Larry Wachowski Appears In Public For The First Time As Lana
It has been a long transition, but Larry Wachowski is now Lana and made her first public appearance while promoting the movie Cloud Atlas. Lana, along with her brother, co-created The Matrix series.
She looks betterh than I thought she would. But there is still a very masculine quality, even though she is trying to project feminity, seems more put on than natural. But like above, all that matters is she is happy with who she is.
She was ok but the voice is what's killing me. Walking around Chicago I see women that look like that everyday. I've worked with a few women(born female) that were just as awkward as Lana. Not all of us are graceful or pretty. IJS
I am someone who has never seen any of these people, and I wouldn't have thought twice about any of them. It thrills my heart any time people can just be who they want to be.
I will say that the way they're talking over each other (on purpose, I know - it's a thing now) is annoying.
That was really cute. I totally got that they were trying to act out what the characters are going to be doing in the movie. Being multiple dementional skipping from one life to the next, each person has a story to tell.
She is really cute as a woman! I am sure she feels liberated to be living on the outside what she has been feeling on the inside for Years.
Holy shit holy shit! You have got to go watch the trailer. I was crying and could not believe what I was seeing. This! Is going to be a movie of a lifetime! I am never excited by a movie really. But this looks stunning! The music, the sets, the actions, the drama. Stunning! Either I am a crazy and hormonal or this is really that good! :)
Henriette, They decided not to use him after the first Matrix and then decided not to pay him and pulled a bunch of weird stuff on him. SAG ended up arbitrating, but before that the -- the brothers (at that time brothers, siblings now) had Chong escorted (allegedly) from a set by armed guards with guns drawn. Plus other fuckery. I have no idea how the SAG arbitration went. I just didn't like their behavior. I loved Tank. Fire someone and honor their contract -- or so it seemed to me at the time. (That was like ten years ago, wow.)
I'm not a fan of the Sideshow Bob look, but otherwise Lana is adorable and feminine. Good for her, and may she enjoy her woman-ness for many years to come.
I work in prison and I have a male partner/officer who has just started dressing in drag at work. He is in the beginning stages of the transition. Administration told him that if he is going to identify as a woman he will be supported by them so long as he complies with the uniform standards set for women. No excessive makeup, only one set of earring studs, nude nail polish, short manicured nails, etc. I feel for the guy. Prison is a jacked up environment to begin with, no this to boot? I don't personally understand gender identity disorder but hey.....to each his/her own. If you want to live your life as the opposite sex than so be it. It isn't my business. He doesn't need my judgment. I try my best to be as nice and supportive as I can. Ultimately, we are partners and have enough negativity behind the walls. Fighting amongst each other based on things that don't adversley effect me and aren't my business, would be plain stupid. I guess I take that attitude out into the streets with me as well.
I think she's cute as a woman! I never would guess that she wasn't born a woman. Her facial feminization is amazing. Of course, she had the money to go to the best.
Anyway, she looks so happy and cute and I am happy for her!
I have no idea where this "awkwardness" is supposed to be. I think she's cute and confident with great voice. And smart as a whip. Where I live mature women artists do wear their hair like that. I went to class with a women in her late sixties with glowing orange hair, and I only noticed it the third time I met her. Apparently some of you are unaware that there are different regional norms for the way women present themselves.
I tyhink that she looks great! Ive seen plenty of people in Berkeley, Oakland and San Francisco with hair like that , too...not my favorite, but definitely nothing new.
I couldn't watch the video but I will say this. My friend went through gender reassignment and was concerned about getting a facelift. She REALLY needed to fix her smile before she did that but I just did not know how to tell her. Yeah, blond hair, huge boobs and buck teeth are what men really want.
isn't it sad that people feel trapped by their own body? just to wake up everyday and wish you were different in every way sounds awful. i wish her well.
Alright, I still don't get it....she is not an attractive woman...I hope she's happy.

ReplyDeleteThat was awkward to watch! The movie sounds like shit too. They were trying to hard to be "cute."
ReplyDeletegood for her.
ReplyDeleteShe sounds like a deeper-voiced version of Kristen Schaal. In any case, she seems pretty comfortable with herself to me.
ReplyDeleteShe looks completely joyous. What better look is there?
ReplyDeleteCan't stand these people after the Marcus Chong stuff. Changing genders won't make me like them any better.
ReplyDeleteOk, just my two cents -
ReplyDeleteI am someone who has never seen any of these people, and I wouldn't have thought twice about any of them. It thrills my heart any time people can just be who they want to be.

I agree with you Smashbash!
ReplyDeleteThanks! :)
DeleteLarry (Lana) sounds like Illeana Douglas. Has some of Illeana's awkward "smiling while nervous"-isms, too...
ReplyDelete@Barton Fink
ReplyDeleteWhat happened to Marcus Chong? I know should google it, but...
My hubs LOVES The Matrix. I thought those movies were shit and Keanu couldn't carry them. Heck, I thought he was a machine.
Love matux, love keanu
ReplyDeleteI rather like the look of happiness and confidence on another human being. Best wishes to Lana.

You'd think that for the cost of sex reassignment surgery, they'd at least throw in a decent hairstyle.
ReplyDelete@DueDiligence, I was thinking the same thing, as well as getting her teeth fixed. She is actually better looking as a female than as a male.
ReplyDeleteLana seems like she wandered off an ep of Portlandia.
ReplyDeleteLoved the book, so looking forward to this movie.
ReplyDeleteAnd I wish her happiness.

ReplyDeleteJust watched it and she seems so happy, and that is really all we should want for each other
ReplyDeleteThanks, Smash, based on your rave I watched the trailer and it was incredible!
ReplyDelete:) fab!

ReplyDeleteI don't know and I don't care as long as I did not have to pay $$ for it:)
ReplyDeleteWell I'm pretty certain the price of sex change surgery doesn't include dental work or hair styling.

ReplyDeleteThanks! They were nutty to him. They had enough money to pay him. I have never been a fan of their's and never will be.
I always found them pretentious and phony. Especially considering how much they stole from Joseph Campbell's The Hero with a Thousand Faces.
Wow... the trailer looks like the movie could become a favorite! I hope it lives up to my expectations... Thanx, Smashbash!
ReplyDeleteInteresting...I would not have known Lana was not born that way...however..
ReplyDeleteTo second #DueDiligence.....she still needs some coaching from those of us born to pee sitting down...that hair style looks like a bloody cat.
The novel the movie is based on by David Mitchell is really good. A pretty confusing read, but pretty good.

ReplyDeleteThe Chong story is interesting and new to me. Again, thanks to CDAN readers for info.
ReplyDelete@bookjacket
ReplyDeleteThe "awkwardness" comes from the whole set-up. It looks fake and phony. It has nothing to do with Lana.
I tyhink that she looks great! Ive seen plenty of people in Berkeley, Oakland and San Francisco with hair like that , too...not my favorite, but definitely nothing new.

ReplyDeleteTotally love your attitude! ITs a shame there aren't more people like you around!
