In Other Disturbing Baby News

Guess who can't wait to get married and have a baby? If you guessed Miley Cyrus, then pat yourself on the back. I never really understood that. I mean, I understand the term, but it is really difficult to pat yourself on the back. Why not just look in the mirror and in a variety of voices tell yourself that you did a good job. It is way better than trying to reach up and pat yourself on the back and having to stare at the underside of your armpit and probably getting a cramp from a movement your body has never felt. Anyway, Miley is really excited about this whole marriage thing and wants to get pregnant as quickly as possible Not sure why. She is 19. She is three years removed from being the special celebrity on teen mom. I guess it would give her something to do since she only has a couple of more chances in the acting department and has no records or anything else going on. The more she sits at home alone, the more tattoos she gets. I keep expecting to wake up one morning and not be able to tell the difference between her and Travis Barker.

  6. She worked so hard on her abs, doesn't she know that's never coming back if she breeds?

I don't understand (no hate here, just don't get it) why anyone would be in a hurry to have children. I swore I'd never have kids, but changed my mind at 30. THIRTY. I did a whole bunch o' livin' in the time between my teen years and 30. I highly recommend it.

  7. Em, I'm 32 and I STILL don't want kids. But I totally agree with you. Most of the rednecks I grew up with thought life was high school --> junior college --> marriage --> children. All before they were 23.

    1. this is so true! i'm 23 and when i graduated high school it was almost like my friends didn't know what to do with their lives so they just got married and started having kids. i'm still in college and won't be done for 2 more years and that is fine with me i'm in no hurry to have kids. i want a career, i don't want to end up like my friends working at the drive thru trying to support their 3 kids b/c they married a deadbeat. marriage and kids can wait go to school and get a real career while you're young. a fast food job is just supposed to get you by in high school, it shouldn't be a long term career and it's sad that so many people let their lives end up like that

same for most of my childhood friends, Vicki. except for them it was their Christian Duty to marry the first man (?) they dated and get to making little Xian babies. so sad. lucky for me i dodged that bullet--i think being a professional mom is sufficient. almost 34, no kids & no regrets :)

  8. Dear Miley. I'm trying really hard not to say mean things about you. This is a bad idea. Go to therapy first. Having a baby has never saved a relationship or made someone whole. It's not a doll. Go to therapy.

  10. oh Miley.

I didn't have my little boy til I was 33. And that was by accident (albeit a very happy one); some days I still don't feel ready. But I do have friends whose kids just graduated from high school. Of the five...only one is still with the father of the child.

  13. @Vicki - I don't have kids yet either and I'm late 30's. I got to raise my 3 siblings during my teenage years and told my mom I already had kids. I would probably be a great mom too. Just can't do it yet.

I help other ladies get preggers instead, so I guess it balances out.

  14. You guys are obviously not getting why this is a FANTASTIC idea. No one is really interested in Miley anymore, but if she has a baby right away, she is just 14 short years away from getting a new show on the Disney channel. She can play the mother (a former musician) and her son or daughter will play a teenager that struggles through the difficulties of adolescence while coming into their own through their singing talents.

If that isn't a GREAT reason to have a kid, then I don't know what is.

Miley wanting a baby has nothing to do with being a redneck or hillbilly. It has everything to do with her wanting to be loved and wanting someone to love her just for herself. It's a cry for help, IMO.

  16. It's interesting how upbringing/socioeconomic status/education all play roles in when people get married and have children.

People who get Bachelors, Masters, and other post-graduate degrees take longer to get married because they need a little time on their own before they settle down; statistically, the longer someone stays in school, the older they are when they eventually marry.

Likewise, people with high school educations get married much sooner because they've had the requisite time to establish themselves as adults. This is why lots of people in lower-income areas get married young.

Miley Cyrus is rich as can be, but what education does she have? She's been rich since she was, what, 11? Her family is essentially blue collar with a ton of money, like the Beverly Hillbillies. I imagine that Enty is right, that she doesn't really have much else going for her, so why not have a baby? It's what she knows.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Poor girl. She probably doesn't know what to do with herself. She worked like a little adult from the time she was what, 12 or something?

I agree with dia, therapy is a great idea. And how about college? I assume she has a GED or something. Little sister needs to broaden her horizons and figure herself out.

And I also agree with Vicki - total small Southern town mindset (could be all small/rural towns - I only have experience w/the south). Bless her heart :-).

I feel sorry for Miley and so many of these young kids that grew up in the spotlight. Miley has been getting media attention since she was around 12. She's become addicted to that. So if she's not getting attention, she's going to do something crazy to make sure everyone is talking about her. Then she can yell at them on her Twitter.

  19. @Layna Day, nail on the head! My parents eloped when they were 18. I think it was partially because neither one wanted to have sex until marriage (super good Methodist girl and reasonably good Catholic boy), but it was also because my mom's parents were divorced, she felt abandoned by her mother, and this way she could create the family that she wanted. Miley, too, probably just wants to create her own family and always have her babies who will love her.

    ReplyDelete

Blaming small town mindsets is very insulting, IMO. Lots of big city teenagers have babies, too, and they're nowhere near as rich as Miley.

    1. Thank you Layna. The ignorance and pretentiousness of this thread is infuriating. Not everyone wants to go to college and have a career. Some people wait their whole lives to be mothers and furthermore not everyone who becomes a young mother is uneducated or a "hillbilly". I know very young women who have started families already who got their degrees but just want to be moms. I live in mega liberal, non hillbilly New Jersey too.

  21. I agree with y'all that she just doesn't know.what to do next. She's already lived alot of life at just 19. I hope she chooses wisely.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Not to say I agree with her thoughts, but why wait until she's married? She could get pregnant any time she wants essentially. Personally I think she already could be. She is young, but then again, she's not exactly a poster girl for making good decisions.

  24. Anonymous7:45 AM

No hurt feelings, Frufra. But the small town people = gap-tooted hicks is SO cliche. It bugs more than anything. :-D

I think my biggest issue with "Miley is just a redneck" meme is that Miley has lived in and around Hollywood or Nashville her entire life. Her parents may be from small towns, but Miley isn't. She's always had access to money and the entertainment industry. She simply isn't as 'hickdified' as some would suggest.

So her wanting to have a baby--if true--seems to stem from wanting something concrete in her live. She doesn't have that, with Hannah Montana a distant memory, her current career stalling, and a boyfriend who's going to blow past her fame-wise.

    ReplyDelete
  25. @Layna Day, I'm sorry if I sounded insulting because I really wasn't trying to be. Having babies young certainly happens just as often in cities as it does in small towns. It just seems more common that people with less education after high school choose to get married/start families young compared to people with more education. I don't think that it has anything to do with the character or intellect of the people in question (because more schooling does not equal more intelligence) just how soon they can financially afford that stage of life.

As for the Cyrus family, I don't think that Miley was raised in a way that encouraged her to go to college or do anything except be a celebrity. That's not a slam on small town mindsets, but a slam on her parents who didn't raise her to do or be more than she already is at 19.

  26. Layna, I agree that she's been in Hwood or Nashville, but I imagine her fame has made her life very isolated. I don't think (but don't know) that she ever went to an actual school, for example. So, like all of us, she probably looks to her parents for the roadmap to adulthood. I know I put a lot of pressure on myself to find a husband. My mom married at 19, and I felt like that was my deadline as well. It's dumb in retrospect, but it was all I knew as a kid.

Ok, looked it up - she did go to elementary school in TN. Moved to Hwood at age 12.

  27. It's her and Liam's choice really, I mean I can't judge, I was a young mum, right before I turned 19 I had my first baby, I know what u all are saying bout doing stuff first but to me that doesn't compare to my kids, the joy I receive from them, I know I wont be on my death bed thinking of other places, ill be thinking of my kids, and in Miley's case she may feel she has done a lot, just thought I'd give another perspective :) don't know if Miley is that deep though haha

    ReplyDelete
  28. There's a lot of talk of higher education, but let's be honest. Most people pursue higher education as a means to an end. Education=job=money. Miley can buy and sell us all here, and many times over.
What Miley needs is a job. The kid has been working since she was 12 or so, now finds herself losing public interest and feeling bored. She's following her fiancé around, but doesn't have anything but pilates to keep her occupied. Of course if she started a family she would know what to do with herself, that's quite a long term plan for Miley, not to mention that Hollywood girls are turning pregnancy into a moneymaker now.

    ReplyDelete
  29. @Ashlea - so you know very young uneducated women that love to breed?

You better wake up girl and realize that if you as a young woman don't earn a good, steady salary and have a college degree, you will be on food stamps in no time. Don't expect the husband/boyfriend to support your breeding needs. It's ignorant women like you who expect the government to bail you out because you're too damn lazy/ignorant to use contraception.

Wait till you can give your children the best that he world has to offer. It cost more than $200,000 to raise a single child, google this to educate yourselves more.

And no, Miley Cyrus is not your poster child, she is wealthy, entitled and does not need a man to support her and her child. And can afford as much help as she needs, and still get a college degree!

Sorry, about this rant, I'm just really tired of weak/dumb young women.

Please realize that not everyone falls into stereotypes.

  37. there isnt anything wrong with having a family young I did. But if you're having a family because you want the next thing, thats wrong. She's young- travel, do some volunteer work, read, go to museums, find out who YOU are before having little ones. Like I said, what is the rush? we all know once that sperm meets that egg, YOUR life is over, and now its all about your child. Everything. Where u ive, where u work, everything. And yes, that is my standard spiel to teenage girls bout motherhood, lol Just saying, slow down, smell the roses so to speak, otherwise you will divorced at 27 with 2 kids, having to get back out on the road to support them.

  47. I don't see this as all that weird, although the headline made me think she was already pregnant...

She's 19. So what? She's young, but she's been supporting her family from the time she was a pre-teen. She's rich, successful, and has the power to do what the hell she wants, when she wants. There are way worse things she could be wanting to do with her life.

I don't know about all of you, but when I was 19, I was eager to get married and start a family because I had fallen in love. Unfortunately, my boyfriend didn't share the excitement, and left me shortly after my 20th birthday. I was absolutely devastated for years.

The point is none of us knows what the future will bring. All we do know is that she certainly has the financial means to support a child, which is more than most young mothers can say.

Also, just because someone has a college degree doesn't mean they are a better parent. Sometimes the last person on earth you'd think would be a good parent turns out to be the best one for the job.

Better her than Kate Major, I guess, is the crux of my rebuttal.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I doubt she wants a baby. She just lost all that weight and she's young.

    What tattoos?

    ReplyDelete
  49. @Topper -

A college degree doesn't make a good parent - Patience, groudedness and commitment makes a good parent. What exactly about Miley makes you think she has any of those?

Another thing that makes a good parent? Having good parents yourself so you can learn from their example. What about Miley makes you think that the fools who spawned her know to put milk in a fridge or a wet, cool sack?

Sure, she has the financial means to support a child. That has even less to do with being a good parent than having a college degree.

Your logic is, "Well, she's rich and bored, might as well get married and start popping them out." The fuck kind of thinking is that?

If you're rich and bored, get out of your holly wood bubble and finish your high school. Spend a few years in college, see if there's some courses you like. Hire a good body guard, grab your two best friends and go spend a year back packing around Europe.

Then when you're 25-26 and you say, "yeah, I feel my life would be more fulfilled if I have a child", okay, maybe you're right. But if your reasoning is "I'm bored and I want someone to love me", gtfo.

    ReplyDelete
  50. @Topper-
Your reasoning is highly flawed. A college degree does not make a better parent, but most with college degrees are OLDER. There is a stabililty that comes with age, usually. Also, most college educated are used to delayed gratification. I seriously doubt Miley is use to that!

I can't believe so many people are saying she should have a kid at 19! Are you people serious? Do any of you people remember what 19 was like? Do we need a Britney Spears 2.0?

Miley has already shown her lack of judgement on many occasions. Does anyone really want her to have a kid? Do we need another screwed-up person on the planet?
