Rashida Jones Tells John Travolta To Come Out
Rashida ones is not shy and never will be so when a reporter got her to start talking about people who should come out or have come out, Rashida said that a big movie star needs to come out. She then said the name John Travolta. "How many masseurs have to come forward? Let's do this."But you see he can't. It is not even about his career. It is about his church too. Homosexuality is not allowed at COS. Remember the whole Prop 8 thing and COS support for anything to do with a fight against same sex marriage. How can one of the biggest names in COS say he is gay after all of that? Rashida went on to say that John needs to do it now and not wait until after his death for the news to come out. "People are so precious about their careers."
WORD, Ms. Jones
ReplyDeleteHa. I looove Rashida Jones. Glad a celeb is saying what we are all thinking.
ReplyDeletePreach it sister....and love your dress.
ReplyDeleteThat's the problem with reaching upper levels of Co$---they feed you the bullshit that once you've given them enough money, you are super-human. Travolta wasn't supposed to 'be able' to produce a less-than perfect child, and yet he did. And his super-powers have yet to 'cure' his homosexuality.
ReplyDeleteIt must be awful to dedicate so much time & money & faith to a total lie, and have to hide away your child AND your true self FOR that lie.
I agree he's precious about his career, but I think it's also outside pressure on John NOT to bring down the core beliefs of the church, and the fairy tales they sell to people.
Maybe all GLBT actors/actresses should come out at once, like on a big TV special with Oprah. Then people like that twit director whose name I can't remember won't be able to say that homosexuals can't play straight leads.
ReplyDelete@Amber, that's a great idea. A new Labor Day tradition!
DeleteI don't know how I feel about her saying this. I mean, I agree with everything that she said but at the same time it feels sort of tacky to comment on something that isn't really any of her business.
ReplyDelete3 thoughts:
ReplyDelete1. She is saying what we're all thinking, and I applaud her honesty and have always liked her...
2. ...but the "people are so precious about their careers" comment is a bit skewed coming from the daughter of Quincy Jones. She'd have had a great life without any career, other people need theirs.
3. Where's Steppy?
I think Steppy is specifically on TC duty, not other CO$ celebs.
DeleteDon't you think he's worried about losing access to his children if he leaves the CO$? Assuming that Kelly Preston remains, he could be termed a SP and cut off from both his teenage daughter and toddler son.
ReplyDeleteThat said, the Cruise-Holmes case seems to be proving, at least temporarily, that it's possible for both parents to continue to be involved in a child's life after one leaves the church - at least if one of the parents is a major celebrity.
Where's Shelly?
ReplyDeleteA while back, Carrie Fisher also said he should come out, that everyone knows.
ReplyDeleteDid anyone else hear that Ron Palillo, Horshack on Welcome Back Kotter (with JT), just died?
Glad she spoke her mind, however it isn't her story to tell.
ReplyDeleteAnd I think she might have to hide behind Papa Q for a bit.
I love that dress!!!
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's her business.
ReplyDeleteI really like her. She's funny and speaks her mind, but not in a hurtful "Joan Rivers" kind of way.
ReplyDeleteGood for her. We are all thinking it anyway.
And I LOVE that dress!
Interesting. If she were a co-worker of yours gossiping about another co-worker, you'd tell her to MYOB. And if she was anything but the child of a celebrity, she'd know why people are "precious" about their careers.
ReplyDeleteThat said, her cpmments about JT, homosexuality, and the COS are spot on.
Oh shut up! I like her as an actress, but this was tacky as hell to publicly call someone out like that. Yes, everyone already knows, but coming out is a very personal thing for a homosexual person, and can be very hard depending on their situation. When did it become okay to try and force people out of the closet, just because they're celebrities? But when it happens to us normal folk, it's called bullying?
ReplyDeleteSince she wants to talk about who needs to come out, maybe she should tell her to tell her daddy to come out first. Until then, she should keep her mouth shut.
I watched the episode of her on Who Do You Think You Are. She has the most interesting family tree. If I remember correctly, some of her mother's family were part of a mass murder during the Holcaust. The entire Jewish community of that town was marched into the forest and shot to death.
ReplyDeleteI think she's pretty normal and down to earth for being Quincy Jones and Peggy Lipton's daughter. She's doing a lot better than other famous celebrity children.
I used to love her, but that's kind of tacky she said this. It's none of her business
ReplyDeleteI'm conflicted on this too. Love her honesty, but yeah, it's none of her business either.
ReplyDeleteFor the record, Jones made no comments about Co$.But I agree with Omama and others in that it is not her business.
ReplyDeletePeggy Lipton needs to tell her daughter to mind her own bees wax. Nepotism at its finest I guess.
ReplyDeleteYeah - if I said this about a co-worker I'd be in trouble for bullying in the workplace. While I don't care about sexual orientation, it's a persons private business whether or not to come out. Although if you keep getting sued........
ReplyDelete@Agent **IT -
ReplyDeleteCan I just say - I love it that whenever CO$ is mentioned, someone asks "Where's Shelly?" It makes me laugh out loud every time. I know it's not funny, but it's like the Betty White answer for everything to me.
Thanks for the smile!
where's Wally?
ReplyDeleteFine... I'm know his name is Waldo, but in Brazil that's his name and I thought it'd go well with Steppy and Shelly
:D
"How many masseurs have to come forward? Let's do this." - way to oversimplify the issue, Ms. Jones.
ReplyDeleteThe issue is NOT whether or not John is gay and has a thing for male masseurs.
The issue is whether he harassed/assaulted any of them.
Completely separate discussion.
As much as I respect Paul Haggis, the proof that COS actively supported Prop 8 is not there. Neither is it true that homosexuality is not allowed within COS. More of a don't ask, don't tell (except to your auditor) thing from what I've read.
ReplyDeleteI think it's important to be precise because COS is fundamentally a mind-control Ponzi scheme. A tottering one. If Miscavige wants to keep his murderous little empire from crumbling, he might very well reverse the COS opposition to homosexuality.
@B.Profane, Miscy has quite a friend in Louis Farrakhan.
ReplyDeleteShe's not wrong but it's not really her place to speak publicly about it.
ReplyDeleteLove her dress!
I love the dress.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what she said.
I believe it should have only been said in private.
It's very easy for a straight person to tell a community hey be who you are be gay be free!. But the truth is how many posts have I read that Matt Bomer can't be Christian Grey in Fifty Shades of Grey, that if Jeremy Renner comes out (allegedly gay) that they can't see him as an action star.
ReplyDeleteIt's fun to play poor when you're rich, its easy to support coming out when you're straight.
But its a hard, hard decision that everyone has to come to on their own. And most people who come out now are well established and can't hurt their careers at this point. It's a great role model for others but I don't think anyone should be presured until their ready and that includes John Travolta (allegedly)
I second the " Where's Shelley " love!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad Miss Jones is speaking up. Co$ is a terrifying orginization that needs big names to call them out more often. Let's not forget that JT is also a predator .. I have no issue with someone like that being put on blast.
OT but ever since I started reading the Tony Ortega pieces in the VV I've been an addict for the Co$ drama.. It's like a bad soap opera that I can't stop tuning in for. Or one of those crazier than fiction shows that pop up in the ID channel. I tell anyone who will listen about these guys and I'm still shocked ( ok they have money so not really ) that these gangsters aren't in prison. Religulous!
"Where's Shelly" is part of my daily Mantra.
ReplyDeleteI love Rashida but Timebob said it best. People should not be forced to come out. It's NOT always the best thing for them if it creates more stress than comfort. Let John decide for himself.
ReplyDeleteWhat about her dad? I've read too many stories about his dl activities!
ReplyDeleteI was just going to say the same thing! It has always been whispered about town that Quincy likes young white men.
Delete@timebob, I couldn't agree with you more. I think it is "precious" for someone who has only known privilege her entire life to joke about how others should live their lives.
ReplyDeleteShe needs to sit her ass down !he will come out on his own terms!why does she feel it's her business to tell him to do it.if this was a private conversation between him and her then I would be ok with it' but can you imagine waking up and seeing this shit all over the news ! Not cool! Why doesn't she come out as ugly or tell some of her ferns to come out as coke heads!
ReplyDeleteit was Bret Easton Ellis who said gays can't play straight...and considering his low budget movie is being shot right now with a porn star and Lilo...he can STFU.
ReplyDeleteLooks like she regrets that statement. From her twitter: "Made a thoughtless comment about John Travolta. I sincerely apologize. Nobody's personal life is my business."
ReplyDeleteI know it is only a fantasy, but I often wonder what the world would be like now if Travolta had come out during his Saturday Night Fever/Grease/Urban Cowboy days. He was the IT boy at the time and society was grudgingly starting to realize that gays weren't monsters. It's not like his career went any better by staying in the closet at that time. Then of course, AIDS came along and then society went back to hating gays.
ReplyDeleteInteresting that Rashida would say this...when is she going to talk about the rumors regarding her dad, Dre & 2Pac? Locomotive Mouth Hussy.
ReplyDeleteFor others , here's the link Jax is referring to:

I have a personal "intense dislike" of BEE so read for yourself what a POS he truly is.
She is beautiful. On one had I agree it's his business but on the other hand... She has got a pair of brass balls and I would willingly shine them. Good on her for atleast bringing up CO$ in a interview.
ReplyDeleteSort of OT- I adopted a 2 year old kitten named Shelly as my homage to Shelly Miscavage, she was at the adoption place for 4 weeks and it made me think of the real Shelly being locked up out there somewhere. Now I need to go hug my kitty...
Amended because she didn't as agent it has said. Sorry. No of her bizz as y'all have said.
DeleteRIP, Ron Pallilo. He was 63 and died of a heart attack.
ReplyDeleteBorn-into-wealth Rashida should mind her own business. She didn't say anything against COS probably because her uncle, actor Robert Lipton, is a Scientologist.
LOL smash - that's super fantastic. I bet explaining that to people is going to go well! :)
ReplyDeleteIf Enty ever has shirts made for the site they should just be solid black with white courier font and read: "Where's Shelly?"
I started to say something to the people while I was adopting her but I thought they might think I was nuts. So I just said I had read a lot about a lady named shelly who I had sympathy for. She happily runs around my house chasing feathers. Hopefully Someday the real Shelly can be free! Free Shelly!!
DeleteFeel free to slam Bret Easton Ellis. Everything of his since Less Than Zero has been shit, and even that was successful because it was topical, not because the writing was notable. He's the novelist equivalent of a shock jock.
ReplyDelete@CarolMR- I didn't know that!
ReplyDeleteI just spent 15 minutes online searching for who makes Rashida's stunning dress. It's made by Thakoon Addition, but not available for purchase online. Not that I could afford to pay $500 - $800 for one of their dresses, but maybe someone will knock it off soon :)
ReplyDeleteyeah, i think she talked too much, calling out John Travolta like that :T
ReplyDelete@smashbash/smashbox;)Hugs to kitty Shelly.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I personally think it's a little tasteless that she said that, I don't necessarily agree with ir being taboo for people to state he is, or may be, gay. When someone is a celebrity oftentimes they are also histrionic ("look at me" taken to extremes by L. Lohan who I REALLY CANNOT STAND) and Johnny T is no exception. He wants to publically sell one image/ideal self (because, apparently, COS means you'll never be inhappy again) while living a complete opposite one. Although times *have* changed I would speculate JT is really unable to gauge that. The guy's been in showbiz a long time before bi/homosexuality was much more accepting than now.
ReplyDeleteIf anyone recalls the one John Doe complaint filed against JT, it is also mentioned about how John started engaging in sex with men around WBK (per JT). The passing of one of his costars who had a male partner makes me think there's accuracy in that statement (not that gay is catching or anything like that, but perhaps he was able to engage in some kind of relationship with costars and/others that were also attempting to keep quiet about their sexuality). I don't know, just a thought.
That being said, if he is attempting sexual assault on ANYONE there's no wiggle room to make excuses. That is predatory. I love JT and in a wierd way I kinda hope the guys are not being truthful because if he is truly behaving like that he needs to be held accountable for traumatizing other individuals.
I do give privacy pass to stars' offspring that are not actively seeking the spotlight. Jett's death was horribly tragic. I know how much it devastated my parents when my brother passed away at 32. I'd never in life want to experience that and I still feel so much for that family, even with the new baby. In his statement to police when Jett died John stated Jett was autistic, so on some (thetan) level I think he recognizes that Jett did indeed have issues like that or else he wouldn't have willingly released the info to police. Just my own take.
And, incidentally (and this has always driven me a littke crazy) when Hubbard died, there's so much talk about his autopsy testing positive for psychiatric drugs. I don't recall all of his meds, but Vistaril (hydroxyzine) is what what found. That medication, though prescribed for anxiety, is really an antihistamine. Basically Benedryl. It's not a benzodiazapine or a central nervous system depressant. Usually it's really only rx for anxiety, though, and recognizing anxiety would fly in the fce of COS.
Everyone telling her to mind her own business sure love being hypocrites since the fact we're on this site, WE'RE NOT MINDING OUR OWN FUCKING BUSINESSES
ReplyDeleteGod I love her.
ReplyDeleteYeah and it only took Rashida 10 YEARS to get as famous as Nicole Richie.
ReplyDelete
