessly before complaining about the coverage.
Trade-off for fame. Sorry.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I realize they make money for the studios, etc., but gossip and publicity fuels the machine that drives people to watch their movies and buy their music. Celebs are only content when they can control the message.
ReplyDeleteHow sad would she be if people stopped talking/caring about her, and she becomes irrelevant? If she (or any other celeb) doesn't sell, the work dries up. Learn to cope.
ReplyDeleteAnd yet she talks about it. There are plenty of people that do not even "hint" about anything in their relationship. She makes money out of her relationship because, honestly, who knows her without the Depp's ____ label?
ReplyDeleteshe is very big in france. not in america, so plenty of people know her there because she is a singer.
ReplyDeleteshe has a valid point. I feel badly for her.
It's hard not to be interested in the personal details of breakups, etc., when one invests time and money reading about the celebs, buying their CDs / movies / books etc.,
ReplyDeleteOne invests emotional time, even if slight, wondering who cheated on who / who's impossible to live with, because when we buy the product ("their souls") we expect the content to be backed up somewhat in their personal lives.
When someone acts particularly scandalously, many have mentioned Woody Allen in other threads, I can't buy tickets to see his movies, because I am supporting his lifestyle and indirectly, supporting his second? family.
I watch for what's happening with Angelina Jolie, because after what she did to Laura Dern and Jennifer Aniston, I'm always waiting for her to get her comeuppance. I once had a similar type of woman tear through my life and ruin it.
I have more emotional time invested in Vanessa Paradis, because I'm Canadian, and was working in Quebec at the time she was becoming a famous singer. I want to know, well, is she really such a bitch? Or is Johnny Depp just a perennial cheater? How are their kids doing?
What caused them to split after so many years? I think people care, in this case, because they are very fond of one, or the other, or both.
Even if my own longterm relationships never seem to work out, I always hope for longterm celebrity relationships....Sorry so long.
Everything has ups and downs. This is just what you have to deal with if you want that life.
ReplyDeleteLet me just say, one reason French people are so awesome is because they are so beautiful and smart. The other is their setting. Look at that fountain! Hussy, a sack of potatoes would be beautiful in that setting! But you're pretty, girl. I'm just jealous. No one builds fontaines et châteaux for me.
ReplyDeleteFor her next birthday I'm going to send off to Pat Sajak and see if I can buy her an E. Get her a little bit of paradise as a gift.
ReplyDeleteAnd as to her complaint I always find "that's none of your business" the best answer when somebody asks a question that is none of their business. Throw a GD in there before the word business if you are feeling feisty that day. If you feel your private life isn't the public's business don't indulge their curiosity by partially answering questions about your personal life. Make it out of bounds in good times and bad. The best celebrity answer to an intrusive question I've heard was in the 90's when the press was speculating that Michael Stipe was bisexual or gay. Stipe told a reporter that the only person whose business his sexuality was was the person sitting in his lap. Period. Hard to argue with that.
ReplyDeleteArtists (and other entertainment industry people) are under no obligation to "expose everything about themselves," just what is necessary for their particular project(s). They do have to tolerate widespread malicious gossip, that's the price of fame, but they're not obligated to feed the beast. Some do, some don't; that's their prerogative. Think of it in terms of yourself; we've all been gossipped about at least on a small scale. When this happens, do you ignore the nonsense, respond to it? It's different for different people in different circumstances. If you're famous, it just happens on a larger scale.
ReplyDeleteI think it comes with the territory and a good come back for a question you do not want to answer is also appropriate.
ReplyDeleteThat said...what the heck is going on with her hands in that photo...photoshop much????
Geez, Vanessa always looks like she's trying to eat her own face. But I guess I should be happy she's eating something.
ReplyDeleteI don't have any pity for her. Celebs use publicity all of the time for their own purposes, then get pissed off when they can't control it. Sucks to be you, baby. I do think that sometimes magazines, etc., go overboard (I don't think Britney's near-constant meltdowns a couple of years ago being caught on camera did her emotional wellbeing any good, for instance), but you have to expect people are going to be interested in your life if you are a celeb. And I don't think the intrusion into hers has been particularly onerous.
Barton, I've met plenty of dumb, ugly French people.
I know she's popular in France, but except for one record many years ago no-one would ever have heard of her, or remember her. The only reason we know who she is now is because of Johnny Depp. She isn't the prettiest of girls, unknown as an actress outside France and her singing voice is best suited to the bath, so if she wants to keep being interviewed maybe quit complaining about the only thing that makes her interesting. Might sound harsh, but the truth often is.

ReplyDeleteVanessa- go f*ck yourself!

ReplyDeleteCelebrities need to get a grip. Like a lot of readers have said on here its the trade off. However there are many celebrities that are quite famous and yet you never hear about their personal lives, etc. I think a lot of celebrities are crying wolf when they pull the I want privacy card. And yes I do agree the paparazzi are really disrespectful at times and quite crazy.
ReplyDeleteLOL. OMG, she has scarier hands than Angelina.
ReplyDeleteI think somebody photoshopped Peter Boyle's hands from Young Frankenstein onto her wrists.
ReplyDeleteProbably the reason for the break-up was because she got feed-up with JD not taking a shower LOLOLOL
ReplyDeleteYeah that and his alleged constant cheating. He needs to leave on the horse he rode in on. No, wait. He can't. He gave it to Amber Heard.
Deleteshe never buys her private life and in France, the law protects the private life and family life contrary to USA (it's why celebrity kids'faces are hidden on paps pics)
ReplyDeleteand
ReplyDeleteThis sounds to me like a woman who stayed for so long with a man in hope for a secure future, like marriage. Johnny Depp is not the marrying kind of type. He would probably do so by the time he's 60++ just to make sure someone is waiting for him on his deathbed. However bitchy Vanessa Paradis might be, my hearts goes to her. One should never try to be happy, because it comes from within. If you're not happy then it is time to move on.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Munch and misskania. I used to feel sorry for these celebs but now I don't. Many celebs don't put themselves in places where the paps are. They are in control of what is said and presented about them.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, complaining about paps is like a stripper complaining that she has to get naked (but still wanting to get paid). You know what you're getting into when you sign up.
There are actually quite a few celebs who live private lives. They don't use their private lives for publicity. Robert Redford has done it for years.
ReplyDeleteShe used her relationship with Dipp to get some coverage. It never really panned out for her.
I don't think Dipp would be a bowl of fun to be with either.
