Lupe Ontiveros Has Died

Veteran actress Lupe Ontiveros, who appeared in scores of TV shows and movies including “Desperate Housewives,” "The Goonies," "Selena,” and “As Good As It Gets,” has died. She was 69.

Lupe was the sweetest, most generous, wonderful woman ever. To let you know what a wonderful actress she was, she portrayed Yolanda Saldivar in the movie Selena. Yolanda was an evil woman. I said to myself at the time Lupe was cast that there is no way Lupe is going to be able to get that quiet nastiness that Yolanda had, but Lupe managed to pull it off. Below, is one of my favorite Lupe moments.

  1. Oh, yes! I remember her in "Goonies!" I didn't realize she was the same lady in "Selena."

I'm sorry to hear she's passed away.

  2. She really was quite a skilled actress. She deserved so much more while she was here with us. At her age she is another gone too soon. She is an inspiration for women everywhere. RIP Lupe. Thanks for all your work!!

  6. RIP. She was wonderful in Goonies and did such a good good job in Selena, it was quite a transformation. Sorry about your friend Ent.
I read an article about her where they mentioned she was a maid in a lot of her roles and how she put a lot of heart into it when she was a maid to kind of show a solidarity with real maids. It seemed like she cared a lot about people in general.

  7. RIP Ms. Ontiveros.

She had a great and full career, I'd say very successful by anyone's standards.

  12. She was one of my favorite character actresses. One day I was bored and made a list of celebrities I would invite to dinner and she was high on the list. Rest in peace.
