Ryan Buell Has Cancer

I love Paranormal State. Great show. Probably the best of all the paranormal shows out there. The star, of the show, and a paranormal investigator, Ryan Buell, has pancreatic cancer. That is not a good one to get. I don't know how I missed the news that he had announced it. I know there was a Paranormal Research Society convention not that long ago and he was supposed to be there, and was, but had been in and out of the hospital. I guess I didn't put the two of them together. I'm slow that way sometimes. Ryan's kidneys have been giving him some problems. I really hope this turns out ok for him.

  1. A good thing that came out of PSU but so sad for him. I hope for the best.

  2. Aww this is sad. I really like him. Sad that he has to deal with this so young. Pancreatic cancer is no joke. My thoughts go out to him.

  3. Is pancreatic cancer on the rise? I thought it was one of the more rare ones, but now there have been several high profile people - Sally Ride, Steve Jobs, Patrick Swayze.

Poor guy. He's so young. Happy thoughts to you, fellow psychic friend.

  4. So so sad to hear. I'm a huge fan of him, the show and PRS. Ryan is a really great guy. So caring, funny and warm. Really has a deep need to help people, not just w/ paranormal issues. I know Ryan came out as a bisexual a few years ago and he has been so supportive of the lgbt community. I'm sending out all the sweet prayers, kitten cuddles and endless rainbows to him, Serge and the family.

  5. Sad :( He's got quite the battle ahead of him.

  6. It's the worst diagnosis out there. Almost no chance of surviving it, and it is incredibly painful. Poor fellow.

Randy Pausch (the Last Lecture guy) also died of it. I've been wondering the same thing myself, dia papaya. It used to be associated with heavy drinking and smoking, but only Patrick Swayze fits that profile. Ride, Jobs, and Pausch were all very fit.

  7. Oh no, this is a nasty cancer...I wish him well.

  8. @dia- I was wondering that too. Is it something that's hard to diagnose maybe and therefore it just seems like it's on the rise?

So sad, always been a big fan of his and Paranormal State. He seems like such a sweet guy. The kidney trouble he has in conjunction with this was kidney failure! I don't know if your kidneys function normally after that, or if you have to go on dialysis.

I read something that said pancreatic cancer is hard to diagnose because by the time symptoms are noticeable or cause someone to go to the doctor, the cancer is usually at an advanced stage.

  10. This makes me so sad! What a horrible cancer to get for someone so young and into helping others. I wish him all the best.

  12. This makes me think that working with the other side is a bit dangerous. He is too young for this.

  14. Crapbag, It's scary you said that. I've been having lots and lots of stomach pain that intensifies the more I do that kind of work. Probably unrelated, but I've been thinking about it. My teacher can't put anything crap in her body now or else she gets really sick. No coffee, no alcohol, no chocolate, no gluten, no sugar. It's horrible. That will be me soon :(

  16. Pancreatic cancer is terrible. I'm currently at the cancer center watching my dad get fluids as he battles it. It is incredibly difficult to detect and typically is only detected in late stages which is why the mortality rate is so high. My dad just made 6 months- which only about 50% of ppl at stage 4 make. My heart breaks that yet another person will go through this pain. As unfortunate as it is, I hope the publicity from these famous ppl suffering from it will raise awareness and get some more funding for this type of cancer.

  18. Praying that he fights this successfully. Love the show. And that the people who know the cure for cancer stop riding the money train and release it. All the toxins we take in are causing cancer rates to rise. Our livers can only filter out so much crap.

  19. Starting with a couple of weeks ago, there were bits on Twitter and FB that he was in the hospital, but it wasn't until yesterday (at least as far as I know) that they said it was pancreatic cancer. Poor guy. Stay strong, Ry!

  22. Pancreatic cancer has a 4% 5-year survival rate. If I had it, I'd skip the horrible treatment options and just live whatever time I had left to the fullest.

  23. Ryan was actually diagnosed a while ago. It was caught at an early stage so it's believed he can beat it. The kidney failure was actually a kidney infection. Kidney problems are a frequent result of pancreatic cancer. He underwent a procedure a few days ago and is doing a lot better. The doctors believe he'll recover.

  24. Mooshki- I agree!

I know a guy that's had pancreatic issues (and has actually died on the table more than once and been revived) for years and he's hooked on painkillers, but he has to take them because of the pain.

    Wishing Ryan all the best!

I agree that working with 'the other side' can make a person more sensitive. dia papaya, giving up all those substances you mentioned in your first comment isn't so bad... they are all just chemically based anyway!
