Suri/Scout? Cruise/Holmes?
You want to know what makes me think that Suri Cruise is not Tom Cruise's biological child? This whole rumor going around the internet that Katie is going to change Suri's name. First of all, you don't change the first name of a six year old kid from Suri to Scout. I think you should stick with Suri because she can always sue Apple later in life claiming that when they used Siri they were taking her name. Also, who wants to be named after a Bruce Willis/Demi Moore kid? That is just asking for trouble. Yes, I know it is a great character in To Kill A Mockingbird, but go ask 100 fifteen year old kids what they think of first when they hear the name Scout and you will get Scout Willis way more times. The next thing. Changing the name from Cruise to Cruise Holmes. Interesting. This is where I wish Tommy didn't have that huge checkbook because if he was hurting for cash Katie would not have agreed to keep quiet forever. But, as I have said, Suri has not signed anything and I'm hoping she starts talking as soon as she starts going to school. So, if there are any teachers out there who get Suri as a student, make sure she has to write a lot of papers on her family. Oh, and draw a family tree.
Huh? These rumors are nuts.
ReplyDeleteIf she weren't in the spotlight, changing Suri's name would be a good way to get CoS off their trail, but I doubt it would serve that purpose here...
ReplyDeleteThat poor kid is going to be so fucked up
ReplyDeleteIf Katie wants to really piss TC off, change Suri's name to Maria Del Rosa. Something really Catholic.
ReplyDeleteWhy not? Mia Farrow did it. She didn't want her son growing up a BAG
ReplyDeleteI don't have a problem with adding Katie's last name to Suri's. I hate the fact that children don't get their mother's maiden name (when a lot of the time, the woman does most of the work).
ReplyDeleteI gave my youngest my last name. It's dying out...
DeletePilly, yes I think Mia changed his name twice....
ReplyDeleteI like the name Suri, as for Tom being the biological..you must be kidding to even think for a sec that he is.
I agree with Anita...I hate the fact that children don't get their mother's maiden name as well.
ReplyDeleteDepends on what your maiden name is. Mine is "Rose," which is great for girls, but boys are not thrilled with it.
ReplyDeleteWasn't there speculation that "Suri" was inspired by the scientology center in Surrey, England? If that rumor was true, I can see why she would want to change Suri's name. Maybe Scout is a nickname she already responds to.
ReplyDeleteI don't care who the sperm donor is, you don't change a six year old's first name. Leave her the f**k out of this. She is the only innocent one in the whole mess.
ReplyDeleteDittox2
DeleteAnita - I agree with you, but it has been my experience that having several last names can be confusing - one of those things you have to explain to everyone you meet.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty happy with what we did - first kid named in accordance with hubby's family tradition (matching initials thing), second kid has my maiden name for his middle name. And I use my maiden name as my middle name. So kid #1 "matches" his dad and #2 "matches" me. We think it's cool, anyway.
I do think it's kind of weird to rename a 6 year old, but have friends who did something similar w/their kid due to confusion surrounding a nickname and dad's name. Maybe it's something along those lines.
@Henriette, good point. But it's something with which to threaten your sons. That's good parenting, right? I'm not a parent, I don't know these things ;)
ReplyDeleteI don't believe any of this. Tom would never allow it. Katie might have a nickname for Suri, but I doubt she'll try to legally change her name. Why stir the pot when you've already won big-time?
ReplyDeleteDid anyone watch Rock Center last night where they did a portion on Scientology and how hard it is to leave? They interviewed Mike Rinder and Marty Rathburn. They interviewed a cameraman who was hired by the Xenu worshipers to film the harassment because they were trying to get them to react so they could take legal action. The guy quit after two days.
ReplyDeleteBrian Williams said they were deluged with letters and calls to air it last night and I think they're doing another show on it next week.
Oooooo, gits to catch that!! Thanks!!
DeleteWho knows, Katie may have been calling Suri "Scout" all her life as a nickname. so it wouldn't be a big deal to officially change her name.
ReplyDeleteI think she needs to leave the name alone. That's one of those names that if she chooses to be a star, she can just go by her first name and everyone will still know who she is. Like Cher.
ReplyDeleteI've said it before.. I love a good "Harnett/ Klein/ Cruise" daddy conspiracy but it's been pretty clear, to me at least, for the last year or so Suri is REALLY starting to resemble Tom. And she already has his nose. She will have his full blown nose by the time she's an adult if she doesn't have a nose job by then too.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.wowactors.com/2011/05/pictures-of-tom-cruise-childhood.html
I saw it, Elizabeth. And at the end of the segment, Kate Snow said she had just received a few more e-mails, some from Mike Rinder's family, calling him a liar and asking NBC not to run the segment.
ReplyDeleteCOS was pulling out all the stops to try and stop the airing. Glad NBC wasn't intimidated by these people.
Surfer, I'm glad I'm not the only one, I hope they do a special on the weirdness of their Hemet facility with all the cameras and electric fences, where is Shelley Miscaviage, how much money it costs to get to each level only to find out their story is based on alien souls wandering the Earth attaching themselves to non-Xenus, Sea Org and how they've tried to bill tens of thousands of dollars to CHILDREN who want to leave when they turn legal age, so many stories, they could do a whole series.
ReplyDeleteI always find it kind of weird to put the mother's name last, as in "Cruise-Holmes." Why not "Holmes-Cruise," which would be Katie's name had she chosen to do it that way? Rachel on "Friends" did it, too, naming Emma "Emma Geller-Green." It...just seems backwards to me.
ReplyDeleteAnd then, of course, there's Miranda's son Brady Hobbs, who would have been...what? Brady Hobbs-Brady, once she married Steve? I just...don't get it.
But it's just names, I suppose. Whatever.
yes but geller green sounds better than green geller it's all about how your name sounds
DeleteIn Spanish-speaking countries (and maybe Brazil and Portugal, not sure), everyone has 2 last names: the father's and the mother's. The mother's is always 2nd. So Antonio Banderas' daughter is named Stella Banderas-Griffith, not the other way around, for example.
Delete(Miranda from "Sex and the City," I meant.)
ReplyDelete@surfer/elizabeth did you think Kate Snow looked extremely tense at the end of the segment? I wonder what the nature of the email "requests" were.
ReplyDelete@Elizabeth - I was disappointed that they didn't bring up the fact that Shelley was missing (shout-out to Agent*It!) or the fact that this young guy just died, and they not only didn't let his mother know this, but they wouldn't allow her to see his body.
ReplyDeleteTheir behavior is so sickening and depraved; I just wish more outlets would focus on some of their really shady stuff.
I still am a believer that the bio father of Suri is Tom's brother thru in vitro
ReplyDeleteThat report last night was done so poorly. They have no journalists left. CDan readers are more knowledgeable rr co$ than that shoddy reporter. They should ask. Where 's Shelly? In their request to Co$ for info. Or hire Tony Ortega to produce it.?
ReplyDeleteSurfer I love you for that! !!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWelcome back, Agent**it! I think Shelly is a relavtive of David Miscavage, I wish I had seen the report last night!
ReplyDeleteFrom my own personal experience, it is very, very difficult to change your child's name to your maiden name without the consent of the other parent. I tried.
ReplyDeleteThe theory on Shelly is that she made herself disappear because it was the only way to make a clean break from Co$.
ReplyDeleteNot only where is Shelly, but where is their 75 year old COS president? His son just died of an accidental drug overdose (supposedly); he hasn't been seen publicly in years (the president...I cant think of his name).

ReplyDeletethe rumors.....zzzz
ReplyDeleteChanging a kid's name is more than just filling out a form, you have to go to Court and provide the Judge with a logical reason for the change. "Trying to erase my ex-husband from my daughter's life" probably wouldn't go over very well. If Scout has always been a nickname, it can continue to be one.
ReplyDeleteBesides, doesn't matter what her name is, that has no effect on paternity. Little Suri may not understand much now, but when she gets older she will. And she'll probably not be happy when she realizes her mother tried to get Daddy out of her life.
(This comment is assuming that the name change, and reasons behind it, are true).
First of sll, i dont think katie really trying to change name. Adding her last name is no biggie. Second, lets be frank: scout is no better than suri. Thirdly, you may use ir call yourself whatever u wish as long as it isnt for fraudulent purposes. So if she wanted to change the name. U just hv to start calling her scout cruise holmes or whatever the hell they/ she dreams up.
DeleteLong time, first time.
ReplyDeleteI believe she is Tom's child. Do you recall the magazine they were all on when she was born- VF? I think? She looked exactly like Tom. Freakishly like Tom.
My grand-daughter's name is Scout. Long ago when my daughter was a teenager, I gave her, "To Kill a Mockingbird" and she loved it, her first choice was Harper, but Scout defined what she wanted in her daughter's character and yes, my grand-daughter is a spunky, direct, charming little girl. My Scout has seen the movie and I gave her the hard covered book. So far no one has asked if she was named after Scout Willis..
ReplyDeleteIt's pretty crappy to change your child's name after 6 or 7 years. I don't know why so many people think because Tom may not be the sperm donor, Suri isn't legally his. He is her legal father, and has just as much right to her until a judge decides custody.
ReplyDeleteIf she does change Suri's name, I would have to guess that Katie has something major on Tom otherwise he wouldn't allow it.
I hope she will divulge some of COS secrets. They deserve to be shut down and have charges brought against them.
I wonder if this story is being planted by COS to make Katie look bad. I honestly don't believe it--well, maybe adding Holmes to Suri's name is true. But I would expect Suri Holmes Cruise, not Cruise Holmes.
ReplyDeleteWhat I'd really love is for Katie to find someone else, marry him, and have her new husband adopt Suri, changing her name that way. Tom would absolutely freak. :)
"yes but geller green sounds better than green geller it's all about how your name sounds"
ReplyDeleteWell, no, not completely. Some people DO consider things like tradition and what the mother's name might be if she marries the father and takes his name. We were left to assume that Ross and Rachel might have gotten married. If she had hyphenated, she would have been Rachel Green-Geller. And then she'd have a baby with...a completely different last name.
Most people DON'T just consider "it's all about how your name sounds." There are just long-standing cultural reasons for the organization of such things.
okay i'm talking about fictional characters on friends and you're having a seizure calm the fuck down
Deleteand people do consider how a name sounds. go ask your parents if they had any other names for you picked out before you were born and put those names in place with your existing name and you'll see that it probably didn't go very well together and that's why your parents chose the name you have now. i was supposed to be autumn sarah hansen and you think that sounds good? nope that's why they chose jennifer lucille hansen
DeleteCome on people don't buy into the CO$ smear campaign. These are just little nuggets they are going to put out there to make Katie look bad. Like the movie "Molly" about a single mother she wrote and was going to star in. The movie doesn't even exist.
ReplyDeleteShe isn't going to change her name. This is just a planted story by the Psychotologists.
Tom is Suri's father even if he isn't biologically. He is all she has known (I think). To change her name would be cruel but I think this is probably a smear campaign.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I buy this.
ReplyDeleteMia changing her son's name was a bit different, his dad was a serial child molester (of his younger sister) who neglected him, then married his older sister. (Not to mention that he was a bona fide genius who was named Satchel at birth).
ReplyDeleteI'm not team Tom, but I'm pretty sure Suri is his kid. She has something in her eyes/nose/forehead that favor him strongly. If you get photos of them looking right at you you'll see it. I think it was done in a doctor's office but I'm sure she's his.
God, can you imagine when Suri is old enough to read the speculation about her father's life? Ugh.
I think this is just one of those crazy tabloid rumors.. i'll buy that she may call her 'scout' as a nickname but I don't buy the rest..
ReplyDeleteI like that in England having a hyphenated name means your family inherited a boatload of money from some childless uncle or cousin. Like Jane Austen's brother who inherited the Leigh-Perrot money & had to change the family name to Austen-Leigh. Or like Helena Bonham-Carter. Britain, where only the peasants have one last name.
ReplyDeleteThey might as well just take Suri-Scout to freakin rehab right now instead of first grade.
ReplyDeleteThat poor little girl. I don't ever see any expression on her face that isn't mistrustful or unhappy and this is why--there is not one person in her freakin life that hasn't used her as a financial and publicity pinball--using her for some other reason other than being her family.
Everyone needs to declare her--whatever the hell her name is --off limits for a while and leave her alone. Changing her name at six? Tom is her legal father--and he is in her life. Katie had a say in her name and has lived with it for her entire life. If she (and Suri) wants to add her last name as her middle or a hyphenated name, ok, but changing her first name is over the top to me and at this time--the kid needs to know she is ok just the way she is--not that we are changing even more about her and her life.
If Suri hates her name when she is 18, let her change it to what SHE wants.
I hope this is a rumor and if it's true Katie is no better than Tom.
If they change her name I think they should also give the kid her real freaking birthday back too then.
Car54, I about choked on my salad - give the kid her real birthday birthday back. Yes! Just 'fess up and get it out of the way before she starts questioning it herself in her teen years. I hope she can read by then.
ReplyDeleteSuri looks about as much like Cruise as I do. Think of Holmes' other suitors slightly before Tom, please.
ReplyDeleteAs for the name change, parents do it all the time, and it's better done while the child is young. Yeah, Mia Farrow was the best example of this - Satchel to Ronan, Dylan to Malone, etc. Why be reminded of some "father" who was a nutjob/creeper anyway?
I understand Mia's decision, but I wouldn't say that it is something parents do all the time.
ReplyDeleteKatie, I know what picture you are talking about. I think it was the cover of Vanity Fair, and Suri was in a bomber jacket. That picture always made me believe she is Tom's biological child.
Remember right after she was born...well, right after she was supposedly born but in fact quite a while after her actual birth, they named her Suri and claaaaiiiimed that it had some Hindu meaning, and I read some expert on Hinduism somewhere saying "um...no..."
ReplyDeleteRidiculous name. Here's a thought, how about a real name? Like Susan.
If it's a nickname all ready, go ahead and change it. I had a friend that's daughter's name was Ennorah. She always goes by Norah, and the girl asked why they didn't just name her Norah, so they changed it. Also changed their older son's middle name as he shared it with his deadbeat dad. Kept the same initial though.
ReplyDeleteGoogle Tommy Davis Scientoloy. That dude has to be her father.
ReplyDeleteIn To Kill A Mockingbird, Scout's real name is "Louise." I actually like "Harper" better since Harper Lee wrote the book. I won't tell you how many "Atticuss" I teach now.
ReplyDeleteDidn't one of the Willis sisters change their name? I think it was Tallulah.
As far as "character" goes, I know a few Scouts who don't have any! No one is going to get character from a name.
Thank God my mother didn't name me "Daisy" after her favorite novel, The Great Gatsby. I was almost named "Daisy Anne Rose." Could you imagine the horror?
@Henriette,
ReplyDeleteI'm so in love with To Kill a Mockingbird that I love all the names: Atticus, Harper, Scout, and Jem. I think that I can convince my fiance to name our first boy Jeremiah and then nickname him Jem.
Also love the name Jem from the Anne of Green Gables book series, Anne and Gilbert's son.
I don't know if I could name a kid Harper, though, without thinking of Harper Beckham.
@karen
ReplyDelete"Harper" is a VERY popular name in the 18 to 22 range. I can totally tell the trends of names by my students. Anything very unisex is everywhere, such as "Taylor" and "Tyler."
I named my twins "Raphael" and "Gabriel." The name "Raphael" means "God heals" in Hebrew and "Gabriel" means "man of God" or "God's guy." I always liked those names.
As much as I love literature, none of my favorite characters had names I would use for my kids.
@donner If Katie got sole legal custody she doesn't need Toms permission to change Suris name.
ReplyDeletewell, angie and brad changed Pax's name when they got him. And he seems fine...for now.
ReplyDeleteI also remember reading that she was named after L.Ron Hubbord's place of birth, Surrey, England. That could have something to do with the name change.
I thought Holmes and TC chose "Suri" because it was Farsi for "red rose." It's usually spelled "Souri." Actually, "suri" or "sur" means "red" in Farsi and is part of the Zorostian fire dance right before Persian New Year. The first day of spring, March 20. I thought that's why they named her "Suri." Her birthday is around that time too.
ReplyDelete@Henriette, I actually know a girl named Daisy Rose, I always thought it was cute.
ReplyDeleteagain, whether she is biologically Tom's is irrelevant, that is her daddy.
ReplyDeleteScout may be her nickname, I hardly ever call the kids by their given names. I call them by their nicknames 99% of the time unless we're out in public.
My mother always said, that my daughter would grow up to think her name was "God Dammit Alexis"
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen this story anywhere else, but it seems that it would difficult to change a child's name without both parents signing off.
A parent is free to use a nickname for their child...like say Kate for Katie:) So, if she uses Scout instead of Suri, then not much TC can do about it.
if that were Cruise's kid he'd fight to the death for custody, instead he rolled over in 2 weeks. 100% not his child. No way no how.
ReplyDeleteJosh Hartnett, you ARE the father!
The kid is 6 years old and even though I despise Cruise and Co$, Katie should leave her name alone.
ReplyDeleteIn the case of Ronan Farrow, Ronan is his middle name and who wants to be saddle with the name Satchel anyway? Which leads to the next question: Does Suri have a middle name? And is it something normal?
@Redheat, my parents said "Damn't, Michael!" so often that when my dad eventually said, "Damn't!" by itself, my brother said, "What?"
ReplyDelete@Henriette, I love the names Raphael and Gabriel! I'm a fan of the Biblical names.
I actually just love looking at names. I write stories sometimes and I spend more time picking out character names than I do on the plot (which might be why I've never finished anything that I've started).
Oh, and speaking of Atticus as a name, that's what I named my car. Sometimes when I walk up to it, I go, "Hey, Atticus," like Scout does when the mob is trying to go through Atticus to get to Tom Robinson.
When Miley Cyrus was born her parents named her "Destiny Hope". About halfway through her Hannah Montana run, when she was about 14, they finally got around to legally changing it, and they didn't have to give any other reason then "well, Miley's what we've always called her". But of course, both parents were onboard for that. I don't think changing her name at age 6 will be traumatic for Suri, if Scout's something her mother or anyone else has always called her. But if Tom wanted to protest, the courts would take that into account before granting a name-change request. Like others have said, we can speculate on her bio parentage all we wish, but legally he's the dad no matter what.
ReplyDeleteIt's a Power play and nothing to do with the fact that Tom IS the biological father of Suri. My mom tried to do the same thing to me when I was 12 years old and again at 15. I was at an age in which I could protest, Suri is not. This actually happens a lot more often than people think.

ReplyDeleteHe fought for his other two non bio kids, to the point where they do want anything to do with Nicole, their real mother.
ReplyDeleteI don't think this has anything to do with DNA. I think Katie just knows too much about Tom and COS, and he wants to nip that in the bud.
I like the name Suri (although wouldn't use it because of this kid... And Tommy) and I think this story is false.
ReplyDeleteBut speaking of names... I am having a boy and for the life of me I can't come up with a good name for him. My kid is going to be a no name!
It has to be more than one syllable and can't start with B (because my surname is Brown). Also, I would prefer a non religious name. Any suggestions?
Ok, Marie, you've opened a can of worms here, because I love to suggest baby names!
ReplyDeleteI'm currently promoting Luke for a boy, but that's one syllable, so doesn't meet your criteria. I like standard, you know it's a boy names, so how about William (lots of good nicknames there) or Thomas (traditional but not overused).
How about a family member or special person you could honor by named the boy after them? I've found that to be easy AND makes people in your family really happy. We've got a lot of that in our family. Or maybe your or your mother/mother in law's maiden name? That's a big hit, too. And cool, I think.
There are lots of Bryce/Brycens, Tylers, Zacharys, Colts, Jacobs running around elementary schools right now, if that bothers you. Look at the annual Social Security list of most common baby names.
Lastly, maybe when you see him, a name will just pop into your head. That's how we named our second, who we thought was a girl but wasn't :-).
Good luck, Momma!
I don't believe this...sounds like someone is trying to stir up the public's support of Katie!
ReplyDelete@Ariawynn
ReplyDeleteWas "Rose" her last name? I bet she got, "Daisy Rose what?" Her entire life. I thought "what" was my last name for the first seven years of my life.
@Henrietta
ReplyDeleteI did not write that my granddaughter got her character from a book, I stated my daughter "hoped".
Thank goodness you don't teach my grandchildren, because we would have sniffed out your lack of character. My husband, a teacher called your statement moronic and hopes your judgement of your students are not transparent. Unfortunately, kids are usually aware of which teacher "likes" or "unlikes" them.
*dislike* I was so fired up by Henrietta's comment, I slipped on my words and cracked a hip..
ReplyDelete@Marie...Ferris.
ReplyDeleteI adore that movie and my daughter is named after the coolest, most beautiful girl in school (Sloane). She also hyphenates her last name, by HER choosing, when she was 8, after her father and I separated (however, since my last name was her 2nd middle name-- Sloane is her 1st middle name, she just shifted it from a middle name to part of her last name...so not really a name change, per se).
@~Z~ You are RIGHT ON the money!!!! I commented on this last week. Tommy Davis is TOTALLY the sperm donor! For as much as one might think Tom Cruise and Suri look alike, just google Tommy Davis (the CO$ spokesperson) and it will erase all doubt.
ReplyDeleteI think it's a bit strange others don't comment about this (especially now, when Enty's first line of this post is about Tom not being Suri's bio dad... when I tried to bring it up, it wasn't really pertinent). Yes, Scout is most likely already Suri's nickname (c'mon people, Suri is a horrific name -- Katie never liked it to begin with, which is why she most likely never called her that). And sure, hyphenate the last name (don't care if it's the Rachel way, or British way, blah blah).
Regardless, TOMMY DAVIS IS THE BIO DAD!!! Let's focus on that (not that ANY of this really matters -- remember, this is a gossip site after all :)
Thanks for at least trying to remind everyone that Tommy D (not C) is the bio dad, Z!!!!!
Wow, lot's of rhyming letters there at the end of that (not intended, sorry)
ReplyDeleteone of my kids doesn't use her first or middle name. most people don't even know it IS her name. she uses a nickname. at the beginning of the year the teachers ask the kids what they want to be called and that's that.
ReplyDelete2 of my kids use my last name rather than their dads last name because they hate him. one will not answer or respond to her legal last name. my point is, kids will choose their name at some point, based on their feelings for the people they associate the names with.
suri reminds me of "surrey with the fringe on top". i don't like unique (aka weirdo) names. wtf is a "suri". dumb.
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDelete@redronnie
ReplyDeleteI think it is "moronic" that you can't get my name right as you are reading it. It's "Henriette" not "Henrietta."
Thanks for your suggestions, you've given me a bit to think about ;)
ReplyDeleteMarie, how about Sebastian? Our last name is brown and it's what we named our son. His nickname is Bash, it goes with our last name perfectly.
ReplyDelete@Olive, Tom doesn't have a brother. Maybe you're thinking of his cousin, William Mapother (from "Lost" and "In the Bedroom")?
ReplyDelete@Jax, that's the rumor I'd like to believe... Josh Hartnett!
Holy shit. Suri looks JUST LIKE Tommy Davis.
ReplyDeleteAnd hello all, long time lurker. :)
