National Enquirer Blind Item

Which aging diva turned down performing at the Queen of England’s Diamond Jubilee in London because British officials would only pay for her hotel and airfare but balked at her demand for an exorbitant performance fee? The notorious cheapskate didn’t even RSVP to the queen’s invitation, so they settled for Grace Jones instead.

  1. Barbara.
Bette performed for the queen 2 years ago.
I don't think anyone is asking Liza to perform.

  2. You don't settle for Grace Jones. Grace Jones settles for you.

  3. Madonna, since she lives in the UK and thinks she's British.

  4. My first guess was Madonna, but then after a little google research, my new guess is Celine.

  5. I think it is Celine, too.

  7. I had been thinking Aretha Franklin, since she's known for not paying her taxes...

  8. I was going to say Shirley Bassey, but she actually did perform!

  9. Elton did perform at the Queen's Jubilee. Madonna doesn't live full time in the UK since her divorce. I like the Aretha Franklin and Celine Dion guesses so far.

  10. Is Celine a cheapo?

    "Aging Diva" = Diana Ross

  11. Nooooo! Celine is Amazing!!!

  12. Barbra or Diana

Cher and Madonna both live in the UK, or spend a lot of time there and have homes. The other two, not so much.

  14. I'm with eris hilton, Grace Jones is a fucking goddess and they are lucky to have had her!!

  15. I was thinking Julie Andrews...

  16. You would think it would be somebody from the UK or the Commonwealth. but didn't Stevie Wonder appear? So it could be anybody. But other than Stevie Wonder the other performers that night were British.

  17. Why should the diva perform for free?

  18. One does not "settle" for Grace Jones!

@Eris Hilton - glad to see we agree.

  19. A: I don't think Julie Andrews can sing anymore because of some throat surgery.

B: I can't imagine Julie Andrews turning down something like this if she were invited, even if she had to pay her own way.

  20. Grace Jones rocked it!

No clue on who passed up an opportunity to play for a world wide audience.

  21. I was thinking Diana Ross all the way through.

  22. This screams Aretha Franklin

  23. It was Diana Ross, who Charlie-boy STILL has a crush on after all these years.

And yeah, Grace Jones was actually a major upgrade, and her act is what most people remember about the show.

  24. ...not lisa with an s ..

  25. I think it's Beyonce

  26. hmax17: Julie Andrews lost her voice due to surgery and sued for malpractice. They settled the lawsuit. Sad that she was misdiagnosed in the first place.

Diana Ross as the aging Diva. She also turned down Tyler Perry so this seems like something that old trick would do.

  27. No, they would have asked someone from the Commonwealth (this is a U.K. celebration after all) - so someone from Britain, Canada or Australia.

If Julie Andrews could still sing (she can't) would have done it for free because she has class. *sniff* So I bet it's someone like Celine.

  28. What eris said. Great name, btw.

  29. I thought Babs only because of the notirously cheap comment. I don't know any of the others notorious for being cheap-divaish yet, but not necessarily cheap like Babs.

  30. whenever I hear diva I immediately think Mariah. depends on what we consider 'aging'. I'd say she is...

It wouldn't necessarily be someone from the Commonwealth. Stevie Wonder and William (I refuse to refer to him as will i am) both performed.

  32. Kim Zolciak, FTW!

  33. Prince Charles is a huge fan of Barbra Streisand so it could be her.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Aretha Franklin won't fly and Barbra is notorious for being "thrifty".

  35. it sounds like the british officials are the notorious cheapskates. expecting a potentially non-british diva to perform for hotel and airfare only?

who worships a monarchy in the 21st century anyway?

    ReplyDelete
  36. This isn't Diana Ross as she isn't known for being a notorious cheapskate.

And the reason why she turned down Tyler Perry is because like many Black women of a certain age, my grandmother included, she finds his work a bit demeaning and coonish.

  37. Why would a non-British person perform for free for the Queen of England? I wouldn't do it. Screw royalty.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I think it's Vadge or Babs. Both of them are notoriously cheap.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Totally Elton John.
