Your Turn

Demi Lovato wore this outfit to the Teen Choice Awards. Appropriate or not for the occasion? I feel like kids see a whole lot worse everyday on their friend's Facebook profiles, but still, side boob at an event geared to the 12-13 year old crowd might be a bit much.

  1. Forget the side boob. Is that a nip I see?

  2. No nip

    Not TOO trashy

    O k

  3. Maybe she was hoping the side boob would distract from that horrible dress and bad hair?

  4. Yeah, that's a little more than side boob. Honestly, when you act in children/tween movies, you're a role model, whether you like the title or not. (Yes, our children should be taught that singers and actors are not acceptable role models.) I don't think this was appropriate.

  5. Compared to what everyone else wore, it seemed a bit over the top.

  6. I wouldn't wear it but I bet all my fashionista friends would jump at a chance to wear it. Demi looks quite pretty tho with her hair pulled back!

  7. That might be nip. I'm sure the dress was short as well.

I had the show on briefly and there was a joke with a pair of thongs being given to Jordin Sparks, who was a presenter, by male presenter. I didn't find that appropriate either.

  8. Ummm... who exactly is she and why is she famous?

  9. Guys, I cannot believe I'm about to admit this, but I watched the Teen Choice Awards and she was shot straight-on the whole time she was in the dress, arms usually by her side. So if I'd never seen this pic, I'd have no idea there was mesh paneling in her dress. So a bit risque? Maybe. With that being said, after watching the show, all I could really notice was that Demi looked so healthy and happy. It looks like she's finally starting to clean up and get her shit together (!!!! Awesome!!!)

  10. Serious. Kids have been come so oversexulalized it blows my fucking mind. I didn't look at the picture until clicking the link, holy side boob and more. Not appropriate. But there are also tons of other girls there that night with crotch length clothes. I now realize why my mom shut the TV off from us kids at the age of 9
And younger until we were into out late teens, shit like this is everywhere. Spongebob even has some off colored and raunchy humor every now and again.

  12. she has horrible styling always

  13. I thought that was Christina Millian not Demi. Oops.

  14. I'm the mother to a teen daughter, and I'm here to tell you that it's hard to keep the kids appropriate now. Even on kids shows the girls are dressed sort of sexy, then you have girls like Bella Thorne that dress like hookers to these events or in pap photos.
If you go to any store that sells teen clothing the shorts are cut to the ass cheek, even sometimes for the girls in children's sizes. Even good girls think you're just being silly when they're told it's not appropriate.

Inappropriate for the audience, but also extremely ugly. Yuck!

  16. not any more offensive than having those kardashian people and hilton sisters at a nick's kids choice awards. that was the last one i let my tween watch. i don't like having to explain to my kid why certain people are famous for infamous behaviour. makes me grumpy./rantover/ i'm sorry, but i feel better now.

  17. I don't have a problem with it. It was teen choice, not the kids choice one right? And I have a teenage daughter. She would just roll her eyes at that dress. It starts at home people.

    ReplyDelete
  18. @Sarah is right. Kids today are dressing much more inappropriate than they used to (wow, I sound like an angry old woman on my porch). I don't condone it - but I doubt the kids cared one way or another. The parents, sure. But the kids, probably didn't even notice...

  19. By the time I was a teenager, I'd already long-claimed The Rocky Horror Picture Show as my favorite movie, so I never would've batted an eyelash at this.

If the question is whether or not I think it's fug, I'm going to err on the side of FUG.

  20. She looks like a Native American Transformer.

    ReplyDelete
  21. @ Donner - I am the angry old woman on my porch, that dress is simply tacky, tacky and ugly. Who dressed her was obviously high..and not just on life..

    ReplyDelete
  22. That outfit is hideous, and so is she. I'm sorry, I can't stand her.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I would've loved sideboob at 12-13.

    But that dress is ugly.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Yeah, the fact that I can see part of her nipple def makes it inappropriate for the kiddies.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Wouldn't that actually be an areola slip?

    ReplyDelete
  26. I wouldn't wear it for the reason that it doesn't do her any justice. She looks flat chested and accentuates just how tiny her bobbies are relative to her hips. I have a similar body and would never wear a dress cut like that. She needs a new stylist, friends, and F-buddies.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Its fine except for side boobie thing

    ReplyDelete
  28. Tacky.

My almost 11 yo was complaining about the "trashy" clothes in PacSun. She asked, Ma, why don't they sell surf shirts and board shorts for girls any more?

Good question. Maybe that's why they're bankrupt.

Kid's got a lot of sense. She dresses very conservatively.

    ReplyDelete
  29. areola at the TEEN choice awards. It's not the dirty old man awards, or the Adult Video Awards, or even the Oscars or Grammys. It's for teens. In this case, I have an 18 year old who is too old to be interested in the TEEN choice awards and a 12 year old who watched the whole thing. So even though it's called the TEEN Choice awards, I think older teens who can handle areola slip aren't interested.

So yeah. inappropriate for sure but you can't help but feel sorry for this girl for not realizing it.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Oh noes! The Illuminati brainwashing is complete!

    ReplyDelete
  31. The areola was definitely inappropriate, but what bothers me even more about this outfit is the hypocrisy. She has been very public with her body image issues, so I would think that her, of all people, would realize that young girls who look up to her would see her in this outfit and think that they had to look like that too. I'm not saying that she should wear a burlap sack around, but I'm saying she could find the happy medium in between the two.

    ReplyDelete
  32. i saw many pics from the event and i didn't even realize that she had some mesh on there. I think it is a litltle risque, but i think that it wasn't even really seen since they weren't shooting her to show her siddeboob.

    ReplyDelete
  33. The bottom line is in this day and age, trashiness rules the roost. Shit. Have you seen what girls wear to the prom? The whorification of girls baffles my brains. And I agree with whoever said that the presence of Paris Hilton and Kartrashians at a teen awards show is equally or more horrifying. I mean these are women who are famous for SEX TAPES.

  34. I was a longtime Demi Lovato hater. Didn't see her career going anywhere. Loathed her style, her neediness. Now, because I'm a Britney fanatic, I find that I must ... must stop. I don't know if I can ever love her, though. This Sideshow Boob thing, however, um, no.

    ReplyDelete
  35. That dress should be burned regardless of its intended occasion.

  36. I've been ranting about Disney channel to anyone who listens lately. My daughter will be 13 in October and as a small child watched the morning Disney, so I saw the commercials for the older kids programming. This weekend She had Disney on and apart from two shows, the rest is, in my opinion, so beyond the targeted age range. I do not want my child watching shit where the kids are rude, mouthy and it's encouraged nor do I want her dressing slutty. Thankfully she loathes the Mylie, demi, gomez, et al. Still, the commercials are horrid enough, anorexic, heavily made up barely teens? meh.

I am afraid to see what the other channels (Nick) have.

@Susan, hit JC Penney last month for my 14 yr old niece and the prom dresses...er...bibs were so ridiculously short. My bathtowel covers more skin.

    ReplyDelete
  37. It's not so bad. It's the middle of summer and I see girls younger then her practically wearing nothing to malls. I'm more offended by her stupid J-Lo copycat hair.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Inappropriate AND ugly.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Generically is the dress inappropriate I would have to say no.

As seen on Demi I would have to say I am not sure. Is that dark spot part of her aureole or is it a visual artifact arising out of the mesh, the splotchiness of her skin, and the way the image was processed?

I tend to fall on the side that this is an artifact. I think her handlers or who ever dresses her would have interceded to either adjust and tape down the top.

  40. Now that I think about it, should we really be concerned with teenagers seeing a little side boob? Why is the human body so taboo, yet violence is so pervasive in our media. Maybe the teen pregnancy rate would decrease if we didn't make the human body out to be such a taboo thing. You know how kids are motivated to do what they are told not to.

    ReplyDelete
  41. She looks ridiculous, but teens wear way worse stuff than that. She's just trying waaaay to hard to be edgy.

I agree with those that are more offended by her hair. It looks like she snatched SJP's tail and glued it to her head.

    ReplyDelete
  42. For some reason this doesn't bother me. But that chick from Modern Family who plays the younger Dunphy daughter, the way she dresses at these events is inappropriate and she's like 13!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I would say that's a great get-up...for the MTV Awards. Not the AMA, ABC wouldn't know what to do with a possible wardrobe malfunction.

    ReplyDelete
  44. @YourNameHere, Ariel Winter is 14 1/2.

I haven't seen her at any red carpet type events, but my little one had an Instagram pic of her in a bikini. On a beach, so I didn't have anything to say, except a reminder that pictures online are forever. Just in case.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Still less offensive than the existence of Justin Bieber.

    ReplyDelete
  46. The nana brigade strikes again...

    ReplyDelete
  47. @Astrogirl - LOL - that's what I am called Nana, not granny, grandma, but Nana and perhaps I am getting a tad more conservative as I age, but really honey would you wear that dress? Just wondering..my granddaughters are more Gap girls.

    ReplyDelete
  48. @ redronnie I am too old to wear it. If I was 19 like Demi I would wear it until it fell off me in tatters. I honestly think it is age appropriate though some Hollywood tape would have been helpful. She is at an event, not wearing it to the movies.

I think it's unfair the way some people saddle her with the responsibility of what her young fans wear, that is the role of their parents. If a 9 year old wants the dress Demi is wearing be like my mum was and say when you're her age and have your own money you can buy that dress too.

    ReplyDelete
  49. PS thanks for the LOL, was hoping it will make some of us remember how we used to dress at that age.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I just think it's a shame she's trading in her look of natural beauty for this new I Dream of Jeannie, Vegas stripper vibe.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Awww @Selock beat me to the I Dream of Jeannie hair comment. But the dress to me has more of a Road Warrior Beyond Thunderdome Glam Barbie.

Remember when she was just a funny, talented brunette who could sing too?

    ReplyDelete
  52. LOL, Thunderdome Glam Barbie. Yes!
