Kile Glover Taken Off Life Support

Usher's 11 year old stepson, Kile Glover was taken off life support earlier this weekend and passed away. Doctors said he would not be able to recover from the injuries he suffered when he was hit by a jet ski by Jeffrey Hubbard. Mr. Hubbard is a friend of the family and is being investigated by police into the death. I don't know if it is because he had been drinking or acting negligently. Tameka Foster, the boy's mother finally agreed to take her son off life support. That is such a tough decision to make because you think to yourself that if you just wait as little longer, then maybe something will change and that the doctors are wrong. The problem is she also could not afford to keep him on it any longer which also makes you feel bad.

  6. Jet ski accidents are on the rise and have devastating results. This poor little one, RIP.

  7. This is completely devastating. My symPathy goes out uo the family.

  8. I don't understand the statement about being able to "afford" life support. I would think a more complete truth here is that, because doctors had declared him conclusively brain dead, insurance was unwilling to continue covering the cost of life support, and the family couldn't afford to provide indefinite care to him in a vegetative state.

I would think the stories you hear about people coming out of comas after long periods of time on life support would be those determined to still have brain activity. Any one with knowledge on this out there?

Blessings and peace to this family. So, so tragic.

  9. RIP little guy. I have to say I've greatly admired how Usher has been supportive of Tameka through this. Classy.

  10. I highly doubt she couldn't afford it and I'm certain Usher would have contributed if the docs said he could have recovered. THis is very sad and to make that statement at the end is really inappropriate!

    1. Could not agree more! I find it very hard to believe that Usher would not have stepped in had the child's survival been optimistic.

  11. Exactly I'm sure Usher would have stepped up to the plate on the $$$.
I can't imagine having to make this decision.

  12. The MDs are really careful about determining brain death and if not sure, money wouldn't come into it. As someone above said insurance company might have refused to cover but MD would NEVER pull plug without family ok.. I hope if possible organ donation was considered

  13. I've been giving this some more thought. I worked in pediatric cardiology for almost 20 years. I saw kids on full life support long after the plug should have been pulled because the parents weren't ready to concede yet. I don't know how insurance entered into it, but I do know that if insurance didn't cover it, the hospital would eat the cost. I've never met an MD who would take ANYONE off life support without the consent of the family, insurance be damned.

In pediatrics, we had a lot of inservices on how to deal with parents of critically ill kids. One thing that was impressed on us was that, if a child is dying, the parents need to be able to look back later and be able to say "I was a good mommy (or daddy)" And if it took some extra days or a week to come to terms with that, that's what we did. Most MDs would be very realistic with the parents, blunt but kind. If this woman is saying she took her kid off life support because she couldn't afford it, she's lying - either to the public or to herself.. I just do not believe it. Perhaps that's what she's telling herself so she doesn't blame herself for giving the MDs permission to stop life support. I had to make this decision with my dad. It's a decision I wouldn't want my worst enemy to make, especially in the case of a child.

  15. so sad RIP Kile. my friend made a decision that cost him his life on his 18th birthday 5 years ago and he was declared brain dead and his parents took him off life support 5 days later it's just heartbreaking for a parent to have to make that choice but they donated his organs so i know he still lives on.

  16. RIP little guy, very sad.

I agree with @Susan B, the hospital where my husband works eats the humongous costs of indigent babies and children every day. Dr's don't pull plugs, families do.

  18. I also think it is quite inappropriate that the mother (or whoever) said that they took the boy off life support because they couldn't afford it. That is a truly distasteful, manipulative statement to make. That said, I still feel terrible for the family.

  19. IDK...I kinda feel like at least she had time to come to terms with the reality that his time had come. Even though it's nothing but tragic all around.

My prayers are with the mother. Bless her. My God, I can't even imagine.

  20. Perhaps she meant she couldn't "afford' to keep him on life support any longer if his organs were going to be donated--IIRC, after a long enough period on life support, the various organs begin deteriorating past the point where they can be used for transplantation. At least, I hope that's the case...

RIP little man, and hope you're keeping an eye out for your mama wherever you are now. :-(

  21. I think it was TMZ that said her insurance was running out and Usher had not offered to keep him on life support beyond that, and Tameka didn't consider Usher to be a viable financial option in this situation.

So I don't think Enty's statement is entirely inaccurate.

  23. I feel bad for everyone in this situation. As a mother, I would want to die myself than live without my child and poor Mr. Hubbard has to live with this heartbreaking burden the rest of his life....

  24. God bless and keep him and his family. No parent should ever have to bury a child.

  25. If someone is brain dead, there is no sense in keeping them alive by artificial means. I have never understood why a parent wants a child to be kept alive by a machine. The essense of who that child was is gone. Why prolong the agony? Such a tragic situation. No parent should ever outlive their child.

  27. That's so sad....deree I'd imagine some parents can't let go and who can blame them? They still have hope, I get that...this is just sad I also found the last sentence a little odd, especially to end with enty, are u implying something or not?

  28. My 78 year old aunt was on life support last year. That was the very last thing she wanted. She was in horrible pain for years and begged to die. My cousin never gave her living will to the doctors because she wasn't ready to let go. It was a hideous situation. I don't know whether or not Tameka Foster had the money to keep her son on life support or not but she must have realized that sadly the situation was hopeless.
