Jennifer Lopez Makes it Official - Leaving Idol
The pressure is now on Randy Jackson as Jennifer Lopez confirmed yesterday that she is joining Steven Tyler in leaving American Idol. I don't think Randy Jackson wants to leave. I think he is perfectly happy traveling around the country and then sitting behind a table two nights a week for a couple of hours and getting paid millions of dollars to do it. Would you ever leave that job? Honestly, who would want to leave that job? I wouldn't even be greedy about it. I bet Paula Abdul still kicks herself every single day for giving up that job. Do you think Paula is making $15M a year now? I think she probably makes about $1M and it all comes from royalties and the occasional "concert." What Idol is showing though is that the show can continue no matter who is a judge so why spend bazillions of dollars on judges? Did you know all the judges on So You Think You Can Dance before it started? Why do you watch? Because it is a good show. Why should the judges be the stars of the show? The first season of Idol, the only person you had heard of was Paula. Maybe Randy if you were a Journey fan, but you probably had not. People watched in record numbers. At some point though, producers have decided the judges are what gets people to watch, but history suggests they are wrong.
Hilarious if they called her bluff on a salary bump.
ReplyDeleteIdiotic if she actually gave up this job, regardless of money.
On another note there's been rumors they might bring Katy Perry on to be a judge and I'm hoping so bad they do. Does anyone remember when she was a guest judge a while back? Girl threw major shade and wasn't afraid to pull out the bitch card.
ReplyDeleteI am a total sytycd junkie but I stopped watching AI when Chris Daughtry was voted off. Oh, and I can't stand j lo. She's insufferable.
ReplyDeleteNot that I'm a huge Adam Lambert fan, but I do like the idea of bringing back a former contestant who has had some success and can bring it with their comments and personality. Hmmmm, who would be a good 3rd judge??
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, why would you EVER walk away from that easy money? Particularly when you have kids? Silly J-LO
The Problem with all this casting shows around is that there is an "idols" and "stars" inflation. Nearly as bad as reality stars.

ReplyDeleteI don't know if you are still reading this thread, but I wanted to say that I feel like an idiot with all the suggestions I was making the other day in regards to your struggle. It really came from a place of care and concern, but it was obviously over-simplifying a complex issue. I hope you're having a great weekend, and you always hold a special place in my heart because I love your posts and you were the first CDaNer to ever comment on something I said :) Love to you
No big loss, JLo was a poor "judge".
ReplyDeleteShe is beyond stupid to think that she actually has a career outside of this show however.
Barry Manilow was a very good coach,
Adam could be very good, the best judge in any week is Jimmy, he tells them the truth.
Randy should stay until they pry him out of the chair. Good gig!
I can't believe that J-Lo would leave such a job. She was making something like $11 million or more a year for a few months work. She couldn't fit her "other" things around that.
ReplyDeleteAnd Randy is useless. He should have been shown the door years ago. I don't find anything that he says to be useful critique. At least once a show he would name drop "I worked with Mariah, Whitney ..." He's irrelevant and overpaid.
Is there anyone on here still watching Duets? Kelly Clarkson is actually a really good judge. Now that would be some good casting ... or even Carrie Underwood. But they are definitely "stars" that have something going on ... Good Luck J-Lo. You probably should have called Paula Abdul before making your final decision.
G that is absurd, preposterous...Randy would only namedrop his former co-workers every other week.
ReplyDeleteThe new judges should be Randy, Randy's Donut, and the weird kid with the illness that lip synchs to music.
I think it was killing her that she was being better known for a judge on a reality show than for being a movie star, recording artist, perfume, fashion designer. Except no one was going to her movies or listening to her music befor joining AI.
ReplyDeleteI think in 2 years when all the yes people leave she is going to realize what a mistake she made (anybody remember the name Brian Dunkelman)
You will have to pry Randy from his cold dead hands from that juding chair.
I won't miss J Lo at all. She used that show as her own personal infomercial. I was so tired of seeing her over hyped performances pushing her music. And I'm pretty sure she lip synced, which is ironic when you are judging live singers. Good riddance.
ReplyDeleteThe Wrap is saying she was fired because she wanted a raise to $17 million.
ReplyDeleteShe's a fool
ReplyDeleteshe says she wants to get back to other things? umm, like what? Your career was dead in the water, and thats what u want o go back to? Mistake!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure she said "You need to pay me more than Britney or I'll walk" and they called her bluff. Her ego couldn't handle it if she made less than Brit. And there would be a gazillion articles about it: "J.Lo fails to best Britney."
ReplyDeleteIn other news, IDGAF
ReplyDeletei hope so bad they cancel that shit.
ReplyDeletein other news, wtf does randy have to do with Journey? i thought he was a R&B random? *shrugs*
Stick a fork in it already! This crapfest has been dead for a while. I can barely name an AI winner. You know it's bad when the first AI winner is on a competing talent contest! Geez!
ReplyDeleteThey need to pack up this show. It ran it's course about 5 seasons ago!
ReplyDeleteWhat would Paula Abdul be getting royalties from? Did she write any of those crap songs of hers? I know she barely sang them.
ReplyDeleteI have some friends at 19 and they say that both of them weren't going to be asked back next season. They gave them both the option to say they were leaving rather than admit bad ratings forced them out.
ReplyDeletewell they did call her bluff on salary and Steve Tyler's option wasn't even picked up. In other words, they didn't quit, they were dumped.

econeywaaa, got any good So You Think You Can Dance gossip from your friends? :)
ReplyDeleteI disagree that the judges didn't make a diff in the beginning. I started watching American idol the first season bec of Simon. At that time, his brand of frank criticism with a twist of sarcasm was unheard of. At least, I'd never seen anything like it. It was my morbid fascination with his unabashed rudeness that drew me in like a moth to a flame. ;) I completely lost interest in Idol after he left and I haven't really followed it closely since Season 7.
ReplyDeleteABout simon: you can be critical and insightful without being cruel. I still say robert blake wld be a great judge!!!!!! Lollolololol. Imagine? "You took ya eye off the sparrow, my friend. I'm stroking back here, charlie potatoes!". Classic!
ReplyDeleteThis picture is clearly JLo in the middle, and "JLo in 10 years" on the left.
