  3. lol OMG that reminds me of my siblings and I would go to Six Flags Safari and my dad with have the sun roof open so that they would come in, well my brother had the bright idea of getting the giraffe's attention by giving it twizzlers, yes twizzlers, needless to say we had a stampede of giraffes vying for our attention. We hardly made it out alive.

  4. Oh, good doggie! Thanks for the tip, @Agent.

I wanted to punch that woman in the face. It's a GIRAFFE. It's not going to eat you.

As a kid, I turned my back on the giraffes at the zoo while leaning on the fence. I got licked!

  5. If you run the giraffe tape, it comes up at the end - bottom right box. (I think)

I also wanted to smack that woman. She acted as if the giraffe was going to rape her kid or something. At least her husband tried to tell her to chill and let the kid have fun.

Once when I was a kid we went through one of those drive-through nature places outside San Antonio, and at one point my mom had turned around to yell and my brother and me for something (no doubt deserved). When she turned around, it was to find that a water buffalo had managed to stick his entire head -- horns and all -- through her window and she was literally touching noses with him. She was totally surprised and let out a scream that scared the poor animal so much he peed. My idiot brother and I, along with our dad, laughed so hard we almost joined him. Good times, good times ...

Oh, and one time at the Houston Zoo a camel drank my entire glass of Sprite. Then he spit at me.

Off Topic---Texshan, I want to apologize for leaving yesterday during our discussion. If I KNOW I have to go, I will warn people.

My GI problems have been acting up lately; I can only eat once a day, then I get sick. Some days earlier than others.
I know we don't agree on a lot of things, but if I MEANT to leave you hanging, I would have warned you. I've had a rough few weeks, physically & stress-wise. I'm not looking for pity, I'm just trying to explain why I've been so in and out, to you particularly for yesterday.

    Take care.

Btw, I'm going to take a nap even NOW. I hope you see this. Thanks.

That's OK, Libby. I'm sorry you are having such a rough time. I know you are napping now, but I hope you will read this later. Have you been to see a gastro doc for these issues? Some people just put these problems down to a "nervous stomach" or a spastic colon/IBS, but you should really get it checked out if you haven't already.

    WARNING -- TMI TO FOLLOW

I had to have a colonoscopy two months or so ago, and while they do suck, at least I found out why I kept bleeding and cramping all of the time -- hello, polyps! So, in short, please make sure you are taking care of yourself. We may never agree on things politically, but that doesn't mean I don't want you to be healthy and cared for!

    IT'S SAFE TO READ NOW

MIK, glad you got a laugh from the story!

  14. Definitely get it looked at Libby. I have had IBS since I was a kid and my grandmother and great grandmother died of colon cancer.. I was diagnosed with Crohn's 2 years ago... Ive had to make some life changes and tweaks in medication but I can actually live life now. Good luck!

  15. Am I the only person drinking epsom salts to prevent that kind of stuff? You guys make me wonder.........

  16. Libby and others suffering with IBS, etc. I know we don't know each other but I've followed this blog and read comments for a few years and I am concerned about you. I went through a similar problem as you, dropped 25 lbs without trying and was put on 3 meds to treat symptoms. I finally insisted on seeing a gastroenterologist, and found out I have Crohn's. The medicine Apriso (mesalamine) is working for me so far--reduces inflammation in the GI tract. I was glad to know, but it is a bummer. So, whatever is really ailing you, I hope you'll track it down and live a better life. I was at the point of being scared to travel, afraid to RSVP for even local events in case of a flare-up. Please get it checked, and be well :)

  17. I agree with the rest of the people here, fuck that lady, it's a freaking giraffe. What a moron, those giraffes are too good for people like that.

  18. Once, at a zoo where you could buy food to feed the giraffes, I held a biscuit in my mouth to try to get it to kiss me. That lady was getting giraffe kisses with absolutely no effort. Fucking ingrate.

  19. Also this could be Crohn's with which my father has been suffering from since I can remember. Don't be afraid to get multiple opinions as there is help and treatment out there. Suffering from stomach issues is debilitating and totally suck and I wish all those with issues good vibes in dealing with them.

  21. Hey everyone,
Just want to also encourage folks to see the GI if you are having any stomach pain. I had felt bad for so long, that it felt "normal" to me. A few months back I thought I was having a heart attack, with all the classic symptoms for a woman. Turns out my heart is good, but I have multiple stomach issues. After tests, I have been diagnosed with polyps all over the place, bleeding ulcers, bad gallbladder (surgery to remove it 8/17) GERD and IBS. Cells are pre-cancerous, so tests every 6 mos. for the rest of my life. So yeah, if I had taken better care of myself years ago, I wouldn't be like this now. So learn from my stupidity, and take care of yourself.

  22. Various auto-immune diseases, particularly ones that affect digestion and the gut, can be treated with Helminth therapy.
You won't like the THOUGHT of it, but it seriously seems to work, without all sorts of drugs.
Basically, in an auto-immune disease, the body has gone into "freak-out" mode for no reason, and attacks its own cells. The theory is to give it something fairly benign to "attack" instead, and it quits attacking itself and the auto-immune disorder symptoms go away. In Helminth therapy, they introduce a relatively harmless parasite like hookworm or ringworm, and the body rightly fights that foreign invader, and stops fighting itself. Over all the person become much healthier, very quickly, and it has successfully treated Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, and IBS/IBD, as well as less obvious things like multiple sclerosis(!), asthma, eczema, dermatitis, hay fever and even food allergies.
Without over-medication. But there's a lot of ick-factor going on, I understand. Anyway, it explains why less-developed countries, including our own ~150 years ago, had almost no auto-immune diseases and why "clean" countries now seem to have so many.

  23. Sorry, NOT ringworm, whipworm! (Ringworm is actually a fungus.)

  24. Someone needs to start a blog for all our talk about medical conditions. It would be an excellent way to exchange information that we could go back and reference.

I'm kinda this lady on the car. My sister took me to one of those parks were you drive and feed the animals. A llama (or some other creature) came right into my window, scared the bejeebus outta me and that chow you buy went flyin! I LOVE animals but it made me skeert them coming at me.

Hilarious story Texshan. Gotta watch those camels cuz they have some nasty spit I am told.

Leah, good luck on the gallbladder surgery. I had mine out in 1999. I had been ignoring pain and cramping for months, and then had a full-on gallbladder attack. While in an airplane over Iceland. Going to Europe on vacation for two weeks. By myself. Obviously, not an optimal place to have that happen. Four days later I was back in Houston sitting in a GI's office. Two days after that I had surgery. I still have IBS (I'm an at-least-six-BMs-a-day girl. I have no idea how I stay fat) and I just had a couple of polyps removed, but that gallbladder pain was awful. You'll feel so much better afterward!
