Ronan Farrow Takes A Father's Day Jab At Woody Allen

Last night I retweeted a Ronan Farrow Tweet that was the biggest dig I have ever seen a family member take at Woody Allen. Ronan Tweeted, "Happy father's day - or as they call it in my family, happy brother-in-law's day." Wow. Yep, he really went there and I'm glad he did. Maybe it will bring some attention to the whole Woody Allen thing. People forget and there are people young enough who don't even know that he got kicked out of Mia Farrow's house when she found naked pictures of her daughter that were taken by Woody. Woody did no adopt Soon-Yi but he was acting as a father figure while he was living with Mia who had adopted him. As Ronan has said before he is my father and my brother-in-law and that is just wrong.

  2. Yeah really! Bravo Ronan!! You just became my favorite celebrity child!

  3. It really is so creepy. I have a friend who married her dad's best friend. He'd known her since she was 11. How does he not look at her and only be able to see that little girl??? Ugh.

  5. Does he have a father-son relationship with Woody or do they not speak?

    ReplyDelete
  6. I agree, there are NO circumstances or excuses that make this acceptable. I'm guessing Ronan doesn't have a great (or any) relationship with his dad/brother-in-law? I wonder how he is with Soon-yi?

  7. Excuse me, I meant uncle's best friend.

  8. Love this guy, and the indirect supportive nod to Mia and his siblings on a day when they should be celebrating Woody's role in the family.

  9. Holy crap - this guy is more accomplished than anyone else his age! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronan_Farrow

  10. @Cathy, Woody's raw intelligence and Mia's humanitarian nature.. the best of both worlds.

  11. Holy shit, Cathy. He's not even 30!

  12. I do like how he uses Ronan rather than his given first name of Satchel. Giving Mia credit, he has turned out very well.

  13. Good on him! Mia taught him well. He will be a fine husband, father and human.

  14. Wow I had no idea re Ronan farrows accomplishments, what an impressive young man. Also didn't realize he is the only biological child of woody and Mia so that whole sitch must have been partic difficult for him, to learn his actual father had been sexually involved with his adopted sister and then left his mother for her! I don't think I could ever forgive my father for that, I'd be surprised if they had any sort of reln at all.

  15. one of my colleagues has a sister who lives with her mum's ex-boyfriend and they have 2 kids together and his mum had a kid with this ex-boyfriend so it's complicated during the family meeting

and one of my neighbour has the same complicated family life

  16. Holy smokes! This kid is far more accomplished than most people three times his age! Wow!

Makes me feel like a real schlub - did I mention my flowers are doing nicely this year :-)?

  17. Wow after reading his bio I officially feel like an idiot. This guy is beyond genius...and obviously funny too...how you doing?

  19. Ok let's see if I can explain this right, my sister in laws dad(who was my husbands stepdad) had an odd relationship with her best friend. Now they were very young like 8-9 and once her bestie turned 16 her dad divorced my mother inlaw and began dating the 16 year old. Once she turned 18 they got married. We all knew there was something hinky going on but never had proof. And let me clarify that he was no looker whatsoever. He looks like a capybara.

  20. Yale Law School at 15!?

In olden times, men used to marry their "wards" and at least Woody is still with Soon. But the whole is a bit skeevy.

  22. ♥ and Mia RETWEETED it! :D

Mia should make a movie about the whole nasty mess: "Daddy's Sick Ass Love"

Woody Allen, making Humbert Humbert look good.

  23. Farrow did the commencement address up here at Dominican University last month. It was pretty amazing. I'm shocked he is not even 25 yet.

    ReplyDelete
  24. It's amazing what fame and money will let you be forgiven for. See Woody and Roman Polanski.
It was sickening to see so many women and mothers stick up for him, I lost a lot of respect for Kate Winslet.

  25. Holy crap - that kid has an impressive bio!! Too bad his dad sucks. Good job raising him, Mia...

    ReplyDelete
  26. It's Woody's loss, he got a wife I don't even think he likes. And lost a fantastic son.

    ReplyDelete
  27. The kid is a genius, and the post is on target.

However, Woody Allen and Mia Farrow never lived together, and he was not raising any of the Previn children as his own or as a stepfather.

What he did was simply despicable -- but it wasn't incest and there wasn't any father-daughter type relationship.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Btw, for those of you asking about Soon Yi's relationship with the Farrows, I believe Mia cut her out. She still is in contact with her father, Andre Previn.

  29. ^^ what Beth said, verbatim on all points.

  30. I hope Morgan Freeman is paying attention.

  31. it does make me sick when actors fawn over working with Woody Allen. All they want is a shot at an Oscar. They oh so conviently turn their heads when it can help their careers.

Ronan is amazing and a Rhodes Scholar. He cut his dad out in 1992 Ronan is also Woody's only biological child. Oh the irony.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I have not forgotten this bit of Woody Allen history, the reason why all his accolades make me sick to my stomach. She was still underage when he started that crap with her, no matter what the "official" relationship was. The fact that he always works with very young actresses doesn't seem to bother anyone either. This aside, I've never found what movies I've seen of his, profound or good. I never got the whole Annie Hall thing, but I guess I'm just no "hip" enough.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I thought it was hilarious. Nice going, Ronan.

    ReplyDelete
  34. No matter what your relationship was in raising them, it's a good rule of thumb to never date your children's siblings. It's always going to be icky.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Imagine if they'd had more children. Wonder if they would have all been so amazing?

    @Frufra, you're fine by me :)

  36. Ronan has been mentioned in the comments section here several times.

  37. I have to admit that I truly love several Woody Allen movies. He's brilliant, there's no denying it. Still, his actions were undeniably creepy and it's tragic that he lost his relationship with his son. It's just a sad situation all the way around.

  38. Anonymous10:11 AM

Not into him as a writer director or person. Am I the only person in Hollywood who sees a rehash of the same character and theme? Is that really award worthy or is it that the same old fucks who vote only know a handful of names? I'd be over woody allen except I was never under him. Not my cup of tea and I'm very happy working with the directos I do who are respected in their own right as both artists and people.

  39. Ronan has been certified a genius - I think since he was practically a toddler, and this just underlines that fact, LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  40. @Em - thanks! Right back at ya, lady!

And really, truly, for the record, I'm super-OK with being of above-average intelligence but not at genius level. This kid appears to be pulling it off with a lot of grace, but many very intelligent people have a difficult life.

My oldest son is right on the borderline between really smart and genius, and he has been a handful to raise. We call it the "human being training program", because he had almost no intuitive social skills as a small child.

I'm happy (and relieved) to report that, as a teenager, he has friends and a social life - the training is working!!

Mia Farrow is to be greatly commended for this guy's great success. Yay Mom!

  41. bobbi_1025, you don't see people being compared to capybara's too much these days, bravo!

    ReplyDelete
  42. At least Woody and Soon-Yi's relation is consensual.

I save my ire for Roman Polanski.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Not only is this guy a genius, he's hot too.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Soon-Yi made sure her mother 'found' the Polaroids.

Does Ronan even remember Soon-Yi? She's so much older, and Mia adopted like 16 kids or something. Ronan couldn't have been very old when Soon-Yi emancipated herself with mom's BF.

ITA with Beth, though. Woody was never her father figure, just mom's BF. Woody was famously non-paternal, and never wanted kids until Mia talked him into it (she knew the gene combo would be great, and it is).

    ReplyDelete
  45. Ronan cut his father out if his life after the whole Soon yi thing. Soon Yi cut her mother out of her life, nit ither way around. And Woody did indeed avt as father figure for 4 of the children- Moses, Ronan, liza and another. All disgusted by their father and want zero to do with him. I remember reading an article by Allen, whining about how he had presents for them and cldnt get them to kids because THEY DIDNT WANT TO SEE HIM!! They told judge that, and that was that for visitation. Supposedly Soon Yi was a real piece of work and always made sure she got what she wanted. She always wanted to live in Paris, and where dies allen pretty much live now? Paris!!! The die hard new yorker who swore he wld NEVER leave NY. Coincudentally, there are pictures in paper and online im sure, of woody hugging his preteen daughters. Please google it- the look miserable, angry, and like they cant wait to get away from him!! Speaks VOLUMES!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I've never liked Woody A., always thought of him as a pervert. His movies never liked them before the Farrow incident with her adopted daughter. Just like Polanski I do not watch any of their movies at all.

Hollywood should give their backs to people like them instead they still praise them which to me gives a bad impression of some of the celebrities.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I have a hard time hating Woody because I love his movies and his writing so much. No question he is a self-involved, neurotic mess who really screwed up royally in this relationship with Mia, Soon-Yi and his children...but I think he is/was an incredibly talented person and I still like most of his films and writing.

Sad that he had such acclaim and blew his reputation in such a huge way so that his name is kind of mud no matter what he does now.

I did not know much about this young man--I followed the link to his bio--what an amazing life he's had!

  48. I work for a company that provides a service to a customer in NYC named Woody Allen. When this person was called, A woman who said her name was Soon Yi answered, said her husband wasn't there and gave an alternate number.
I can surmise a couple of things. Nearly all celebrities have everything in their assistants or some other employees names. The vast majority of those use a business phone number and you reach a secretary or an assistant. I can count on one hand the number of celebrities that actually speak to us themselves. I have a lot of respect for the ones that do. There is really no need to speak to us personally, a secretary or assistant is fine. The ones that do speak to us themselves tend to be much more down to earth.
The second thing to get from this is that they were in NY, at least on this day.
Another thing to consider, they're still together unheard of even for half of us regular folks.

  49. It's well known that Mia was unbelievably insane with bitterness, anger, resentment, shock, disgust (and probably a little jealous) when her boyfriend chose the young Soon-Yi over her and totally and complety brain washed Ronan into cutting his father off soon after this happened. Mia RAISED their son to hate his father- and I actually dislike HER for her completely biased parenting and turning Ronan against Woody. Choosing Soon-Yi had nothing to do with him, but Mia and her bitterness leached into most of the other kids too, and Woody doesnt talk to most of them. I think Ronan has zero perspective on this.

Like many said, this was a weird occurance and definitely boundary-stretching BUT BUT BUT NOT an incestual type of daddy raising daughter then marrying her thing!!!

Like someone above said, I'll continue to reserve my disdain for the Roman Polanski's of the world. I simply do not associate Woody Allen in the same category.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Bravo, Ronan! I don't care if Woody and Soon-Yi are still together--that is a pathetic argument to rationalize his deviant behavior. A pedophile is always a pedophile, and Soon-Yi is either clueless or chooses to ignore what her husband is. I'm sure he has a good sized stash of kiddie porn and/or makes frequent sex tourism trips where he can have access to all the underage girls he wants.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Although I will admit, it is definitely in poor taste that the whole thing happened.

But I defy anyone to watch Sleepers, Annie Hall, Midnight in Paris, etc. and not fall a little bit in love with the brain of Woody Allen. Truly one of the best directors/writers of our time.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Poor taste?! Not incestuous?! People who say things like that obviously do not have children. Soon-Yi was a ten year old little girl when her mother, Mia Farrow, began dating Woody Allen!! Farrow and Allen were together for over ten years UNTIL she found the pictures of her nude daughter! Woody had no choice but to marry Soon-Yi when she was 21 years old in order to save his career. Brilliant writer and director? Absolutely. Pedophile? Absolutely, positively.

  53. This reminded me of an article I read in Vanity Fair years and years ago. It's long, but goes into detail about the Soon Yi relationship.....as well as abusive behavior towards the other children. It was not just Soon Yi.

  54. Yes, Sarah. The District Attorney didn't charge him for molesting his other little girl because they didn't want to put her through the trauma of testifying. Not surprisingly, Allen and Soon-Yi have two adopted daughters.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I assisted Ronan twice (over the phone). He legally changed his name and dropped Satchel as his first name (Woody had named him after Satchel Paige) and had ID problems as a result. He was very, very pleasant and when I put him through the "ID process" I said "holy crap" out loud when I realized who he was (this was when he was at Yale). His response was "holy hell would be a better description". I have had an old lady crush on him since that day.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Jasmine, I doubt don't Mia felt any of those things. Who wouldn't? For Ronan though, it's not about whether Woody lived with Mia, boyfriend/girlfriend, who raised Soon-Yi.

His father married his sister. How much more perspective do you need? Even if you take Mia out of the equation, that is fucked up. You don't need your mom to tell you that. He lived with his sister, he had his Dad in his life, his Dad was with his Mom. Incestuous or not to some, if you cross that line, you don't get to take your other kids with you. Ask a mom or sibling who adopts, it's still just as much their child whether they get them at 10 weeks or 10 years old.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Agent, you have the coolest stories. Wow!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Here are my thoughts.....Soon-Yi must've really, really hated Mia to start the affair with Woody. Soon-Yi doesn't come off as the warmest person around (living on streets of Korea b4 being adopted didn't help) but I'd love to read her version of what kind of living Hell the Previn/Farrow household was.

Considering Mia stole Andre Previn away from Dory Previn i think it was karma when Soon-Yi 'stole' Woody away from Mia. We all know Mia has a screw loose....helloooo....she chopped off ALL her hair when she was pissed at Frank.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Ugh, Brandi. REAL classy.

    ReplyDelete
  60. It's funny but sad. Soon Yi and Woody have children of their own, who are now teenagers. I wonder how a snappish comment like this affects them? They have no part in this drama. Ronan has no relationship w/Allen so I wonder why he felt the need to slap after all these years. As an FYI - Mia Farrow got pregnant w/twins by Andre Previn, when he was still very much married to Dory Previn. He had planned to go back to Dory when Mia publicly announced her pregnancy. Dory tried to kill herself. This family brings the drama.

    ReplyDelete
  61. @Sarah - thanks for the link. Very interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  62. @Elisabeth , watch for him to start developing himself politically. Someday soon I think he will step into that arena. He won't likely devote any time to chatting about "family".This may be his way of acknowledging publicly the rather odd.. situation.

  63. One more thought...although ANNIE HALL is one of my favorite movies ever and I think WA is truly a genius with film and music, I suspect there's NPD there at the very least. Narcissists actually LOVE knowing that they're under their victims'/survivors' skins, even years later. I know a lot of people are cheering for Ronan here, but I actually think that living well is the best revenge and giving a shout-out to a narcissist like that is counterproductive.

But that's just me. He's not my father. *shrug*
