Rachel Zoe Empire Collapsing
Despite having a Bravo show and celebrity clients and her face in the tabloids every week, no one is buying Rachel Zoe's clothes. Apparently the demand for clothing for people who wanted to look like Mrs. Roper or relive the Summer Of Love is not that strong. Huh. Who would have thunk it. Also, her latest season of her show did not go that great and according to The NY Post, the show might not get renewed for another season which means that Rachel would probably have to go back to styling clients which is not as much fun or as much money generating as having your own line. No fear though if you love Jeremiah Brent. He is getting his own show on the network.
She has horrible taste - i don't know how she got a show to begin with! Another Famewhore!
ReplyDeleteNever liked her style and shes not very nice
ReplyDeleteShe seems like someone who is likely to go bankrupt -- expensive taste and no income.
ReplyDeleteThere was an article in Kneepads, I think, featuring her hilariously dressed son. He was wearing harem pants, which she described as "very French." Poor kid. She even said that it was his own personal taste.
Hallelujah! This scrag is disgusting, tasteless, moronic and ugly. She also has an eating disorder and it is wrong to make that seem 'stylish' or normal and trendy. Maybe KK can hire her?
ReplyDeleteI thought it was odd she was renting that huge house on Bravo. It took a few episodes for that to come out.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand the point in being so thin if you're just going to drape yourself up with bedsheets.
ReplyDeleteI'd heard good things about the quality of her merchandise, but her style isn't my thing. It often felt like more of the same to me.
ReplyDeleteI liked Brad Goreski, Joey and Jeremiah on her show. They were actually rather down to earth juxtaposed to everyone else on her show.
She'll be fine going back to focusing on her job as stylist. Hopefully there'll be more time for her to spend with her baby too.
Yeah, I fear for that kid's mental health. Why doesn't her husband step in and say hey missy, kids need to wear normal clothes that they can get dirty in and tear up. These people that spend a lot of money on clothes for their kids are stupid. Beyond the fact that they are going to get ruined, kids outgrow them so quickly that it's ridiculous. And her kid's what, just over one? He has no personal taste yet.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I concur with Enty's description of her "fashion" line. I've never seen that desiccated raison wear anything I'd be caught dead wearing.
If I'm going to spend that much money on clothes I'm going to buy REAL designer clothing, not Rachel Zoe clothing. She should have gone the Jessica Simpson way. Design affordable clothes from a"real stylist" perspective. High end clothing from Zoe is not what, I want....
ReplyDeletewhat @ljsmed said.
ReplyDeleteI think Bravo cancelling her show would be a good thing. She is a horrible role model for young women. She obviously has a lot of body image issues.
ReplyDeletewow. all the rachel zoe hate. calling her a raisin, etc. I think it is just clear misogyny.
ReplyDeleteI don't like her every day stuff personally, but the woman has magnificent taste in evening gowns and 'oscar' wear. I'm not talking her line, which I haven't seen, but what she chooses as a stylist. when anne hathaway hosted the oscars, rachel zoe styled her and the gowns, for the most part, were magnificent.
and whether or not any readers of cdan like her stuff, the fact is that she is accepted and respected by the real big designers in the US and france.
she probably just strayed from what she is good at - which is styling - and over estimated how successful her line would be. it happens all the time in company after company.
but there's no reason to hate the woman. she wasn't born into the biz, but she worked very hard to get where she is. give her a break.
I like some of her clothing- there was a white suit I would die for.
ReplyDeleteThe problem is the price. If I have 300 bucks to spend on clothes, I'm going on eBay and picking up a Vivienne Westwood dress, some Michael Kors boots, and bits and pieces from BCBG. Makes more sense to me.
Annabella, the woman looks like a dried-up raisin. That's a fact. If she would let herself gain a few pounds, stop overtanning, moisturize and wear less makeup, she'd look infinitely better.
ReplyDeleteMisogyny is the hatred of all women. Making cracks about The Zoe doesn't make me, or anyone else, a misogynist.
I agree about these NOT being misogynist comments.
ReplyDeleteHer style never evolves, that is why her business is failing.
I wasn't impressed by the quality of her clothes especially for the $$ she was asking. They should have been at a much lower price point. I think she was really banking on the audience of the show to buy her clothes.
ReplyDeleteljsmed - I concur! :)
ReplyDeleteIs that...a Snuggie???
ReplyDelete@annabella
ReplyDeleteGet a dictionary! Here is the online definition of misogyny:
noun
hatred, dislike, or mistrust of women.
I'm so sick of people throwing around words they obviously don't understand.
These posts are about a "specific" woman and what she is selling.
Some of the clothes in her line are gorgeous and I've almost bought a thing or two, but I could never justify the price. HOWEVER, the clothes she puts on her body are usually horrendous, mostly because she is so painfully thin and she wears clothes to cover up her protruding bones (and that's not just my opinion, one of the episodes had her dressing for some event and Brad and Joey kept telling her she had to change because you could see her clavicle or ribs sticking out).
ReplyDeleteHer show last season absolutely SUCKED because all she did the entire time was complain about how she can't decide if she wants to try to have a baby and if she is ready to step back from her business a little bit to do that, with her husband bitching about the same thing and how Rachel has to let go and let other people run the show sometimes. Every f'ing episode she was complaining about the same thing. No one will watch that shit again. Brad made the first season. Now that he's gone they've got nothing.
Not surprised...
ReplyDeleteI liked her bootline on Piperlime but that's about it. Her Bravo show was just boring to me.
ReplyDeleteMaja, hilarious. I can't stop laughing today. She looks like she is going to fly away,"The Flying Zoe".
ReplyDeleteIs this look from the Mrs. Roper collection?
ReplyDeleteHer whole schtick is to be offensively nonchalant and "in yer face" with the rudeness. So I don't think you can fault people for being offended by her foolishness, can you?
ReplyDeleteSome of the style was interesting, but only for purposes of being photographed on red carpets. She has no eye for clothing in real life, and I think if she had wise management, they would have told her to stick with dressing models and actresses for events.
If I remember correctly, most of the girls she styled (Nicole Richie, Blohan and Mischa Barton) ended up pretty cracked out trying to get skinny enough for her aesthetic. Probably couldn't happen to a nicer gal.
ReplyDeleteI thought some of her collection pieces were fab, but there's no way in hell I'm paying that kinda dough for 1 piece of clothing or shoes. I do rock high end bags because I feel like they can go the distance for the money you put in, but when it comes to clothes I'm all about the bargains.
ReplyDeleteWhile I do not wish Rachel Zoe any demise, she did irk me when watching her Bravo show, particularly the final season. She comes off as someone who does not appreciate it all she has. And quite honestly, while watching, more times than not I was thinking/saying aloud to no one, "Just show me the clothes, Rachel. Stop your vapid no-emotion yet over-emotional discussions about shoes and dresses. It's not like you're curing cancer or ending violence in the Middle East. Get over yourself."
RZP is not must-watch Bravo TV for moi. Now Jersey Housewives. That's a different story.
For what it's worth, I thought Brad's spinoff sucked ass, too. My beef with both Brad and Rachel is that they are really snarky and self-absorbed. I just want a show with good clothes, damn it.
Yeah Susan you go! Haha. I didn't like Brad's show either. Too many tears!
ReplyDeleteI just want a show with good clothes, damn it too!! Although it's still early, Project Runway is bumming me out this season.
Surprised no one's mentioned her crackly peroxided mop of hair. Blech, SO unattractive in every way!
ReplyDeleteSurprised no one's mentioned her crackly peroxided mop of hair. Blech, SO unattractive in every way!
ReplyDeleteFiggy, I believe you just did!
ReplyDeleteI agree -- thank you figgy!
ReplyDeleteI'm with Susan -- I can't stand these fashion people who act as if picking out clothes is just as important as treating the sick or teaching children. Trick, you choose (sometimes) pretty dresses for self-absorbed twats with eating disorders to wear on red carpets. You are not changing the world.
ReplyDeleteI'd also like to add that I love all the jewels and crazy-ass rings Rachel Zoe rocks. I also thought she wore some cool blazers and shoes. Her hair-in-the-face look annoys. I feel like she has low self esteem or something, so she hides behind a mop of hair and heavy makeup. And, obvi, her long drapey too-big clothes are due to body issues. I love her No. 1 gay Joey. I wish Joey lived with me. Actually, I wish Tim Gunn, Isaac Mizrahi and Joey could be my in-house gaggle of gays. A girl can dream. Off to cook dinner....
ReplyDeleteLOL @ Mrs Roper reference.
ReplyDeleteIt pains me to see an adult use the word "like" as much as she does. My 14 year-old niece doesn't abuse the word as much as Rachel does.
Her show isn't even on this season as far as I know (and Brad's sh ow utterly SUCKED) and Bravo is so hard up for programming that hey are airing "Top Chef Texas" reruns today. But consider this: Now that she has a kid, we have a new coke mom.
Her email was interesting before she spawned. Then she started sending baby stuff. Boring. Not impressed with her line at all.
ReplyDeleteAudra Lindley is rolling in her grave right now
ReplyDeleteStanley Roper really did not like to fuck his wife.
ReplyDelete@Beth-oh man, I hate it when celebs dress their kids in super-expensive, over-the-top outfits and then claim it was the kid's choice. Especially when the kid is all of one or two years old. Gwen Stefani has been doing this forever.
ReplyDeleteI'm not surprised Rachel's line is not doing well. Is Nicole Richie's clothing line selling? They both dress very oddly IMO. Two very skinny girls dressing in huge muumuus with garish prints. It isn't cute.
I remember there was a blind way back where some celebrity threw a hissy fit on an airplane because they didn't have any green beans left and that's all she would eat. Supposedly it was Rachel.
Good for Jeremiah. Zoe and crew were a-holes to him last season.
ReplyDeleteGood for Jeremiah. Zoe and crew were a-holes to him last season.
ReplyDeleteI have watched her show and what annoyed me the most about her was the way she talked, almost like a Valley Girl or something. And yeah, everyone on the show constantly whined about everything. Come to think about it they kind of all sounded like Valley Girls.
ReplyDeleteI think she dressed some of her celeb clients very nicely but dressed herself like Penny Lane.
"as much money generating"
ReplyDeleteShiiiiiiiiit.
I love her clothes. Yes, it is mysoginy. Stop telling women to "eat something" or saying they're "dried up". It's hateful. It just is.
ReplyDeleteDid y'all know Brad G's long time partner is a writer on Family Guy? Love it!
ReplyDeleteI didn't think she'd be back when they gave Brad Goreski his own show right after hers.
ReplyDeleteShe doesn't seem like a very good business person and is so super dramatic it can't be good for her. Her clothes are beautiful but I could never afford them.
Yay Jeremiah--he was very cute and RZ and company treated him pretty poorly on the last season. Nice to hear he's getting his own deal.
in a relatively recent issue of glamour, rz did mention it was crazy how much she spent on clothes for her son stating what money of you said about them growing out of it. she bascially attributed her behavior to mom with her first child going crazy w/the shopping. I'm sure many first time parents can relate to going overboard if not for the clothes (which is her thing) but in some other way. rz is not my fave person, but on that issue I'll let her slide. as for her clothing line she started off selling clothes on either qvc/hsn can't rember which and then branched into more high end. she was aiming for the tory burch mid high end as market research does show there is a gap there in terms of products for that market. as far as i know i heard the quality wasn't that great on her high end (this according to what i saw about reviews at the SFA and nordstrom websties.)low end got pretty good reviews by buyers on the shopping channel site
ReplyDeleteEnty dont you think she gets a% of the revenue from all the spin-off shows? COME ON.
ReplyDeleteFor those saying that she is respected in "the industry" -- one of her nicknames in the fashion world is "Rachel So-So"
ReplyDeleteA very easy to dislike individual, that Rachel Zoe
ReplyDeleteI love Rachel Zoe, she brought to the mainstream public the stylists work plus in her series you get to see amazing fashion.
ReplyDeletesome pieces of her line are pretty nice (no I havent bought any, there arent any were I live and Im probably too cheap anyway)
the Karolina Kurkova in Rachel Zoe moment at the Met Gala this last edition was very memorable:
http://www.redcarpet-fashionawards.com/2012/05/08/karolina-kurkova-in-rachel-zoe-2012-met-gala/
I actually bought a Rachel Zoe silver leaf cuff bracelet that I love, but it weighs a ton (probably as much as Rachel !) and it clanks against my wrist from the weight.
ReplyDeleteIt actually hurts to wear it all day! It is pretty and unique though.
But that's jewelry , most of her clothes are not for me. AND as everyone mentioned, too expensive.
