THIS eccentric, two-time Oscar nominee loves to sweat it out at yoga, but he has such bad body odor that fellow clients at the popular L.A. studio are bending over backward to avoid the stinky star. Who is he?
Oh, and I sort of have a story about him! One of my best friend's parents' house was used for filming a scene in J. Edgar and my friend hung out when filming was going on. She met Clint Eastwood and got pictures with him (he was kind and cool, apparently), but DiCaprio didn't talk to anyone and ignored all bystanders. I think that he brushed by her coming out of her bathroom at one point.
I'm with the Woody guess. Nominated for The Messenger and People vs Larry Flynt, a yoga enthusiast, and I will be the first to report that the natural deoderents (crystal, Tom's of Maine etc) do not mask the funk
It's definitely either Joaquin or Woody. Both vegan, both Eco-friendly. Not all Eco-friendly deodorants are effective, and some don't even bother with it. I'm leaning more towards Joaquin though; doesn't Woody live primarily in Hawaii?
I'm on board with Woody as well. A couple years ago during TIFF (the Toronto International Film Festival), Woody led a huge yoga class in a public park (it was well-publicized, so hundreds turned up, and it was all over the news).
I think Woody as well. He was funny on Stern! I didn't know he auditioned for Greg Kinnears role in as good as it gets, he said he played it 'too gay' in the audtion.
Matthew McConaughey was nominated for 2 Oscars? I gotta look that up. I can't imagine for what. Woody had his shoes off during the Howard interview and was talking about his bohemian lifestyle. He's way cool though.
I don't think any big star like Johnny Depp or Leo DiCaprio would mingle with the plebeians for Yoga. BTW, my 14yo daughter's good friend has a very strong body odor apparently, so much so that others talk about it behind her back. Is there any good way to tell someone they have B.O.? I think she bathes enough, so I'm not sure she can do much about it.
Leaning towards Depp. He did a King of the Hill episode where he was the voice of an eccentric yoga instructor. Maybe Mike Judge chose him to do the voice for that episode because he was into yoga. Anyway, just a thought.
I think you guys are right about Woody Harrelson. He used to stay at our Hotel in Palm Springs. He was super nice (did not notice he smelled) but he was a pot smoker and pot does smell weird when you sweat it out. Also, healthy eating doesn't help!
@Don'tRain---I have had issues such as those of your daughter's friend. I found that soaping up with Coast deodorant soap twice during the same shower helped, but was very drying. Consumer reports did research, and there were several brands of deodorant that worked better than others. They worked for me, but then my body got used to the formula, and it didn't work as well anymore. I also heard that zinc oxide worked well to block odors, so I use Gold Bond powder on some areas. It really takes a little experimentation to figure out what will work for any given person. I usually use the things I have mentioned, with a scented body lotion (keri), and cologne every day. It is a tough problem to have, as many people seem to believe that those of us who have this issue just aren't interested in being clean, don't bathe, etc. None of those are true, in my case, and I hope that you are able to help this girl figure out what may help her. Good luck.
I remember a while back Matthew McConaughey said in some article how he never wears deoderant... He doesnt beleive in it. I think it was a cosmo issue?
It's not that weird to not use deodorant. I stopped during my pregnancy because of the aluminum but I've never really had a daily need for it anyway...if I know I'm going to be sweaty I use the mineral salt spray.
@Christina, thanks much for the tips. I will tell my daughter, in case she can somehow work the info into a conversation with this girl. :) @Nutty thanks to you as well!
Making sure that her bedding is cleaned often and that ther clothes in her closet are laundered after each use helps too. I had a roommate with this issue... Her bedroom was stinky!
@Prada: Perhaps your daughter's friend ought to see a doctor about this--there are a few medical conditions that make people stink to high heavens (changes in diet can definitely help, but you need to know what to stop eating), and sometimes young adolescents just plain stink for a while until their hormones level out a bit. Also, FWIW herbalist Jeanne Rose suggests taking 1 teaspoon of green clay in half a glass of water morning and night for 1 week (2 at most), along w/zinc supplements & brewer's yeast, to help kill off the stench for kids that age.
As for crystal deodorants not working, I beg to differ--I used the rock for a while back in the early '90s when I was doing the earthy-crunchy thing in Athens, GA, and it kept me smelling just fine even in July in Georgia. You do need to shower well first, though, and wet the stone before you rub well all over your pits; let it dry, and then dust powder over the area. You'll still sweat, but you ought to smell OK.
Oh, yeah, and this is probably Woody, w/Matt M. being another possibility...
Regarding stinky vegetarians, I don't know if they have a reputation for stinky sweat, but I do know they fart like crazy. When I was a vegetarian, I farted to high heaven. All my veggie friends have reputations for their farts. That's why natural food store sell all those digestive aids for breaking down cellulose and the like - to help vegetarians not fart so much.
@g.strathmore I am ashamed to admit I laughed longer at your comment than any other post I've seen on CDaN. My sense of humor never made it out of third grade
Sometimes it's the clothes - I know sometimes the pits of my clothes get stinky. I'll put them on clean n they smell in no time!
Vinegar is the answer. Soak your clothes in vinegar diluted in water and the smell goes away. Works as deodorant, although you need to let it dry with your arms up which can be annoying.
@Marie Instead of soaking the clothes, my mom used to keep a big spay bottle of diluted vinegar (equal parts vinegar and water) for my Dad's t-shirts. It makes it less messy and you don't have to use as much vinegar. Thought you might like the suggestion :)
I don't want to sound like some kind of Martha, but socks and workout clothes get way clean with dishwasher detergent. You have to be careful not to use too much, but it's sudsless, kills grime and bacteria and everything, and leaves a fresh smell! Of course, not on delicates, and not on anything you're going to be wearing to the Met gala.
Leo or depp
ReplyDeleteI was thinking the same two options... smoking adds to the lovely smells. Is Depp in LA now more often?
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDelete"Eccentric" made me think of Jeff Goldblum, but he's not a two-time Oscar nominee, so...
ReplyDeleteETA: And Depp, too! Definitely eccentric.
Brad Pitt?
ReplyDeleteAlthough Pitt has 4 nominations.
ReplyDeleteA quick google search tells me this is Marky Mark Wahlberg.
ReplyDeleteI don't see Leo or Depp every doing yoga.
I was thinking Pitt too, But is he a 2 time nominee?
ReplyDeleteMaybe someone should suggest Bikram yoga. That way he'll blend right into the stench of the room.
I thought Depp, perhaps, but it's hard for me to imagine him doing yoga for some reason. I checked IMDB and he has 3 Oscar noms.
ReplyDeleteLeo, for sure.
ReplyDeleteOh, and I sort of have a story about him! One of my best friend's parents' house was used for filming a scene in J. Edgar and my friend hung out when filming was going on. She didn't mention if he smelled, though.
Joaquin Phoenix
ReplyDeleteMy sweet Woody H. I am listening to him on Howard Stern as we speak.
ReplyDeleteLeo has 3 noms. Joaquin 2. We could have a winner!
ReplyDeleteOkay, Woody has 2 noms also. Then there's this:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.mindbodygreen.com/0-2210/Woody-Harrelson-on-Yoga-Sex-and-Canada.html
oh yeah - forgot about Joaquin! I vote for him.
ReplyDeleteJoaquin fits the best. Eccentric and 2 time Oscar.
ReplyDeleteI think it's Woody Harrelson. I can picture him doing yoga. And he's Eco-conscious. Maybe he doesn't use deodorant.
ReplyDeleteI'm with the Woody guess. Nominated for The Messenger and People vs Larry Flynt, a yoga enthusiast, and I will be the first to report that the natural deoderents (crystal, Tom's of Maine etc) do not mask the funk

ReplyDeleteI think it's Woody. I wonder if pot odor seeps through your pores, like liquor does???
ReplyDeleteIt does. My friend was in a steam room and we could've gotten high off her sweat.
DeleteI'm on board with Woody as well. A couple years ago during TIFF (the Toronto International Film Festival), Woody led a huge yoga class in a public park (it was well-publicized, so hundreds turned up, and it was all over the news).
ReplyDeleteWoody b/c of everything Sunny pointed out.
ReplyDeleteI think Woody as well. He was funny on Stern! I didn't know he auditioned for Greg Kinnears role in as good as it gets, he said he played it 'too gay' in the audtion.
ReplyDeleteYou guys are swaying me towards Woody.
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely Woody. Of all of those mentioned above, he is definitely the most eccentric and has two nominations.
ReplyDeleteWoody is a good guess, but I'm on the Matthew McConaughey train for this one.
ReplyDeleteThe guy already admits he doesn't believe in deodorant.

ReplyDelete@Dontrain, I have heard that a lack of magnesium or zinc can create body odor.
ReplyDeleteNo noms for Matthew McConaughey. I'm on the Woody train for this.
ReplyDeleteRalph Fiennes smells. He always has. And he practice yoga
ReplyDeleteTom Hanks. No, but would be awesome after he did the sweaty stinky man in yoga class slit for SNL
ReplyDeleteLeaning towards Depp. He did a King of the Hill episode where he was the voice of an eccentric yoga instructor. Maybe Mike Judge chose him to do the voice for that episode because he was into yoga. Anyway, just a thought.
ReplyDeleteJust read that IMDB has Johnny Depp's nickname listed as Mr Stench. Trying to see if he has been Oscar nominated twice.
ReplyDeletePlug your ears if you get offended easily because here comes a big FAT generalization!!!! WARNING!!warning!!WARNING!!
ReplyDeleteWhy does it seem like all the straight guys in Hollyweird stay unshowered and the gay/bi ones are clean as a whistle(zestfully clean).
What is with the straight guys being unkempt???? Is it because they know they can get you regardless?
I think you guys are right about Woody Harrelson. He used to stay at our Hotel in Palm Springs. He was super nice (did not notice he smelled) but he was a pot smoker and pot does smell weird when you sweat it out. Also, healthy eating doesn't help!

Betty White. She has to have that old person smell.
ReplyDelete@AnotherJosh- 15 minute time out for you :)
ReplyDelete@Agent**It haha! You're right. I deserve that.
ReplyDelete"Also, healthy eating doesn't help!"
ReplyDeleteHuh? I give you the following:
http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/discoblog/2009/10/07/but-do-vegetarians-taste-better/
I thought *I* smelled better when I was vegetarian/vegan. I'm not sure why you would think that they would smell WORSE.
Sean Penn
ReplyDeletehas keanu reeves been nominated? There was a solved blind about his trailer smelling of BO so badly they couldn't remove the smell.
ReplyDeleteI remember a while back Matthew McConaughey said in some article how he never wears deoderant... He doesnt beleive in it. I think it was a cosmo issue?
ReplyDeleteHow can you not believe in deodorant? I mean, what's the controversy? Unite for the Funk!
ReplyDeleteIt's not that weird to not use deodorant. I stopped during my pregnancy because of the aluminum but I've never really had a daily need for it anyway...if I know I'm going to be sweaty I use the mineral salt spray.
ReplyDeleteThe salt spray works as well as Bumble & Bumble surf spray for putting waves in your hair, too. Doubly useful!

ReplyDeleteToo bad this is an odorless item.
ReplyDeleteI bet lots of people leaked this.
ReplyDeleteI'm positive this is Russel Brand!
ReplyDeleteOops forgot about the Oscar part, oh well. Never mind
