13 Year Old Takes Six Bullets To Save Friend

So, when you were 13 years old, would you have jumped in front of your friend to save them from a bunch of gunfire that was headed their way? Well, Rony Monzon of Chicago did. He and his long time friend were sitting on the porch of a house when two gangs started shooting at each other. Rony and his friend were caught in the middle and Rony jumped on his friend to save her. In the process, Rony got shot six times. He managed to get into the house and called 911 and was rushed to the hospital and he lived.

  1. Is it weird that I want them to get married in about 12 years? Great story - what a brave young man. He obviously loves her :)

  2. OMG!!! Somebody needs to set up a trust fund for this kid. And, yeah, they should totally get married.

What the hell is going on in Chicago? Is it the 24-hour news cycle just needing things to report or has there been more violence than usual this year?

  3. What a brave kid. He speaks like he's 13 going on 30. I hope that he survives the hell on earth he's growing up in and turns into a productive adult.

  4. At first my reaction was That's amazing! Then I felt sick that these children were exposed to such a terrifying event. And how can you be shot six times and live? And now I'm just stunned that this child knows bravery so young.

  10. OMG Sunny! I came on here to write THE EXACT SAME THING!

I know it's skeevy to scope out potential husbands when the age difference is between 13 yrs old and 29 (me) BUT my first thought was: this is the type of man I'd like to marry (when he becomes a man that is). You dont find people like this anymore. This kid's a savage. SO glad he survived. :)

  11. I want someone to raise money for him and I would like him and the girl to get married when they are of legal age. If I guy did that for me I would love him forever. I hope I never have to do with something like that ever in life.

  13. Them getting married would be such a lovely story, but my fav outcome (yes I'd love them to be married but too!) is for the two of them to fight gang violence together. Imagine how kids ears would perk up at this story? This kid has earned all the street cred he needs and in such a way that he will be taken seriously by both good and bad sides.

  14. She would have no chance in any argument they got into as a married couple.

"I don't do enough housework? Dammit, I took six bullets for you woman!"

  15. Public outrage over a woman being bullied by children raised almost half a million dollars. Hopefully this young man's act of heroism and selflessness will capture the hearts of the public as well. Half a million dollars could help his family (and the young woman's family) move out of this dangerous neighborhood, put money aside for college and give them a chance for bright futures.

  20. He's amazing but can you imagine how terrified he felt every single time a bullet went through him? six bullets? The pain he was in? It breaks my heart to think of a 13 year olds terror and that this is his life. Yeah, he is a great kid, Im on board the love story too and she's a tool if she doesn't 'get' what he did for her. It probably wont really sink in for a while.

  22. @Vicki Cupper It's not the news cycle at all. In 2010 Chicago was named a murder capital of the world for its gun violence. Almost every weekend anywhere from 35-60 people were shot and about 10-15 people were murdered. At one point the city planned to call in the National Guard, but for some reason they ultimately decided not to.

The Summer of 2011 had a marked decrease in violence. This summer there's a marked increase in violence, but still not as much as in 2010. Most of the shootings occur in isolated areas of the South Side and the vast majority are gang related.

  26. Iwinjen, that kind of comment is appropriate when you're on the Fox News website, not here. We mostly try to avoid starting a political shistorm of a fight.

  27. Not that this in any way lessens his act of heroism, but I'm pretty sure he got hit by three bullets - all three through and through (so six holes total). One narrowly missed his heart and lungs, one went through his lower side and the third went through his arm.

  30. Why would you have your child in such an environment?
Haul ass to hick city USA is what I say

Sheesh, I lived in Detroit for 4 years and I wouldn't even take my DOG back to that hellhole.

  31. It's sad what instincts and survival skills these kids have to learn in that type of environment. Something really needs to be done in Chicago, it's just unacceptable...I say this as a form Chicagoan who loves the city deeply and will always call it home.

  32. Wow Ablake, what a great idea, I'm sure most people living in a horrible area are there because they can afford to move, like you did, but just don't want to. *rolls eyes* Dude, seriously?!

  33. I used to ask myself why any kid in their right mind would sign up for the military but if your chances in Iraq are about the same as they are in Chicago, but you actually get paid for it, what the heck. Yes, Chicago is bad. The body count (and that may sound like a coarse expression but the Chicago Sun TImes basically posts one about every weekend on the Crime blog) is about the same as a war zone. If we could just invest more in the schools without the city fat cats stealing it, maybe we wouldn't be spending so much on funerals and damn prisons.
