There was the producer who kept wanting her to read for a part and would keep insisting that she come at the end of the day to his office. After everyone left for work. She knew what was going to happen. She knew it and knew it and told her agent she didn't want to go and why couldn't she meet the producer somewhere else. The agent told her the producer always did it that way. A soon as she got to his office and he reached for her breast she ran screaming from the office and never went back. Her agent acted like it was a big misunderstanding and he would get her another meeting with the producer. Maybe they could go to dinner or something.
She talked about the time she had agreed to do a love scene, but with no nudity and the director kept her in her trailer for three hours yelling at her that she needed to get naked for the scene to make it real. There was that word again and she was tired of it. He gave her something to take and then had sex with her and she finally agreed to get naked for the movie. There she was in front of 30 other people having sex on camera and the director yelling at her to make it more real. more sexy. He never even used the scene. It ended up on the cutting room floor. She later heard he had hours of footage of actresses from scenes just like hers that ended up in his home but never on screen. He loved the power.
After one too many gropings on set or coke being offered to her. Our actress just left. She walked away. One second she was there and one she was not. She says she has quit forever.
Good for her. I don't even really want to guess this one.
ReplyDeleteJesus God. Hollywood is evil.
ReplyDeleteIf you don't have strong back-up behind you, you're screwed.
ReplyDeleteIt sure is, disgusting. Poor girl whoever she is. It's very hard to give up your passion and she must suffer to give up her self-expression. Hate Hollywood.
ReplyDeleteWhat movie would have had an orgy scene that was cut out? This is a horrible story.
ReplyDeleteI don't think the 30 people reference was about an orgy, but about the number of people on the set. As in, she was filming a sex scene in front of 30 people.
DeleteSarah Polley came to mind...but she's been doing mini-series and stuff?
ReplyDeleteSean Young?
ReplyDeleteWho's the method man? I'm thinking Sean Penn. He's been in way too many movies and I can't stand him so I'm not slogging through all his films to see which one(s) included acting drugged out and was filmed outside of LA. I'll leave that to the exceptional detectives here!
ReplyDeleteSo in Hollywood every female and child gets abused physically and mentally and all the men in power are psychos.
ReplyDeleteWho wants to work there? No money is worth it.
Monica Belluci or what about Liv Tyler?
ReplyDeleteShe hasn't done much since 2008 and she became popular while in her late teens.
Meg Tilley?
ReplyDelete:( what a sick world...I think I'll stick to my normal middle class life. Good for her that she got out before it swallowed her whole.
ReplyDeleteHmmm Debra Winger or Jennifer Jason Leigh maybe?
ReplyDeleteMeg Tilly, interesting, what happened to her? But was she really B? I remember her starring with Rob Lowe in Masquerade.
ReplyDeleteClea Duvall? She was everywhere for a while in the late 90s and she was in 21 Grams with Sean Penn...
ReplyDeleteWinona Ryder?
ReplyDeleteMonica Belluci has been busy; Clea Duvall is a lesbian.
ReplyDelete(not that some lesbians don't sleep with men sometimes)
ReplyDeleteEmmy Rossum?
ReplyDeleteI think she stars in series shameless right? And she has been in limelight for awhile. She recently broke up with the guy from counting crows Adam duritz(sp?) I think
DeleteThinking of JJL got me thinking of Bridget Fonda, I thought she quit cus she married Danny Elfman but this could be the reason why.
ReplyDeleteWhat did happen to Clea Duvall? There is certainly more to her story.
ReplyDeleteShe has been consistently working since 96'. Is in upcoming Argo.
Deletedominique swain?
ReplyDeleteAlison Lohman? I know she's married with a kid now, but she fits the description fairly well, no?
ReplyDeleteBut JJL and Bridget Fonda have Hollywood Parents?
ReplyDeleteCould the director be Roman Polanski?
I love the Meg Tilly guess. She was on the cusp of A list-for me anyway lol
ReplyDeleteClea Duvall was in that "the Event" show. It didn't get picked up.
ReplyDeleteI like the Alison Lohman guess. She was everywhere for a few years, but hasn't been in anything since 2009.
ReplyDeleteWould Nicolas Cage be considered a method actor?
Clea Duvall has worked pretty steadily in movies and tv;
ReplyDeleteAlison Lohman might work, she worked pretty steadily up until 2009, then stopped. She has something in pre-production for 2013, but nothing else.
Just throwing a name out there what abt leelee Sobieski? Could be way off, she was famous late teens, and was all over then disappeared, has a few award nominations..
ReplyDeleteI thought of her too but she has been steady working. Was on the good wife and has another series coming out
DeleteEvangeline Lilly quit after Lost ended... one minute she was hot then she just quit. There was always talk of her doing movies but one day she walked away with no explanation. Maybe its her.
ReplyDeleteIn the upcoming hobbit movie
DeleteLara Flynn Boyle
ReplyDeleteI thought Meg Tilly too, who was fairly young in Agnes of God-- then when I read about the method actor who did drugs for a part all I could think was Jason Patric for Rush (and JJL)... but he's hardly A list, is he?
ReplyDeleteI'm on board with LeeLee Sobieski!!
ReplyDeleteWhat about Rachael Leigh Cook?
ReplyDeleteJulia Stiles?
ReplyDeleteLeelee's on that NYC 22 show.
ReplyDeleteLori Petty?
ReplyDeleteLeeLee SObieski has worked steadily and is currently on a network tv show.
ReplyDeleteRachel Leigh Cook still works pretty regularly.
I don't think we've hit it yet. This is someone who walked away completely, not someone is isn't the "it" girl anymore but still works.
Who is the A list method actor that would have needed to do crack behind an alley?
ReplyDeleteMeg Tilly had a son with Colin Firth (yummy) and has had at least 2 important husbands (in the industry)since then.
ReplyDeleteI also like the Alison Lohman guess.
ReplyDeleteNic Cage has his own method acting called "Nouveau Shamanic"
As far as the sex scene, could it have been for Drag me to hell? Horror movies and sex scenes tend to go hand in hand.
The scene may have been cut so the movie could keep it's PG13 rating.
Is it really that hard to proofread once before posting? Did Perez or his sister take over the site? Yep, I went there.
ReplyDelete/end rant
P.S. This isn't Lohman.
What A list actor did a movie as a crack addict? That might narrow it down.
ReplyDeleteJulia Stiles?
ReplyDeleteRobert DeNiro? he's a method actor..no clue who the actress is. Sean Penn too, and he's a creep, and Bobby's good friend.
ReplyDeleteThanks Misch, I didn't know that. So she knew Darcy before he came out of the lake? Well done Meg!
ReplyDeleteI am down with the Bridget Fonda guess. What sold me was the comment that if she decided to come back, she would probably still be B because of her name. The Fonda name. She has done nothing since 2002. Her marriage could be a convenient excuse for her escape from Hollywood.
ReplyDeleteI had to google Alison Lohman to refresh my memory so I don't think the average person would know her name.
Meg Tilly stops acting after her marriage with a big boss studio and now she's a professional poker gamer
ReplyDeleteEmmy Rossum is in a tv show SHAMELESS and she does tiny movies
Jennifer Jason Leigh works in theater and does 2/3 movies per year
Sarah Polley is director now (her next movie is with Michelle Williams and Seth Rogen)
Alison Lohman? nice guess. She is married(with ULTIMATE GAME's one of director) with a kid now and didn't work since 2009.
This might be stretching the timeline, but Ally Sheedy? With Sean Penn as the method actor? Her IMDB says she left Hollywood because the roles she wanted weren't there...
ReplyDeleteBridget Fonda is a great guess.
ReplyDeletePlease don't shoot me but what about RDJ for the A list crack addict?
ReplyDeleteyep Lohman/ Nic Cage is my guess for this one. Such a shame.. loved them both! Matchstick Men is an awesome movie, so is White Oleander. Speaking of which, someone I also love, Cole Hauser was her co-star in White Oleander.. they both played pretty sketchy characters in that movie, he's not A-list tho and I'd be heart broken if he did this.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that about Meg Tilly either!
ReplyDeleteIt's not Evangeline Lilly - she took time off with her b/f, had a baby, and is an elf in all the Hobbit movies.
I think Julia Stiles got some backlash after her affair with whashisname, Dexter.
FrenchGirl, pretty sure that's Jennifer Tilley. Her sister Meg was recently in the TV show Bomb Girls if I'm not mistaken.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds a lot like Bridget Fonda to me.
ReplyDeleteEvangeline Lilly also had a baby...did that movie with Jeremy Remmer, The Hurt Locker....not sure what she's up to now...
ReplyDeleteDaniel day lewis is a method actor too
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeletePhoebe Cates?
ReplyDeleteWhat about James Franco as the method actor?
ReplyDeleteIt says he was nominated for an Oscar - not that he won...
Nic Cage is an Oscar winner, acts her daddy in "Matchstick Men" and his character isn't drugged
ReplyDeleteamanda peet for the actress, john cusack for the crack smoking actor
ReplyDeleteI like that guess. Amanda was everywhere for a little while..... but I dont know because shes still around.
DeleteJulia Stiles was in the Bourne movies and was on Dexter last season. Not her.
ReplyDeleteMarla Sokoloff for the actress.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah Nerners - Bridget Fonda, and Tarantino as the director (for Jackie Brown)? I haven't seen it, so I don't konw if a sex scene would have made sense in the movie...
ReplyDelete@Jewells: you're right i confuse the sisters's history
ReplyDeleteJennifer Tilly is the poker player, not Meg
ReplyDeleteI think the Bridget Fonda guess is the best lead so far, especially due to the "name" thing, like Carolyn said. Off to do more research. Whoever it is, she kicks ass for walking away.
ReplyDeleteAmanda Peet was just on a sitcom, has one movie coming out soon and is filming one now.
ReplyDeleteHollywood (as in the entertainment industry) is not inherently more evil than any other powerful, money-drenched circle of influence. Politics ... Wall Street ... Madison Avenue ... hell, Shattuck Ave. Where there is money and power, there will be psychopaths.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's Bridget Fonda. The blind says the actress was only around for a short time... Bridget Fonda worked from the 80's until early 2000's according to IMDB.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's Bridget Fonda. It says the actress in question first got noticed in her late teens. That doesn't jibe with BF, she first came to attention with Scandal in 87. By then she was in her mid-20s.
ReplyDeleteIt also says that the actress was in her late teens when she started getting noticed. Bridget Fonda's career didn't really start until her early 20s.
ReplyDeleteAlicia silverstone fits the bill. She was hot a few years ago and she did a movie with Benicia del toro who also won an Oscar
ReplyDeleteGonna be in a vampire movie with Sigourney weaver
DeleteMelody Clark...so true Fashion is another one...
ReplyDeleteI don't think Bridget Fonda was all that shy in films.
ReplyDeleteFor some reason I can't get Mickey Rourke out of my head for the actor. I'm not that familiar with most of his films, so I don't know if he ever played a drug addict. I think he'd be excellent as one, however.

ReplyDeleteMira Sorvino?
ReplyDeleteJennifer Tilley is Bonnie on Family Guy.
ReplyDeleteI think Alison Lohman may be it. With Nic Cage being the method actor. They did Matchstick Men together. Mira Sorvino works steadily, albeit it in lesser known projects.
ReplyDeleteno clue who, but re: Evangeline Lilly.
ReplyDeleteShe's very happy living with husband ( great guy ) and baby in hawai'i. She's been mixing work - Hurt locker, Real Steel and the big Hobbit flicks in New Zealand with family and generally would prefer to write children's books.
she has a wonderful life
Of all the guesses so far, Bridget Fonda is the only one who has not acted in years. She was definitely the "it" girl for a while, when she was in Singles and Point of No Return and Single White Female. She also fits because of her name recognition, and the blind says we'd still recognize her because of her name.
ReplyDeleteSean Penn was all kinds of crazy in Carlito's Way. Cannot recall the name of the blonde who was Pacino's girlfriend in it, but she was also in Kindergarten Cop.
ReplyDeleteNot Bridget Fonda. She didn't need to anything for anybody, with a family history like hers. She glided into show biz.
ReplyDeletePretty sure Meg Tilly does a lot of voice work, including Family Guy.
ReplyDeleteBridget Fonda gave an interview where she talked about getting nude in Single White Female, saying that it was perfectly natural for a woman to get up from bed and walk to her own bathroom naked and she had no problem doing the scene that way, didn't need a body double.
Alicia Silverstone lives in LA, and just did a story arc on Suburgatory with one of her Clueless co-stars.
Liv Tyler is married and has children, she still pops up from time to time, but I think her children are more important to her.
Ally Sheedy still pops up from time to time. I don't think this is her.
I think this is someone that we haven't seen at all in a while. Like someone who lives in the suburbs of Milwaukee now or something.
I thought of Lori Petty and Bridget Fonda too.
ReplyDeleteI don't know. Heath Ledger was a method actor.
ReplyDeleteNo way this is Fonda. Way too much Hollywood cred to get treatment like this. And who's Allison Lohman? If she was such a rising star, how come I've never heard of her?
ReplyDeleteWouldn't call that B name recognition either.
Silverstone sure was a comer for awhile. At least I know who she is.
Hmmm, true, scratch Fonda off my list for now.
ReplyDeleteI think the problem with most of these guesses, though, is that most of them are not that well known and unlikely to come back as immediate B list.
Dammit, I get the Tilley sisters mixed up too! Jennifer does Family Guy, Meg is in Bomb Girls. D'oh!
ReplyDeleteooooo, Lori Petty. Wonder if she was nominated for anything.
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteFrom IMDB:
ReplyDeleteIn 2003, Fonda suffered head and neck injuries when she drove her Jaguar over an embankment and off the Pacific Coast Highway. Later that year, she married Oingo Boingo frontman Danny Elfman and has since retired from show business.
(Danny E is one of the hottest composers in Hollywood... so they still socialize in the inner sets. Didn't know she had a car accident... hmmm.)
CDAN community... you are the best, a constant source of good and laughs. Wish I could join more!
Liv Tyler is divorced and has a son....she did that awful Russian film with Ralph Fiennes.....
ReplyDelete@It's Just You, that blonde is Penelope Ann Miller, and she's still working. She was just in "The Artist."
ReplyDeleteI'm liking the Fonda guess, or someone who left so successfully we can't even recall them.
Cheers PamMo. That was wrecking my head. I didn't think it was her but more a train of thought I was following of A list method actors who might be jerks. Sean Penn doing drugs popped into my head.
DeleteNot Bridget Fonda. She didn't need to anything for anybody, with a family history like hers. She glided into show biz. Father Peter Fonda, Grandfather Henry and aunt Jane. She also was in a movie when she was 5 yrs old (Easy Rider) and wasn't in another movie until she was 22yrs old. The BV says late teens.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteBF was 33 when she did Jackie Brown and the last of her projects were mostly tv. Looks more like she was trying to hang on if anything.
ReplyDeleteFonda wouldn't be the first person from a well connected Hollywood family to be treated like that. Not sure it's her, but also not convinced that poor treatment is impossible because of her family name.
ReplyDeleteLori Petty is an interesting guess too.
It's funny, though, if I hadn't looked at her IMDB page, I would never have known Bridget was around for so long. Seems like she came, was everywhere, and then vanished. But I agree the more I think about it, the less it sounds like her.
ReplyDeleteDon't know if it fits, but was thinking just a few days ago, what ever happened to Debra Winger? She just vanished.
ReplyDeleteAlison Lohman - never near B+ status, I had to look her up to see who she was, and I'm pretty sure most people would do the same.
ReplyDeleteMeg Tilly - did mostly bit parts until bitting the big time with Agnes Of God in 1985, when she was 25. Our actress has to have started hitting it big in her late teens.
Bridget Fonda - same problem as Meg. She was 24 when she did her first big role in Scandal. Besides, she's Hollywood royalty, grand-daughter of Henry Fonda and daughter of Peter Fonda. Considering Peter F has a massive gun collection and is a generally scary person all-round, you would need suicidal tendencies to mess with his daughter.
All the other candidates have been working steadily lately, unless I missed one, so we're back to square one.
A "just to be different" choice:
ReplyDeleteLORI SINGER
She has to be best known for her role as the rebellious preacher's daughter "Ariel Moore" in Footloose (1984) when she was actually already 27 years old playing a high school student. She had first broke through in the TV series Fame from 1982-83 where she portrayed cello player "Julie Miller." Singer came from a musical family and is a Julliard-trained cellist who made her debut as soloist at age thirteen with the Oregon Symphony. She was once voted one of the "Most Beautiful People" by People Magazine. After Footloose, she starred in a number of other movies, including The Falcon and the Snowman (1985), The Man with One Red Shoe (1985 with Tom Hanks) and the Robert Altman film Short Cuts (1993). In 1995, she was involved in the creative conception of and played the lead character in the science fiction TV series VR.5. Married to New York civil liberties attorney Richard Emery way back in 1980, the couple had a son before divorcing in 1996. Her cousin is film director Bryan Singer (X-men). Singer is now 51 years old.
won one Golden Globe and was nominated for more and other awards
@crila16, agree, and Bridget's film career spanned 33 years.
ReplyDeleteHere's a list of rising female movie stars from a few years ago that have seemed to have stopped making movies. However most of them are still working in the industry somehow (TV, music, voice artist, producing, etc.)
ReplyDeleteGaby Hoffman
Heather Matarazzo
Thora Birch
Schuyler Fisk
Larisa Oleynik
Lori Petty is still working, she wasn't discovered as a teen, and she wasn't nominated for anything. Crud.
ReplyDeleteLori Singer was never really an 'it' girl and she didn't seem to be in every movie either.
Let me check on Quinn Cummings. I don't think she'll fit for this, but I'll check.
Lori Singer was well into her twenties when she started, were looking for someone who was in their late teens
ReplyDeleteHow about Johnny Depp for the method actor?
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteHeather Matarazzo?
ReplyDeleteLol @Sparkwee...great minds...
ReplyDeleteBased on this line:
ReplyDelete"She was in her late teens when she really got noticed and that is when it became hard."
I think that this is a child/tween actress who started getting bigger roles in her late teens and not necessarily someone who wasn't discovered until then.
What about Phoebe Cates? She seems to have quit completely.
ReplyDeleteSean Penn and Nicolas Cage were in Fast Times at Ridgemont High with Phoebe Cates. Hmmm... Could we have a winner?
ReplyDeleteBah! Never mind. She hasn't been nominated for anything... Can't be Phoebe.
ReplyDeleteOh...and I had liked the Phoebe Cates guess too...but no nominations.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking Phoebe Cates also. She just dropped off the movie scene. Maybe not mentioning Kevin Kline as that would give it away. Fast Times At Ridgemont High with Sean Penn for the Drugs. Private School the movie with the sex scene. She seems smart enough to say f* this and break away from the hollywood scene
ReplyDeleteIt'd be easier if we focused on the "A-List all the way" nominated, etc guy. There are only a handful of true A-list, Oscar nominated actors.
ReplyDeletePhoebe Cates is certainly the best guess so far - Bright Lights, Big City could have had a sex scene or several, and she has been retired from Hollywood (though not from acting) for a long time.
ReplyDeleteAlso, the item says that the actor decided to do 'drugs', which could mean anything from weed upwards. If only there was an A-ilst scumbag in Fast Times At Ridgemont High who was playing a massive stoner in that movie.
It may not be an oscar nomination though. It just says "bigger" awards. I think it's more likely a golden globe.
ReplyDeletematt, it says she was standing int he alley smoking crack with him. Not weed.
ReplyDeleteCates is a possibility, but who on Fast Times at Ridgemont high had the power to threaten her with getting fired? She was the star of the movie.
@Trey Phoebe wasn't the star. Jennifer Jason Leigh was. Phoebe played her friend.
ReplyDeletePhoebe Cates has no nominations for anything. Whatever you may think of Sean Penn, he's not just a nominee, he's won 2 Oscars. Think we gotta find someone else.
ReplyDeleteCommandeered, thou shalt not take RDJ's name in vain. It's been a while since he cleaned up. No clue who this could be, but throwing out Alicia Silverstone for the maybe?
ReplyDeleteSparkee, I'd say they were both stars. It was an ensemble cast, and I'm just wondering how Sean Penn (assuming it was him) would have had the power to threaten her with being fired. But maybe that's not the film in question.
ReplyDeleteI always heard that Debra Winger got a troublesome diva reputation and nobody wanted to work with her anymore.
ReplyDeleteI think it's Amy Adams. She was in everything and played in The Fighter with Christian Bale who was a crackhead. She wAs in everything for awhile and has suddenly disappeared.
ReplyDeleteAmy Adams has mad projects in production, not her.
ReplyDeleteWhat about Emily Lloyd? She was in her teens and brilliant in Wish You Were Here and was in several other pretty big movies back in the '80s. She has admitted to struggling with mental illness, but she did pretty much just leave the movie biz. Her story is pretty tragic. She is so talented.
ReplyDeleteAmy Adams was in The Fighter (AA Nominated for best actress), just in The Muppet's and is filming Man of Steel. It is defiantly not her.
ReplyDeleteThis isnt Evangelline Lilly, she did that movie with Hugh Jackman after Lost.
ReplyDeleteI'm on board with the Bridget Fonda guess. This seems like a blind from a while ago. Not recent
Amy Adams was lately in The Muppets. Unless Jason Segel went method on this one and had a backstory as a crack addict, or director Nicholas Stoller shot a sex scene with 20 puppeteers on set, it isn't her.
ReplyDelete@ Angela, funny!
ReplyDeleteRE: Bridget Fonda, yes the B+ list and sudden absence works, but nothing else does. She didn't really have any credits before her early 20s, she had a long career so I doubt she'd suddenly tire of coke and gropings at almost 40 years old, and seriously, who'd have messed with an actress of her lineage? Can't be her.
"amanda peet for the actress, john cusack for the crack smoking actor"
ReplyDeleteWas that a reference to "Identity," one of the greatest movies of all time?
What about Amanda Bynes?????
ReplyDeleteMost of the guesses don't fit. They didn't stop working. Except Cates and Fonda. And they both married rich famous people. So they didn't exactly need to work. The rest work when they can. They just hit the 35 yr old mark where Hollywood ignores them.
ReplyDeleteI like that Emily Lloyd guess, Eve. Or maybe it's just that I like Emily Lloyd!
ReplyDeleteA quote from her IMDb page:
"I see the horrible way some stars deal with other people, and I don't know how they get away with it. Maybe it comes back to them in a different karma."
I agree with Sean.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking of Jennifer Jason Leigh for the actress
ReplyDeleteMethod actor - Christian Bale for The Machinist.
Amy Adams is still working but Alison Folland hasn't done anything since The Fighter. There was a lot of buzz around her in the late nineties after To Die For and All Over Me. Joaquin Phoenix as the method A-lister? Or was Christian Bale really on crack for The Fighter? Interesting... Also, "one second she was there and the next she was not" could be a reference to I'm Not There, which she was in. Not sure why she'd be known for her name, but everything else fits.
ReplyDeleteWhat about Geena Davis? Just checked her IMDB and she hasn't worked since 2009.
ReplyDeleteNot Debra Winger - she was on In Treatment last season.
ReplyDeleteWhat about Amanda Byrnes? She said she 'retired', was discovered young, and because of all of her recent drama everyone knows her name. She also is clearly messed up.
It totally is Bridget Fonda, based on my recent Google research :)
ReplyDeleteI think the method actor was John Hurt and the director was Q Tarentino and with Deniro as the sex scene partner.
That actually explains alot, bc it did seem weird how she just disappeared!
I vote for Emily Lloyd.
ReplyDeleteAlison Folland was never B+ and Geena Davis was working on a TV series (Coma), might not have been picked up though.
ReplyDeleteAmanda Bynes doesn't really fit either.
Ooh - an Alison Folland guess! I love somewhat obscure actresses!
ReplyDeleteHere's my $.02, for what it's worth.
ReplyDeleteI think this is one of two scenarios:
1. Someone from quite a while ago with big enough name recognition that many years later she could still be a relatively big draw. There aren't many previously B list actresses from 20-30 years ago that quit working that would make people today go, "wow...she's back." Even Bridget Fonda...she has the name but really, in today's world would she create "B" buzz based on her name? Even RDJ, when he made his comeback didn't really have people going, "WOW...he's back"; not immediately at least. Honestly, imo, if you have to look them up (whether for who they are or what they did), they couldn't come back as B based on their name-- and how many B listers from 20-30 years ago who haven't worked in a long time have big enough name recognition for that?
2. Someone from the last 10 years who is still in the public consciousness. People would still go, "oh yeah...I loved her in that. She hasn't been in anything in a while." But maybe aren't really thinking, "what the hell happened to her." For instance, Megan Fox popped into my mind. I don't think she's the one, since she has still been doing small things but, if you said, "Megan Fox" to most people, they'd know who she was and maybe wonder why they haven't seen her in any movies in a long while when she was EVERYWHERE a few years ago.
Did that make sense?
I remember reading about a director who would film his stars having sex but not use the footage in the movie, but keep it for himself for future viewing.
ReplyDeleteBut I can't remember who.
Does that ring a bell with anyone?
Doesn't B+ mean that most people would know who someone was based on name? Does Allison Folland qualify under that?
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I don't remember B+ criteria but I think it's pretty instant name recognition during their heyday.
Maybe it was Stanley Kubrick? hmmmm.
ReplyDeleteRenee Zellweger? IMDB says she hasn't done a movie since 2010.
ReplyDeleteIn movie land, 2 years doesn't qualify as completely disappearing.
ReplyDeleteHilary Swank? Winona Ryder? Naomi Watts? Maggie Gyllenhaal?
ReplyDeleteI still do't think it is Fonda but John Hurt does have a nasty reputation. Which reminds me of Bill Hurt, I could see him doing something like this.
ReplyDeleteWhat happened to Meg Ryan? Or is she too A list to fit?
ReplyDeleteConnie Nielsen? She had a good run of high-profile film roles for several years. Gladiator's one of the few movies I can think of that could plausibly had an orgy scene. Joaquin Phoenix for the crack addict?
ReplyDeleteJulia Ormond?
ReplyDeleteWhat about Ione Skye? She was in Say Anything with John Cusack. Looks like she's been working here and there, but for a while in the late 80s she was everywhere...Plus her name IS hard to forget
ReplyDeleteIone Skye is a good guess!
ReplyDeleteIone Skye is a good guess, but she made a movie in 2012.
ReplyDeletedominique swain or gleanne headly?
ReplyDeleteWhat about Jamie Gertz or Molly Ringwald?
ReplyDeleteJulia Ormond is on MAD MEN...
ReplyDelete@Misch Haha! Ok. Nevermind then.
ReplyDeleteJulie Ormond just had a featured guest spot in Mad Men. She was simply awesome as Megan's bitchy French mother, and I hope we see more of her next season.
ReplyDeleteOk I'll admit I'm terrible at these things, I rely on you guys' genius to get my ideas flowing. But, just needed to rant that I get SO irritated w/the ridiculously thoughtless guesses. Stop naming actresses who've only been "quiet" for a few years and have just gotten married or are/were pregnant! Let's really think if someone who is truly gone from the scene!
ReplyDeleteWhat about Fairuza Balk? Method actor being Nicolas Cage in Bad Lieutenant, after that we never saw Fairuza again. And she has an odd name people would remember.SHe has won an award for an 1992 movie, she was 18 (late teen) at the time. After that she did the Craft, American History X, Almost Famous.
ReplyDeleteBtw, checked out all the Vanity Fair Hollywood covers, thats how I came to Fairuza. No other actress on there qualifies for the 'missing' actress (all still work steadily), besides Alison Lohman. She was in Drag me to Hell, but no huge actors were in there.
Oh forgot to say; last movie Fairuza did was in 2009 (the Bad Lieutenant one)
ReplyDeleteJuliette Lewis
ReplyDeleteWoody Harrelson/Robert Downey, Jr.
Oliver Stone
'Natural Born Killers'
Just a guess... She dropped out of the acting scene for the most part, and I think I remember her blaming her drug problems on the things that happened with the actors, crew and Stone on that set.
Fairuza has credits listed on IMDB
ReplyDeleteI don't know if Alison Folland is B+, but it seems like Enty's criteria are pretty subjective. I'd consider her B+ in terms of talent and body of work, but yeah, probably C or below in terms of name recognition. It's the connections to Bale and Phoenix that made me think of her. And it really does seem like she dropped off the radar after a string of good movies.
ReplyDeleteJuliette Lewis is on The Firm
ReplyDelete@Lauren Honig: Ah stupid, only looked at Wikipedia and her website.. but they are not up to date I guess, hahaha! Thanks for clearing that up xD
ReplyDeleteI like the Juliette Lewis-guess, but she has been doing tv and has some movies coming up..
Thought of Maggie Gyllenhaal (because of her brother's name she won't have trouble being a B-lister again and she has talent) but she is also steadily working. OH BEHHH i give up
I was thinking Juliette Lewis. She became a big star after CAPE FEAR and was in NATURAL BORN KILLERS. She has pretty much just been performing with her band in the last few years.
ReplyDeleteBack to the Alison Lohman guess, didn't she play a heroin addict in Things We Lost In A Fire with Benicio Del Toro?
ReplyDeleteMary-Kate Olsen!
ReplyDeleteSorry I just watched Winning London and my Olsen twin obsession is beginning to rear its ugly head again.
While reading I immediately thought Fairuza Balk. So I'm with you @ Shit You Can't Buy...

ReplyDeleteOne thing I've noticed about these juicy types of BV's. If after 187 comments, no one has figured it out and a bunch of people are not 100% firm with the decision...it's because there's something in there to throw us off (Like how many years ago or B+ List status) so it's virtually impossible to figure out who it is.
ReplyDeleteFairuza Balk was a child actress, so not in her late teens when first noticed.
ReplyDeleteAlicia Silverstone fits the bill in a bunch of ways but she HAS worked, and has a couple of movies she's working on now.
I'm liking the Bridget Fonda guess. She's been nominated for Golden Globes, and she still has B list name recognition despite not working for the last ten years.
What is confusing me the most is this: 'a few years ago it seemed like you could not watch any movie without seeing this actress. She was everywhere. She was the it girl. She was the next big thing. She was in big movies and blockbusters and even got nominated for some of the bigger awards'
ReplyDeleteShe has to be pretty famous, or has a very easy to recognize face. I looked at my dvd-shelves, that has a lot of mainstream/blockbustersmovies from the last decade (and before:P) and NO ONE comes to mind/fits. This has to be someone who was in movies all the time, like a Megan Fox/Keira Knightley/Scarjo.. But I seriously can't think of anyone (except Fairuza Balk/Juliette Lewis, but as others have pointed out; they don't fit the clues).
Btw, I think 'she was in her late teens when she really got noticed' doesn't mean she necesarily started working in her late-teens. I think it more implies she got credit for something she did around that time, not that then was her first job.
ReplyDeleteHow about Kristy Mcnicoll?
ReplyDeleteI think it could be Fairuza Balk. Yes she started as a child but she (and Robin Tunney) gained a lot of attention from The Craft when they were teens
ReplyDeleteQuinn Cummings stopped acting in her early teens, so I don't think it was her
Silverstone's career fizzled because, after Clueless, she was given a huge contract that she couldn't live up to and the movies failed. Her most successful work was pretty much Clueless & Aerosmith videos
I like Jennifer Jason Leigh or Bridget Fonda for this guess. They both come from Hollywood acting and both disappeared.
ReplyDeleteGuys---A CLUE! I think the director jackass is DEAD, because he "lovED the power". He is never referred to in the present tense, either, and no mention that he's still doing it now.
ReplyDeleteEnty may not have meant that as a clue, but people will just subconsciously use language without realizing they're leaking.
I think we should focus on a DEAD director
who was a tyrant on-set, a control freak.
Unfortunately Kubrick, one of my very favorites, fits this well I think.
Maybe if we concentrate on the director we can start linking? We're all over the map here!
Unfortunately, Kubrick had relatively few films. So could this be Leelee Sobieski (sp)? Wasn't she in "Eyes Wide Shut"? that film was notoriously cut for its graphic sex.
So did Leelee ever work with a 'method actor' (Cage, Deniro, Maybe Phoenix, maybe Ledger)? God knows that besides being gay, Tom Cruise has only one acting setting, so he's not 'method', unless that method is 'nutcase'.
In other news, hello, Steppy!
@ Ol Cranky; Fairuza is my topguess too, but since she has movies coming up on IMDB i doubt its her:(
ReplyDeleteRead the blind again, and it also indicates she had a short career, so i guess people saying she was a child actor and therefore doesn't qualify is true..
Just as an added thought; "crack" didn't appear on the streets until the mid 1980s; initially in the inner cities. I wouldn't think it would be found on movie sets with A list actors smoking it until at least a few years after that (although it is rumored that Tupac hung with one of the guys credited with "inventing" crack...but I think they both were more into the ganga if memory serves).
ReplyDeleteTaking that into consideration, I think we're looking at 1990-91 at the very earliest for when this actress was in her teens and got noticed. Any earlier and it would have been snorting coke ala RDJ not smoking crack.
With that, I think we are looking for someone who is 39 or younger (using 17 yo and 1990 as a starting point).
Yes. I am putting way too much thought into this.
ReplyDeleteMe too, Lola. Thank you referencing the crack timeline. I noticed that some guesses were too early and wanted to mention it, too.
ReplyDeleteSamantha Mathis?? She was in American Psycho.
