Melissa McCarthy & Billy Gardell Are The Cybill Shepherd & Bruce Willis Of Today

According to The National Enquirer, Billy Gardell, who plays Mike on Mike & Molly is having some issues with Melissa McCarthy who plays Molly. Apparently he doesn't like her and thinks that she is getting a really big head. I think a lot of it is jealousy. She keeps getting a bunch of attention and award nominations and Billy is that guy who is on that sitcom who used to play a guy on another sitcom and pretty much wore the same thing. Wasn't he on Yes Dear playing a security guard? Yeah. So, different uniform and he gets a whole show to himself, but it's basically the same thing. Melissa is one of those rare stars who comes around pretty rarely but she seems pretty down to earth and I think the pair probably get along better than the article would lead you to believe.

  1. For what its worth, Billy Gardell is pretty famous in Pittsburgh and calls into one of the local radio stations every Wednesday morning at 9 (which would be 6am LA time) and even tho the radio DJ's told him he could call in later and they could just air the interview the next day, he refuses. People here in PGH love him. He seems very down to earth whenever i hear him on the radio and seems to really enjoy and appreciate the opportunities he has had.

  2. It's just jealousy. Just like Shepard getting jealous of Willis.

  5. Best part of 'Moonlighting' was hearing Al Jarreau singing the them song.

I think this is BS. Billy's interview on Jay Leno:

  7. Sometimes personalities just clash, doesn't have to be a good guy or a bad guy. You don't always have to like everyone!

Me too! There's only a handful of comedies I like (Modern Family, Up all Night and Happy Endings) but this one is pretty cute too. Billy's mom on the show is a riot. Maybe I will dvr it :)
Aren't you the reader that started taking classes? If so, hope they're going well and you are enjoying :)

  11. I call bullshit on the Enquirer story, too. I'm pretty sure both Billy Gardell and Melissa McCarthy are grounded enough to not let temporary accolades turn them into insecure brats. If anything, the story was built on some passing comment that was blown into a bigger deal than it is.
By the way, Billy Gardell also played a police officer on My Name Is Earl.

  12. I've never watched this show. Is it mostly fat jokes or is it actually good?

    1. It's a good show. More relationship, family type situations that most people can probably relate too than fat jokes.

  13. As opposed to those rare stars that come around pretty frequently?

  14. I like Billy quite a bit and I am having a hard time believing this story. I've heard him "off camera" and he seems pretty cool. Maybe Melissa DOES have a little bit of a big head? It could be a misunderstanding, though. God only knows if the network (and her agent) is trying to squeeze juice out of their little gem now that she's famous. They may be doing things that are aggravating to the crew. That wouldn't be unusual.

  15. The only time I thought Yes, Dear was funny was when he was on and I like her too so this better be rumor.

Can I tell my Cybil S story now? Well I'm going to anyway. The art teacher I had all thru high school worked back in the day w/ Andy Warhol. He mainly helped him out on photo shoots as an assistant. Cybil was a big shoot for them. And he told us that she was the biggest Bi-otch that ever lived! Even way back then before Moonlighting. This was right after her beauty queen days n right around Taxi driver. He told us she treated Andy and all the help like slaves. Nothing was good enuf. She hated the lighting and the makeup and even the tea they gave her. He said he had never and never seen again anyone treat Andy that way. Yeah that was the last of her in the studio. He had so many cool stories to share. Only reason he didn't stay in NYC and persue his own photography career was because his parents got sick and someone had to go back home to help take care of them. Great guy and great teacher. (Sorry this was long and OT)

Good luck! I am almost 40 and still regret dropping out of college. I am pretty much done with my General Ed, but I was doing a little too much dabbling (wink wink) in college and got overwhelmed. You're awesome for doing this now!!

  24. I loved this show from the first time and Melissa McCarthy especially. I thought she was totally destined for greatness. I also think these two have been around long enough and struggled enough to NOT let fame go to their heads. But like someone pointed out earlier, people do have personality conflicts. I just believe this is made up.We know that other mag will do that from time to time.

  26. @ AuntJess

In other words she's EXACTLY like her character Jacy Farrow in The Last Picture Show.

I think she only got that part because she was basically playing herself AND she was willing to bang Peter Bogdanovich.

I've heard at least 5 or 6 behind the scenes stories about Cybill and they are all the same. She is one impossible biotch.

Loved the story! It's pretty much what everyone says about Cybill Shepard.

    I still love Moonlighting though.

  28. Thanks guys! For 2 years I got to spend 6 hours a week with someone who helped produce the Campbells Soup project. Mr D really was that great, here's a direct quote "Yes, there was drugs. And yes, they were done. It was Studio 54, what do you THINK happened?"

  33. I can't stand Melissa McCarthy. I don't think she is funny or clever at all. She rips off a lot of people and styles and says random things that aren't funny but gets a laugh anyway because she is the token fat chick. She gotten even more massive since Bridesmaids. I don't mean to rain on others parade's if they really like her, but I think she is the worst and most vile beast.
