The advice my mom always gave me if someone tried grabbing me- scream bloody murder. Glad that girl got away and I hope they find that sick bastard.
ReplyDeleteomg thats so scary!
ReplyDeleteThey teach kids (now) to scream, to draw attention to themselves.
ReplyDeleteI can't watch this again. What a nightmare. He just PICKED HER UP! *shudders*
I hope they catch this sick fuck.
ReplyDeleteWow, smart girl. I've always wondered why people don't drop when someone does that. It seems that it would be harder to deal with dead weight.
ReplyDeleteGlad this had a happy ending, hope they get the guy.
This has been running on our local news all morning and it's scary as heck.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, ten is much too young to be out walking alone with a two year old. That little girl and her brother are incredibly lucky and I am so happy they are okay, but moms need to keep a tighter rein on their kids.
It's Philly for God's Sake!
JJ I was wondering the same thing. Who is letting these children out alone? I tend to be over-protective with regard to everyone in my life, but c'mon.
ReplyDeleteOh my god. My heart is pounding watching that. I hope they catch him and he gets everything that he deserves. Over and over again.
ReplyDeleteThey probably went to a neighborhood store, have done it dozens of times. This time, there was a creep waiting. He may have followed the girl, studied her movements. Sickos do that.
ReplyDeleteWe shouldn't judge the parents. We don't know the circumstances under which the children walked to the store. And again, they've probably done it before with no problems.
Omg. So scary.
ReplyDeleteThis is so scary, I really hope they catch him.
ReplyDeleteGlad that little girl was not harmed by that sick p.o.s.
ReplyDeleteBoy, they got cameras all over that town!
As the man was escaping an Ambulance happened to be coming up from behind him. Why cant they simply locate said ambulance by contacting hospitals and finding out when that ambulance was out on that particular route or something? Than the people riding in the ambulance can perhaps give a more detailed account of any part of the liscense they remembered or more accurate description of the kidnapper.
ReplyDeleteThis little girl is SO lucky- that was scary.
Also, I took a social psych class last year: it's not enough to simply YELL or SHOUT when something is happening to you. This is an erroneous idea to tell children. There are countless stories of people doing nothing when hearing a neighbor or somone on the street being killed/raped/etc. who were yelling. Because humans need to identify there is a problem and how serious it is, it's more important to yell out something serious, like FIRE! or RAPE! or KIDNAPPING! so someone can immediately tell they need to rushh and help. Glad this little girl got away, hope they find the sonfabitch.
Try telling a small child to yell RAPE! Please. You know how hard it is to explain to a child how there are good people and bad people and don't ever talk to strangers etc etc etc. the easiest thing for a child to understand is to simply yell, kick and scream. IMO
Deleteand yeah- that town is loaded up with cameras! that is some Big Brother shit right there! Orwell would be so proud ;P
ReplyDeleteWhat moronic parent lets a 10 year old watch a 2 year old???? Why are these kids alone? smh.....Lord Help!!!
ReplyDeleteNot a big fan of incessant surveillance, myself, but for once it may actually do some good if it helps find and stop this guy--because one of these times, he will succeed otherwise.
ReplyDeleteJasmine, yes, but in a self-protection class I took given by Chicago cops, they said the only thing to yell is "FIRE!" Anything else, including "HELP" and "RAPE" might well be ignored.
ReplyDeleteHORRIBLE! It seemed like the kidnapper just kind of gave up and dropped her though? It was like he had her and changed his mind. Strange and so scary!
ReplyDeleteThat is so scary. I am so proud of it when a young person has the ability to save themselves. She did the right thing every step of the way.
ReplyDeleteI think by 10 I was walking quite a distance to and from school by myself or riding my bike sometimes. My mom was pretty cautious for the first year or so that I walked to school--more than once she shadowed me and caught me not looking both ways when crossing the street--but by 10, I think except in bad weather I walked on my own. Course I was 10 in a much safer time.
Glad the little girl is ok, and the little brother. What a scary experience. Normally I don't favor surveilence cameras but I'm glad they had them in this case. Hope they catch this creep.
Figgy, I was just about to say that. I've always heard yelling "rape" is guaranteed to get ignored. Nice, huh?
ReplyDeleteTen is entirely too young to be walking around alone, especially with a 2 year old. No matter what the circumstances.
@Car54, despite what the media tells you by all measurements now is actually a much safer time than when we were kids. It is just that attacks like this get a lot more media play than they used to so you think they are happening more.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Justice/2012/0109/US-crime-rate-at-lowest-point-in-decades.-Why-America-is-safer-now
Having said that, the video is terrifying to watch as a parent, and the little girl was very clever and brave. I hope they catch the bastard and he gets all that is coming to him.
I live in Philly in a neighborhood where people let there children MUCH younger than 10 years old play outside ALONE until almost midnight each night. IT IS MINDBLOWING TO ME. I am suprised it doesnt happen more. There are 3 year olds toddling in the street in front of my house with out an adult in site daily.
ReplyDeletePhilly is really good about posting these videos from various cameras to find people who have committed crimes, it is starting to happen more and more and sadly and shockingly most of the robbery tapes are in broad daylight in what are generally thought to be "safe" neighborhoods.
ITA wwax. And they show things like this more just to keep people afraid. Worked for me.
ReplyDeletei hope that guy goes straight to hell. catch him soon!!
ReplyDeleteFor all we know, the little brother may have ran after her sister and she decided to bring him along.
ReplyDeleteInteresting that a multi-millionaire like Sly is given a semi-pass for possibly ignoring his child, but someone about whom we know nothing is not.
I realize that the situations are different. Sage was grown, these kids are not. But we have no idea what was going on with their family.
If it comes out that the parents are flakes, I stand corrected. But jumping to they're morons who don't protect their kids is harsh. We don't know.
I'm sure even if they did find that ambulance, it would be doubtful they noticed the car. Think about all the cars you saw today, would you remember them?
ReplyDeleteThe other day I was walking home from work and I passed a hotel that has balconies. Some dumbfucks were outside and one thought it the height of hilarity to scream, "stop, I don't want you to do that!" and shit like that. Fucking idiots. It's shit like that that makes people ignore screaming. I live downtown and can hear the bar scene at night (doesn't bother me usually) but every night, you will hear at least one idiot girl scream. It's never anything.
So all to say, I've also been told to scream "FIRE!"
Also, where the hell are all the people? So weird that there is absolutely no one out.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm not a car expert but judging by the back of the car, it's early 2000s; that's when they started making them with that lip.
I just wanted to say goodbye to everyone here. I love the site, but all the bad postings are just too much for me. I am so happy this girl got away and that's not in question, it's that I come here for gossip. If I wanted heavy-duty news, I would go to CNN or HuffPo or whatever outlet. I can opt to skip over them, which I usually do, but they're increasing daily and I can't take it anymore.
ReplyDeleteau revoir pee wee!
I stand by my claim. There is NO reason a 10 year old should be watching themselves let alone a 2 year old. Yep, their parents are idiots. Lord help the children.
ReplyDeleteEveryone has the right to their opinion. At least I hope so. :-/
ReplyDeleteTG, I know how you feel about such serious topics being on a gossip site. It can be a bit much, and it's even worse when you give a POV that's different from everyone else. It can get prickly, IMO.
But as some say, you're a good egg. Consider sticking around, or at least visiting! :-D
This is exactly why I applaud and support video surveillance. Parents cannot be there 24 X 7 watching their kids, I think it's more invasive when they do. I agree that 10 is a little too young to be minding her baby brother though, look at how she took off like a rocket when she had the opportunity and left the baby in the dust LOL What a relief this had a happy ending.
ReplyDeleteThey will catch him. A neighbor knows that car, sees it every day. When he goes to prison he will know what it is like to be victimized. Your day is coming, mister.
ReplyDeleteAs a mom of two, I would never allow a ten year old to watch a smaller child. There are some adults I wouldn't allow to care for my children. That being said, I am so glad this little girl is ok. It's a reminder to keep your kids close. I'm hugging my two extra tight tonight.
ReplyDelete@T-Grape, if you even see this, sorry to see you go. I agree, I don't care for the news stories and most (if not all) the blinds (because I usually don't believe them). I come here for the commentors so it sucks to see one go. All the best :)
ReplyDeleteTemp Grape- oh no! Not another long-time reader abandoning ship! Hope you re-consider sista, and if not we'll definitely miss you.
ReplyDeleteFiggy- HOLY SHITBALLS, I did not know that RAPE doesnt get as many results as FIRE!!!
I hate this world sometimes.
He turned himself in, and is under arrest.
ReplyDeleteCan I just point out that in most states it is still summer break from most kids. Are you guys aware at how much summer camps and day care services cost? Many working class parents have no choice but to depend upon older children to watch their younger siblings. This is what happens(not the abduction but the unsupervised 10 yr old and 2 yr old) with latch key kids during the summer. No need to be indignant or judgmental. It certainly is ideal but what are they suppose to do?
ReplyDeleteI personally, and this is one of my many weird quirks, make phrases out of every license place that I see. Therefore I will remember them for a short time. I have never needed this knowledge, but I do it anyway. I see HMY and I think, "Hear me yell." I see FJB and I think "Flying Jungle Boy." I see VBY and I think "Veggie Burgers, Yum." I ALWAYS do this. I turn the numbers into a date. But the end of the day, I can remember a fair number of plates I saw, at least short-term. Sometimes then I see the same car a week or so later, and I say, "Hey, they were at Chili's last week when we were there," and that strikes people as weird. Anyway, maybe kids and adults should play the same mental game, and maybe people will be caught when they try stuff like this.
ReplyDeleteSo glad the girl got away. Hope she manages the nightmares all right.
No T Grape! Sorry to see you go.
ReplyDeleteThis story pisses me off. Why was she alone with a 2 y.o. To begin with. Also, i live in Philly and this sorry is getting so much press while a black girl who was gang raped and left in a stairwell at a community center goes without an award or much media attention. It happened the night before this. She was found sobbing in a stairwell. They are offering $10000 for info about him but of the group who raped the girl, 2 have been caught and no reward has been set up for info about the others. But they're "looking". Sorry for the rant, just upset about this one.
ReplyDeleteI was catching the bus into town by myself at 12 to see movies. Wouldn't let a child do that now. Luckily nothing happened, but I have been fat my whole life and I think that helped.
ReplyDeleteTempestuous Grape, really sorry that you want to go. Please reconsider.
ParkerNosey, it is disgusting that the girl who was raped has been ignored. Thank you for bringing that to our attention.
I want to cut this scumbags testicles off.
This video makes me want to reach through the computer and punch that guy in the face. A lot. Followed up with a few more punches to the face.
ReplyDeleteI can't even imagine how scared that little girl was.
There was a horrific gang rape and murder in Sydney years ago and a farmer heard the girl's screams but assumed it was something else making that sound.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to think of what you would do in a situation like that. If the person threatens to kill you if you scream, what do you do?
Son of a bitch turned himself in. I hope he's bludgeoned to death in prison.

The problem with that is, who of us has not witnessed a child having a tantrum in a public place? Just screaming and struggling may not be enough. They need to scream words. I have been told that what they should scream is "I don't know you! I don't know him! Help! I don't know him!" Just "No!" and "Let me go!" is not specific enough. Even "You are not my dad!" is ignored because kids say that to step-parents in tantrums as well. These are things that should be taught to children in a circumspect way, not to give them a culture of fear, but to prepare them just in case.
*Sorry for generalizing to the male pronoun.*
I'm surprised he turned himself in. He probably figured it was the more preferable alternative to being caught (with the identifying marks on his car, it was only a matter of time.) Let the games begin.
ReplyDeleteAnd T Grape: Stay, and just skip over the stories you don't want to read. Your commentary is invaluable to the site (long-term fans know the comments are what make the blog, including yours!)
ReplyDelete^I agree, Robert!
ReplyDeleteDon't go T-Grape!
This story/video is terrifying. :( I am so glad she was able to get away.
Sorry but it does look like he had her and just changed his mind for some reason. I mean she sat there for a while just stunned.
ReplyDeleteI'm just surprised he did this in broad daylight!
