Winnie Cooper Files For Divorce

Somewhere out there, Kevin Arnold is smiling. Danica Mckellar, who played Winnie Cooper on The Wonder Years has filed for divorce from her husband of three years. I think it is because they spent the last year arguing about the name one of them gave their baby. Draco? Come on. See, this is what happens when you have a baby at the exact same time as the final Harry Potter installment is released. All of a sudden names you would never consider start sounding good. "Katniss you say?Oh, that's a great name. Maybe she will be President someday." Ummm, if you want your child do be President you need to stay away from names like Katniss or Voldemort. Plus, when you name your kid Draco, it could be the name of your father and grandfather and every male back down the line to when your family grunted and eating raw meat, everyone is still going to think you named them after a Harry Potter character.

  1. She's damn hot and to break up over a name is fucking stupid. I believe Danica is the big Harry Potter fan(very well could be mistaken) so I'm guessing she's the one who named their kid. Also shouldn't this be a discussion you have, oh I don't know at least 6 months to figure out?? So stupid but at least Danica is single again. Not that I have any chance but it's nice to think about.

  3. uberbaldy, a lot of people wait until they see the baby to finalize a name and see what "feels right". Though I'm not sure how Draco "felt right" in 2012 USA. If there was a huge objection by either parent, it should've been respected. My dad wanted to name me Porsche or Mercedes, but I'm glad my mom talked him out of it. I don't think he would've been happy had I become a stripper or pornstar.

  4. I don't get this Hollywood baby naming crap. That sossamon(?) chic named her son audio science. And Jason lee named his pilot inspector. I see wanting to be original but there is a fine line between unique and stupid.

  5. This divorce seems pretty smutty (sorry!) to me. I don't know, but McKellar has always seemed like the definition of trying too damn hard to me.

  6. Broad scares me w/ them crazy eyes. I'd only last a week or 2 with her, before I fled.

  7. uber...I don't think they are *really* getting a divorce over the name.

  8. I second seeing way too much 'try' in her pose and eyes. Wonder if she got a little overly famewhory for the husband to handle.

  9. Wasn't she the alleged subject of a recent blind?

  10. Sad to hear she's getting divorced. I have only seen her in a few things over the last few years and she was great in all of them (west wing, ncis, big bang, mother), but I hear she's been in a lot more since graduating. She's one smart cookie. Best of luck to her!
btw - who is Katniss? Don't recall that from HP.

  11. Is that one of those band-aid dresses?
If so, she's doing it wrong.

  12. Katniss is from "Hunger Games".

  13. I read somewhere that when she and her husband were first dating one of the things he told her was that he wanted a son named Draco or something along those lines. They were together for like 8 years before marriage and baby, just out of curiousity I wonder why marriages fail after suchh a long relationship before...

  14. Katniss isn't evil, but I see what you're saying.

    I never got the impression she's fame-whory. (I love that she's a math genius.)

  15. Draco is a legitimate name. It was the name of the first legislator in Athens and where we get the word draconian.

  16. That's too bad, I really like her. She's one smart lady.

  17. I think she's gorgeous!!!

  18. She tries too hard? Yeah, she's got a Ph.D in math, has written books on the subject, teaches college courses, and is a genius. She definitely tries too hard.

That photo is at least a month old, one of the rare times she did a red carpet in the last few years. I looked at a few others in the series. She looked uncomfortable as hell in most of them.

She was a guess for a recent blind, but she was also disputed by some as not fitting it. She's not a recluse.

  19. Danica's getting divorced? Game on! Anybody have her phone number?

  20. @bobbi_1025, even worse, I believe Jason Lee spelled his son's name "Pilot InspeKtor," with a K. For that extra fillip of ridiculousness.

  21. There is something about her in this particular photo that screams try-too-hard. But I've never been a fan, without being a hater, either. (I also thought The Wonder Years was way overrated. Heresy, I know.)

I seem to recall the choice of name having something to do with astronomy, but it was a while ago, so I'm not sure. And it could have only been speculation.

If you take into consideration the Draco of "draconian"...the name is even stupider. Draconian laws are bad, overly harsh, and that Draco was an asshole. (It is the first thing I think of, too, when I hear the name, even though I loved the Harry Potter books.)

  22. Also, no, that doesn't look like a bandage dress. I think everybody except JLH has accepted they've been stick a fork in them done to death for a few years now.

Hopefully that doesn't mean they're due to make a comeback....

  23. The Wonder Years was a great show...except for that Kevin Arnold character. Such a selfish prick(AKA The Perfect Baby Boomer).

  24. I had a crush on her growing up and may be developing it again. Damn she remains a stunner.

  25. Katniss as the name of a president doesn't sound so weird when you consider our current president is named Barack.

She is cute/hot but I fear she'd be too smart for me. I really suck at math. Had to drop physics in college. My English & literature degree has really come in handy - now I can write about Kim Kardashian and Snooki with the absolute best of them.

  26. When I first heard this, I could feel millions of men pumping their fists in unison. Danica is a CATCH for a man secure enough to handle a smart, driven partner.

  27. Has anyone seen her books? The covers are so cheesy, "how to get him to like you", I thought it was supposed to be about math. Too bad Fred Savage is married.

  28. Her twitter must have 1000's of single men that have started following her since yesterday.

And yes, I'm now one of them.

    I am a simple person.

  29. FS - PhDs, academics, authors, etc, can all be famewhores - I actually know a ton of them, although not in the math world, but in the sciences. And to be honest, you don't have to be a genius to get a PhD in any subject. Smart and dedicated, sure, but not necessarily a genius.
