The Most Kneepadiest Article Ever Written About Anyone
Debra Messing and her publicist should get down on their knees and thank whoever hooked them up with this writer named Suzy Byrne who writes for Yahoo/OMG. Seriously, I don't understand how Suzy does not have a job with People Magazine. I will post some portions of it here, but honestly, there is no way I can do this justice in just a few blurbs. You really need to click over and read it in its entirety. I recommend doing so in small portions because if you try and take it all in at once you will overdose on sugary sweetness. I am convinced this Suzy person has every episode of Will & Grace memorized and has conversations with herself about what it would be like to be Debra Messing's best friend and how they could hang out and swap recipes and go shopping together followed by lunch and would call and text and Twitter each other all night, and it would just be the bestest.
"Also fun is the special parenting practice she uses with her child: note writing. "I have been doing it for my son for years," shares the actress. "I leave notes on the mirror of his bathroom, on the refrigerator. I have them in his books and his book bag. I don't know if it sort of tickles me more than it tickles him, but I feel like they are kind of love notes. They encourage him and make him feel supported and loved throughout the day when he finds them." Roman has taken to writing his own, which she says she saves in a special box. "He leaves me notes that typically just say, 'I love you mama,' which is the only note that makes me cry," she says."
I know you are saying to yourself, well that is kind of cute. Sugary, but cute. Yeah, like a Katie Holmes interview about Tom cruise a few years ago. What makes this go overboard is the following paragraph.
"Because she is such a big fan of notes, Messing jumped at the chance to work with Post-it Brand on a new program they launched called Post-it Your Words Stick With Them, which highlights the power of a handwritten message."
And she also jumped at the nice big fat check she gave them and it also makes me feel like the whole notes thing is a set up she uses for Post It.
Oh, and she and her son were not able to take their usual vacation together. Why? "Unfortunately, I was not able to [accompany Roman on vacation], but I was able to travel to Zambia, which was wonderful," she says of her trip to South Africa. "I am Global Ambassador for PSI, a global health organization, so it was a different kind of vacation, but it was very meaningful."

There must be great Coke in Zambia, #snark
ReplyDeleteHaven't read the article, but I agree, this "talking about leaving her son notes" deal sounds like it is straight up promoting her Post It campaign. Blech.
ReplyDeleteOh, also wanted to mention that I like the word "kneepadiest".
ReplyDeleteBooger sugar
ReplyDeleteSince when is Zambia in South Africa?
ReplyDeleteThis is beyond Kneepads. It's an advertorial... and every actress strives to be part of the glamorous juggernaut that is the Post-It empire.
"He leaves me notes that typically just say, 'I love you mama,' which is the only note that makes me cry," she says."
ReplyDeleteHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I'm sure he does
It's always nice to see Coke Mom.
ReplyDelete"Post-it Notes" but only if we use our "Bic Ladies Pens". Let's boycott Post It and tell them why. Coke Mom, geez, louise.
Ned and stacy!
ReplyDeleteIs it just the dress or has Debra put on some weight. She used to have a pretty trim midsection.
ReplyDeleteBut does she go skiing in front of her kids?
ReplyDelete@beth - I'm thinking the writer/editor meant southern Africa or south Africa as opposed to South Africa. Funny how one capital letter can mess that up. All journalists, writers, editors should read Eats, Shoots & Leaves.
ReplyDeleteA marketing person from Post It wrote that over-the-top crap about her writing notes to her son. She didn't come up with that.
ReplyDeleteIt would behoove some celebrities to quietly slip away to Anonymous Land. Shall we make a list?
ReplyDeleteHow old is her son? When did he start reading?
ReplyDeleteAgreed w/ others that this smells like a PR stunt for Post-Its.
ReplyDeleteAll writers should know what they are writing about. Eats, Shoots & Leaves is highly overrated and largely disdained by most editors.
ReplyDeleteYes, Messing has gained weight, and she looks far better than she did when she was a bobble head.

'you will overdose on sugary sweetness'
ReplyDeletePowdered sugar anyone? *holds up plate*
"because she is such a big fan of notes" ?? Give me an f'ing break. Perhaps Debs has sold her soul to help cover her expenses b/c this takes shilling to a new level.
ReplyDeleteI think celebs who've already made an assload of money and then go on to shamelessly shill for things like Post-It notes look so greedy and stupid. She's made millions, and she is whoring herself out for note paper??
ReplyDeleteThe least Post-Its could have done was get Lisa Kudrow or Mira Sorvino instead, that would have been amusing.
P.S. Has it been confirmed that Deb is Coke Mom?
Romy and Michele would be perfect spokespeople! Thank you for the huge laugh
DeleteNo it has not been confirmed that DM is Coke Mom but if it is ever revealed my money won't be on DM.
ReplyDeleteLOL @shit you cant buy
ReplyDeleteI stopped reading after "tickle".
ReplyDeleteDebra has probably gained 30+ pounds since Will & Grace days. I saw her at a polo event in the Hamptons a couple years ago and she was not skinny and she is bigger now. Whether or not she used to be Coke Mom I don't know but obviously not anymore.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's that bad. Are we all so cynical?! Really?!
ReplyDelete"No it has not been confirmed that DM is Coke Mom but if it is ever revealed my money won't be on DM."
Mine either. I don't see it and I don't believe it.
She strikes me as one of those who must have sucked & fucked her way to success, because she completely lacks any talent and is not particularly attractive, either...
ReplyDeleteSounds like advertorial copy from hell. Who writes this shit?
ReplyDeleteSidenote: Love the name Roman.
Celebs do this all the time. We all know that highly-ranked actors are willing to do shampoo ads as long as they only air in Japan. (They might have stopped that since people started posting them on YouTube).
ReplyDeleteThere is an "article" just about every day in the Daily Mail mentioning what skin care cream or shampoo etc. that an actress uses. They don't quote the actress directly, but you bet she is getting paid to allow her name to be associated with the product. They're pretty quick to sue if it's not true or a company uses a look-alike.
Sometime last year, the DM had a photo of ScarJo going through a crowd-free Whole Foods with a trolley full of food. The "article" said that ScarJo loved healthy organic food, so the crew on her set had given her a gift cert for the store. (Her movie got a free mention too.)
I googled, and the store in question had opened two weeks earlier. What better publicity than having ScarJo in a perfectly-lit photo with lots of logos visible front and center in the Daily Mail gossip column? She probably got $50K for showing up for five minutes to pose behind the cart.
Tacky? Sure. I'd do the same thing if I could.
BTW, not too familiar with the whole coke mom saga, but the woman in that pic does not have the arms or body of a current coke addict.
This is definitely advertorial. No doubt and "she jumped at the nice, big fat check SHE GAVE THEM" Really, so she paid them to be their spokesperson?
ReplyDeleteMaybe she can send you some post its and you can write it down before you blog it!
@Rick Wrinklebottom: Quaintly put. I guess she sucked and fucked her way to an Emmy and an SAG award and ton of nominations too.
ReplyDeleteWait, I thought we ID'd coke mom last week and it wasn't Deb?
ReplyDeleteI'm a HUGE Will & Grace fan so I will always love Debra. I love Smash too, but not just because of her.
Can't view past 200 posts on the phone site, any help? I know when we had The himmmm fuss I could view them but I can't remember how I did it, or if it was on my laptop
ReplyDelete'Because she is such a big fan of notes'
ReplyDeleteoooohh you mean notes that come in enveloppes? Like sugary white powder?
That's why she likes handwritten stuff, becomes it comes in an enveloppe!
*I can't stop the snark, sorry*
This doesn't bother me too much. She's not the first actor to incorporate whatever product she is getting paid to advertise. A cheque is a cheque. I wouldn't turn it down.
