The two surviving members of Run-DMC are finally reuniting. Reverend Run and DMC will be performing in Austin in November. This is something that should have happened a long time ago. At the same time I also worry if they will be able to sound anything like the original they were so long ago. What would make it better? Aerosmith to join them on stage for a little Walk This Way combination. Maybe get the surviving members of Beastie Boys up there with them. It would be like a Yo MTV Raps reunion.

Being a child of the late 80s/early 90s was THA SHIT. I pity all other decades because they didnt have the sweet sweet knowledge that Yo MTV raps brought to our young minds ;-))

ReplyDeleteI remember DMC had some kind of vocal issues and he couldn't speak very well. Run was trying to start his own church and reality show.

Liquid Television! I was obsessed with Aeon Flux. I watched a few of the new B&B eps and was entertained, but I kind of forgot it was on.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if The State is on Netflix or Hulu, but you should try to find it. It was super funny. (A number of the Reno 911 ppl were on it.)
Oh, also, remember Undressed? It was like a teen/college soap opera. Sososo cheesy it was awesome.
ReplyDeleteMTV has a pretty decent series going now called Awkward. It's a HS soap centered around a less snarky version of the Ellen Page character from Juno. If you like teen romcoms you'll like it.

amh - you're in OKC, correct? Isn't the Memorial just breathtaking? I went with my 7th grader on a field trip, and it really touched me. I highly recommend anyone passing through Oklahoma to take the time to visit.

ReplyDeleteThe new Beavis and Butthead eps are like, the best of the old ones, but new! I was very skeptical at first but really, I still can't believe how good the new season was. Some I watchted twice they were so good. It's the same type of humor targeted to us, the same audience yet they add in Jersey Shore. It's absolutely hysterical and I'm going to take it as a person attack if you don't watch and post in the next TomKat post OT: New Beavis and Butthead was AMAZEBALLS (no don't say "amazeballs" bc it's a stupid word that needs to be banned.

The best cartoon on MTV in the 90s was The Maxx. It was simply superb.
ReplyDeleteFrufra, I am in OKC. I have a friend who's birthday is 4/19 and she refused to go to the bombing site EVER. She was back for a visit recently and we drove by it and she was just mesmerized. It truly is a reverent memorial. I had the opportunity to produce and edit a video for them and filming it (in the museum) was so powerful that I couldn't keep from crying. ReplyDeleteWe were just discussing 120 Minutes and The State today before I even saw this post...weird MTV Zeitgeist goin' on today. For those who haven't seen The State, check out "Wet Hot American Summer", which features a majority of the cast, and is one of my favorite movies out there.
amh, I will be checking out your video. I am a relatively new Okie (almost three years now), but feel that the Memorial tells what is best about the people in this part of the country. It is stunning, absolutely wonderful.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I also cried the entire time. Surrounded by 7th graders. Have you been there for a First Responders/Survivors talk? Again, wonderfully done. Ours was by an FBI agent.
Welcome! And I echo the sentiment. Sam Presti does too. Every Thunder player, employee, etc. MUST tour the Museum and Memorial to get a sense of where they are and what makes the people / this state who they are.
