ReplyDeleteIs it me or has DJing become one of the world's most obsolete jobs? I was in Macys this weekend and there was a DJ there. Basically the dude was sitting at a table while an Ipod played the tunes. I guess he selected the songs. Got me thinking that DJs are on there way out. At least the Cruise kid is trying to work, but maybe he should rethink his profession of choice.

Why the hell is DJ a profession? Seriously, just plug in an iPod and save the money. DJs may make the playlist, but really, isn't that just a glorified version of the now-obsolete radio station program director? Since computers pick the songs for the radio now, can't they do the same for these clubs? Way too loud? Check Throbbing bass in every song? Check Does the song sound like it was made on an old Casio Keyboard with a a drum machine effect in the background? Check

I lived in FL until just a few months ago and let me tell you, people go surfing during hurricanes! Surfers love the bigger waves! Also, some people who decide not to leave their homes will "hunker down" and have hurricane parties, which consists of getting in lots of beer, wine, etc and just hanging out and making the best of it. I don't speak for the whole state, of course, but I know a lot of people who lived in beach towns who would refuse to leave despite an evac order and just party.

In Macys, I was cracking up because there was the DJ playing Lady Gaga and other current dancy-poppy songs with the bass booming at full throttle, but at the same time Macys was still playing its Muzak. So, like Celine Dion was merging with Flo Rida and it was so freakin' annoying. Not to mention that nothing I tried on worked, which is why I always end up buying crazy shoes and NOTHING else when I go to Macys. That department store blows, and since I live in the South Jersey sticks, it's all I got. Grrrr.
