Mariah Carey Gets $18M To Be An American Idol Judge
Well, apparently the producers at American Idol have chosen to ignore my advice and believe that signing Mariah Carey as a judge is the way to increase ratings. I know I keep saying that the judges don't make me want to watch, but have you seen the previews for X Factor while you are watching other shows on FOX? There are some clips of Britney where she is perfectly coiffed. There are others where it looks like she has had 40 cigarette breaks outside in a windstorm and doesn't want anyone to touch her hair or her makeup and just wants to get the day over. There won't be many Britney moments during the first part of the season, but those live shows. Those are what I want to see. But, why am I watching it? To see a possible trainwreck, not for the actual talent. Mariah doesn't make me want to watch Idol and now the judges have spent $18M thinking it will. Now, if this was Mariah about 10 years ago and on the edge, then I would probably watch for her, but only because of what she might say or do.
JBlow must be steamed! What a bday present.
ReplyDeleteWoaaah AI picked a female judge who can actually sing? Shut the front door!
ReplyDeleteIf you've ever seen Mariah on the Home Shopping Network selling her crap, then you know she can be pure gold!
ReplyDeleteShe'll be worth every penny...
ReplyDeleteShe'll be fabulous, I'm sure. Love Mariah - butterflies and all. J. Lo is probably pisssssssssssed!!
ReplyDeleteThere is some really nasty politics at AI -- I can't remember the details now but I do recall thinking AI didn't just not renew with Paula but went out of its way to shit all over her publicly by taking on JLo at maybe a higher rate than Paula ever asked for? Something similar to this. I think this is higher than JLo ever asked for. It just ... looks like flat-out woman-hating the way AI does this. (They didn't do the same thing to Simon when he left and they won't do anything remotely similar to Steven Tyler either.)
ReplyDeleteI thought Mariah got 12 million same as Jlo?
ReplyDeletemariah is still batshit! this is going to be great!
ReplyDeleteI don't think people will tune in for Mariah...right away. I think Mariah is going to be loopy, diva'd out Mariah. I think it's going to be similar to how Aguilera is on The Voice where she makes everything about her and finds every opportunity to sing at the contestants. Except I don't think Mariah will be as drunk as Aguilera.
ReplyDeleteI may watch the first few just to see.
I LOVE unicorns and rainbows!!!! I will definitely be watching!
ReplyDeleteLove you MiMi! Big Kiss! xoxoxoxoxo!!!!!!
* ;) *
Can I say how much I hate her hair?
ReplyDeleteAs long as people continue to write about them, they win.
ReplyDeleteYay! Someone who can sing! I would love to see her hit some notes from the judges table. Unlike her predecessors.
ReplyDeleteI just love Mariah!
ReplyDeleteWe'll see...
ReplyDeleteBlech. Cannot stand MC (but I've heard her sing and I see why people love her).
ReplyDeleteDidn't watch AI before, not going to start now.
The judges didn't pick her, TPTB did. Enty needs a copy editor. I usually don't say this, but he/they have gotten really careless.
ReplyDeleteAs for Mariah, at least she can sing live, unlike J-LO and Paula.
I have never watched AI, but I might now. Agreed with Henriette, Mariah Cary on HSN is just too good to pass up.
ReplyDeleteMy husband will watch. He hates her music but is a big fan of her ... body.
ReplyDeleteIf she promised to be batshit crazy, I would consider meaning to watch but would forget and not care.
Now if only they could get someone like Elton John or George Michael, I might actually watch it.
ReplyDeletenot a fan. what a waste of good $$$

ReplyDeleteI can't think of anyone currently alive on Earth as a judge that would make me want to watch this show.
ReplyDeleteThis is so beneath Mimi, IMO. She is too good for this shit show. It's not like she can't afford to not work. The $ she makes off interest alone could support a small nation.
ReplyDeleteIf they wanted ratings why not have Adam Lambert, Gloria Estaban and Kanye West as judges. I'd love to watch that:-) It would be entertaining as hell!!!
ReplyDeleteEverytime I see her photos I think of one hand on her ear and one hand in the hair shaking around while he sings her eeeehheheheheee. Sweet sweet fantasy it is not.
ReplyDelete"As long as people continue to write about them, they win."
ReplyDeleteJust like the Terrorists, ABlake(7:01 AM).
If she is in, I am out. Will not watch the blow up doll struggle to make sense. JLO was at least professional.
ReplyDelete@lola - I love that line up! I'd watch too.
ReplyDeleteShit, Elton John, GM and Mimi. That is fucking brilliant. I would actually watch that. I have NEVER watched AI, although I do think Kelly Clarkson is really amazing.
ReplyDeletei have to laugh. AI has mimi and simon cowell's show has .... demi lavato. i HATE simon and like AI much more w/ him gone.
ReplyDeletethis will be great! i told my 11 year old and she said, "oh, nick canon's wife. she sings, right?" generation gap.
Anybody ever hear about how much she freaks out if the camera shoots her face from a certain side? I remember hearing that somewhere years ago when she made that movie Glitter. Sure enough, when I saw it (I was in high school - no judging) nearly every frame in the movie is of her "good side".
ReplyDeleteSaw her on the home shopping Chanel while she was preggers and she stopped mid product peddling and yelled at the camera guy to change angles or she wouldn't continue!!
Wonder how AI will film her.....
fully agree
ReplyDeleteBUT on the other hand, and for a change, Mariah CAN sing *coughBritneyJLowCherylColecough*
Yeah her hair is awful on that pic. She will be a great judge. She knows everything about singing and performing. Also she is hilarious and a bit crazy. :D I'm a fan.
