It wasn't so much bands when I was in high school as it was singers and groups. That said...Elvis. Followed closely by the Everly Brothers, Fats Domino, the Platters, the Drifters and Connie Francis.
Duran Duran and Spandau Ballet. I was a Simon LeBon girl. It's amazing how I can turn to almost any women my age, ask which Duran member she was a fan of, and get a legit answer back. By the end of high school, I had moved on to Kate Bush, who will always be a favorite.
It's tough to name only one, but if I had to name the biggest one for me in 10th/11th grade, it would be Gene Loves Jezebel...broke into their hotel room and the whole nine yards. I still have Jay's hair and Michael's shoes, lol.
Third Eye Blind. I thought they were the hottest shit on the planet. Still try and catch them when they come around. Have a special place in my heart for Pearl Jam too. Met my love because of them.

U2. If I could shag the Bono of the late 1970s/1980s, I totally would and Larry Mullen Jr. (the drummer) is freakin' dreamy. Disclaimer - I graduated high school in 1994, but the old school U2 has always had my heart.
And Prince....good lord, Purple Rain the album (showing my age saying that) . I marched right into the theater to see the movie. Back then, they didn't really card you for R rated movies.
Incubus. Still like them, but there is no feeling that compares to being 14-15 and falling in love with a band. You never feel that again for music like youdo when you're a teen discovering your tastes and favorite musicians. At least I think so. Still find new bands I really like, but it was just a different feeling, a passion.
I saw John Waite last fall and he did Head First and Midnight Rendezvous. I've got a video of it up on Youtube. He's so freaking awesome! The Babys were so freaking awesome!

Wow, Enty, were you spying on me last night? I totally took a trip down Memory Lane, listening to music on Youtube from my youth and watching videos that were huge back when MTV was actually all about music videos and not Snookis. I got very nostalgic and a little sad. My life sure didn't work out remotely close to what I dreamed of then!
I was a teenager in the 80's, and looooved Duran Duran in junior high school, but had moved on from them somewhat by high school. I saw her in concert when the Beastie Boys opened for her (the Virgin tour) and I remember I was rocking the whole lace and big hair slut look for the concert. The Beatles are my favorite since I learned to operate an 8-track. In high school specifically, though, Duran Duran, fo sho. John Taylor was my guy. But after Freshman year, I was dating a huge Lou Reed fan, so Velvet Underground & Beatles were pretty much my soundtrack from 15-18.
I think only CDAN friends will appreciate this TRUE TEENAGE CONFESSION here today---I was a huge Madonna fan too, from the beginning. The day she married Sean Penn, I actually wore a BLACK ARMBAND, all day. I was 15, and I was devastated b/c he was slimy and so skeevy and not nearly good enough for her.
To be fair, it was Summer and I was just hanging out with friends at home, but still, I did it. I've never told anyone because I have been rightly embarrassed, but with what I know now, my Sean Penn nausea seems pretty wise for my age back then.
Most are still my favorites today - haven't changed much! Still think the best music was alternative in the 80's early 90's. But I guess top favorites were and are The Indigo Girls, Depeche Mode, U2. But I still get my weekly doses of The Cure, Smiths, REM, and James!
No other aging punk rockers on CDAN? Tho i do love the Adam & The Ants (NOT Adam Ant) reference, that brings back some memories. The short one freaks out when I put on Kings of the Wild Frontier.
zef & frufra--- Madonna's early persona was all about female empowerment, independence etc. She was such a smartass, and cool & confident, and then she fell for Sean freakin' Penn? As a fan, something died for me that day. I eventually forgave her until she climbed up her own ass in the last decade.

Ah, yes, adolescence...

Music was a lifesaver during the teen years. I remember my mom confiscating my radio because I would fall asleep with it under my pillow. I was raised strict Mormon and she thought it was unhealthy. We also were told what music we could listen to at church - Barry Manilow, LOL. "Dreamboat Annie" was a no-no because it had the lyric, "warm waves caress her".
It was the 80s and Prince and anything out of Paisely Park! I loved the Outfield, Journey, Toto, the Cars, Meatloaf, Pat Benatar, Scandal with Patty Smyth, Foreigner, and Def Leppard.
