Principal's Wife And Teacher Admits To Sex With Student
There are plenty of teachers having sex with students. It seems to me from purely an anectodal feel that most of the teachers having sex with their students are women. I would say it is about 70/30. I don't know if that is because the male teachers cover it up better or just are not having sex with their students as frequently or news stories just like to focus on female teachers. Anyway, this is the first time I have heard of a woman who was a teacher and is married to the principal having had sex with a student. Andrea Conners of Kentucky pleaded guilty to first degree sexual abuse. She is 34 and her victim was 17. The interesting thing is if he was 18 it would have been fine, but instead with that one year gap it is a felony. Conners is married and has two kids. She faces up to five years in jail and has to register as a sex offender forever. Oh, she this was not a plea deal. She just changed her plea to guilty. If you are going to do that, you might as well battle it out in court and see what happens.
My HS chem teacher dated a classmate during our senior year secretly, and then the minute we graduated they were all over eachother. I won't lie tho, there was one teacher I had that I hit on constantly. We had inappropiate conversations but nothing else.
ReplyDeleteIt's because it's more socially acceptable for a young man to experiment sexually with an older woman than vice versa. Which is funny, since once you're an adult, it reverses.
ReplyDeleteI wish I had teachers like this back when I was in school. I can't recall one under the age of 50.
ReplyDeleteIf she switched her plea to guilty, my guess is there is other stuff she didn't want coming out.
ReplyDeleteI say that with absolutely no further knowledge or interest in this story.
But do you see HS kids? They look like such babies!!! I'm 30, and my brother is 25. He and his friends look SO young. I don't understand being attracted to a teenager at all.
ReplyDeleteI agree completely, Amber! And if you are attracted to these kids, get some help! It boils down to the difference between right and wrong. I may want that new lipstick, but I'm not going to pick it up and walk out of the store without paying for it. It's very basic, really.

ReplyDeleteI found out my ex gf, who is 38, is into younger guys...like 18-25. Makes me wonder if she'd go younger. I look at her in a whole different light now. I also think to myself what the hell was I thinking getting with her.
ReplyDeleteI think that maybe you hear about it more with female teachers because the boys might be more inclined to brag to their friends and word gets out. I also think men are probably much more careful about it because of the stigma. I doubt there are actually more female than male abusers. Just my guesses.
ReplyDeleteWhat B said. I don't think boys could keep quiet.
ReplyDelete@FSP - it probably seemed they were much older. I always thought my HS teachers were way older than me. Then I find out at a HS reunion that my English teacher, who I thought had to be at least 20 years older was barely 10 years older. I don't think teens are a good judge of age in that regards.
And to that teacher, I hope it was worth it chicky-baby. You'll have 5 years to think about that.

You can't make this crap up. http://www.ratemyteachers.com/andrea-conners/1974947-t
Wonder how her sons are handling this.
I have 2 high school age daughters (they're 17 and 15) and, while they may look like adults from the neck down, from the neck up there is NO mistaking they are teenagers. The same goes for their friends.
ReplyDeleteThere is just something seriously wrong with being an adult, in a position of authority, and being attracted to these kids. *smh*
I think a lot of these women so emotionally immature they see themselves as teenagers and live it out sexually through other teenagers. There is a reason they go into high school teaching. They need to be around these people to live out their fantasy as being a teenager forever.
ReplyDeleteSeriously where were these teachers when I was in school.
ReplyDeletetimebob - you said exactly what I was thinking. I was a high school teacher for a while, and had to get out of it. I was never one that -loved- high school and never wanted to be a teenager again, I just liked teaching math. Well, most of the rest of the staff was in this vicarious reliving teens thing. Between that and people mistaking "caring" in a teaching sense and being proud of a student's achievements with an appropriate time for romance, ick. Had to skedaddle.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, just to point out something probably mis-stated in the blurb here... even if the student was 18, it would probably have been grounds for firing and loss of teaching license, though not a jailable offense. I've never heard of a state that doesn't have rules about teacher/student relationships, but hey - it's Kentucky. I've never been there.
When I was in junior high, there were occasional rumors about the science teacher (who was the wife of my elementary school principal) and one of my classmates; I have no idea if there was anything to it or not, but I almost wouldn't be surprised. She was notorious for having long red hair (originally natural, I suspect by then chemically assisted) and wearing mini-skirts, knee-high boots, and overly tight/low-cut blouses and tops, often times w/out bras (and, according to some people, no underwear either)...did I mention she had to be at least in her 40s? I suspect she got away w/dressing like that because of her husband's position in the school district, and she was always very friendly and nice to all the students, but still...can you say "inappropriate dress," kids?
ReplyDeleteThere seems to be a serious breakdown in people's perception of what is acceptable. How do you not know this is wrong, and immoral? I really dont see how any teacher can be looking for date bait at high school.
ReplyDeleteFWIW, this was during the early-to-mid 1970s...
ReplyDeleteWhen I was 17 I had an ongoing thing with a guy who taught summer school. He was 24-25 I think. He tried to get on permanent with the school but the board said he was too close with the students. I wasn't the only student he had a thing going on with. While we kept it FWB the other girl went bunny boiler(love that phrase!) on him.
ReplyDeleteMy aunt married my uncle when she was 17 and he was in his 40's. He was the gym/football coach and they ran away and got married then she quit high school.
Bat sh*t cray cray
ReplyDelete^sums it up !
ReplyDeleteYou know you never hear about teachers having sex with their female students. I wonder how often that happens. All my teachers were older. And 85% were women. I think I only had 4 male teachers ever.
ReplyDeleteI thought the age of consent in KY was 16? Not that it makes this kind of thing acceptable. Teachers are in a position of power and shouldn't be seducing students. There are a lot more female than male teachers, which probably explains why more women teachers are caught.
ReplyDeleteThat photo of the teacher - she looks so . . . wholesome!
ReplyDeleteOff topic - My former boss when I was in my late teens was the most wholesome looking person I had ever met. We worked in a trendy store (Ok, I'll admit it. It was Wet Seal) but she was from the mid-West and wore long plaid skirts, tights, sweaters with oxfords underneath and had a blunt blonde bob and carried a Dooney purse. Anyway, we were sitting in the back room eating our lunches, and all of a sudden she started talking about how she and her huband go to swinger clubs and use toys at home like nipple clips!!! I was so shocked, because she was so. . . .preppy!! And we were just sitting there eating soup. How did this topic come out over chicken noodle?
@MadLyb
ReplyDeleteKentucky’s age of consent is 16, the felony she was indicted under makes it illegal for a teacher to have sex with a student under age 18.
Enty didn't explain it fully:)
BUNNY BOILER!!!! Awesome. Thanks Bobbi, you have enriched my vocabulary.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was 32 I had a hot hook-up for a few months with this super cute/hot 24-y/o blonde guy (looked a bit like Simon Baker from Mentalist). Compared to my tastes (mature to older) that was super young but fun and made me feel a little wild.
Now at 35 I'd do it again but I don't find TEENAGERS attractive. But maybe... a young strapping high school football player to trade sexual services for fun teachable moments would be fantastic!
Super creepy though, I think I'll stay away from the local high schools.
I'm the total opposite, I've always liked older guys. When I was 17 (yeah I know I was a little hooch lol) I dated a 30 year old bouncer/stripper until he told me I needed to start working out to tighten up my ass. Needless to say I dropped him faster than his speedo could hit the floor. For even more bitchy payback I moved on to his bestfriend/workout partner. Ha!!
Deletebobbi_1025 - Just for my own curiosity, did your aunt and uncle end up staying together?
ReplyDeleteNope. I forgot to mention he left his first wife for my aunt and after 18 yrs together he left my aunt for a younger woman. But when he went to marry #3 he told my aunt he wanted her back and didn't love the new chick. My aunt told him to get bent.
DeleteI have a fb "friend" who's a high school teacher. I have absolutely no evidence of anything, but the many, many pictures she posts of herself and her students would make me very uncomfortable as a parent.
ReplyDeleteShe's the type who LOVES to post a million pics of herself with her (I suspect) store bought boobies front and center - clothed and all, but damn, you can tell she's proud. She also posts a pic of herself in all her "formal wear" before chaperoning all the school dances. I suspect it's hubby (#3) taking all the pics.
Anyway, point is, I think the vast majority of people who teach do it for the right reasons, and certainly not for the glamour and high pay. But I do think that there are HS teachers who are still living in a teenage fantasy world.
Ooh, she also constantly refers to her students as her "butterflies" or "babies", which would also creep me out as a parent. Warning signs all over the place! I'd unfriend her, but I love to stare at the train wreck!
Fun times for hunter
ReplyDeleteI think that statistically there are more female teachers, but also that boys are more likely to brag, while girls keep it to themselves.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, I worked in the public school system for a few years and got invited out with my fellow elementary school teachers who met up with the high school teachers for drinks Friday nights. I only went a couple of times. These people were messed up. Seriously trying to relive their teens, not to mention some of them partied with some of the high school kids, drinking and smoking pot.
Between that and having gone through a few unwanted advances from male teachers in jr high and high school I am so over public schools and their teachers. I am so homeschooling my daughter.
As an educator (from elementary school to graduate school), I have no idea how a teacher can have these relationships with students. Sure, I have had students flirt with me - but you nip that shit in the bud with professionalism and not getting yourself in inappropriate situations.
ReplyDeleteAnd sure, I saw that crap going on while I was in school and was even subjected to some inappropriate groping (which I thought was normal at the time!!!!!) How schools (including my own middle school) can turn a blind eye to it is beyond me.
As an educator, I cannot wrap my head around it!!!! It is truly disgusting to abuse that power.
I think timebob hit the nail on the head--a couple of people I went to high school with are now teachers, one an athletic coach, and I think it just allows them to continue their lives in the reflective haze of their high school glory days. I had a female English teacher in high school would would pick a "besty" in each class and they'd spend their time bullying all the other kids in the class for their merriment--what a jerk. Kinda sad, in retrospect.
ReplyDeleteGuys might like to brag, but women often get betrayed by not controlling emotions.
ReplyDeleteI was seeing a married girl (2 years younger than I) at work; we would have fun lunches at my place all the time. I didn't want to cause her any trouble nor end the fun, but one day after a minor argument (don't remember what over) we returned at the same time (she was supposed to be a couple minutes later that day) and she steamed inside, obviously mad, and giving me death looks. The girls who saw picked up on it right away.
And yes, we ended because she started seeing someone else.
Anyway, she was the only one who had anything to lose, but she is the one who let the secret out.
This isn't like me violating the law to smoke a J, because that's more about what's right and right's , this is about common sense. She should have waited till he was 18 and after he was even a student at her school. Just as not only a precaution, but it should just be protocol.
ReplyDeleteThat's my take.
These women are disgusting. Why don't they just slice up the kids with knives. The damage they inflict is terrible.
ReplyDeleteI think the whole 70/30 thing has to be because there are so many more women teachers than men.
ReplyDeleteIt makes no sense otherwise. Men are notoriously attracted to teens, women not so much. I am betting the number of hot male teens on straight porn sites number in... well the 0s.
I had probably a dozen male teachers k-12. Two of them hit on me, one of them was an elementary gym teacher who liked to wear shorts and no underwear. I never heard any whispers of women teachers acting inappropriately with my classmates.
ReplyDeleteAren't 95% of teachers female? If 1% of all teachers (for example) were fooling around with their students, most of that 1% would be female because there are just more female teachers.
ReplyDeleteSeems to me the men just get caught out later, and it turns out they were serial molesters in boarding schools or something.
When I was in high school, I had two male friends who were sleeping with their teachers. They were both 16 and going to an all boys school. They thought girls their own age were too much of a problem. No one seemed to care. This was 1986.
ReplyDeleteI teach college and profs dating students is still pretty rampant, especially on the graduate level. Heck I married my ex-prof. It's a different ball of wax when they are teachers with kids.
ReplyDeleteHenriette: While students in college might not be minors, I don't think it is a completely different ball of wax. A professor is in a position of power over impressionable students. Plus, the gossip isn't worth it. Academia is much too small of a world.
ReplyDeletei love my kiddos, but i can't imagine what an adult would talk about with one for a partner. guess they aren't looking for conversation. what an abuse of power.
ReplyDelete@luckylass
ReplyDeleteAs an academic, I can tell you that a majority of profs would never have gotten married if it weren't for marrying their students. They are not noted for being social butterflies.
I agree that there are many students who are impressionable, but there are a lot of older students in colleges too. You can't say a 30 year old colllege student with a prof in his or her age bracket is the same as a teacher sleeping with a 15 year old.
I stand by my statement, college is a different ball of was from high school.
I meant "wax."
ReplyDeleteHenriette: As a married academic, I do not agree at all with your statements about our social proclivities. I only know a few profs that have married, fucked, and/or dated their students - something around 5%. I even admit that one couple are even my good friends, but they are the exception and not the rule. Like any good CDAN reader, I am up on my gossip. Perhaps you and I are just in different fields.
ReplyDeleteI do think that a 19 year old college student, is not far off from a 15 year old high schooler. The educator should not be getting it on with students, as it is an abuse of power.
• 17.7% of males and 82.2% of females reported sexual harassment by faculty or staff during their school careers
ReplyDeleteThe Statistics of Teacher sexual abuse to Students
The best estimate is that 15% of students will be sexually abused by a member of the school staff during their school career.
Though, when the American Association of University Women Foundation surveyed more than 1,600 students in eighth through 11th grade, 25 percent of the girls and 10 percent of the boys who said they had been harassed or abused said the harasser was a school employee.
The number of K-12 public and private school students in 1996 who have been or will be sexually abused by a member of the school staff is nearly 7 million of 51,331,000.
Between 1% and 5% of teachers sexually abuse or harass students.
At least a quarter of all school districts in the United States have dealt with a case of staff sexual abuse in the past ten years.
Most cases of sexual abuse of students by teachers are never reported.
In nearly half of the cases, suspects were accused of abusing more than one student.
Only two cases were cases of false accusations; less than 1 percent of the cases studied.
No type of school was immune to abuse: public or private, religious or secular, rich or poor, urban or rural.
Responses to Allegations of Sexual Abuse of Students by Staff
38.7% of the teachers resigned, left the district, or retired
17.5% were spoken to informally
15% were terminated or not re-hired
11.3% received a formal verbal or written reprimand
8.1% were suspended and then resumed teaching
7.5% were cases where the superintendent determined that the teacher hadn’t meant to sexually abuse
Of the nearly 54% of abusers who resigned, weren’t rehired, retired, or were terminated, superintendents reported that 16% were teaching in other schools and that they didn’t know what had happened to the other 84%.
All but 1% of these teachers retained their teaching license.
Teacher Student Sex Legalities
In 20 states, it is not a crime for school employees—including teachers, administrators, and coaches—to have sex with students aged 16 and over.
In 23 states, it is not a crime for school employees to have sex with students aged 17 and over.
In 45 states, it is not a crime for school employees to have sex with students aged 18 and over.
In 16 states, it is a crime for adults in a position of trust and authority—teachers, administrators, and coaches among them—to have sex with students under the age of 18.
@luckylass
ReplyDeleteI too am a married academic. As I stated in my previous post. I am married to a fellow professor. I teach English lit and writing.
If you read my statements, I stated that you cannot compare a 35 year old college student with a 19 year old one.
Grad students are actually treated as peers with profs. I know I socialized with many of the professors when I was getting my MFA. I am currently getting my PhD and still do. Didn't you socialize with your profs when you were in grad school?
You know one couple that has married well I know about ten. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area. If they were ten who married, I wonder how many dated their profs and didn't.
I don't think you are actually reading my posts accurately. I'm not stating it is good to sleep with students, but when it comes to adult students, each case is different.
@luckylass
ReplyDeleteI forgot to specify that these couples did not date or marry until after the prof/student relationship ended. These were former students.
