Scarlett Johansson Says She Is Too Sexy For Hollywood

Scarlett Johansson is taking her ego pills again. In a recent interview, Scarlett says she misses out on a lot of roles in Hollywood because she thinks she is too sexy. "That has happened to me before, yeah. That’s always an unfortunate thing to figure out. Why can’t you see?! For me, I would imagine casting someone, you would want to challenge yourself in some way."

I think maybe she is not getting the roles because she only plays one type of role. Yes, when she is in Avengers it is different, but anyone could have played that role. She got lucky they cast her for that. If you look at something that actually requires acting, all her roles kind of just meld into one person. You can be sexy and if you are a good actress can pull off anything. I think Scarlett is just finding any excuse she can why she loses out on parts to actresses who can actually act.

  1. Not that I'm a fan of hers, but from the quote, it sounds like the interviewer may have specifically asked her, "have you lost out on roles because you're too sexy?" I'm not sure that there's really a correct way to answer a loaded question like that, especially when you're put on the spot.

  2. I think she can act and is of course beautiful. Imo, she appears to be on drugs or some substance. Could be only pot but it's making her appear somewhat absent. That's probably why she's not getting meatier roles.

  3. Do I think she's "too sexy for Hollywood"? Uh, no. Please. But I will say my favorite role she ever did was the cheating girlfriend in Match Point that gets shot. It is a femme fatale role that has a side of desperation and suited her.

But she slept with Sean Penn. That kind of takes away any sexual mystique she ever had.

  4. I see she subscribes to the same theory as Jessica Biel - I'm too pretty, I'm too sexy. Meh.

  5. She's too sexy for her shirt. Too sexy for her shirt.

  6. Please with her ugly mug....I loved Ghost World, but her looks have always struck me as odd.

  7. Scarlett would have a much better reputation if she didn't give interviews.

  8. I agree- she was sexy until she let Sean Penn all up in her lady bits. Now she's tainted with Penn cooties.

In my house, she is referred to as "Cardboard Cutout"--because she can't act, and could be replaced in any scene by a life-size cutout of herself...and no one would notice. I tend to think the opposite of what she said: I think the only reason she gets roles at all is because she sells herself as walking T&A. Seriously, does the chick have any substance at all?

    (No. No she does not.)

Hey Scarlett, explain Charlize Theron to me then. She is sexy and hot and some how continues to get all sorts of work... Oh that's right...she's talented

  12. She was just awful in The Other Boleyn Girl. I waited with bated breath for that movie, and walked out the theater incredibly disappointed. The casting was wrong for every single character, including Natalie Portman as Anne Boleyn. I usually like Natalie, but they should've chosen a British cast for that movie. Listening to all the fake accents ruined it, and ScarJo was plain BORING.

  13. No hate here.
She did an intro for a friend's film, spur of the moment, when he saw her at Disneyland...just for the asking. She gets a pass in my book.

  14. But still, Sean Penn...blech.

  15. She is pretty, but there are women in Hollywood who are much sexier and they still get roles.

  17. @ Brooke, The Other Boleyn Girl was Fing terrible. I completely agree about the casting. Ugh.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Has she watched The Girl with the Pearl Earring or The Other Boleyn Girl? She should. She would understand in about 2 seconds why she's not cast. She is awful.

    ReplyDelete
  19. What Brooke and Amber said. The Other Boleyn Girl was SO awful.

I mean, if you want someone to look vacant and expressionless... she's your girl. Otherwise, meh.

  20. Remember Lost in Translation when it was up for awards left and right. Sophia C and Bill M couldn't stop gushing about how each other was awesome, etc etc but they never said a word about ScarJo. That spoke volumes.

I just IMDB'd her and I'm kind of surprised at how many of her movies I've seen. She really only plays one role, a petulant child. And she's pushing 30 so that schtick gets old.

That said, she's funny when she's on SNL so maybe she should give up her Oscar aspirations and do comedy. If people want to work with her.

  21. Fincher confirmed when she was screen-tested for her Lisbeth Salander, she was very good but too sexy for the character

    ReplyDelete
  22. Yeah, agreed with many comments above. Her scenes with pretty much everyone in Girl w/ Pearl were um...disappointing? Anita's right though, on comedy, she could possibly do that, be part of an ensemble on a sitcom. Something like that. The "marble columns" skit she did w/ Armisen is something we quote all the time around the house. Still funny ten times later.

  23. Yeah, but...she HAS lost roles because of her sex appeal. Her acting prowess may be questionable, but she's not lying.

That's a cop out when you've got Charlize Theron winning the Oscar for Monster.

    ReplyDelete
  25. @Christina--Exactly what I was going to say. Every time someone says that I just think "Look at Charlize." The only person to blame for not being able to get out of that sexy mode is herself. She has no range whatsoever. She was a big deal with Lost in Translation, but I really don't get it. I also think her face is fug when she talks. I've never understood the girl.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I like her in movies, but I get the feeling she never wants to ugly up for a movie role the way CT did in Monster.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I've READ many interviews where she seems awesome. Then I've WATCHED interviews and she seems like a babbling idiot. The S Peen thang is hard to stomach too.

I loved her in Avengers! She was bad ass and looked great! Better than J Alba in Fantastic Four. That said, I'd love to see her in more comedies. I actually like her and we share a bday. So lotsa love there.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Reminds me of Jessica Biel saying she was too pretty to get roles that went to other actresses. (Only problem in that argument was, the other actresses were arguably as if not more beautiful.)

Actually I personally think Miss Scarlett is pretty good...with a limited range, but has she really been challenged? Her rep for being full of herself may be getting in her way. She was great in Avengers.

She should take some time off and do some real acting, i.e. stage work, in some iconic roles. That might sharpen her up.

    ReplyDelete
  29. So you're saying you don't think she can act? I've seen almost all her movies & I never noticed. But I was probably too distracted by her awesome sexiness. Hypnotized as it were. Now the "I'm too sexy for myself" song is stuck in my head.

    ReplyDelete
  30. don't worry hunny time is a cruel mistress when you lose the bloom of your youth you will really see if you can stay in Hollywood and get those "challenging" character roles. Just enjoy your money and big boobs and shut up.

    ReplyDelete
  31. @FrenchGirl

Yes, I remember the Fincher comment too. So that's at least one part she didn't get due to her body type.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is probably the only role she lost out to for being too sexy because her body is ridiculously hot. But that role called for an androgynous girl, did it not? And it required someone who could act.

@Comma Chaser, "marble columns" was what I was thinking about when I wrote that. "How nuts is that?"

    ReplyDelete
  33. I never understood all the ingenue buzz she got. Scarlett is a one note actress, and that note is buried in her tits.
I was mad they cast her in The Avengers, she made Chris Evans look like Sir Ian McKellen. There were so many other actresses that could fill out the neoprene suit.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I can't stand this twunt. She's a total butterface. Yes her body is pretty but her face really isn't. She has an air of "I'm too good for you." Which makes me dislike her more.

There are TONS of woman who are a lot sexier & a lot more talented than she is. As Christina said Charlize Theron is stunning AND a great actress. I'll also put Angelina Jolie. That woman is extremely sexy & also a really good actress. I could go on but I think you get the picture.

Scarlett is just an average pretty girl with big knockers. Which drives the boys wild. She probably wouldn't have gotten as many roles as she has if she weren't pretty because she can't act to save her life. Her attitude just makes it all the harder to like her.

    ReplyDelete
  35. She's definitely gorgeous, and I don't think she's a bad actress. There are certainly plenty around who have far less talent than she does. But there's always been something just a little off about her.

I remember when she was still living with--who was it? Ryan Reynolds? He talked her into joining Twitter, and she lasted less than 48 hours. Which is really neither here nor there, but it does kind of reinforce the view I have of her which is that she doesn't relate to most people very well or very easily.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Comparing Scarlett and Charlize's sexiness is like apples and oranges. Charlize has more of a classy ice blonde, confident sexy. Scarlett's is more curvy, va va voomish. Plus she's 15 years younger and hasn't learned how to own it as well as Charlize. She will one day.
    Leave Scarlett aloooooone! ;)

  37. Am I the only one who liked The Other Boylen ? lol

    ReplyDelete
  38. Ugh. I was hanging out in a group of 11 people a week and a half ago, and all five guys there rated Scarlet in their Top 5. We girls started naming every Hollywood actress/model/celebrity we could think of who is sexier than her, but the guys still thought that she was the hottest.

    Idiots.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Scarlet, Scarlet, Scarlet: You are too boring for Hollywood.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Men seem to like her, but I never thought she was Hollywood beautiful. She IS a terrible actress, though, even in Avengers, which didn't ask for much. And you could tell the only stunt she's capable of performing on her own is tossing her hair.

If she had real talent, directors would not make lame excuses for not casting her.

    ReplyDelete
  41. She definitely has a smoking hot body, but she seems like she's a real bitch IRL. The word to describe her would be "sultry". And I agree, she pretty much only plays one or two types kf characters in her movies.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I agree with the people saying that there's something about her attitude. I think she is beautiful (and like that her face is doesn't look like everyone else's), but can't get past her personality.

She seems like the type at a party who asks you a question just to make conversation, but then doesn't listen to your answer (Can't stand those people!)

    ReplyDelete
  43. Ok...Scarlett needs a reality check. I have to tell you honestly, I think she is one of the homeliest actresses in Hollywood. She just is average looking to me. I never ever understood her sex appeal. She's also a totally overrated actress. She looks a little better all done up, but she is still so unattractive to me.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Anonymous9:59 AM

@Sarah: "Scarlett is a one note actress, and that note is buried in her tits." Oh, how I laughed ...

Scarlett is a terrible actress, has a weird face, is obviously not bright, and has a raging lady boner for herself. I can't tolerate her. She's been awful in everything I've ever seen her in, from The Horse Whisperer (where her attitude earned her the wrath of Robert Redford) to The Girl with the Pearl Earring (if you can't act, don't appear in a movie with lots of great actors - you suffer even more by comparison) to Match Point (I cheered when she was killed). She's terrible.

    ReplyDelete
  45. She has a really womanly body, and I know that many people like that, but I prefer a more toned physique -- she's too squishy for my tastes. (Plus she always poses round-shouldered and pigeon-toed, which drives me nuts, and not in a good way.) And the face? Bovine.

  46. @Hendrix, she HAS done stage work. She was in an Arthur Miller play on Broadway and won a Tony last year.

  48. Give me a break. I've always ranted about her complete lack of acting ability, but now I have to mention her looks. She is average, nothing special at all.

Enty is right on the money about anybody being able to play Black Widow. Tall attractive redhead, that's it.

  49. Scarlett is sexy?

    Really?

    ReplyDelete
  50. ScarJo is beyond boring as an actress, and I haven't liked her in anything since Lost in Translation. I saw a clip on YouTube last night from Match Point and was so thankful Woody Allen has finally ended his casting obsession with her, especially considering how awful she was in Vicky Christina Barcelona. She's gorgeous and has a great body, but has the same monotonous voice and facial expression in movie after movie. Fincher was being kind when he said she was great as Lisbeth Salander; that role takes great commitment and talent - ScarJo has neither. I'm with the others who disliked The Other Bolyn Girl (or whatever it was called). Five minutes into that debacle and I turned it off. How could Hollywood have cast such completely incompetent actresses when there are plenty of other gorgeous, talented actresses? Seriously?!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Scarlett: "Oh,I'm just so sexy. Me and my astigmatism that makes my eyes go in opposite directions. Oh but you didn't notice that because of my big fake distractions! Oh, I know Meryl Streep wishes she were sexy like me."

    ReplyDelete
  52. "she HAS done stage work. She was in an Arthur Miller play on Broadway and won a Tony last year."

Having done stage work does not render one a competent actor, nor does the Tony award. If she can't act on film, I guarantee you she can't act on stage. Considering how mediocre most of Broadway "acting" is, it's not surprising that Scarlet would have won an award - the competition is not that great. And name recognition helps one earn an award anyway.

Julia Stiles somehow continues to get stage work, even though she's just as boring as Scarlet. Allison Pill also gets stage work, but is actually talented. Bryce Dallas Howard is an excellent young actress and does stage and film, but is not cast as much as Scarlet, despite her Hollywood pedigree. Scarlet is more attractive than Bryce, which is why she's cast in more films. Hollywood doesn't necessarily cast the most talented individuals.

  53. I just do NOT see where she is either sexy or attractive and I really do not thing she's that great of an actress either : /

  56. I read this sentence with a different inflection, and it amused me: "Scarlett says she misses out on a lot of roles in Hollywood because she thinks she is too sexy." As in, NOT that Scarlett misses out on roles because she's too sexy, but Scarlett misses out on roles because she THINKS she's too sexy. Like, she auditions, and the casting people think, "Woah, that girl's arrogant and smug! She sure thinks she's sexy! Next!"
(Not that that's what he meant when he wrote the sentence, just that it was amusing to read it that way. And it's probably true.)

    ReplyDelete
  57. Hey SarJo, you miss out on roles because you're a one trick pony and a pain in the ass to work with.

    ReplyDelete
  58. geez, so much hate here. and over what? some incomplete quote from an inadequately described interview?

she has a sexy body and is an alright actress who doesn't seem to interview well. big fucking deal.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Hookah please, stop wearing makeup, don't comb your hair, eat more, and roll around in a river. Then I am sure you will get parts -.-
Or don't play parts that require running around in a catsuit/pouting your lips. Prove yourself with serious roles.

Charlize is waaaay prettier than her (and a lot more actresses) and she is able to get serious roles.

I'd like to add that her beauty is due to Hollywood magic. If you see her walking down the street I would argue that most of the women on this page commenting look just as good if not better. When she is dolled up for premieres and movies she does look great, but if you give a woman a Hollywood makeover and enough spans they can look just as beautiful. My husband used to like her, but her attitude, lack of talent, lack of intelligence, and her being Sean Penn's sloppy seconds has made him relegate her to the not a snowball's chance in hell pile. He now prefers beautiful actresses that actually have talent ala Charlize Theron, Natlie Dormer, and Kate Beckinsale.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Jennifer Connelly was too sexy for Hollywood. She always did good work but didn't get much respect until she got older and lost too much weight.

So I can see this for Scarlett.

And for the Theron, etc., backers- pretty (especially what other females find pretty) can be very different from sexy. Just sayin' (/ducks)!

    ReplyDelete
  62. I can't stand her, but I love this pic; it's from downtown Cleveland and it's around the corner from where I live. Somehow they made the city seem cleaner in the film, though...

    ReplyDelete
  63. Scarlett is a total slank. She hates other women, that is her main problem and likely why some of you are saying there's just something about her attitude. When you see her snottiness come out, check to see if the interviewer is male or female. There was a Lainey Blind about this that was just revealed to be Scarlett (something about bitch in the bathroom??). She's a bitch to women and turns on the charm and appeal for the men.

I cannot stand anyone who actually admits out loud how effing hard it is to be pretty or hot. It is the ultimate humblebrag and not only will we hate them more when they say it, but immediately, they seem a bit uglier too.

  65. Yet another egomaniac who is too stupid to realize she owes her entire career to her looks.I have heard the same thing from Jessica Alba, Cammy Diaz, and Michelle Pfieffer (Pfieffer went so far as to say she would have gotten an Oscar nod for a movie if she hadn't looked so pretty in it). But really, I think these girls are full of shit anyways. If someone actually offered them the chance to instantly become ugly, I bet they would burst into tears of horror and run in the other direction.

Dia, Redford says that when they were making The Horse Whisperer, she refused to take instructions from Redford, who directed the movie. She argued with him, questioned his decisions, back-talked to him constantly, and generally acted like a HUGE brat. She was 13 at the time, but apparently thought she knew SO MUCH MORE about moviemaking than that hack Robert Redford. Anyway, Redford said he'd never work with her again. And he hasn't.

KatD -- my massage therapist once said that Julia Stiles looks like a chipmunk with Down Syndrome. When I look at her now, that's all I can see.

  69. "Too sexy for Hollywood." Yep, that must be it, Scarlett (and/or interviewer who came up with that idiotic theory). If there's anything Hollywood has no idea how to do, it's how to properly sexualize attractive women. Must be all those ugly, unsexy people that fill Hollywood, holding those rare gorgeous ones down.
